This isn't the story about the death of innocence; it's the story of its anesthetization. Despicable, crude, and words denoting moral behavior are losing their meaning today...
It's a tribute to what a good actress Patty Duke was that she makes that dog of a song believable. Also what was the director thinking having her move like that? At @8:49 her beads are looped over each boob...As for Sharon Tate, WHY didn't they pad her in the supper club scene? She's beautiful but Jennifer North was supposed to be "the body" with a gorgeous bust and Sharon's breasts look like barely a B cup. Also her dress is hanging on her so Patty's line about beads popping makes no sense.
@johnyzero2000 and I was raised to know better than to call someone a CS. Its the equivalent of using the n word so maybe you should learn how to treat people and not just the ladies, zerojohn.
Great cast. The young actors look fabulous. Susan Hayward looks great and Paul Burke - WOW. He was the reason I watched Naked City on TV as a little girl. I'm glad I'm finally watching it completely.
Why the hell am I reading these idiots comments on how this film should be remade?!?! This film should never be remade, it was made at the perfect time, as fabulous as the material is, it wouldn't translate as amazingly as it did in the 60's. I'm truly tired of people's insistence on remakes...I was born in the very late 80's and I completely get this film...just because I wasn't alive during this time doesn't mean I still can't relate or under stand the characters. STOP THE FILMING OF REMAKES!
@MPL029 "It's Impossible" and "Give a Little More" are both dubbed by Gail Heideman for Patty Duke. Both Heideman and Wilson are uncredited on the soundtrack label.
@skylur44 thats really awful that she wasnt given credit..Im surprised she didnt have a career (maybe she did..Ive just not heard of her)...esp. on Broadway...she can really belt it out.
actuallly helen lawso is supposed to be ethel merman. she often took numbers out from supporting players. neely is judy garland with the drugs and all. the film is about 20 years later in setting than the original book.
I had no idea sharon tate was so hott - slobber. In this movie and Dont Make Waves. Patty Duke can sing if that's her. Joey Bishop is classic, how did a guy who almost mumbles get so famous - skinny and smooth - nothing beats a sleek sixties suit. This film needs a remake....except this route to stardom from Broadway to mainstream doesnt really exist these days...Love that chandelier.
@limestoneroad This movie in its own way remindsme of the 1941 MGM movie "Ziegfeld Girl" starring Judy Garland, Heddy LaMarr & Lana Turner. But in that movie it was Booze that brought down Lana Turner. Heddy LaMarr & Sharon Tate's role seem somewhat similar. That is a very good movie to see it has great plots and songs and isnt campy. :)
@NFitalianGuy IDK they talk about pills that thy should only be red,white,green,blue,lavender,....I don;t get it. Yeah I guess Methadone. Which happens to be an off-white color. Why can't they just say the name of the drug instead of saying Red,Purple lapis ETC Dolls... This movie is Campy and so very gay. Dontchya think?
@Jeffluvs80s Well maybe the names of the drugs couldnt be used in th movie since Dr's were still prescribing them to people. The reds are Seconal which is a sleeping pill. Judy Garland died of an incautious accidental over dose. Seconal isnt used much anymore but many stars have died due to it and other ppl have died when they used to given out like candy on halloween. The movie is very campy and cult classic. I guess those kinds of films are always the one to become cult hits. The acting is bad
ohhh i long for the good ol days for when if a woman had a big pair of tits you could wheel out some witty one liner to those in ear shot for a cheap laugh, and maybe she would openly instead of secretly like it and a beautiful friendship could ensue, trouble is i wasnt born back then, i think i'm going to start a petition
