  • Hey, have you notices on some channels such as PhilipDeFranco, and WhatTheBuckSHow etc. They have a question on their channel. How do you add a question on your channel? Do you have to be extremely popular to do so or can anyone do it? I haven't seen any module for it.

  • @inoraa It's under channel modules, moderator.

  • @RandomCastaa thank you

  • i watch every video until it's over unless someone is looking at themselve in the video preview :)

  • i have a question so i do rap music and i use instrumentals from songs but i write my own lyrics too it, how does that work with copyright law, rap seems different when it comes to using beats and such

  • @AZtrueflow18 You'd have to look up the current copyright law on using sample based recording. I would assume the same rules apply to youtube.

  • your videos are awesome dude i just started out on youtube trying to get my channel off the ground just uploaded a small pointless video while im working on a good one onli got 6 subs and this helps

    im subscribing and rating 5

  • looks like it didnt work for you

  • Thank you, very much for putting the work into making a series to help new channels like me. I like your step by step processes, and the way your videos are broken up, and they are really easy to follow, but informative at the same time. I'm not sure how, but when I upload my videos, standard quality is pretty good and HD isn't needed. But HD is like looking over my shoulder, so that's an added bonus.

  • For my latest video (Part 9), I up-convert my SD video to an HD resolution (720p) because it makes the SD (480p) option look even better. YouTube is weird but I can confirm this to be true. So if you have video 640x480, render out and upload it at 960x720.

  • I don't recommend using a webcam as the quality is normally bad and camcorders usually work better with lighting.

  • GREAT advice!

  • hey i have no problem with the first part All my videos are about 1:00

  • I want to thank you so much for these outstanding videos. I Have been looking on the internet for help, and your the only person that really helped me out. This is why i Subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the help.

  • Thanks for the great tips!!

I gave you a five star rating!

Please watch some of my videos and comment about how good you think they are. Please subscribe to my channel.

  • great vids

  • cood luck!

  • DAILYBOOTH!

    I'm following you

    I'm @DeMach

  • The whole series was good. Thanks for putting the time in.

  • Great practical information. I'd like to mention that BackgroundTube also offers high quality youtube background designs along with the color schemes to match.

  • lol i stopped watching at 2:33

  • and another tip:

if you have uploaded a video in the past and it is still 4:3 you can change it to 16:9 very easy:

add yt:crop=16:9 to zoom in till it fits in the 16:9 aspect ratio

or do yt:scale=16:9 this will scale the video on the x-axes i wouldnt recommand this...

maybe you should check out if there is any kind off color correction plug-in for windows movie maker

    greetz,

    R4p1dmage

  • i have a tip about HD vids

add a annotation thats says like click here for hq and add a link to your video-url+'&fmt=18'...

this code changes your video from HD to HQ :O

any ways great tuts on gaining subscribers! ive watched all of em :P

im now gonna check out your channel

maybe you should add (or you have allready done lol) something about the new youtube channel 2.0. it gives you channel something extra

ive done a tut on that, just check my channel and it will pop up :p

  • i skipped nearly all your videos because i got bored

  • Very nice video presentation and information.......Thanks for taking the time to share this with youtube People.

    All the Best !

  • I rarely watch a video longer than 30seconds or a minute. Thats why I try to make my videos as short as possible. I prefer them to be around a minute.

I have a fast computer and fast connection an HD can be a bitch even with my stuff.

I have one HD video on my page.

    Keep doing this series.

Also, please let me know what you think of my channel page design. Please send me an email or leave me a channel comment regarding it.

  • i never watch videos in HD. they take too long to load... i only watch in HQ, sometimes. &fmt=18 at the end of the URL if the vid is really bad qualtiy

  • if u could get better PC HD would load in no time ;)

  • yeah, i wish i could. except that my computer is old as hell, so i never use it.

i use my laptop for everything, but unfortunatly it has an irriplacable grafics card that sux.

  • unlucky m8, new laptop soon maybe ;) its worth spent some money and use really good PC/laptop, I would prefer PC tho.

  • Thanks for the tips!

  • hey man, your series is by far the best. you actually take time and really wanna help people out. thats kool man. keep it up. I subscribed, and 5 stars. good work.

  • Hey John! Thanks for all the useful info. Your series is by far the best information on reaching out to YouTube and making people interested in your videos.

I actually made my own YT-background based on the tutorial by the makers of YTlayouts :-).

    Take care,

    NW'82

  • I've found this series informative and helpful. Let's see if I follow through with your advice.

By the way: I really like the lighting you use, very warm tungsten colouring.

