  • amazing harmonies

  • When I was a kid I thought they were a bit of a joke band but 30 years on I think they were great and they really could sing.

  • A talented band with so many lead singers in it!

  • Sounded superb back then and still sounds superb today.

  • Like all Great Bands of this era they went ! . Todays Bands are real Rubbish . Like a past comment made "Talent came first in those days " True Statement !!

  • MY GOD...all those super groups and the DARTS still rock...AWESOMENESS...

  • This is a time when talent mattered not looks.

  • I don't know if it's my speakers, but this really doesn't do them justice. See on album, you can't sit still.

  • Darts were the greatest! Sang Duke of Earl so well! Woops, posted last - no prob! Enjoy folks! Luv BB x

  • Great group, saw them at N.E.L.P., had them at end of term/year party. Love this vid! Luv BB x

  • Just in reply to @djspinko - the late 70s 'Oh Boy!' ran between 1978 and 1979 to my knowledge and was presented each week by G.B.H (Gary Hartman - later Terry in 'Emmerdale'). Les Gray of Mud appeared on the show, alongside people including Lulu, Shakin' Stevens, Alvin Stardust, Freddie Fingers Lee - and many others. Excellent series that was followed up around 1980 by ATV's final rock'n'roll show of this ilk, 'Let's Rock!' I hope a DVD company like Network will eventually release these...

  • the line up changed so much back then

  • great lead vocal from griff

  • Classic group, sadly no number 1 for them. Also worth checking out Rock Sharpe & the Replays, Matchbox and early Shakin Stevens. Also can anyone remember when they brought back Oh Boy in the late 70's or was it just a dream. ALso great times at Yarmouth during the roadshows, didn't they also have an evening do at Tiffany's that day? ALso catch Peter Powell at end of video !! FAB

  • @djspinko yes-remember oh boy in late 70s-when the film grease was around. wasn't it hosted by les gray of mud? and shakin stevens was on it before he made it in the 80s..

  • Absolutely loved Darts as a teenager and still enjoy their music now. So happy that even now, vocal harmony groups are popular ( Lets hear it for The Overtones) This particular track reminds me of going along to the Radio 1 Roadshow in Great Yarmouth seafront (near the Wellington Pier) and just having a great time. 'Bits and Pieces ' anyone? Those of a certain age will know what I mean x

  • i think that bald dude should have sung lead. he has a cool high voice.

  • I wish the lead singer here would do that one part.. if you've heard the gene chandler original or the alley cats cover you know what I mean.

  • I have always loved Darts since the ripe old age of 10 which was in 1977 and I love these postings on youtube as it reminds me of a time which was special to me.

  • I remember this from the time, and always loved it! Memory plays tricks though, as I'd always thought it was Den Hegarty singing the low notes - I gather since, that he'd left by then. Still sounds so cool today - well, except TOTP host Peter Powell at the end, who to be honest, was never cool then, either!

  • the orginal one is better

  • The black dude with the bass baritone voice - man he's got so,e pipes on him.

  • a proper belta from me youth,,,great memories of great times,,,,everyone loves darts!!!

  • According to wikipedia, this was their last UK Top 10 hit, their only other sizeable hit coming in 1980 with a cover of The Four Seasons "Let's Hang On!"

  • Gene Chandler is the Duke of Earl.

    Beware of cheap imitations.

  • I was born in 1990and i will admit that music today is junk i wish i could share this song with all you older people...but its amazing and this is my fav song and a.really good.version..how can i buy this version? All i find is records not in cd

  • come back the 70"s & 80"s we miss you.........top tunes eara dont you agree ?

  • Remember this as a kid. Memories come flooding back. Not sure it's the greatest song but they were such great times. The youth of today really don't know what they have missed and will never have.

  • Love DARTS - they are the best!!!! wicked band live :)xxxxx

  • gene chandler is better but darts are very good love daddy cool

  • ...They always looked like they were having a great time...some of my School mates took the Mickey because i liked this Band instead of the Sex Pistols..I think both Bands were Great...

  • @peter007taylor well, if u see your old mates let them know that John Lydon was a fan and was spotted at darts gigs in London

  • @vunderground1 ..Didn't know that..Thanks!

  • @peter007taylor me to i was and still am the biggest sex pistols fan on the planet but i love darts they are a guilty secret of mine they where ace

  • @uncleslim64,it was feb 1999 from a heart attack I believe. So sad & what a waste of such talent.Keep on rockin on heavens door Hammy.!!

  • the frontman here gets the job done ,but just dosen't rate with me.the group as a whole is to be commended for their effort, however, they miss the mark for this listener.thank you sooooooooo very much for the treat. tom d brick,nj

  • Griff Fender, brilliant.

  • Absolutely fantastic ........ although the Peter Powell bit at the end is horrible.

  • went to see Darts when they came to Guernsey when I was about 14/15 - was jumping and dancing around sooo much I ended up with blue dye all over my legs from my new jeans!!

