I have a Scottie that will be a year old next month. She's super sweet, smart, and playful. She is really stubborn though, she's also fearless. I love my little Scottie and would recommend them to anyone :)
Our scottie LOVES people and could care less if we are around if there are other people there. Scotties were bred to hunt larger animals in burrows (otters and badgers) so they have very large teeth for a small dog. The stubborn part is dead on though.
Only 2 treats for sociability??? I'm a twenty-something who lives with her scottie and I SWEAR my friends only come over to see and play with HER. It's so cute that I don't mind. I've grown up with dogs and I don't know if she's just unique for the breed, but she's on the top of the list for one of the most social dogs I've ever met!
My grandparents just lost their boxer (she was only 3) really smart dog they miss her soo much I had a great idea,my grandma has always wanted a scottish terrior so I told my mom why dont we get her one this Christmas? And we are I can't wait to see her face.I really hope this puppy will live a lot longer p.s. if you have any info. on them that you would like to share please do.
@TheEquestrianForever Scotties used to be used to hunt small animals like, rabbit and squiral, they are violent and should not engage in violent activities like tug of war or wrestling, they are lovable, but they will be hard to control unless you show you are dominant. They won't follow your directions, like they won't stop unless you say "No" Loud and firm. They also shed little to none. Thats about all I know about scotties.

My scottie going to be 12 next month. He's slowed down and doesn't like taking long walks on his leash like he use to, but when he's off his leash out in the field hunting mice he'll run back and forth like a pup.
i have a puppy named diesel who is a scottie. He is a proper boy and we have not had him castrated, it is unhumane, He is not naughty just funny and never harmful. He will be a stud in a few years. My question is: Will he be a good stud?
does anybody know the best real foods you can cook for your scottie? everytime I try to find something online they want money for the information, any help would be appreciated, thanks
I'm a Scot living in the highlands, I've had Scotties for the past 15 years, I've never heard of "Scottie Cramp" before in my life until this vid. What the hell?
Such a "specific" ailment suggests genetic corruption of some sort. Suggestion : Compare DNA between both countries averages, then act.
A-lot of Scottish immigrants wouldn't have had much cash, as such a pet was a "luxury". Only the better-off could take one with them. As such, fewer in the gene-pool, possibly below equilibrium.
@GraphiteGum She was a bit of a joker, she would go and poop at the neighbor's yard, not ours, she'd also attack the hind legs of the neighbor's rottweiler, who d allways end up frustrated (she was very agile)When another dog tried humping her she'd just squat down and wait till "buddy" tired out.As I understand(I was traveling at the time) the neighbors ambushed her and after throwing a baseball bat at her ran her over. She was 16 at the time, and very healthy, could ve maybe lived a few more years
@GraphiteGum As I hear it,the daughter shot the dad in the head, and "all hell broke loose"in that house,so that's that.About the Scottie, even though they're very independent they do like pleasing they're master. With a little patience, and some obediente training you'll experience awesome results. My Scottie would do hand stands on command, believe me they are very smart and capable dogs.
i love Scotties!! i have a 2 yr old Brindle male named Indigo. he is 12 inches tall+weighs 25 lbs. his fav thing 2 do, wich heis super at, is lure coursing, true terrier instincs kick in when he sees that white thing flying across the field!!!
I love Scotties! I've had Scotties all my life (Woozle, Meg, Duff, Willie, and Dixie). All of them have been fiercely loyal and great companions. But they're stubborn! I've never had a Scottie that's liked another dog. If you're a human, though, you'll get along just fine! Willie is a scaredy-cat, though. :)
The saying on the video about Scotties being so smart and only staying off of the couch when being watched is so incredibly true! My Scottie, Chloe, is constantly going on the kitchen table to steal food but only when everyone else is in the other room!
I have had two Scotties in my day... Scottie was the first one and he was a sweet dog! Kept to himself but would come when you called him. And the one I have now Grady... is the best dog I have ever had... loves to kiss, and makes me happy to be home! I also got a Westie too! Black and White...
I have had two Scotties, the first one was fierce, loyal and tenacious. The Scottie I have now is SWEET, SWEET oh and sweet! Both Scotties are girls with very different personalities. The fierce scottie was a formidable defender the current scottie is lover.

My older male (sadly passed on) was very playful and loyal but only to his family. If there was any other person or animal he would rip there head off. My younger one (now 6) is friendly to all once he know we want them around :) Despite their problems I love every bit of them :) <3
i have a cairn[sp?] scotty mix that we rescued from the pound and she is just the sweetest dog i've ever met. i love the expression on her face whenever she does something bad. you can't help but immediately forgive her.
My scottie (Polly) is the best! We "rescued" her from a pet store at one year old, never out of the cage. She is our fifth dog, the others are schnauzers, but the minute she came in the house...she was boss. Gentle as can be and has never shown signs of aggression EXCEPT on a leash, when she turns into a monster around strange dogs.

A friend recently got a Scottie and I really dislike it. The dog is not intelligent, smell awful despite frequent bathing, and cowardly. Also, I don't know if it runs in the breed, but it can't be away from people for more than 5 seconds, which is annoying.
I have a scottie named MacPherson (Mac) and he suffers from scottie cramp too :( I wish there was some home remedy, even though it is said not to hurt them its hard to watch. When we play it slows him down and I can just tell when he gets that look in his eye that he wishes he could keep up and continue to play but he know he shouldd settle down :( any suggestions? He wouldnt like accupuncture I know that!
i had a scottish terrier/poodle mix. he was the smallest dog in the house and he acted like he was the biggest one. he wrestled and bullied all our bigger dogs. he was sweet but was sometimes mean and would nip at you if you tried to pick him up when he was sleeping. they have long lives as well. ours made it all the way to 18 and he was still energetic and barked all the time lol. great dogs not so much for little kids but great around older children/teens.
My Scottie is great around kids and animals. He's never shown any sign of aggression and doesn't even defend himself when other dogs attack him :( He's lovely and very intelligent, more so than many people!
The video is great! Scotties are great! They are the best and ours is highly intelligent. He shows his affection in many ways!! He is cute when he rolls on his back, playgul when he wants to play ball and highly sociable with other dogs. He loves walking with his friends: a lab, a cocker spaniel and two staffs. !
Scotties are the absolute smartest dog on the planet... They are the most stubborn as well!! They use logic to figure out their problems which are usually how to do things you don't want them to!! LOL I've had a lot of dogs but none even come close to the Scottie for personality!!
That is because the Coren system measures intelligence on what humans want the dog to do, not what the dog decides to do on its' own.
Obviously because it was bred to be an independent hunter, the independence itself should be considered a desirable trait. Hence it should be considered when one figures intelligence...

@RobbytheLion yYeah my dog does pretty much any trick you want her to do... yet she still ALWAYS runs into the wall when she is running around the corner (shes smart, but not wall smart haha & shes not blind either)... she's a mix between german shepard & golden retriever & shes been with us for 10 years so she should have the layout of the house pretty downpat by now.
As a person who has owned hundreds of dogs, groomed hundreds more and boarded even hundreds more... Many including those which the Stanley Coren intelligence quota is the highest!!
I can tell you that my Scotties can outfigure them in any problem you have!!
The system is unfair to these superior little dogs!

Mother used to have one, must say I'm not crazy on them,he had A LOT of health problems, and i find terriers too snappy, although he was friendly the only terriers I really like are the bully ones
