Why do people have to make negative comments? Obviously things were very different in the 60s and more women were housewives and nurses rather than doctors. People should stop picking on Barbie. Look at all the careers Barbie has had over the years (Barbie did eventually become a doctor). I think you could get a special edition "Draft Dodger Ken" that came with a passport, luggage and a plane ticket to Canada. My little sister had Barbie and all her female friends, but never wanted Ken because he was so fey. She just used my G.I. Joe's (and he was happy to do it too). I'd give him a three day pass so he could visit little sis's "Barbie World". Happy guy.

There is nothing like the old Barbies. I've collected so many of the 60's & 70's Barbie & friends that my sister and I decided to open a vintage toy store in Bethel, CT. We both had so many old toys that our houses were bursting at the seams. Now we get to display the old MARX playsets, play with the wind-ups, and dress up the dolls, etc. etc. And we call it working...who could ask for a better job.

It's so funny how people are quick to criticize today's Barbie in comparison to the Barbies shown here. The only differences are in style and appearance. Underneath the older, more conservative clothing, are the exact same tools and concepts. Just a pretty doll that's fun to play with. Barbie has a big influence on girls. She used to dress more modest and respectable. The clothes they are putting on Barbie now, portrays a "slut" image. It it HOW they are presenting her to young girls that some mothers don't appreciate - Bratz as well.