  • ONE FOR LINDA

  • DARTS YOUR STILL THE BEST I LOVE IT CLASS

  • Gene Chandler is THE DUKE OF EARL !

  • Muito bom !

  • Muito bom !

  • So sad to hear of the passing of Hammy, although we only met briefly a couple of times we had a common denominator in Johnny Marrs.Whenever I complained about the ridiculous keys he played in,Johnny would say "Well Hammy never complained"But that's how good he was.I wish I could have got to know him better,Strange that we were both born the same year & in the same town.Keep on rockin Hammy & regards to one of the finest rock n roll bands of its time.Rusty Lupton ex Matchbox & currently Kingcats.

  • @commanderrusty I didn't know that Hammy Howell had passed away. When was this? I was always a big fan of Darts, and thought his piano playing was top rate. That is truly bad news. :(

  • Great Stuff !!

  • wicked DARTS are brill!!!!x

  • Good stuff

  • see darts juy 2010 at newark and london

  • He looks more like the chookyembra, that's Glasgow parlance for Duke of Edinburgh

  • The 'yeah yeah yeah yeah' bit in this can interestingly be found in Nirvana's 'All Apologies'. Was Curt Cobain a secret Darts fan?!!!

Must of heard the Gene Chandler version at least. Seriously, check it out: 'Married! Buried! yeah yeah yeah yeah'.

    Er, is it just me?

  • You guys are lucky in the South. I live in the North east and no darts (boohoo!). That lead singer is the shizzle....the rest are pretty cool too ofc

  • What a brilliant voice this man has!!!

  • @themec Yes he has a great voice wish he did more lead vocal! BB x

  • sadly den left in 1979...great band though.

  • @suttonguy

Den is back with DARTS. Has been for last few years - they gig together whenever they can. They're at The Americana Festival in Newark in July (Sunday) and the Saturday before that I believe they are at The Event in Southwark. We are all pleading with Darts to give a gig soon... hopefully at The 100 Club. Last Darts gig was posponed as Den damaged his leg...

Duke Of Earl is amazing live - a real crown pleeeezer!!!

All together now.... "We want Darts".

  • forgot that kenny andrews had joined at this stage.when did den leave,i remember him being on tiswas..

  • the b- side to this single "I've got to have my way' is really good and grows on you....

  • nice one triumph9909 just thinking the same thing then i read youre comment. guess youre about my age 47. them school discos were something else werent they

  • shame the official 'carriage video' isn't on anymore. You Tube removed it grrrr. The b side to this was good(I've got to have my way!).

  • It isn´t my favourite song of darts but is a great song. The boy from new york city is really good too.

  • my favourite darts song! horatio hornblower is the best! although i am a little biased!

see you all at the next gig-rock on darts!!

  • Wots a Persons Sexuality got to do with Great Music that has lived forever. This is from a era when Teddy Boys ruled once more. With this you have melody. Its a great tune. So Gay or not Gay whats does it matter although Gay Icons like Elton John have been going for decades, all the recent music lasts 4 what seems like minutes. Sexuality has nothing to do with Music but everyone is entitled to opinions of course. Imagine if you died within the next 24hrs would it really matter who is Gay or Not !!

  • Your opinion sucks.. like you probably do.. hence you think all males are gay..

plus your a MANURE fan that probably lives nowhere near manchester or even don't know where the fuck it is..

    sad cunt

  • It's Duke Of Earls 30th birthday - well done to DARTS. We love you guys so much - when's your next gig - getting withdrawl symptons here! Griff - one of your best live performances - crowd goes bonkers for it!!!

We want DARTS... we want DARTS... we want DARTS...!!!

  • lol pause at 1:44

  • griff at his best, simple as that

  • The harmonies on this song are really something else. Fantastic group they were.

  • I Give up!

  • The lead Singer Aka The ONe And ONly Griff Fender

  • love this band, so reminds me of being a teenager, whats the band doing now there always seemed lots of them, how ignorant am i as i dont know the lead singers name, fab anyway. bex

  • He reminds me of Rik Mayhall.

  • 2:08 - 2:25 I love the dancing going on!

  • really great voice, really frightening face.

  • Great voice!

  • I may be sad but I bought all the singles and LP when I was 20. Something to do with the chick in silver.

  • I'm American, but a big doo-wop/oldies fan, and somewhere along the line back in the day I heard some of Darts and immediately scored the first American LP...sadly had to lose my vinyl a few years ago, but this and other posts bring me back and remind me just how great they were, and apparently still are...thanks for all this great music and memories

  • very talented group

  • Love this song, happy days!!

  • Yeah, I second that. I wish we could go back to those days.

  • Brendonwr, what a nasty pathetic comment to make, you should be ashamed of yourself, get a life.

  • best version of that song easily, greatly underated singer

  • Have to say 2nd best...IMO the original still tops it, but this is a very close second, and no other version I've ever heard comes remotely close to Darts...this might have been the side that sold me on them to begin with, actually

  • I went to see them at Hammersmith 30 odd years ago, terrific entertainment , By the way has the WR on the end of Brenden got 4 letters missing in the middle ? no such thing as ugly unless your soul is dead !!

