  • eww hippies

  • How about just saying , -"I hope he delivers on some of the campaign promises, tax cuts, shrinking /restructure govt."

  • Boy are these guys in for some buyers remorse. Or should I say voters remorse. The "hope" will soon give out when the tax rates rise to 50% and the dollar falls to the value of a penny. The "culty" girl and the special interest guy were the only one's who saw it half right. Nice vid though reason. We have to see things from the sheep point of view before we can really "change" things.

  • LOL at the failure sheep here. None of them really list anything substantiative, they just parrot Keith Olbermann. Do they even know what Change means? DO they even know what he stands for?

  • Obama could save tons of money by simply getting rid of the DEA.

  • Does any buddy else think the shoe throwing is in bad taste?

  • No, someone should start taking those shoes...if you find a pair you may actually make a decent profit!

  • sigh* its fun watching sheep

  • The only "change" I can detect so far is that "earmarks" are now called "stimulus."

In any event, I guess you Obama supporting libertarians must feel pretty stupid about now, hunh? not yet? You will.

  • since when has anyone heard of obama supporting libertarians?

  • "It's getting a little culty". Thank you for last year's news.

  • I agree with the woman at the end about it (the Obama movement) becoming "too culty".

  • Die hard statists on the contemporary left. Die hard statists on the right. Changing the president is like changing the hood ornament on a mack truck barrelling towards you at one hundred miles per hour.

  • Yes for legalization of marijuana and hemp at 0:55 into this video.

  • Legalization is huge step that may not be feasible in one term. He could at least push for a drastic lowering of the FDA's priority on policing that particular drug, urging state law enforcement to do the same. It would save money and time spent on the inevitable burecratic nightmare of regulation and licensing that would come with legalization, while making it somewhat easier and safer to obtain or even grow.

  • FDA? I think you mean DEA.

  • ::facesmack:: yes, you're right. Now I look a right fool.

  • How come hardly anyone there even mentioned the hope for an improved economy? Also, we all the best route to achieve unity is chucking shoes at the opposing party. Good move. I hate both parties though.

  • culty indeed.

  • Clueless moronic sheep, I am starting to think this country deserves to tank.

  • drones я lamers!!!

  • Listen kid. I'm not going to debate someone who hasn't done the homework, it's pointless.

And no, I won't reword it and I won't apologize for what I say.

Just because you watched the extended coverage on Fox, doesn't mean you know what's going on.

Hitler wasn't elected. Neither was Castro. Wrong again, and not the point.

Again, do your homework. Your understanding of the issues is very, very shallow.

Start with the Balfour Declaration if you want to truly understand.

  • It is really weird that the right considers Bush conservative. Bush was a big government statist, much more left than right in policy. His Every Child Left Behind Act, increase in income transfers, Clear Skys Act, AIDS relief, corporate welfare, etc. etc are all example of policies you would expect from the left. Historically liberals are the war mongers, not the right. That is no true conservative in my view. Conservatives out there, if you want a leader to defend, it isn't Bush.

  • At some point al of our words got twisted up in an Orwellian sort of double-speak. Iain Banks, one of my favourite authors, referred to Bush as Libertarian of all things. Half the problem I've had in understanding the world was rewriting the definitions for most of the terms in my head. And the biggest obstacle to political discourse is getting past their bad definitions.

  • I know what you mean. Liberal used to mean one who believes in limited government and natural rights of life liberty and property. Now it means entirely the opposite. Dictionary authors must be having their heads spin.

  • "It's getting a little culty."

I think she just created a new word (along with possibly upsetting some Obama supporters).

  • "I'm afraid of the right-wing people who are ultra-conservative, not accepting him or the changes he tries to make." "I might be a little worried about what, like, the conservative right is gonna try to come up with to, you know, inhibit any progress we might be making." Predictions based on their own actions toward the Bush administration. Get in the way at all costs. Sorry, we're better than that.

    PROGRESS!

"That it goes too far." Someone who hasn't gone completely mad.

  • "I want to see more unity," while she is throwing shoes at a man who she doesn't agree with, insulting him and everyone that supported.

"I don't want as many countries resenting us." Probably the kid in high school who wanted so badly to be as cool as the popular kids.

"Peace to the US. Get out of this whole war-mongering mode." Peace at the price of chains and slavery. Great job.

  • I demand economic justice for our own people and that THEY are taken care of before the world! United we stand, divided we fall....how can we stand together when many of us are falling down in hunger, homelessness and general economic despair?

  • I respectfully disagree, our economy and our foreign policy are inextricably linked and both are a disaster.

Hamas' use of human shields is sort of nebulous, but likely sometimes true and overblown in the media. However, did you know that the IDF is documented using Pal. boys/girls and families as human shields? Numerous times?

