Nice video. That wind would drive me nuts though. .338 win mag is a great cartridge. In the right hands with the right loads it can do amazing things.
hmm.. i love my 300 wm, mod 77. just an old leupold 3-7 on it but i out shoot my fatherinlaws 338 wm. not saying anything bad about it though. i just like my 300 better.
@cindysuern The 338 lapua is great, but only about ten percent faster. The ammo is much more expensive, but limited to a much smaller number of loadings. Requires a true magnum length action since it has a longer OAL, so there are much fewer guns chambered for it. The Lapua also recoils about twice as much, and has about twice as much muzzle blast. The 338 win chambering is available in the Browning BAR, which has very reasonable recoil due to the gas operation.
@1337fraggzb00N the 338 win mag is at 2800 fps with a 225 grain bullet at $60 a box of 20. the 338 lapua is at 3000 fps with a 225 grain bullet at $110 a box of 20. the 338-378 weatherby mag is at 3100 fps with a 225 grain bullet at $120 a box of 20.
Well you must have some other factors causing that recoil disparity. A typical .300 Winchester Magnum creates around 19.4 ft/lbs of recoil. The .338 Winchester Magnum creates around 31.4 ft/lbs. Where you using handloads or something? Maybe a lighter gun? Nice vid btw. 5 stars!
Good point, the rifles and ammo weren't mine so I am not sure about the rifle weights, bullet weights etc, I just know the 300 HURT, and the others didn't...LOL
@davery25 30.06 is not going to have as bad a recoil as a 300wm. For any given bullet weight the 300wm is going to be pushing it at higher velocity, thus more recoil. Rifle weight is of course a factor in how hard it hits your shoulder....
i had a 338 win mag for three days i shot it four times and busted my nose everytime traded it for a 300 win mag and i love it

The 338 Win Mag looks fucking deadly... wonder how the Lapua must be...
1337fraggzb00N 4 months ago
With heavier bullets the Laupa performs a little better then 338

@1337fraggzb00N A little faster, a little more recoil, a bit flatter trajectory. The elk will never know the difference! :-)

Yeah the 300 kicked way more and both were magnums. The 300 has about 650fps more muzzle velocity than the 338

@wavelength1970 my dad's .300 win mag has a nice muzzle break which makes it kick like a .22. no joke, the thing is a gentle beast of a gun.
JohannWendt 11 months ago
@gandb21 the 300 win mag has 19.4 lbs recoil? or rather, a 30-06 has the same recoil as a 300 WM? perhaps i should rethink the 30-06 then