  • you nasty bastard, bet your an ugly shit yourself!

  • You maybe 15 but you have a mental age of 3! BTW Brenden - in case you couldn't work out the previous message your missing letters are: 'a n k e' from between your WR! How sad life must be - being you!

  • makes me so happy to watch bob fish perform very under rated band

  • omg,what can i say! i love them xx

me and my dad used 2 listen 2 them up the shed! omg i love my dad

  • fab group from the 70s , found a cd on ebay with all there songs , best £5 i ever spent !!!!

  • love it love it..... god i wish i was a kid again life was so stress free then.. anyone agree..

  • Totally agree :)

  • spot on mate

  • Oh god yes, for sure!

  • god i can't agree more life was so stress free and less responsible i wish i was back there, in them long hot summers as for darts (before i depress myself ha ha ) absolutely cracking band, totaly takes me back todays bands couldn't live with them they were raw tallent, could have been one of the all time great's (they are to me)

  • bren4007 - I couldnt agree more! Takes me back to school disco's, bay city rollers, slade, mud etc - if only we could turn the clock back!

  • just discovering the darts now, my first impression / opinion is that they are/were a very underated band?

  • Hell yes

  • Heard a rumour that they are still performing, does anyone know anything.

  • you got good taste gordan fella so y not

  • pissed again loved this since 1979 never tire of this song

  • classic my five year old erin loves this will live for ever

  • Griff sings this with so much energy and fun! A real crowd pleaser - absolute bliss!!!

DARTS live - Only a few tickets left for The 100 Club, London on Sat 12 July.

The place just rocks when Darts sing this... brought the house down last time!!!

I must mention - Daddy Cool, Come Back My Love, Get It, Boy from NY City, It's Raining... and so much more...

Go to 'amazingdarts' site for more info!!!

  • I used to be in the WRNS and Griff is definately the best looking Naval officer I have ever seen! Wish I could be there at the 100 Club but have family commitments - maybe next time I'll see you all there?!

  • Got My tickets too... The 100 Club, Oxford St, London - 12 July. Rita, Griff, Pikey, Nosmo, Horatio, Jimmy, Thump, George and last but NEVER least - Den... Yes that's right, Big Bad Den!!! All shows sold out last time so hurry people!! Otherwise it's the Americana Festival, Nottingham the day after, 13th July!

Go to ... amazingdarts site for more info!

  • A great group & song. One of my all time favourites

  • Got my tickets for 12th July at 100 club. Rita and Bob aren't in the reformed band, although when I saw 'em at the Half Moon a couple of years ago, Bob turned up and sang It's Raining and Rita came and sang Boy form New York City. I was one of several grown men who cried that night. This is one of the truely great live acts to see - it is real old school genius. Roll on the 12th. BTW - the bass singer is Kenny Andrews here who replaced Den after two albums.

  • Rita is, Bob isn't

  • Oh right - thanks - I didn't know that

  • this is fantastic

i love the darts when i was a teenager in the 70's this was so refreshing and fairly unique style of music

  • Wow....i was about six when i heard this song.Genuine 70`s classic

  • Great song. Darts was one of my first bands ever. I used to sing their songs as a kid.

One thing I've just noticed though: is the cellist in the carriage naked?

  • i like the decore ad version lol

  • The 100 club is in oxford street london. dont forget 12th July 2008 see DARTS live

  • Thank you stephrattigan

  • I'll be there! Haven't heard this for 20 years or more! Fantastic!

  • I havent heard this song for must be 20 years! Its great

  • man she looks so good in those hot pants anyone know what she is doin now

  • GRIFF FENDER is the other lead singer - what a voice!!!!!!!!see DARTS live July 12th 100 club london

  • Is that right? Where abouts is the 100 Club and how would I do about getting tickets? Thank you!

  • Great performance great melody top notch

  • i can remember this one well, hairbrush in mirror, classic

  • The orignial bass singer was Den Hegarty who can be seen on many of the videos on this site. The female vocalist is Rita Ray who was with the band from start to finish - 1976 to 1985.

  • so was that other guy who sometimes sings lead unsure of his name but its not bob fish

  • classic................

  • Great vocals and sax, thanks for posting this-do-wap is great! Wish there was more of it about, so evocative of the best decade ever-the 50's.

Wasn't the bas singer on the original a big white guy with a mop of curly hair--looked stupid, greta bass voice? Was the black girl an original Dart, or am

    I getting senile!

  • @Jigaboo123456 Rita, the woman you are asking about, was one of the original 'Darts'. :)

  • @wayneleon1000 So I am getting Alzhiemer's, then....cheers for that!

  • Brilliaht memories of that year

  • Pure class!!!

  • i fancied her when i was at school.....yep and i still do.fantastic.

hope to see them this year