  • Thanks. The coloring is mostly done through a white balance adjustment. Otherwise I look very pale (which I am).

  • Video responses are important when first starting out if possible.

  • You tube has an option now that will automatically allow a viewer to watch a video in high def. if that option is available for the video. It happened when I watched this video.

  • This video isn't in HD, it's HQ.

  • i watched your entire series. very insightful and informative. thanks for the tips.

  • nice video, my bg idea is from Ytlayouts...i made it myself, but its not the best quality because i used windows paint, but anyways i rated 5 stars***** ! :D

  • Great video tutorial. 5 stars from me.

    Advocate 20

  • Thanks!

  • Psst... in light of your own comments, you'd think you wouldn't make eleven minute videos. I would think maybe 3-5 minutes is the optimal range for most things?

  • I don't let length stand in the way of articulation of ideas and information. I think you missed the point though. One needs to be aware that viewer decide whether to watch more than 5 minutes early on. People still watch more than 5 minutes for videos that compel them to do so. Generally it's good to be cognizant of being efficient with one's videos. It's an interesting challenge and balance to strike.

  • I was actually wondering: Why not simply upload your 856x480 original? I can't see the benefit of transcoding to lower resolution (as it requires additional effort and reduces video quality). Maybe I'm missing something...

  • Because the original 856x480 video is only 1900Kbps coming out of WMM. That's not high enough for YouTube to offer it at HQ 640x360. YouTube will only give me NQ 480x270, IIRC. Which is an awful bit rate compared to HQ 640x360.

  • Ah, now I understand: the key point is to increase the bitrate in order to prompt YouTube into providing an HQ version. Thanks.

  • Thinking about it, it would be a better solution to create a Window Movie Maker HD project in Vista and output a HD 720p 6.9Mbps video then transcode it down to 640x360. That would probably preserve more of the original video quality but would take longer.

  • Or get Adobe Premiere Elements ($70 from Amazon) and set the resolution, bitrate, etc when exporting the video :-)

  • You mentioned elsewhere that you transcode from 856x480 to 640x360 before uploading. Why do you do that? It seems counterintuitive that a lower resolution produces a higher quality result on YouTube... Thanks.

  • I do this because Windows Movie Maker in Windows XP won't create videos at 640x360 in resolution, only 856x480 in a 16:9 aspect ratio. So as a final step, I transcode to 640x360 using a CBR of 4000 kbps using Windows Media Encoder. I certainly lose a bit of video quality but it's only solution I know using WMM in XP. A better solution would be to use a video editor that can output directly to 640x360.

  • Love this video Castaa, you got me featured a few weeks ago... thanks a lot...

  • That's great. Congrats.

  • Hey thanks for talking about all of this in English. Very informative!

  • Thanks. I pride myself in good English.

  • Informative, Always looking forward to more video tips from you, Castaa. (:

  • Ya, there always new things and ideas to talk about as YouTube evolves. Thanks.

  • Very informative, as always! ;)

  • Thanks. Good luck.

  • This whole series is so beneficial. You put it into terms that anyone can understand, and the websites you link to have been such a big help. I can't wait to start putting this to use in my videos. You've got a new subscriber indeed :) (By the way the other videos on your channel are just as engaging)

    Five stars!

    -Katy

  • Much appreciated

  • My standard version with HD option is still very high quality! I'll be doing a tutorial on it in the future but just so you know it is possible to have fairly good quality in standard quality while still having the HD link. I screen record and managed to get it still readable for screen recordings and I am useing a fairly big resolution 854 by 480.

  • Pass it along when you are done. I'd like to see it. My problem with HD is that there should be a HQ (640x360) version there instead of the default SD (320x180) resolution for those that want it. I'm guessing YouTube would add this middle solution but so far months later it still isn't an option.

  • I will probably make it after march break when I'm back from my cottage...but look at my videos I have now and tell me how they look for you so I can be certain it looks good for everyone on standard definition.

  • Oh interesting. Your non-HD default is indeed 640x360 in resolution. In my HD tests, albeit last month, gave me a default of 320x180 everytime. Maybe I spoke too soon and YouTube has improved this since then.

  • Everyone speaks too soon once in awhile but that's how we learn things have changed sometime ;p

  • Wait, isn't your thumbnail a screenshot from this very video? ;-)

  • Ugh, thanks. There's a bug with YT where it changes the channel icon to the latest video even if you have a picture set already. It should be fixed now.

  • hey thanks that was interesting.

  • Cool and thanks.

  • Great Advice!! :)

    keep it up

  • Thanks Sara.

  • great vid very helpful

  • Thank you

  • Thanks! Love it!

  • Appreciated!
