  • ATTEN STEVE MARIOTT FANS, Please vote THE SMALL FACES INTO THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME, THEY ARE FINALLY NOMINATED, but they need your VOTES NOW, Vote at Rockhall.com

  • One badass band. REAL rock & roll.

  • i always thought....geez...where did the black crowes get their influence from....

  • Monaca Sounds So Much Like JR WELLS FOR SURE!

  • This was a drug smuggler's favorite. Lots of us in the Federal Corrections Center in Lexington, KY had this album, from all over the World. Few understand the references today. Nepal produced legal hashish (Governmental stamp) until about '70. Check it.

  • i lived in England for 7yrs so i have 1st hand knowledge of black napalese getting me weak in the knees, combine that with Newcastle Brown (great brew) and, and, aww what was i gonna say???

  • steve seemed to have more SOUL than any other rock & roll singer ever . whenever they were in driving distance of palm beach county i was there. a peice of me died when steve did.. R.I.P. I still listen to humble pie often

  • and I loce the Crowes too

  • Just listen to Marriott. HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rodgers and Marriott. Who else really is there. Best two in rock. This shit has got to be reborn again. There needs to be a backlash against the phonies.

  • Poor version of a great song - album version WAY better. This is your playing on drugs. haha

  • Stevie could do it ALL!! He was a TRUE ROCK STAR!! He puts most so-called "stars" to shame...of any period.

  • ROCK ON !!!

  • @SDK134 IN THE HOIE YA !!!!

  • WHAT DID THE ROLLING STONE DO TO HUMBLE PIE>????????

  • Stevie was such a great guy and so much better than anyone that's trying to be a star today..reason !, he was a born entertainer and worked fuckin hard to get there...Bloody reality shows should be banned they are crap, stars don't get made over night they work hard..

  • Bravo Gormley and Mydogspet: ...exactly. Rolling Stone is awful now, can't even begin to compare with its content during most of the 70's. Humble Pie is great..!!

  • peter frampton and stevie marriott started this band together...frampton is on their first 4 albums and his last one with them was the live fillmore lp. then stevie took total control...what a live band these guys were!!!!!..saw them many times in new york city . Best live band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the Rolling Stone mag sucks lol trying to tell me what to like...fk them...as do most mags...unhappy losers who wish they are artists...oh well...that mag is still a politcal mouthpiece for ...well you figure it out.....

  • Rolling Stone Magazine - "the world as they want to see it"

  • f all the friggin music critics, all anal retentive maggots

  • what is the time-line for peter frampton in this band, did he start with it? or just land with them, then leave, iv'e nevere heard a detailed story of his exsistance in this band.

  • Namaste Dear Mr. Marriot: what innovation You shared with us. We will join you in Itchy-Coo Park. Namaste.

  • yeah, the hole,not a hole,a-hole !

  • Wicked.

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • WOW

  • 30 days in THE hole, not a hole.lmao

  • @lkmits I was released from the public school system in 1971. I have had that nagging question since then. Thank you very much for the reply...Out of an infinite number of possiblities you've narrowed it down to three and really the Blackberries is answer enough. Just read everything I could find about them. WOW!

  • @MacEanraig You're most welcome. Glad I could help, even if it's 40 years later! If I had to guess, I would say it's Vanetta Fields because she was the "leader" of the Blackberries, but I'm not certain.

  • @MacEanraig One more thing: if you want to see the Balckberries singing live with Humble Pie, look for this video: Humble Pie Black Coffee.

  • Most awesome! I also really like Gov't Mule's version of this on their 1999 New Year's eve CD, wow Steve has such a great voice.

  • There is a voice...at the start of 30 days. It sounds to me (and always has) like the voice of a woman, perhaps a backup singer. I deep, rich, heavenly voice. She is singing the chorus and then breaks off- 'that's it baby- come on in' and they start playing? Who is this angel???

  • @MacEanraig It's one of The Blackberries, Pie's back-up singers. They were Billie Barnum, Vanetta Fields, and Clydie King. Maybe someone knows which one of the three says "come on in" (which I've heard is said to Stephen Stills).

