I think, marathis in Bagnlore do not speak marathi if soemeone is talkin to them in their regional languges. Marathi ppl in Banglore does not say that they will force banglore local ppl to follow marathi language or custom. There is a huge difference in Marathi ppl in Maharashtra and marathi ppl in Banglore.

Here's a solution. Set Goals for UP and Bihar in terms of (education, reduction of crime, transparency of govt, investment, job creation.). set a time frame of 10 years. If not met, let them know we will give them away to China.

Make no mistake ths is not just abt Maharashtra. Migrant movement is choking the already over-strained resources of the state particularly Mumbai. UP-Bihar ppl don't dare move southwards of Maharashtra as they know they face a major handicap with not knowing the local language. Crowding of migrant workers itself is the proof of excessive capital investment in Maharashtra, while, at the same time LACK of investment in UP and Bihar. Indirectly Maharashtrians want to reverse this trend, perhaps a fair balancing act of nature.

India's economy is growing rapidly. Don't worry, migrant workers will leave Mumbai as opportunities open up in other areas. I foresee record capital investment from overseas in near future. BTW when I analyze entire India, closest to Hindi culture are Maharashtrians and Gujarathis. There is a thin line dividing these people. I believe there is (insignificant) small number of Maharashtrians who feel uncomfortable with people from UP or Bihar.

It appears that people are hating the messenger and overlooking the message. The overly congested Indian cities cannot bear the burden of hoards of new migrants from UP/Bihar who cannot be gainfully employed or who live illegally in ghettos. There is a need to revisit the Indian constitution and put some conditions on the free movement of labor in the country. The conditions should be debated nationally.

In the age of mass migration this is a touchy topic. Raj may be an opportunistic politician however, the friction between locals & migrants is a global phenomena - be it UP/Biharis in Mumbai/Delhi or the east europeans in western europe. Any migrant who can be gainfully employed & respects local laws, culture or standards of living is always welcome. However, if poor UP/Biharis migrate in hoardes, live illegally in ghettos & indulge in crime then the resistance from locals is natural.