Ask yourself why. Why was Hamas elected? Why would suicide bombers do what they do? I have tons of articles by policy experts.

And, thanks, that was big of you.

  • So. Did you read the article Paul wrote on Iraq?

Consider, just for a moment, that if you were wrong about that, that you might be wrong about some other things. The situation in the ME is volatile and complex.

I'd also suggest you read up on the Balfour Declaration to see how much of this madness started.

My support of Paul wasn't faddish, nor was it a way to smoke pot, I researched him thoroughly and there are a few things I disagree with him on, but certainly not his foreign policy.

  • What's really frustrating about this video (and by all means, this criticism doesn't just apply to Obama supporters) is that nobody there was able to point out something they didn't like about Obama - their worries were mostly 'assasination,' followed up by 'get's blockaded from doing what he wants to do,' there wasn't even a token 'maybe he lied about everything, and no change is coming.' How can one be so blindly supportive of something - and worse yet, not even realize it as a failing?

  • What is going on with ReasonTV lately?

There is "reason" in throwing a shoe? Really?

  • There sure is.

    Letting off steam is good.

  • Randy, I think you're asking that because you misunderstood the title. Reason sent Nick Gillespie to interview people throwing shoes, so Reason - the magazine - was among the shoe throwers, not the noun which I use in my username.

  • You're right, I may have misunderstood the tittle.

However, the whole shoe throwing incident was disgraceful to our country and the fact that people celebrate it by recreating is, frankly, quite sickening.

I'm unsure as to Nick Gillespie's intentions when interviewing these individuals.

  • They don't understand what throwing a shoe means in the Arab world, and they're upset at Bush, and apparently didn't think of any other anti-Bush activities. I'm not excusing their actions; they just aren't educated.

Well, Nick Gillespie is a journalist. I can understand why he would ask people questions.

  • Its time to end the federal raids on medicine and its time to grow cannibis hemp everywhere #1 medicine #1 food #1 fuel #1 fiber #1 paper ! america4hemp

  • lol, "it would be TERRIBLE if the evil right tries to stop the divine Obama in his path"

  • What children. My niece is more of a grown up then them.

  • You can't even put a cogent sentence together, do you think I'll believe you over the massive number of documents I've researched?

Yes, I was a Ron Paul supporter and a huge reason for that was because of his foreign policy, if you knew what it was, you'd see that I'm fairly well in line with his thinking.

Of course Hamas wants Israel dead, 60 years of occupation, oppression and blockades tends to turn people into your mortal enemies.

  • "It's getting a little too culty!"

    Gee, ya fuckin' think, lady?

  • Cult of the Presidency. Talk about putting all of your eggs in one basket.

  • When I see these people, the fanatics that lined the streets to wave along Hitler come to mind.

So oblivious to the intentions of their leader, and so eager to see "national standing in the world" improve - just like post WWI Germany.

  • with the key difference that our standing in the world was brought down by belligerent nationalism.

  • Sure, but my point was to identify a personality type, not make a historical assessment.

  • Okay, so nationalistic leaders are personally unpleasant. That's hardly the point. You use Hitler as an example because he was a belligerent and evil man. Having fanatical followers does not reflect anything about a person's policies. As bad as Obama is, and as his foreign policy is, you can't shoot off comparisons to Brown Shirts and Hitler Youth unless you are making an important point.

  • There is a spectrum. There are policies so sound that people are fanatic about them (Ron Paul for example), and there are those policies which are so fanatical that only fanatics and the weak minded follow them.

Taxing people 60% for no other reason than to collect revenue for projects unrelated to covering the externalities of being rich, is in effect 60% slavery. They aren't tilling fields, but the product of their labor is stolen all the same.

  • Okay... I will ignore the various small discrepancies, and reiterate my point that you were not really trying to say anything relevant about Obama by comparing him to Hitler. Yeah, they're both 'populists,' although the fact is that you are probably thinking more about the 'Triumph of Will' propaganda movie than actual events. However, Obama is not like Hitler in any important respect. Stick to legitimate criticisms.

  • littlebier8: policing the interwebs one comment at a time.

  • idiot.

  • "Idiot," said the 9/11 conspiracy theorist.

  • Moron. I'm not a conspiracy theorist you idiot. I am an economist with basic reasoning skills, which is a subject I consider much more interesting and important than your fixation with 9/11 and Obama. Dumbass.

  • There's good homeownership and bad homeownership. But of course, the public housing idiots and that Donovan guy don't get it.

  • Liberals are just gonna have to face the fact that some people won't be able to afford things like homes. The solution would to be help them get higher-paying jobs, not give them free housing or bad loans and then bail them out when a bunch of them default.