  • @MacEanraig I believe its Steve at the beginning. Always have thought that. without a doubt think thats his voice as my kids think he sounds like a woman when lauging at the beginning of Roadrunner off the Smokin' LP. someone says " Lord have Mercy, and he says Thats it, come on in man!" ba bow -ba-bow!! alright alright alright- what a great F@#%in INTRO!

  • try to be more positive, know it's hard :)

  • I was a Humble Pie roadie/truck driver and if this show was in Detroit, we were almost killed! The band did two encores and when they wouldn't come out for a third, the audience started throwing bottles at the stage. One of my mates was sent to the hospital.

  • Warren Haynes dreams he was this cool...

    With a silver coke spoon....

  • Before the Black Crowes, there was HUMBLE PIE!!!!

  • @terrryc before humble pie there was iggy pop and alice cooper

detroit rules rock and roll !

  • @whoseyourdaddyful check your timeline

  • @whoseyourdaddyful as peach says, your timeline is a bit off. Here's what Iggy Pop said about Marriott: 'Steve Marriott and I didn't get on. Had a couple of brawls with him. But I would have scraped the shit off his shoes to have his voice. To have his looks too.'

  • @terrryc Don't even mention that half ass band in the same sentence as Humble Pie. I will never own one of their albums.

  • It's Thirty Days In THE Hole! Not A hole.

  • @superbeavo

Oops, sorry mate. Now I changed the tittle accordingly...

  • @Sirlongpass It's TITLE, not tittle! LOL Not your day, eh, mate?

  • @superbeavo Well, actually, one could spend 30 days in "a hole," as well as in "the hole."

But one would have to pull out occasionally to build up another stiff one, wouldn't you think?

  • 20 April 1991- Saddest day in rock music period. No one will ever top Marriott to me, his crazy unnatural talent & presence in all his bands was amazing. Kicked around & disrespectred by the suits, hanger's on & all the ick from the iindustry it may have helped him decline but thru it all Marriott NEVER COMPROMISED HIS MUSIC OR SPIRIT.!Play on Steve - out there under dreaming spires, perhaps somewhere out in the Universal, all too beautiful, all too talented & all too missed... ever always MMG

  • sawthem in hawaii at a sit down on the floor thing marriott actually sat with us for a minute.bonus -the osmonds were playing there the same night in another part of the arena

  • @mothergrace1 Shame is the osdmonds were cool in their own wey.. GET IT !!!

  • saw them 3 or 4 times in the 70's. i dont need no doctor!. great band at the time.

  • I dont know what it has to do with anything ,but, ROLLING STONE SUX!

  • I saw Yoko and Sean in a club about 15 years ago. She absolutely killed. It was a hair-raising primal blues rock experience. Top 5 concert and I've been to many.

  • MTV can blow me. This is the shit!

  • this is when Peter Frampton was cool

  • @underdogg705 ...that's not Peter Frampton

  • @underdogg705 not Frampton...Steve Marriott

  • Steve just wan't ment to love very long--Rest in Peace- the king of hard rock

  • "King Marriot!" Rocks !

  • Fuck rolling stone (no caps) dudes, they think Yoko Ono rocks, lol. This is real rock. I have loved this song since my parents grooved to it in the 70s. Listened to Iggy Pop, Led Zep.,Stones, all thast 70s stuff. It was, and still is, rockin'

  • Steve was rowdy! and I love it!

  • Cooler than the other side of my pillow!

  • Is this at Hammersmith Odeon?

  • Rock Gods

    Humble Pie + Durban Poison

  • @fuckutube74 lol. these were the days.

  • extra

  • 366,027? Really? This should be up in the trillions and beyond....

  • I believe that the song if pronounced correctly would indicate some sort of jail time...

  • RIP Steve Marriott

  • my new god

    steve marriot

  • Steve Marriot. : )

  • buen grupo.

  • mr blue...i live you

  • Has anyone noticed that the real name of the song is Thirty Days in THE Hole? It's kind of amazing that someone would have it together enough to post this video, but get the title wrong.

  • @truegangsteroflove absolutely right!!!

  • Go on Mr NICE Steve he is the ACE FACE

  • great performance. thanks for posting

  • I 'm too old for u guys , I love Small Faces on stage (was there ) I allways respected Marriot as a great performer , ...and so a lot others , I really don't care what Rollingstones say , and after a ton of years , I love what J.Mayer does , in this spooky musical desert we are crossing ...

