imagine being at the airport for the first time on an international flight having travelled for more than 12hrs, not knowing a word of english, being hassled by authorities, got lost on the airport for more than 5 and a half hrs, no one knew where he went, they told his mother who waited for more than 9hrs that her son hadn't arrived and so she went home after 9hrs of waiting, if only she had stayed at the custom hall and taken him home...breaks my heart

@bweazel This is not what Canada's about. These officers are complete assholes, but the entire police force are not trigger happy. We have a very low police brutality rate and criminal/civilian casuality rate compared to our friendly neighbour of the south (by percentage of criminals, not by population size) which is why an occasion like this calls for someone's foot up an ass or two. And the RCMP attempted a cover-up, which makes this even worse. Don't judge us by our worse example.
@BreakthroughE There is a rate for police brutality? Tell me, where does one find such a statistic?
Why is it always Canadians that feel they have to stroke their own cock all the time? So you guys have less criminals. Who cares? You don't have the right to bear arms. I'll take the criminals if it means I can protect myself without having to go check in with the police first to do so.
If that's not the pot calling the kettle black, I dunno what is. Take your own advice, hypocrite.
@bweazel Interesting that you call me a hypocrite when you don't even know me. You're the one saying that Canadians stroke their own cock, when I'm just pointing out not to jump to judge the RCMP. Having the right to bear arms only allows anyone access to a gun. On the note of this incident, which does not involve a gun, I don't know why you even brought it up, if only to show how much better the U.S is in your opinion. I can find you stats on police brutality that'll prove it. I did my homework

