It was created in USA in 19 century, when capitalism and industrialization allowed people to stop being farmers/hunters and 5% of farmers now feed 100% of population. It was then, that the freed labor was restructured and middle class emerged - these are small businesses, professionals.
The post-WWII was working class getting monopoly type salaries since USA was the only country with infrastructure left and no other country competed

@darealdjnutz In those times the taxes were over 9/10 of the income on top brackets, but obviously nobody paid those taxes, as people didn't pay themselves salaries to get into those brackets, instead they got dividends, they recycled the income in business, got various deductions, etc., as the tax never exceeded 18% of the GDP in history of USA.
Today it's even less practical to try and tax income, as capital investment is no longer in USA, but is in other countries, it can be moved easy.

What is happening is that US dollar has lost 78% of value since the year 2000, as the gold went up from under 300/ounce to over 1400. Those are facts. This will continue and it's gaining momentum, as the printing continues.
The real losers are those, who hold mostly dollar denominated assets (the poorer of the Americans, and many foreign nationals and banks). Those who understand the economics will be affected less.
