seeing as the vehicle in this clip is powered by what appears to be a jet engine and jets require huge amounts of oxygen to function, i suggest that this contraption could not be used to land on the moon. the only part of this that could be used is the suspension legs. you would also expect nasa to land unmanned versions on the moon as a test before sending manned craft to test the landing in lunar conditions. is it possible that this test is for the sci fi fantasy movie named moon landing?

@iluvmx1977 If You search just a little outside Youtube, You'll find that this was an "Astronaut training vehicle". It's only purpose was to train the astronauts to land a vehicle vertical, using jets (rockets). It had nothing to do with the LEM. Not even built by the same company.
NASA had already landed several smaller Surveyors on the Moon, and had also tested the LEM in Earth orbit (Apollo 9), and in lunar orbit (Apollo 10) before landing (Apollo 11).

I spoke to Buzz Aldrin about 15 years ago at an engineering conference and we got to talking about the LLRV. Buzz, is probably one of the worlds for most pilot/engineers/thinkers one has ever met. He flat out said that this son of a bitch was the most difficult platform to fly in his career as there really was not a good analogue to what it would be like flying in a vacuum at reduced gravity. It got real interesting when you threw the switch on the console which reduced the jet engine thrust
@sakoshooter48 it ried to imitate one sixth of earths gravity as you would experience when landing the LEM. The LLRV used a Lycoming turbofan engine and hydrogen peroxide reaction controls, thats why you see the white puffs from the control system. The LLRV suffered from hot gas ingestion and was prone to compressor stalls. Buzz stated that the LEM was far easier to fly and that the LLRV was responsible for Armstrongs decision to press the landing the first time after the radar failed.

seeing as the vehicle in this clip is powered by what appears to be a jet engine and jets require huge amounts of oxygen to function, i suggest that this contraption could not be used to land on the moon. the only part of this that could be used is the suspension legs. you would also expect nasa to land unmanned versions on the moon as a test before sending manned craft to test the landing in lunar conditions. is it possible that this test is for the sci fi fantasy movie named moon landing?

@iluvmx1977 If You search just a little outside Youtube, You'll find that this was an "Astronaut training vehicle". It's only purpose was to train the astronauts to land a vehicle vertical, using jets (rockets). It had nothing to do with the LEM. Not even built by the same company.
NASA had already landed several smaller Surveyors on the Moon, and had also tested the LEM in Earth orbit (Apollo 9), and in lunar orbit (Apollo 10) before landing (Apollo 11).

I spoke to Buzz Aldrin about 15 years ago at an engineering conference and we got to talking about the LLRV. Buzz, is probably one of the worlds for most pilot/engineers/thinkers one has ever met. He flat out said that this son of a bitch was the most difficult platform to fly in his career as there really was not a good analogue to what it would be like flying in a vacuum at reduced gravity. It got real interesting when you threw the switch on the console which reduced the jet engine thrust

@sakoshooter48 it ried to imitate one sixth of earths gravity as you would experience when landing the LEM. The LLRV used a Lycoming turbofan engine and hydrogen peroxide reaction controls, thats why you see the white puffs from the control system. The LLRV suffered from hot gas ingestion and was prone to compressor stalls. Buzz stated that the LEM was far easier to fly and that the LLRV was responsible for Armstrongs decision to press the landing the first time after the radar failed.
