Yes...In general they are fighting for our freedom, but I think Afghanistan and Iraq are more for the freedom of the Agfhani and Iraqi people....which is probably why Operation Enduring Freedom is another name for the war in Afghanistan. In ww2, Hitler occupied much of Europe and North Africa, Japan occupied much of the pacific. Had the Axis been victourious, Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan would likely try to spread and capture as much as they could.

Well yes and no about wars for comforts; I served in the Navy for 13 years and got out after Desert Storm and learned that there's more than the public knows. And for good reason's.
