Never be fooled by Angel. He plays this showy pieces...musically nothing too them...and makes them sound wonderful, but he can also play the toughest repertoire with equal ease. His sound, attack, colors are incomparable. I don´t think there´s a more sparkling sound around.

I agree ! Just listen to his recording of Rodrigo's Elogio de la Guitara; Doesn't get much better. But I will admit that I get a little bored with this.

The Elogio is the (or one of the) best thing he´s done...and a landmark that has never been equaled. Love to see it live; Angel live sounds like his best recordings. The letdown is the same repertoire...compared to other players like Russell, Barrueco, Azabic (Dennis), et al., who play constantly refreshing repertoire (up to now, anyway). This is the Romero Syndrome - playing Asturias, Recuerdos, tons of their Father´s pieces which are...zzzzzzzz.