Sure, it does make things around us a little more dangerous, makes us safer at the same time though. We are not cowards. We take things into our own hands. As I'm sure you know, murder happens in Canada too.
the canadian customs at the vancouver airport sometimes or ofentimes show incompetency in handling travelers from international flights... they make people line up for 2 long and using elderly women volunteers in herding travelers to customs which makes it infuriating to some travellers who are pointed to go to longer lines. they are obviously ignorant about different languages. the rcmp acted more like caffeined bullies when soft words would have calmed robert down..disgusting incompetents!
Please never again... Une terrible tristesse et révolte en voyant cette vidéo qui montre l'inconcevable. Pourquoi vouloir utiliser une telle arme si on aboutit à cela? No more Taser! RIP Robert Dziekanski ... (and thanks for the guy who got this on tape)
canadians hate french , hate asian , hate Europeans , hate germans..they hate any one has a foreign accent ! canadians come from broken down home ! smoke weed and have sex with their kids ! sick society ! they go to afganistan and iraq and destroy and kill innocent people in the name of so call canadian freedome ..when canadians jailed thousands of japanese , italian and ucraniuns in consantration camps and imported thousands of chinese slavery to build the railroad across canada
@tiger1wild you're an ignorant idiot. Whatever mistakes your country has EVER made I'll make sure to paint you with the same brush. Go dive back into the shallow end of the gene pool you spawned from.
so, so very sad -- thank god for the guy who got this on tape -- makes one wonder how many times this happens when no camcorder is around -- tazers were invented to stop cops from fatally shooting suspects armed with toy guns -- they were never designed as an alternative to a billy-club -- why did this incident need to escalate to the point of killing a man?
Yeah the guys going apeshit at an airport which is a no no. But why didn't the cops try to use physical force first and/or pepper spray instead of just showing up and trying out their new toy? A bouncer in a nightclub could have subdued the guy! Were they on their Tim Hortons coffee break and show up in a pissy mood being interrupted during their "coffee and doughnut break"? Fucken PIGS! Hope there is no national RCMP as they are talking about eliminating them in 2012 when contract expires.
you cannot deny this guy was behaving strangly and he was not behaving normally by any means. If you do not admit that fact then you need to consider his behaviour.
i would be furious beyond imagination if i knew this man in anyway...they had no right to taser him, he clearly didnt understand what they were saying and he did nothing wrong. the retard "police" can't even be trusted anymore and they get away with anything they want, as you see...these "police" don't deserve to be alive...
I ammend my remark because in general I don't think police are heartless, and I'm sure they are individually affected on events that happen. It's the refusal to ever admit guilt or wrong doing....when in some cases, when the rug is lifted it becomes clear. This refusal is a system problem, no city wants to be sued endlessly.....a liability issue, big one. Strong leadership with a public friendly mandate may be good start. Sorry Robert.
It's not just staplers, the mounties snuffed out a guy with an umbrella. Never take a stapler or an umbrella to a police gunfight/show of force. Have our Mounties ever had shame or remorse? A big NO!
This man looks scared of something, we never get the full story, we dont know why he was acting like that and when stressed people react in different ways, not being able to communicate is very frustrating. I dont know if all my ancestors could speak English when they came here but we all came here at some time, unless you are a native. Is this what Canada is all about? Makes one a little nervous around the enforcers.
This really is a pathetic demonstration of power, they could of taken a way different approach, but no, I guess nowadays its normal just to tazer anybody whenever they see fit. First of all the police only came later on, he didn't look intimidating (posed no direct harm to anybody), he probably would of let them detain him. So it's normal nowadays just to constantly tazor somebody? You fucking dickless shits, that is an abuse of power in itself! The tazer is a very dangerous weapon! CORRUPTION!
Although I think the police may have used excessive force concerning this man as far as I'm concerned...he came to Canada...he should at least have a basic working knowledge of our ummmmm official language. Like "I don't speak English"!!! It is unfortunate that he died but in most other countries he would have been shot on site for misorderly conduct.
This about it...we all go on vacations to Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic and we take the time to learn some basic Spanish phrases!!!
What an embarassment, bad ass cops, one of them ( benjamin ) apparently hit & killed a motorcycle rider and went home with his his kids afterwards and had a couple of drinks of vodka. No words can express my anger at these four rogue officers who have discredited the RCMP and Canada as a whole with their irresponsible and unprofessional behaviour
The man travelled 14 hours or so from Poland tired and he supposed to meet his mother at the airport. She was told that he didn't arrived so she left. He was still waiting for her at the airport. I am glad that this didn't happen to my father who came to the US from Slovakia to visit me. He would also most likely die, because of his heart problems. When I saw this video I just couldn't stop crying. He came to a country to have a better life and instead he found death right after arrival.
Poor man. It was obvious that the officers wanted to use taser in any case to have some fun. 4 cops vs 1 foreigner (he was unarmed, he just got off from a plane), wow. Instead of trying to communicate with him in an intelligent manner they tased him. I can't believe that an international airport does not have an employee who spekas Polish or at least Russian. The cops didn't even try to use universal language such as "it's OK, no problem".
This Guy is a piece of shit! The fact is he is trying to emigrate to canada and has not even the most basic grasp of the english languge. What was here going to do here anyway? Apply for welfare? I am not a fan of the police but i think the world is much better off without this ignorant scumbag. It just goes to show what a bunch of pussies we are in this country that we are trying these police in court. What would happen in amereica. This country is absolutely pathetic!
@kitsmason You're a piece of shit! fuck you retard! he was seeing his mother that's been living in Canada for ten years and he wanted to be apart of BC building boom.
super cops shoot first ask questions later! I would hate to be stuck in a foriegn country and couldn't ask for help, aand be murdered cause they are to lazy to find an interpreter!
5:58 minute.Four fat cops come over with their arms raised up to 30 degrees like they are all buffed out and yell "WHAT DID HE DO...WHAT DID HE DO!?!?!!!"
Not knowing what the hell they got called for and whats going on???
Let me tell you about cops at the airports. Most of the time they are veterans from armed forces who are bored and sit on their asses in the office and wait for action all day. When something exiting finally happens they over exedurate and do those stupid things .
Fuck this.. I nearly broke into tears.. that guy was mentally unstable in a foreign land.. exhausted.. hungry.. not able to communicate with any one.. and then tasered to death.. shit man.. RIP
@Sowyet I am honestly very sorry this happened Sowet.it isnot the canadian people tho. we hate these guys too.it is embaressing that this happens.I honestly dont know why they did this but I hope they go to prison and get ass raped and then killed. I have cops that are my friends but these guys should never have made it thru into law enforcement.our cops are pretty fucked up.
1. The police should not have shot him with tazers. He did not attack anybody. They should have tried nonviolent methods first.
2. Dziekanski should not have been allowed into Canada. We need to screen immigrants much more carefully. This guy was out of control and wasn't of sound mind. You can't just start throwing things because you are stuck in an airport.
I think it si a failure of the immigration system and also of the police 50/50.
@DudeIII No. You're putting words in my mouth. As I said, police are responsible. If police had done their jobs right, he's still be alive; if immigration had done their jobs right, he'd still be in Poland.
I don't mean to be harsh, but do you think that Dziekanski would have been able to adapt to the challenges that being an immigrant entails? I'm talking about things like finding a job, overcoming language barriers, etc. That's a lot harder than a six hour delay in airport.
Dude hes polska not russian but who knows maybe polish people could speak a little russian and that woman who tried to communicating say ruseea, thats not how to say it if ur refering to the its rooski ruseea, i have no clue what that is definatly not the country because russia in russian is russiskaya federatsiya( russian federation) if i was there i could help
yes its really unfortunante and yes it could have been handled better. But you start throwing chairs around in an airport and people arent going to tolerate that in an airport especially. If you get tased, (and 1000's of people have) and you're one of the unlucky few with an existing condition that can't handle the stress, well this is what happens. We've all had frustrating days, I dont throw computers.
@tropicofcancer188 you know im pretty sure most people wouldn't survive being tased 5 times in a short amount of time. sure he was freaking out but its 4 police officers vs one pissed off polish guy. the police didnt need the tasers because he was complying to their orders. tasering shouldn't be the first option it should be the second to last.
Why were they looking for a Russian speaker? This man was Polish, as his passport should have told them. They couldn't find a single Polish-English speaker in such a big international airport while they were holding this poor man for 10 hours?
This is really distressing. What a poor guy, can you imagine feeling that isolated from everything, not being able to understand a word anyone was saying and then being treated that way by the police? Couldn't they have just found someone who spoke Polish?
Admittedly, everyone's shaky in airports what with terrorism and all, but the tasering here was far too much. It's almost as if the got carried away with it. Whatever happened to being professional?
omg this is so scary, that the people who are supposed to protect innocent citizens, are so cruel and brutal and horrifying!! POLICE ARE SCARY EVERYONE!!!
This is the first time I've seen this and based on all the press this story got, I'm now a little surprised. The video isn't brutal at all. Up until 8:30 before the one officer used his baton in excess, the rest of it seemed pretty routine. Lots of officers will taze individuals with even basic non compliance. I feel bad for the guy but is this really the full version that shows everything? Simply because I don't see much.
4 police -vs- 1 person....and they have to taser??? OMG, whatever happened to nightsticks and hand to hand training???? could they had not found a BETTER way to handle this??? this just goes to show that abuse of police power is a constant problem ALL OVER!!!
8m,27s - 8,30! Ten rudy miesniak dobija Dziekanskiego palka. Od tego momentu Dziekanski nie wydaje zadnych dzwiekow. Kanadyjskie gnojki bronia bandyty.
Yep, having a chair is a great reason to kill someone. And what if he was mentally ill...? I just don't understand why police didn't try to calm him down or communicate with him somehow? After all, police is trained how to negotiate in difficult conditions... Force should be the ultimate solution.
If the cops try to take him down without stunning him, there's a small chance that the guy might fight back and injure the cops. However, they really should have gotten a translator and try to communicate with him first. I think many police officers do not know exactly what is the likely hood that tasers cause fatalities, so they tend to use them more often than they should.
Computers are replaceable. Chairs are replaceable. Freaking RCMP got a new toy he wanted to use, and decided to use it when it was FAR from needed- and ended up killing somebody. That guy is a murderer, but I guess its okay in North America to kill foreigners if they don't speak English.
Thats fucked up. That's the furthest thing from justice possible. "Oh, we can't understand him, so let's just Taser him. Whats that? You're dying? Sorry, I'll keep on tasering you because I don't speak RUSSIAN
Tasers are supposed to be replacing GUNS. If you wouldn't shoot someone - you shouldn't use a taser on them! Apparently a lot of cops are too lazy or weak today that they don't restrain people - which is what you're SUPPOSED to do if the person is not holding a weapon. This is a sick, unnecessary death - and yes - I think it qualifies as murder. If you're a cop and you taser someone when you shouldn't have- causing that person to die - you are a murderer and should be treated as such.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I hope there is no cash in this incident for anyone....this man was definitely a problem and his mother's lawsuits are an indication of greed. Everywhere in the world we are aware of proper conduct in an airport - NO EXCUSES
This is so disturbing. For all those calling Mr. Dziekanski a maniac, keep in mind he had been stuck in the arrivals area for 6 hours, had just quit smoking and could not communicate. Was his first time flying, was going to a foreign place to meet his mother. Sure he "freaked" but considering the context it is not unheard of. The lazy ass police took all of a few seconds to try to talk to him. Could have done a lot more before whipping out the taser. They were 4 vs 1 for God's sake. RIP.
@baubauification "he had been stuck in the arrivals area for 6 hours, had just quit smoking and could not communicate. Was his first time flying, "
This exact scenario happens to hundreds of thousands of people a day. 6 hours laid over? Are you fucking kidding? Have you ever flown before? THATS NOTHING.
This guy was obliviously an asshole at heart, no matter what country he was in. If i acted like this in a strange country, i wouldn't expect to come back

