Kolyma is a region in Russia! I was born on the Kolyma River in the city of Magadan! This is a wonderful place, where beautiful scenery, lots of animals and fish, as well as a lot of places where no man has gone before, untouched wilderness. Ecologically clean region. There are no factories, so that clean air and water from the river to drink not even boiled! So please come to us to Kolyma!
Your description of the place does make my heart throb.
I feel most human whenever I'm able to leave civilization behind for a while (which is very, very hard in Germany.) I cannot walk more than 500m without "triping" over / walking under some shitty energy company's high-voltage wires.
@TheHeikewi Just for the sake of "political correctess". Kolyma is a region in Russian Far East, where Stalin's regime built labour camps for political prisoners. These camps (known as "gulags") served double purpose, supplying cheap labour for the Kolyma's gold mines, and as extermination camps for regime's opponents. Most of those who served their time there never returned (estimated half a million people). Hence "Land of gold, and land of death, Graveyard for the lost".
@aleksandarrudic haha in case of making a song >like this one< about auschwitz, a label like nuclear blast would have never released it, thematizing this chapter of the past without talking about guiltiness of the own people that exists over all generations, would be a no-go in germany... they would even have risked to be put in the wrong political corner... stupidness of human beings appears to be infinite sometimes.
The lyrics were written by a guy who was actually a member of pre- pre- EverEve in the early 90s, a time when it became commen knowledge that the Soviets had their dirty little secrets as well. (he also designed the first EE logo, the one on the demos).
One shouldn't forget victims of injustice regardless what motives for they were fighting and thusly killed for.

Ah, I would like to visit your homeland, but it's too remote, too far away from the usual tracks...

Great song, but it would be better if they made song about Auschwitz, and some Russian metal band about Kolyma.