Have no doubt about that , those saying J,Mayer sucks , don't have a clue about anything , and I suspect they don't even know who P.Frampton is ... R&R rules !

  • John mayer sucks!!!

  • Rolling Stone Magazine screwed so many great bands over. Go back and listen to the Early- Pre commercial Grand Funk Railroad. Mark Farner and Steve Marriot were the male versions of Janice Joplin. You don't get better than they were in the Early 70s. I have no respect for Rolling Stone.

  • @mydogspet Absolutely correct about Marriott being the male equivalent of Janis. Both gone way too soon.

  • @ceslesnyder I was amazed at Marriott's work with the Small Faces and Humble pie. He had that ability to sing constrained, and then to kick into overdrive.

  • @mydogspet As a music magazine, Rolling Stone stinks. There is some great political journalism going on at Rolling Stone right now though.

  • I'm so old, I remember when Rolling Stone was actually cool.

They are now EXACTLY what they used to hate.

  • @gormley14413 That is so true! I could not have said it better!!! Thanks!!!

  • @gormley14413 Ha! Me too OLD friend!! They actually are now THE ESTABLISHMENT!!

  • @jimistreets right!!!

  • @gormley14413 very well said

  • @gormley14413 Well put

  • Marriott rules ok. Comparisons with other greats like Eric Burdon are fine but they are subjective. The 2 of them are great in their own right but Marriott has the energy on stage and his presence is electrifying

  • marriott rocks

  • Dude could belt them out!!!!

  • look at dude @ 1:00 hes eye fuckin ol dude playin that juice harp lmao

  • This is from way back in the day when we had real rock-'n'-rippin'-rapin'-roll.

  • 2:38 to 2:44 you can hear that mother belting out his licks through other mics! Do not try this level of rocking at home, kids.

  • Kudos to you Fans who say the truth about Rolling Stone and the doubters! I've been a solid Marriott / Humble Pie staunch supporter since I was 10yrs old (and that was befor Humble Pie!!) . He is noted as arguably the best fucking White Blues Singer ever. If you haven't got it yet, get a copy of "Humble Pie Rockin' The Filmore" and PARTAY LOUD !!!

  • @ChuckyCheeze56

much as I love steve marriott and have done for over 40 years, go easy on the "best effin`white blues singer" stuff, mate!

ever heard eric burdon do "tobacco road" on "declares war"? no? then may I suggest a listen before passing the "best" judgement is easily.

steve marriott is a soulman, a belter and probably the best in his class, bar none. eric burdon however is in a class all his own, if you know what I mean...

  • rolling stone has nothing at all to do with music or anything close to music. a mere bunch of overweight swines trying to run what passes for news.

  • I like 30DITH and love Steve Marriott and agree about Coldplay and John Mayer and Rolling Stone being a rag, but, c'mon. This is a "Spinal Tap free-form-jazz-by-Derek Smalls" moment.

  • All that crap of modern rock surely will get ashamed when they see what a real rock'n roll singer and guitarist is this.

This man was called Steve Marriott from England.

He leave us in 1991. Isn't that sad?

  • @DaremoS Absolutely

  • i think calif's gonna get it done this year stevie. you were the best.

  • more soul than anyone should be allowed to have!

there's no one like the great Steve Marriot!

  • What a great PERFORMER! R.I.P Steve

  • @mcconkeyMOD Had no idea Steve died, when and how?

  • @mlowe327 In a house fire I believe around 89 or 90 maybe.

  • @TheZepmeister yep..correct you are. 4/20/91

  • Damn Steve you're awesome

  • If I didn't know better, I would've thought Steve Marriot was a Southern black man

  • God what a tragedy about Stevie!! God save his Cockney soul in heaven!!

  • @randallisrandy Learn your history, my friend. Small Faces opening act song was Willie Dixon's "You Need Love" early 1965. Listen to that song then tell me why Page

wouldn't have taken a much better known singer (Marriott) over an unknown Plant.

Page wanted Terry Reid over Plant for goodness sake.