If you watch carefully you'll see the cops within 15 seconds deploy in an aggressive stance around the victim then taser him to death they never attempt to help him but what do you expect from low class goons like the rcmp. You can only hope they somehow get the same but deep down I know they will always get away with this type of killing it's what they do best.
Anyone ever tried to stay calm while being electocuted? He's twitching on the floor as they taze him and holding him at the same time. Did anyone administer CPR after they noticed the heart wasn't beating and he wan't breathing? They set out to kill him and they did. And he wanted to come to Canada!!!!! Hope those cops go on holidays to Poland with their families soon.
This is pure and simple murder. These killers must pay. Put these macho assholes away for a very long time. This should be a lesson. Respect your fellow man or pay the price. Canada is turning into a police state that cannot be tolerated.
He's putting away his ASP baton, once they're extended you need a lot of force to retract them (so most people hit them against the ground or a wall).
0:39.....he was hyper-ventilating badly. his heart racing a hundred miles a minute. using tazers was a tactical error. and there will be hell to pay for it because Canadas Polish community will not let go till they get justice!
Je considère comme étant un meurtre, cette arrestation au pistolet Taser de M. Dziekanski.. Et j'invite tous ceux qui partage mon opinion, à le faire savoir en laissant un commentaire au bas de ce video youtube .Merci

