  • Omfg this looks like an awesome movie

  • Jude Law & Matt Damon wore beautiful clothes in this movie.

  • So after seeing a bunch of Interviews with Gwyneth about Contagion I decided to see what this film was actually about because it just kept popping up. So the trailer starts and I am like: "This is a family film about a man who has to convince someone to come home and he ends up getting the girl" Well I was very wrong and it looks good so I am about to click order on amazon!!!!

  • saw this last night creeped the shite outtaa me but it was unreal :) matt damon is such a ride :P

  • This is nu doubt my favorite movie. I can watch it over and over again, without ever getting bored. I always discover something new in it ;)

  • AMAZING MOVIE ..GREAT STORY LINE AND STUNNING ITALIAN COUNTRY SCENES.....

  • Jude Law's character was such a dick in this movie

  • jude law, that guy could snap his fingers in a room full of women and panties would be soaked!!! that guy is a real modern day ladies' man

  • @MoviesLoveMusic I think it's because he was traveling under his last name "Ripley"; Meredith would have been able to see this in the airport

  • matt damon was so skinny back then

  • They used the same rock as in the Alain Delon film! But now it has buildings on it... That beach looks so familiar. Where is it?

  • The original french one with Alain Delon is much better.

  • The original french one with Alain Delon is much better.

  • Horrible fucking movie

  • Psychos in movies are the best especially when they are sexy, it makes the storyline more complicated and unexpected. In another thriller, Trespass, Cam Gigandet plays the hot psycho character and he plays it oh so well lol

  • 1:21 aaaah ..<3 and 1:48 <3 <3<3 sorry xDDD

  • 1:22 aaaah ..<3 and 1:49 <3 <3<3

  • Why does Meredith Logue (Cate Blanchett) ask Tom(Matt Damon) if he is traveling under R ? What does that mean?

  • @MoviesLoveMusic 'Under radar' I think. But don't quote me on it.

  • @WarpedMindedYaoi thanks :)

  • @WarpedMindedYaoi It only means they travel under a family name, starting with an 'R'. Both pretend to travel incognito, she does not want to be linked with her rich family, and took the name of her mother (Randall) and Ripley is saying he is Dickie - for the first time in the story - pretending to do the same thing as Meredith.

  • @MoviesLoveMusic If I recall correctly, he tells Meredith on the boat that he's Dickie Greenleaf, so she'll think that he's big and rich and important. But when they pick up their luggage, his stuff is listed under R (for Ripley, his real last name). When she asks about it, he lies and says that he travels under a different name. :-)

  • @kendrakeng thanks :)

  • @MoviesLoveMusic Earlier in the film, she bumped into Tom near customs when he was in character as 'Dickie Greenleaf' (she thinks he's DIckie all the way through). All the passengers' tickets have the initial letter of their surname on the ticket as the luggage gets brought out in alphabetical order. She asks him why his luggage is under 'R' rather than 'G'. He tells her he is using a false name so that he can't be followed or tracked by anyone. Of course it's really because his name's 'Ripley'.

  • @oliverbayley1 thank you! :D

  • @MoviesLoveMusic

I've seen this a number of times. Meredith is traveling under her mother's maiden name. Warped Mind was not wrong.

  • @MoviesLoveMusic it means that they traveled under the Alphabetical category of R on the Cruise, not Under Radar. She took the name Randall and his real name is Ripley, so she saw him on the same section of the cruise as she was. I hope this is the correct explanation.

  • @MoviesLoveMusic I think it is reference to him (supposedly) travelling under the false name 'ripley' when they first met. He created this story of using an assumed name to explain why his suitcase was in the 'r' row yet his name was 'Greenleaf'

  • @MoviesLoveMusic Because when they first meet at the train station in italy he pretends he's dickie greenleaf and when she notices his bags were under R he pretends he's travelling under a false nme to avoid attention. She atchully is rich and is travelling under false name and admits it to him, thinking they're both from money, it's they're first link and how they start their relationship.

  • @MoviesLoveMusic The letter R. His last name (he lies about this though) starts with the letter R. So he`s traveling under R. ;)

  • @MoviesLoveMusic Because he said his name was Dickie Greenleaf, but he was collecting his luggage in the R section for Ripley. She was also collected hers in the R section and she was actually traveling under an assumed name.

  • @jjmaze That was 4 months ago, I realized I was wrong.

  • @MoviesLoveMusic

If you remember when Tom and Meredith first met in the movie Tom told her he was travelling under his mother's name "Ripley". That's why he picked up his luggage from the R section. So she was asking him if he was travelling under his mother's name still.

  • the talented mr damon.

  • This should have gotten a Best Picture nomination.

  • 0:52 I dont remenber that scene in the movie. Is it from some extra?

  • such an incredible book

  • wow, i thought it was going to be a happy movie...until he started going psycho mode on everyone.

  • Dickie wasn't the best of people either and he really did a lot of damage, especially to the woman he impregnated and was cheating on Marge. He had his own lies too.

