  • Part 2 coming, Ms. Hart? Please? :)

  • @oddysseuss Working on it!

  • @cyanara167 indesign cs5

  • hi. what software are you using? can i do this with Adobe Photoshop CS5? :O

  • With a channel name like "designlikeapro" I feel like I have to subscribe. I haten't even watched the video yet. Lol. :]

  • When you say magazines need to have even page numbers, as far as printers are concerned, publications should be divisible by four.

  • :D NICE YOUR TUTORIAL.. YOU BLESS ME...

  • Thanks, good vid to start me off using Indesign. :)

  • thank you you are so saving my fucking life. when i make my magazine im defenatly talking about you and your sweet voice

  • Could you show us how to put some pictures into the magazine, and specially the picture, which is designed on the cover page? Thank a lot for your interesting video!

  • thank's a lot for u video.and what is the name of the program ?!!

  • CHAPTER 2 PLEASE!

  • Hi

    NIcki

I just wonder if we can have the magazine cover in facing page..I mean not in that single page which we have at the beginning and in the end. And what is the real benefit of having a multiple master page, Cant it be done in a single master page?

    Thanks.

  • @johnbuhril I've built publications with the front and back covers facing such as smaller publications like performance playbills. Most magazine printers I have worked with require me to send pages saved as individual PDFs so my workflow is easier to start at the cover and end at the back page. What if you wanted different mastheads, or other elements on some of your pages but not all? That is where multiple master pages come in handy. Thanks for watching and your comment!

  • I'm starting a magazine and this was the best tutorial I've seen on YouTube! I've subscribed because I need to learn as much as I can. I have a MacBook Pro loaded with all the Adobe CS5 which I got from college but was never taught how to use it. I will probably hit you up to help me learn more CS5. Thanks Nicki

  • I love your videos!!! Very professional and well organized!!! Thanks and God bless!!!

  • @waverlydesignz Thank you! I'm glad you like them and thanks for watching!

  • how do u view the page without the columns like how u do on the 1st page after entering sm text?

  • @samthoratjic If you type "w" without the quotes you will get a quick print preview of your document without any guides and bleeds.

  • OKE. So.. when i print a magazine... if pages is 2-3... 4-5.. how them print? u dont need to put tha pages... fo example 12 pages... covers uncounted, pagi 2 with 11 ... page 3 with 10.. for print and stapling

  • How many mm? I don't have inches?

  • Mean people are only mean because they don't feel good about themselves and your success scars them thanks for your help nice job!

  • TANKYOU so much!! i just finished my assignment and you have helped me a LOT. Ive made an awsome magazine i thought i could never make! :)

  • Hello.. Is InDesign can able to create an iPhone/iPad App? How about Android? Please reply..

  • You can definitely copy and paste text from various sources such as Word docs. However, the formatting usually never translates over. In InDesign set your desired font, weight and size before you paste your text into the text box with nothing selected. Then can save this as a paragraph style so you can easily and quickly apply the same settings over and over again.

  • I really enjoy your advice. I do have one question. When I tried to "place" my text into the text box, the font was extremely large (24 pt) when it was actually saved as 12pt. Can you share the best way to place content into the text box without having to type it directly into the text box?

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You have a lovely voice!

  • thanks for the video! question..how did you get that text on the bottom to go on all of the pages?

  • Fabulous video, very informative, very consise, moved at just the right speed and great voice!

  • Very good vid, helpful and informative! Thanks :) and by the way her voice is fine.....

  • @bobogol10 Perhaps the content of the video far outweighs the sound of my voice—something of which I can't control by the way. Let's hope you have support instead of hateful judgement for the projects in your life.

  • @designlikeapro yeah it was a pretty helpful tutorial actually. when i said voice i meant accent.

  • @designlikeapro - shows you how silly that post was. I stayed on this video because I finally found a tutorial that had a nice voice to listen to. Before this one, I actually kept jumping video after video because it was hard to focus on the tutorial due to the voice distracting me. I am now subbed to your channel as these are just the kind of tutorials (and pleasant voice-over) I need to get me up and running to do a project magazine I want to do etc. Keep posting Nicki! :-))

  • @bovideos?--personally, I find "ordinary" people helping other "ordinary" people refreshing and would rather listen to straightforward content from someone like this with a less than a perfect accent than be subjected to a video with a trained voice that's trying to charge me a cost or, if it's free, sell me more product.

  • @bkhanger Thank you! That is very appreciated. I am just an "ordinary" person who happens to love design and sharing the process with others. :).

  • @bobogol10 You're an ungrateful idiot, why don't you be brave and post your own videos.

To the OP, please don't let anyone discourage you, keep posting, love your videos.

  • @Sphlynx Thank you! ;)

  • can i use this tut if my inDesign is version 2.0? or does it have different options that cant be compared with a CS type inDesign?

  • @xachekoi Yes, the steps should be very similar, the screen just might look slightly different in version 2.0.

  • I have a question, how can I write at the bottom of ALL my pages? Is it only copy and paste? isn't there any other easier way to apply something to the other pages?

    Hope you answer asap :)

  • Hi, great tutorial!

Could you please tell me what software did you use to make the opening soundtrack for your shows?

Or please indicate if you bought it from a digital library or so...

    Many thanks!

  • Your voice sounds sexy

  • I already started working my layout but how can I go back and adjust the bleed and page size?

  • @DearNadia Go to File>Document Setup and you can readjust the size and bleeds there.

  • @designlikeapro Thank you!

  • very helpfull, i keep watching

  • Dear designlikeapro i recently been thinking of starting a magazine business however i dont know much about the design softwares and the actual printing like were to go for printing amliving inthe uk also how does ads work on the mag? Sorry i know is a lot of question but plz answer thanks

  • Are you gonna make the other steps of this tutorial? I would really like to know how to make a decent full template to use for regular magazine releases. Thanks!

  • @doisneau Yes, I'm planning out those episodes now. There is much to discuss, so I'm afraid it will take a bit to get tutorials from step 1 to finished magazine. Stay tuned.

  • @designlikeapro I understand. Nice that you're continuing making these series!

  • Is it possible to number both pages on one page? For example for page 1 and 2, having something like so 1|2 on page 2? I tried doing it by inserting "current page number" and "previous page number" but It doesn't work, it just gives me a repeated page number...

    Thank you for your help!!

    :)

  • @NATHALIANV This is something you might have to do by manually because InDesign won't put two pages on one. Once you have all your pages laid out you can copy and paste your formatted text at the bottom from page to page and then change the page numbers accordingly. It's not quick if you have lots of pages, but effective to have what you want. Don't use the method I describe where Indesign fills it in for you. This may be something I'm not aware of, so anyone who knows more can chime in here.

  • so what does "bleed" mean? Newbies don't understand the terminologies!

Perhaps a glossary of terms is in order

Good vid though and thanks for it

  • @alanbstard4 Thanks for the suggestion on glossary of terms. Since bleeds are common in all print projects, I have a tutorial covering them and therefore don't explain them in every tutorial. A short definition: Bleed refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet after trimming; typically 1/8" on each side. This makes sure your background graphics extend all the way to the edge without a white border during trimming.

  • @designlikeapro Ah right. Thankyou .(grin )

  • "Bleed" is where prinitng (photos, color, text) runs off the page. You must allow the bleeding element to run oof the page and not to butt up to the trim of the page.

  • nice to c.. i work totally in corel draw. and wana learn indesign. so if we are writing arabic instead of english the how we can make the setting reverse mean from right side the book and page nu to start..

    many thankx

    Siddique

  • @CheddarPad Thank you!

  • @7Nubi As always, thanks! Glad each tutorial is helping you :)