You suggest a different choice of words for those power tripping fucks? No im not. Poor guy died, when he didn't have to. He's a victim to injustice in our system, like many other victims of police brutality.
the majority of people in western civilization understand that there are predators out there and the only thing standing between many of them and those predators are the police. the police have policies and they followed their policy. unfortunately, the guy died. a power tripping officer would have just tased him on sight but at least they TRIED talking to him before he started flipping out.
There was NO reason for the RCMP to taser him. He was stuck in that department for close to 10 hours, hungry, tired, scared, frustrated and probably much more and the security of the airport didn't even notice him loitering in there. His mother pleaded so many times to staff to find her son but they wouldn't. From the time the RCMP came there to when they tasered him was less than 30 seconds. How can you try and coupe with someone in less than a minute who doesn't even speak one word of english?
KANADA TO BARDZO GOŚCINNY KRAJ.W 1979 roku na pszejsciu granicznym w Lansdowne(N,Y,) zostałem w nocy sterroryzowany przez immigration i obrabowany pszez kanadyjskich celników (zabrano mi pierścionek) Oto kanadyjska demokracja
That's nasty... way to protect your country there was no reason why to take him down with the taser, the guy had is hands up that usually means cooperation or I give up.. three guys it's enough to take a guy down with out a gun. That's too sad for a first world country. I've been in Canada a few times, never coming back.
Were they too hasty? Probably. Were they "evil" and "cruel" as some people here are suggesting? Nope. They had no way of knowing what would happen and the taser is almost always the safest option in taking a man down as it rarely causes any sort of long term damage.
reading all these comments i have to say I'm in two minds about the whole incident. there is no denying that the police used excessive force which caused his death. one thing that does need to be remembered was
1: Robert was immigrating to live, but spoke no English...delaying his process
2. His mother hadn't bothered to get his flight time or details. something that could have caused him to be found much quickly.
3. the airport may or may not have told her that he wasn't on the flight as the airlines don't releases passenger lists after all. so they really had no idea otherwise.
4. There is no denying he threw a computer and chair across the room...though agitated, this was just the excuse the RCMP needed to arrest him
5. the tazering was out of order and most probably due to a break down in communication...caused by both the airport and Robert himself.
dude, vancouver is FULL of people who don't speak English. it's not mandatory here unfortunately. i think well over half the lower mainland doesn't speak english.
All the four RCMP officers need to do is to put him down and tie him up.For goodness sake he does not have ANY weapon in his hand. All I can say is that as a canadian this is utmost disgrace to our nation.
imagine being at the airport for the first time on an international flight having travelled for more than 12hrs, not knowing a word of english, being hassled by authorities, got lost on the airport for more than 5 and a half hrs, no one knew where he went, they told his mother who waited for more than 9hrs that her son hadn't arrived and so she went home after 9hrs of waiting, if only she had stayed at the custom hall and taken him home...breaks my heart