  • ROBBIE BUSH WANTS MATT DAMONS COCK

  • Not a good movie. Good Will Hunting was 10X better.

  • I love the book and the movie!

  • I saw this in the cinema when it came out and I've never walked out of a film before but I came closest to doing that during this one. I'm not saying it's a terrible film before anyone launches an interweb tirade at me (that I'll never read) but I really did not like it. Just felt like it had no pace to it at all. Very disappointing.

  • i stopped watching the movie when the psycho bisexual guy killed jude!!!

  • @redmonkeysaremylife thank you for spoiling...

  • @redmonkeysaremylife

Then you're missing out on a lot.

  • saw this movie yesterday and i loved great movie!!!and good actors

  • Tom was stupid, made HORRIBLE mistakes, in the begin of the movie, I REALLY wanted him to win, or outsmart everyone.

But at the end of the movie I wanted him to be caught, cuz I really lost respect for the character...He was more of a sick psychopath than a mastermind.

  • It's crazy how young these actors look.

  • One of the best movies.. the original was called Purple Noon with Alain Delon as Tom Ripley it follows this plot accept for the ending. The sequel to this character is called Ripley's Game with John Malkovich as an older Ripley. That movie was remake of another movie called My American Friend with DEnnis Hopper as Thomas Ripley,, anways just thought I would pass some trvial info along

  • Clássico

  • OMG Jude Law is hot in this movie. Question. Is this the movie where Jude won a Golden Globe or something?

  • @Adlea13

    he nominated for an oscar...

he won BAFTA award for best supporting actor... and nominated for golden globe and other awards of course

  • @nurseohood Oh Thanks for the info

  • check imdb

  • ONE OF THE BEST FILMS EVER!! Great acting and directing, god bless Anthony.. Gets better with repeated viewing, lovely locations.. is Ripley gay or Bi? who knows? / cares, sexuality is just a choice, like many things, i feel. either way Mat was best for this role, convincing

  • "Sexuality is just a choice"? You are wrong.

This is a great film though.

  • @Rourkeangel

Dude, sexuality is not a choice. In the book it was implied that Ripley was gay, not bi. I think the movie did the same. But of course, it's all up to your own interpretation, but I think that he only had true feelings for men in the film.

  • @UncleFizzmo Yes it is a fuckin' choice. How come then completley heterosexual parents can have a homo child? All homosexuals are born from hetero parents, you moron.

  • @Quex01

You're a fucking idiot. I'm assuming you're straight. Was there a day where you were in puberty and suddenly decided "I'm going to be heterosexual"??

I don't think so. By that same token, no one suddenly "decides" or "makes a choice" to be homosexual, asexual, or any other sexuality you can think of. The closest thing to choice is that some specific attractions can be learned, but even those are not chosen.

  • @xXNickPXx you can't chose to be asexual, asexual means you reproduce by yourself

  • @dildodave5000

In my comment I already said you don't choose to be asexual.

Asexual in this context for a human being means someone who has no sexual attraction to any gender.

  • superb.

  • this looks so good.

  • was Mr. Ripley gay ?

  • I honestly don't know. I haven't even seen the movie, LOL! I know, that is horrible, right? But I think he might have been straight.

  • he is, it a REALLY good movie, you should watch it! he is adorably gay (;

  • @WarpedMindedYaoi

No, he was a homosexual.. well he couldnt decide if he liked males or females, but that being said, he was def more interested in men. That being said, i think he was kind of a sexual void... he didnt seem to have any interest in it in this novel

  • @WarpedMindedYaoi

been thinking about it. he was gay, look at the scene when he 1st sees Peter in the opera!

  • @33bigmoney I saw the movie half a year ago, and he seemed more bisexual, than just gay or straight. I think he lusted for Jude Law's character, and the life he had. But I believe he fell in love with Peter. Which is why this movie was so sad and upsetting for me.

  • @WarpedMindedYaoi WTF moron? one of the best films ever.

  • @MrRpgmakerkid Dude, I never said I didn't like the movie. I do like it, it is just sad and upsetting for me. Geez

  • He never could decide so he gave up both genders. Or that is what he said as a joke to gain popularity on parties. He was in fact bisexual one could say. He does marry a woman in the second book.

  • i kind of love your point. His love was always related to his dreams. He wanted to be rich so he loved a rich guy. He, at last, wanted to flee, so he loved, or acted as someone fall in love with, another guy. He can't decide because he wants everything.

But it's my first time to know about "second book" lol ???

  • You have never heard of the "Ripliad"?? the second book is called "Ripley Under ground" the third :Ripleys game. 4th The boy who followed Ripley. and 5th Ripley under water ;) enjoy!

  • @zlass55 I think he really loved Dickie and was in love with him. With the Peter Smith Kingsly character he sort of became what he was to Dickie!! I don't know why I didn't see this when it was in theaters. I can't decide if Cate Blanchette is doing a wonderful job or a horrible job acting?!! I first saw her in Elizabeth and really liked her. I haven' decided. I'm not a Qyneth Paltrow fan at ALL..what's with her speech impediment.

