For the record, Nixon didn't resign "two months later", as Brian Ross reports. Nixon resigned in August 1974, 14 months later. That was a dumb error that shouldn't have been made.
As for Thompson, if he knew about these tapes before he declared his candidacy for president this year, then Nixon's point has been proved: He really is "dumb as hell" if he ever thought he could survive this revelation. In fact, if the tape's assertions are for real, wouldn't that have been grounds for disbarment?

But what about the big government beliefs of most of the Dems. That is what I hate about the Democratic Party. Gun control is stupid. Death Tax is also stupid. (Think you are forced to pay big brother his high taxes and listen to his double-speak your whole life and because you saved some of your money and invested wisely, your heirs are punished by the big whore that is big brother who wants even more after your demise.

Gun control is a different issue and there really isn't much incentive at all from either parties to expand it.
And despite the taxes the facts are the economy has grown significantly faster under democrats the last 100 years than under republicans. I have no issue with the trust fund baby tax either but if you do it's a minor issue seeing as the overarching issue is economic performance (if you ask me).
But anyway none of this has anything to do with corruption.

it doesnt matter how well funded it is, it is how wisely you use it. reagan and bush 1, at east, somewhat understood that, and brought the cold war to an end without any nuclear warfare.
bush ii, if president in 1984, would have brought on world war 3, and destroyed the planet.

Nixon's corruption is so bad that it makes me laugh when I hear him speak. If only Bush would have cared about his country enough to have recorded everything for us to be opened after he and Uncle Dick had died. That way the whole nation could laugh because their gone instead of loosing it and burning them at the stake if they were still here.

I think if every President recorded their conversations for the people to hear later, it would make all of our skins crawl. Nixon, Bush, Clinton, you name 'em. The Dems and Republicans do nothing but play a never ending "gotcha" game. That's why I can't support either party.

I've never seen any Democrats do anything of the magnitude of Bush or Nixon. I mean playing the 'even Stephen' card may make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but whatever bad things Democrats have done I honestly can't think of anything even aproaching what has happened the last 7 years of Watergate.

Yeah but you are not really contemplating the scope and implications of these actions. Democrats get blowjobs and lie to the courts about them. Republicans sabotage peace talks on (yes Nixon did this) to get elected and politicize war. It's also telling that pretty much all your Gate's are Clinton fraud related.
I don't really care who Bush will pardon he's made his mark on history already and most likely will be remembered as America's worst president.

I'll have to give the title of worse to Jimmy Carter but he did show us the horrors of socialism so we'll probably not make that mistake again. Nixon inherited Vietnam. He had two options, go all out or get the hell out. He should have just let the generals handle it. I would pull the troops from Iraq, Germany, South Korea, Phillipines, etc. and just tell them all, "if you need us, call us. We'll be guarding our borders." Then I would suspend all foreign aide until the debt is wiped out.

Jimmy Carter inherited the oil crisis and handled that about as well as Nixon handled Vietnam he also inherited a 7% unemployment. Heck if you look at his record he was better than all post war Republicans except Nixon in GDP growth, better than all but Reagan in unemployment rate change, more fisically responsible than all Republicans.
The only thing he was horrible at was inflation which again was caused by the oil crisis he inherited.

Now I know you libertarians have a tendency to call everyone to the left of you economically (pretty much everyone) a socialist, but I'd prefer it if we could stick to correct definitions okay? Socialism is the state ownership of all means of production. Not only doesn't Carter fit that definition in any way but he doesn't fit it especially better than any of his Democratic colleagues. Who have strongly outperformed their Republican colleagues on the economy the last 80 years (want the stats?).
