  • It is great to see these men treat this scroll with the respect it deserves. I just hope that they found a living member of his family to present this scroll to, if not I am sure the military museam will take good care of it and display it proudly so that all who visit will know the bravery this young man show so many years ago.

    The scroll shows James as having been in the 1/5th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers and also shows 'July 1915' and the 'Dardanelles'.

    A check on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website shows the following :-

    James Reid,service number 7547, 1/5th Batt. Royal Scots Fusiliers , KIA 12.7.1915 and being remembered on the Helles memorial, Turkey.
