i was at this show and remember it was like hell was going to open up with all the rain, thunder and lightning.i know this sounds crazy but as soon as the first notes of eyes of the world started to play the clouds parted and there was the most beutiful sunset and a great summer like evening for the rest of the night.after hundreds of shows this was my favorite.thanks bill and cathy you guys also made it special.
anyone try jamming along to the entire song even just the rythym straight!! holy molly i atleast i think it hard to just go for it like that, and it actually come out the best music ever made, these guys were definitely built to last..
Bruce is one of the greatest of all time, I dont know why he looks so frustrated through the middle of the video, seems like a fine jam, maybe he just wasnt feeling it
I was at this show, loved every minute of this show. One of my favorites shows of all time. Fun show. I was 30 then. Longtime Deadhead, Deadhead forever, 29 years now. Bruce was the best, every show he did with the Dead made the band that much better. I think he was having fun being part of the band and playing that music. So thankful for the Dead and all the jambands.
this was actually part of an hourlong show all about this run that aired on a program ABC had on at the time on Friday or Saturday nights like around midnight- they had this performance from the 6/17 sow along with the previous night's Saint of Circumstance on and a Miracle from that night as well along with hilarious backstage interviews with Jerry and Bobby discussing the rainforest and hawking cereal that benefited the rainforest cause lol
Pure bliss-I was on the floor at this show as the soft rain falls and the Dead open with an Eyes for the ages with Bruce Hornsby jammin with Jerry no less
i was at this show on the floor-pure bliss as the boys open with Eyes as the soft rain falls down-good jams on the keys from Bruce Hornsby on this version...
@hendrixphish420 - It is the exact opposite. The younger guy-Hornsby-was very comfortable with the Dead and played note to note with them.It was the other guy-Welnick-who was filled with doubt and a lack of confidence.Hornsby was such a perfect match even if he was not big on the B-3.Sadly,Welnick never could make the adjustment.
is there any artists currently performing still good? survivors gettin' old, neil young maybe ... dylan is like so funny, ... who's left? anybody new ? Cobain dead, ah well... discuss amongst yourselves...
i love the reassuring look that Jerry gives Bruce at about the 4:00 mark its hillarious. it seems like bruce is gonna lose it then Jerry just smirks at him, and he knows it will be alright
yeah man jerry is freakin rockin out hard, was at this show just dont remember if i was inside or chillin in the parkin lot, place is a dump good thing there tearin it down this year but its huge and loads of fun there was a 6/8 foot drop onto the floor ill always remember the rush once the lights went out man.....

Thanks. Don't know how you made that out as I couldn't. But then for years I thought "sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own" was "sometimes the songs of the year are just songs of our own". It works. Maybe I should write to Hunter !!
Very nice video. Too bad they didn't pan the audience more, or really at all. Without the fans, The Dead wouldn't have been shit...and vice versa of course.
Not a bad version. It's always interesting. The Shoreline Eyes on Youtube is a little more together- Jerry is very with it and laying down some beautiful, fluid lines. He's a little disjointed here.
@cutis1000 My take on it (call me a romantic) is that he is so honoured to be playing with the Dead he's a bit awestruck. It seems at one point that Jerry is encouraging him to be himself and let it flow. I'd never heard of Hornsby but he looks a really nice guy and his keyboarding fits right in. I don't think the Dead would've taken him on unless they'd somehow felt he was in synch with them.
No no for sure what U say is true. Watched this a good few times. It's great and I've got to notice that more and more. Love the Dead so much it's difficult to find anything negative. Jerry looks like Father Christmas out there !! Really happy. When he was having a good night is he something. This is such a beautiful song. Hunter is a very underestimated lyricist. The words and the music go together perfectly. What's weird is that Barlow is so good as well. They're both great in their own ways
Wow..one of the best vids i ever seen..freal..and agree with that 3-5 min trip to a high place that they always somehow..got ya to..best band ever..so orchestrated and together...rare these days;
Hey, why not? Heaven's a real place indeed! Everything you want is there. You can follow the scene for 100 years, hang-glide for another 100, visit grandma, etc
Bob has allot of "phase" on his guitar. Likely an MXR phase-100. It makes his tone fade into the rest of the music. It's there, you have to watch him and listen for a "wooooshing" (is that a word?) sound. Once you find it you'll agree that Bobby is fan-freaking-tastic!

There is no "end" to buddhism or buddhists for that matter. Reincarnation is a big belief. Not reincarnation as a just a human, but as any living creature.
Remember this one well, rain just stopped ran into a group of friends and exchanged hugs, eyes started playing and we started dancin!! Great show, day before was not. When the gd did the Sun-Mon thing at Giants Monday was always the night!
i was at this show (18 years old) and these were my first ones! the first nite, we kept walking and got to the second row during set break! it was the closest ive ever been at a concert, and remember 2nd sett seeing jack straw, china/rider, black peter and others...it was incredible.
wow all i can say is im almost glad vince isnt here to read the shit you people post about him. sure he wasnt my favorite gd keyboardest but have some fuckin respect for the man that helped to make the show go on and carry jerry for a few years as well.
Rumor has it the Deads soundman at the time was in charge of all of the cheesy type effects you hear Vince switch to...all Vince heard in his monitor was piano, the rest he had no control over!
Bruce was just a much better fit for the Dead's style of music. Unfortunately he had his own career to pursue but at least we had him for a short while. Vince's sound, both his playing & vocals, just never jelled that well with the overall texture of the Dead's music.
I watched every second and man... what a lineup jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby. It doesnt get much better then that..
i was at this show and remember it was like hell was going to open up with all the rain, thunder and lightning.i know this sounds crazy but as soon as the first notes of eyes of the world started to play the clouds parted and there was the most beutiful sunset and a great summer like evening for the rest of the night.after hundreds of shows this was my favorite.thanks bill and cathy you guys also made it special.

Rumor has it the Deads soundman at the time was in charge of all of the cheesy type effects you hear Vince switch to...all Vince heard in his monitor was piano, the rest he had no control over!

The rest of the band doesn't look too happy with were Vince is going with this.

Bruce was just a much better fit for the Dead's style of music. Unfortunately he had his own career to pursue but at least we had him for a short while. Vince's sound, both his playing & vocals, just never jelled that well with the overall texture of the Dead's music.

I remember hearing Bill Payne from Little Feat was going to take the spot. That actually would have been sweet! It was probably just a rumor though.

I watched every second and man... what a lineup jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby. It doesnt get much better then that..