the canadian customs at the vancouver airport sometimes or ofentimes show incompetency in handling travelers from international flights... they make people line up for 2 long and using elderly women volunteers in herding travelers to customs which makes it infuriating to some travellers who are pointed to go to longer lines. they are obviously ignorant about different languages. the rcmp acted more like caffeined bullies when soft words would have calmed robert down..disgusting incompetents!

so, so very sad -- thank god for the guy who got this on tape -- makes one wonder how many times this happens when no camcorder is around -- tazers were invented to stop cops from fatally shooting suspects armed with toy guns -- they were never designed as an alternative to a billy-club -- why did this incident need to escalate to the point of killing a man?
lukafafrenz 1 year ago 2
Yeah the guys going apeshit at an airport which is a no no. But why didn't the cops try to use physical force first and/or pepper spray instead of just showing up and trying out their new toy? A bouncer in a nightclub could have subdued the guy! Were they on their Tim Hortons coffee break and show up in a pissy mood being interrupted during their "coffee and doughnut break"? Fucken PIGS! Hope there is no national RCMP as they are talking about eliminating them in 2012 when contract expires.

speedbumplol 1 year ago

There are two sides to this story.
I think it si a failure of the immigration system and also of the police 50/50.
makinawdandy6699 1 year ago
@makinawdandy6699 Immigration is equal to murder of unarmed man?
DudeIII 1 year ago
@DudeIII No. You're putting words in my mouth. As I said, police are responsible. If police had done their jobs right, he's still be alive; if immigration had done their jobs right, he'd still be in Poland.
I don't mean to be harsh, but do you think that Dziekanski would have been able to adapt to the challenges that being an immigrant entails? I'm talking about things like finding a job, overcoming language barriers, etc. That's a lot harder than a six hour delay in airport.

yes its really unfortunante and yes it could have been handled better. But you start throwing chairs around in an airport and people arent going to tolerate that in an airport especially. If you get tased, (and 1000's of people have) and you're one of the unlucky few with an existing condition that can't handle the stress, well this is what happens. We've all had frustrating days, I dont throw computers.
tropicofcancer188 1 year ago 2
@tropicofcancer188 you know im pretty sure most people wouldn't survive being tased 5 times in a short amount of time. sure he was freaking out but its 4 police officers vs one pissed off polish guy. the police didnt need the tasers because he was complying to their orders. tasering shouldn't be the first option it should be the second to last.
qbBoys 1 year ago
Why were they looking for a Russian speaker? This man was Polish, as his passport should have told them. They couldn't find a single Polish-English speaker in such a big international airport while they were holding this poor man for 10 hours?
mirandansa 1 year ago
This is really distressing. What a poor guy, can you imagine feeling that isolated from everything, not being able to understand a word anyone was saying and then being treated that way by the police? Couldn't they have just found someone who spoke Polish?
Admittedly, everyone's shaky in airports what with terrorism and all, but the tasering here was far too much. It's almost as if the got carried away with it. Whatever happened to being professional?

This is the first time I've seen this and based on all the press this story got, I'm now a little surprised. The video isn't brutal at all. Up until 8:30 before the one officer used his baton in excess, the rest of it seemed pretty routine. Lots of officers will taze individuals with even basic non compliance. randy224455 1 year ago

RIP.

All the four RCMP officers need to do is to put him down and tie him up.For goodness sake he does not have ANY weapon in his hand. All I can say is that as a canadian this is utmost disgrace to our nation.