  • "Restructure mortgages to make them affordable"?? Uh, haven't we been doing that for the last several years with the GSEs and asking other private banks to lend out bad loans??? And how do you propose making them "more affordable"? If you're making 20 grand a year, it's gonna be hard as hell to afford a 200,000 dollar house, unless you live to be 100 or 200 and make payments upwards of 200 or 300 bucks a month (or whatever the figure may be).

You can't squeeze blood out of a stone.

  • And why is home ownership so desirable? There's plenty of lower-cost alternatives to houses, such as apartments, condos and townhouses. Why can't we just tell the people who want houses but have low incomes to take one of those instead? Not hand out free houses that get screwed up in a few years.

  • I mean, does Nancy Pelosi REALLY want to unite and work with guys like John Boehner on major issues? I think not. It's too polarized. They'll never agree unless they compromise their values.

  • And besides, do these left-wingers who support Obama and his "unity" crap REALLY believe that? They sound like holier-than-thou types who just wanna FEEL important and better than conservatives by claiming the other side is dividing America, and the left is doing all it can to unite us. And who says unifying the gov't necessarily unifies us as a nation? Where do they get off making such a weird assumption?

  • Is it just me, or is all this talk about "unity" a little tired? I mean, come on! The president alone can't make us all bipartisan ALL the time! It's just not gonna happen. When in our history have we had extreme bipartisanship with absolutely no gridlock for 6 months or a year? It doesn't happen! There will always be opposing sides. That's politics. There will always be polarization. Just because there are many polarizing forces doesn't mean we can't get anything done, necessarily.

  • A world where all our politicians agree on the same policy - now that's a scary one.

  • HA! I can only assume you are more subtle than you appear. All our politicians already DO agree on the same policy. And it's a hell of a scary world alright.

  • I was really just commenting on how idiotic it is to want your politicians to agree, but you just reminded me of something.

There was a discusion I was reading earlier where you'd take any social issue - sexual mores, economics, education - and project it forward into a possible utopia, distopia, and weirdtopia.

The scary thing was, reading down the list, the distopias described all seemed to be pretty much the same thing that we find today.

  • It's also, of course, illustrative of the Obamamaniac's economic distortion. They think only gov't can save us from recession, and the market forces can't possibly go back to equilibrium, even though that happened in Reagan AND Clinton's administrations without any kind of huge stimulus package. This may be the worst FINANCIAL crisis since the Depression, but it's certainly not the worst economy. Plenty of people still have jobs and money. The Depression peaked at 33% unemployment, right?

  • That one black woman really perplexed me with her answer. Her biggest fear is that Obama won't "bring the economy back to life"?? WTF does that mean!? Since when is our economy dead? It's merely a recession, and it's not even as bad as the Carter one. Unemployment is just 7.2%, a mere 2-3% higher than "full employment." And why would you be afraid the economy's not going to " come back to life"? Where in our history has the economy never sprung back up? It may take a while, but it happens.

  • Bush got us into the war in Iraq based on lies and got over 4,000 soldiers killed. and over 30,000 injured.

That's more than got killed or injured on 9/11, and he fucked up getting bin Laden at Tora Bora, specifically because troops were yanked out to go into Iraq.

He didn't keep us safe, just kept the existing terrorists occupied and enabled them to recruit far more than if we'd just stayed and done the job right in Afghanistan.

You should read the 9/11 commission report, seriously.

  • I'm would think he would be in a personality cult, but unlike socialist dictators, it would be his supporters glorifying him all the time.

  • The real reason for America's decline is the ignorance of it's people, and the politicians who take advantage of their ignorance. Both parties are the problem, the republicans dissapiont us, the democrats are at least honest about their ignorance.

  • Appalling? I hope you're at least equally appalled at what he actually did to our civil liberties, privacy and our economy--at least the shoe throwing is just symbolic.

(For the record, the Obama stuff is a little too culty--props to the chick at the end.

  • I think its admirable to provide constructive criticism. But videos of Americans throwing shoes at an effigy of Bush, the statist, will without a doubt be used by statists in the middle east as propaganda to further their power over their people. So not quite sure what this accomplishes. More political mudslinging.

  • I don't think it accomplishes much, except to say to the world that Americans felt just as powerless during the Bush administration as the Iraqis.

Personally, I don't know how a "statist" will use images of people disapproving of their leader will be used as propaganda. I can't figure out how you conclude that.

Personally, I wouldn't waste a pair of shoes to insult the guy, I'd expend my energy investigating Cheney first and foremost.

  • Thumbs up to the girl at the end though.

  • The lady at the end was the punchline of this video. Reason among the shoe throwers. Catch the wordplay?

  • Little children. Their mentality will be that of a perpetual teenager, no matter how old they grow. They're the coming "consumer generation" -- they'll want to eat their cake and have it too.