  • Damn i wish steve was with me now, i've lost many band mates,great singers are hard to come by, MOVE ON!(;

  • pie rocks

  • I was fortunate to see Humble Pie at a number of shows in DC & NYC. Stevie is one of the Great Rock Vocalists. It's a shame that we have no recordings of him with his Friend, Jeff Beck. Stevie almost joined the JBG prior to Rod. Also, Jeff's 54' Strat (1980 era) was a gift to him from Stevie. Rock on!

    DC Rocker

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • I LOVE HUMBLE PIE !!! GREW UP ON THEM ! PRACTICED MY VOICE TO STEVE TO PERFECTION.. HE TAUGHT ME SO MUCH VOCALLY !

  • There sure are some homely women in that crowd. No wonder Marriott keeps his eyes shut.

  • You know... I feel pretty good myself too.

  • TUNE GIG

This man was a child star in the movies just like jonas bros lol

  • accidently come across the video. Never heard of this band being a spring chicken of 42 ! but have now been hooked on this tune. This live version is much better than the studio recording. Love the nerdy fans dancing around, did i see Velma from scobby doo in the audience ??

  • @Garry67 Im in the same boat. I got a copy of 30 days from some cheap ass best of the 70's hits cassette or some damn thing a couple of years ago. I've Heard of Humble Pie but never really knew who they were. I thought the singer was a black chick on the studio version. LOVE ThE SONG. I always thought "that gal has a great voice". I just found out today shes a dude:)

    Have a nice day!

  • @Sigkim Nice one matey. Is your fashion sense now based on the dude at 3.00 on the video, complete with big red shirt collars and lank 1970`s hair!!

30 days in the hole !!

  • @Garry67 LMAO..nice one,not quite that bad but close. I got long hair all the way down my back(growing from my head not my back)...tank top tees...501's and cowboy boots.

I call it a timeless look. My friends call it time for a change:)

    Cheers!

    (DAMN them some big lapels)

  • @Sigkim SOUNDS LIKE MY KINDA GUY..........

  • @Garry67 Kids today, I swear.. lol Nah, no scooby, he's a the snack bar.

  • I still cant believe what that shitty mag said about angus young being one of the worst guitar plays in rock history. wtf

  • @acdctrucklover No shit, Angus could probably by RS if he wanted with the money he earned with his lousy playing. RS said Ozzy was a has been around 88 or 89 too.Buncha idiots.

  • After all these years, Steve Marriot's voice give still gives me a chill - oooooo!

  • saw them 5 times. great band. all the below discussion is really unnecessary. I'm an old guy....53....I've seen everyone from Hendrix to the Sex Pistols to Zepplin to Cat Stevens and more. all wonderful music from interesting times....

  • I can't remember what year it was, but I saw Humble Pie FEATURING Peter Frampton, when they opened for Ten Years After.

  • @theoriginalbadbob guess only it was 1970 live at the fillmore east.ny ..I have a cd of ten years live at that concert in fillmore east...as well as humble pie...

  • @randallisrandy

Where did I say that Steve would have made for better? All I said that your heroes Page and Plant had Steve in a really high regard, they respected his music and his singing abilities.Small Faces had a huge impact on UK music scene. They inspired their contemporaries and many musicians from other periods.Music is no contest, you won't suck me into this ridiculous game "who's better" - it's all matter of personal taste, and your opinion about Plant isn't more important than mine.

  • @randallisrandy

    Marriott who?

Let me tell you, Marriott was Page's first choice for Led Zep singer in 1966, Steve didn't agree. Plant was a huge fan of Marriott, a big influence on his way of singing, without him I dare to say you wouldn't have had Percy. Check Small Faces- You Need Loving, you are an ignorant person, don't diss musicians that you know nothing about!

  • Steve=Favorite singer of all time! As for Bruce, I am not a fan. But I was forced to go see him live (long story), and I must say the guy can perform. What did Rolling Stone say about Steve Marriott? I never heard anything.

  • Ya got to give it to the Brits.....they saved American Delta blues from near obscurity....and made the best "classic" rock of the 70's

  • If you didn't live through the 70's you may, or may not, appreciate Steve Marriot. Whoe cares? Blind Faith, Hunble Pie, Them, The Faces? It's like hearing the names of a bunch of delta blues players, 40 years after the fact. Who the hell is Muddy Waters? Howlin Wolf? Robert Johnson? Elmore James? Shit! You better know! It's the real deal! Where is your heritage?