  • yessh

  • Yes He was

  • First of all he was a wacko.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked From what I heard in the original novel Ripley was a homosexual.

  • @Clonetrooper1139

I read the original novel- it was implied that Ripley was gay, but not stated. The movie makes is more obvious, which I think gives it just the edge it needs to stand out.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked He was.... sort of gayish... lol yeah he was pretty much gay.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked *spoiler alert*

I don't think he was gay because he admitted to liking Marge. He was so close to Dickie because he wanted to be him which is why he started pretending to be him.

  • @donutdude7777 kind of agree with you. this is the closest thing i thought about after the movie was end.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked His sexuality is left ambiguous in the book, but in the movie he is in fact gay. Admittedly he does talk about feelings for women, but I don't think that means much, he is capable of lying. He asks Dickie if he can get in the bath with him, then stares at Dickie when he gets out. Plus later he dates Peter...

  • @soldyoursoul my viewpoint is that he wanted to be him so much till he fall in love with him. he lost his way through that. so at the very end the mirror is closed on him. he doesn't know himself at all then. so is he gay? originally i think not, but most importantly he himself dosn't know anymore.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked I honestly think he just fell in love with whoever. It just happened to be men who drew him in. He just...never understood how to stay in love, and be happy with it. He always found a way to ruin things. He might have been a sociopath, not sure.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked Yes,he is.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked

He was in love with Dickie Greenleaf, so yeah, Ripley was gay.

  • @leoray1234

No he wasent in love with Dickie, he was in love with his life, his personality, his style, and being with him, just made Tom truely happy. When Dickie wants to take that away from him, he cant accept it and reacts by killing him. He cant handle his rejection.

  • @zmforged I think you have a good point, and I agree he loved his life more than anything. But he was also gay, as evidenced by his attracted not just to Dickie, but Peter Smith Kingsley.

  • @leoray1234

I think its more like this. Dickie was gone, and suddently a new friend seems to interest Tom. The fact that Peter Smith-Kingsley WAS clearly gay, just made Tom play along to catch his interest. Im not sure that Peter would have been interested in Tom if Tom had told him, he only wanted to be his friend. I still dont think Tom was gay at all, but again, just did what he had to do to get what he wanted to get.

  • @leoray1234

I agree that PSK was a very important person in Ripleys life at the time being. But again, I just think he is ready to do whatever it takes, to move on and on and on... Ripley was in some ways just stringing Peter along, but evidently ended up having feelings for him...but then again, he "easily" murdered him, when he runs into Meredith....I think we can agree on the fact that Ripley was bisexual :)

  • Comment removed

  • @zmforged

    SPOILERS

I don't think Ripley facies women. He didn't kill Peter for Meredith, he killed Peter to save his own ass, although i'm not that sure how he will work it out this time. Too many people died, they are all related to him and he can't live as Dickie. I think he's already losing it towards the end. There are better ways to fix the Meredith prob, and he's definitely not thinking clearly when he went ahead and murdered the love of his life. That's not easy on him at all!

  • @ilovesexilovenaked

I often thought about that myself, and no im not gay irl, and not that there is anything wrong with that :) However..

I dont think he was gay, but more driven by his inner demons that he was willing to do everything. Just my thought.

  • @zmforged i agree. i think you're so right. cuz i knew that in the novel he, at last, marries a girl. driven by his inner demons is the right word to it; thanks a lot dear. i believe you're one of the smartest persons i ever met in youtube.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked

Thank you kindly ilovesexilovenaked :) I havent even read the book to be honest ( I dont like to read much hehe ). But im such a huge fan of the movie, wich is such an intense thriller with excellent acting as well. The whole film is just one big love affair with how Italy was back then, I simply love this movie. In my dvd library over my movies, this alongside with shawshank redemption, is the only two out of hundres, that I give top character, 5 stars out of 5 :)

  • @ilovesexilovenaked He is dating a guy towards the end and hits on Jude Laws character. So I would say yes.

  • @ilovesexilovenaked He was, yes. He has a boyfriend in the end of the movie whom he murders

  • @ilovesexilovenaked

    yes.

    He was inlove with Dickie.

  • one of my all time favorite films ! watching this film really makes you want to travel to Italy

  • great thriller...amzing screenplay...

    loved it!

  • At the book Tom seems to be very ugly but in the film he is gorgeous!!!

  • I hated tom in the novel, i liked him in the film.

  • i loved this movie.

  • I like the way he looks in this movie :) And the scene where he says "Your shivering, Marge..Can I hold you?" lol great film!

  • Awesome movie! Well played by Matt Damon too. :D

  • amazing movie !!!! love it !!!!!!!

  • I want to see this!

I am in love with Matt Damon!

So hot and a amazing actor!!!

  • The book is one of my favorites--you actually LIKE Tom, you feel sorry for him, but he's quite insane. Matt Damon was perfect for the role.

  • @BobbyNewb fun movie... very interesting
