Winner is The Prodigy, Daft Punk is runner-up, The Chemical Brothers taking bronze and Faithless in fourth place. Plus Kraftwerk making it in the top 15.
Daft Punk eclipses The Prodigy in every way possible. No contest in terms of quality of music and live shows as well as what they did for the future of dance music.
@XxSpodexX Daft Punk probably deserve to win "Greatest French Act", but they are quite lame compared to The Prodigy. I was very surprised to see Daft Punk placed higher than The Chemical Brothers.
@XxSpodexX To be honest, I think that Daft Punk are overrated. The only tune of theirs that I really like is Robot Rock. They simply cannot match the energy and power of Prodigy's music.
you dont know your history then. do you have any idea what daft punk has done in terms of house music? i mean you gotta go back to around 84' when house was being born in chicago.diffenetly not over rated. when you understand the history of house youll understand how not over rated they are. geniuses really
@GeoAl09 Well, excuse my french, but house music kinda sucks, so I don't really care about its history. Daft Punk, like many other electronic acts, are a bit limited in their style, whereas The Prodigy are far more diverse, mixing a number of genres throughout their discography. I'm not saying that Daft Punk are bad, I just don't get the hype, and I'm honestly surprised that they are ranked above The Chemical Brothers in this poll.
@XxSpodexX No, because they replay about 4 to 8 notes for 3 or 4 minutes and that's their songs I can put up with a daft punk song for about a minute and then I have to stop before I get annoyed, take a listen to robot rock. Prodigy on the other hand were way ahead of their time in terms of music and and each of their song are completely different from the last for example Poison, Firestarter and No Good are massively diverse in terms of music. I can make a Daft Punk song in my sleep.
Woooo The Prodigy are my fav!!! I found out about Mixmag cause of Showtek but I voted for The Prodigy. To be honest I was surprised Showtek wasn't in the top 20, but I've never seen them play so yeah haha.
@proximityeffect1 i know its not the best live act. i can read! i was replying to someone else. anyway, i suggest you listen to their first 2 albums and then come back to me and tell me fat of the land is better?!?!?!?!?
@davidsan01 No. I'm 21 and a big fan of Prodigy too, and have been for 10 years. But Pendulum are pioneers in their field - only they(out of big electronic names, anyway) can play electronic music 100% live, with sound quality matching or exceeding that of a studio recording. Not to mention their amazing work with concert video and lights. Prodigy's live shows are awesome, but they are not near as 'live' as Pendulum's. Liam is playing on top of a background track, as well as the drummer.
@ZVERMIX There are so much more better dance/electronic acts out there live than Pendulum, believe me. Quite a lot of acts do change their sound slightly when live and as ive not seen Pendulum live i can't comment on them specificly. But a lot of electronic acts do have to change their sound slightly due to limitations of not being in the studio. But that shouldn't count against them. It means they are good at adapting to their environment.
Although i think to be brutally honest, The Prodigy have gone downhill since Jilted generation. Had it just been after their first 2 albums then i would have possibly agreed. 'Experience' is still one of the best Old Skool albums out there today.
Underworld should have been number 1 for me. Disappointed that The Orb and System 7 didn't make it in to the Top 20, although pleasantly surprised to see Depeche Mode at No. 14!
@davidsan01 Oh cmon, Fat of the land was mind blowing. I haven't liked their musical style since Outnumbered, but I still love them purely because they put on such a devastatingly good show every time. Chems, Underworld, Leftfield and DP are all contenders for this too.
@DeathCobra06 Fat Of the Land, apart from a few tunes, to me was a total sell out to where they originally started from. I didn't like the Punk-Dance crossover. Prodigy will always to me, be at their best back in the early 90's. I guess it's all about personal opinions.
It had to be the prodigy...They have rocked dance music for the last 20 years and show no signs of stopping...They have inevitably contributed so much to the music scene over the years and are undoubtedly NUMBER 1..

@prodigy84bg omg, how can you say that. The only reason why Daft Punk is not 1rst is because they haven't released anything since 4 years.

@ZVERMIX Pendulum wouldn't even be in my Top 30. They are a poor mans latter Prodigy. I'm guessing you are under the age of 20 possibly?