  • superband, great post, those guys got er done, who cares about critics?

  • Stevie- such a commanding presence!!

  • Did anyone have as much talent as Steve Mariott? One of a kind- didn't know a white man could have this much SOUL!

  • had no fuckin idea peter frampton was in this band, faaaaaaaaaaar out

  • . . . amazing preformer ! ! !

  • you are now watching a REAL legend.

  • So good , the bassist is a genius...

  • I noticed there's a new remastered version of Smokin' coming out on April 13th! I hope it sounds better than the current CD. Must pre-order.

  • Thanks Greg , here they are live w/ Steve Marriot saw them 3 times live, next is Foghat.

  • Springsteen is not my cup of tea. When he was popular, I never got what people saw. He is popular but overall boring.

  • Really suckie song. Awful, really.

  • @dkinsac MAybe you should listen to the original studio version. If you don't like that one, you can't be helped.

  • Comment removed

  • Smokin' is frkng RIGHT! My two cts. worth on J. Mayer: I think his music sux big ones, BUT I think he's a great guitarist. Check him out on Crossroads with Clapton, etc. Good blues, just don't let him play his own sh...t. Glen

  • does anyone know why and when frampton left?

  • @2468oldschooltimes, he went solo in 1971. My understanding is that he left because he didn't find the bigger, harder edge that Humble Pie had to his liking. His solo material, while played skillfully, definitely had a more pop-based, single-oriented sound.

  • Saw Humble Pie at Winterland in SF sometime (1972-74) when I was a fetus :) Peter Frampton played guitar! One of the fricken best concerts ever!

  • Comment removed

  • They obviously haven't heard his 'Tin Soldier' or 'Black Coffee' on the BBC's 'Whistle Test'!

  • wow really.. going off what rollingstone says? the same magazine that bashed layla.. layla.. being one of claptons timeless masterpieces.. most annoying voice of rock and roll?! try most original and soulfull.. he connects with the audience in a way you would never understand.. so keep your critizism, pickle in your ass and trying to sound smart using big intricate wording to the professionals.. we dont care..

  • ouch! you should absorb the first sentence ofmy post before you get your knickers in a twist.

i love steve marriott's music more than you ever will... i was just quoting the magazine's idiotic article. i don't believe you are a true pie fan, you are too uptight!

  • i am eating my words as we speak lol missed that first part! my baad seemed like you were agreeing with rollingstone.. and uptight i am not.. im 22.. played guitar for 17 years of my life.. smoke weed everyday.. and free the rock world.. apologies arch!

  • apology accepted! nice to meet another gracious steve fan. especially one so young. now i must say i'm sorry for coming down so hard LOL.

i should have used quotes on their ludicrous statement!

Best of luck and wishes to you.

  • and before you go bashing steve marriott try to think back on who turned down the front man position for a little known band called, led zepplin.. second choice was mr. robert plant.. and my opinion marriott has more talent in his little finger than robert plant will ever achieve.. i digress

  • Terry Reid was the one who originally turned down the singing gig with Zeppelin. Reid, in turn, suggested Robert Plant. Robert Plant is said to have mentioned Steve Marriott as one of his early influences. But I digress...

  • I digress too...but in 1966 Page, Beck, Moon, Hopkins and JPJ recorded "Becks Bolero" together. They enjoyed playing together and they even wanted to form a band (with Entwistle instead of JPJ). They needed a singer.Page and Beck approached Marriott around May 1966 and asked him if he would like to be a singer in their band.Marriott was very flattered but eventually turned down the offer.Moon was responsible for the name Led Zep-he joked that the band would go over like a lead balloon

  • Thanks for the info.

  • I'm not surprised Rolling Stone bashed Humble Pie or said what they said about Steve. That magazine is the biggest rag in the world. I wouldn't even use it to line the bottom of my bird's cage. They're the same magazine that says John Mayer is a guitar god. Pretty much everything they say is bullshit, and their lists of top 100 guitarists, or singers, or whatever are all jokes. How that magazine is still around is a mystery.
