  • wow, great demonstration of the power of Marriott's voice! and just a note, this song was written by Hank Williams and is called I Saw the Light, not Praise The Lord

  • I love this song, his voice is perfect for it

  • Marriott never needed a mic!!!! Sleep well friend.

  • thanks dickygilbers...RIP Ian.

Strange days, he died one day after i met him here...some people - the goodness just shines out of their eyes..

  • Wow it's Steve!!! So nice, have not seen. i don't think red shirt is that annoyed... Who is the tall dark-haired guy behind Steve giving him an arm around the shoulders?

I love how much fun he is having.

  • @MsArchangelcat; that's the late Ian Wallace, drummer with Snape

  • Steve was off his tits I reckon.

  • Praise Youtube and thank you fritz51323 for sharing this gem with Steve Marriott fans. Reminds me of how the midget blew everyone away in Good times by the Easybeats and Daddy Rollin' Stone by Johnny Thunders.

  • at 0:26 steve and bill look totally at ease with each other and straight after the guy in the red shirt points towards the microphone as if to gesture to steve 'join in with the singing'....well that's how i see it anyway.

  • I agree, collibosher. Although maybe the red shirted guy didn't know Steve very well when he inviited him to join in. :D

  • Bill did indeed do a great job. Good thing Marriott was doing BACKUP or he'd blow Bill off the stage (and everyone else). Bill enjoyed Steve's contribution and the only one who didn't was Red Shirt .. was he the one who posted the previous comments??

  • Praise the Lord, I've seen Steve Marriott! This is great. And Clifton seemed totally cool about Steve's unavoidable domination of his song. But the Red Shirt is pissed and the guy in the sunglasses (not Alexis) seems to be trying at times to physically restrain little Steve!

  • Reminds me of that old SNL sketch when Celine Dion would proclaims she was "zee greatest singer in zee world!" and proceed to physically blow everyone else off the stage. Little spitfire just couldn't help himself. If Steve was gonna sing, he was gonna sing out.

  • Other performers invited Steve up on stage with them at their own peril. He couldn't help the fact that he had that kind of vocal power.

  • Great to see this again,i've got it on VHS in my attic. Turn it up at 2.51 as the solo starts you can hear Steve shout "Go on my son".Priceless

  • the greatest british rock voice, period. on how he isn't remember like all the other british giants, is beyond me. rock on, steve u. greg.

  • hahahahahaha marriot sounds like a leprechaun here...

  • No. Marriott just LOOKS like a leprechaun here. He SOUNDS like the vocal powerhouse he was.

  • hey ya know what gang - looks like Clifton kinda enjoyed Marriott's enthusiasm too! Shame red red shirt man couldn't enjoy the moment like Clifotn and Marriott esp watch Clifon's face in the begining when Marriott voice just throttles everyone else singing beautiful!

  • I can't believe Bill Clifton has never been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Bill Clifton along with Stringbean have been sadly passed up for the hall of fame. VERY SAD.

  • I love the videos of my all time favorite singer, the legendary Bill Clifton.

  • I see Marriott's devotees took control over this video hehehehehehe

  • why of course we would...it's Marriott!!!!!!!!ha!

  • Just like Steve took control over that stage! (see the look he gives that annoyed redshirt at 2:47. You wanna make somethin' of it?)

  • 2:37 Marriott eyes up the opposition - priceless!

  • I wonder what would have happened if Steve had joined the Rolling Stones (!)

  • The gentleman in the red shirt is Mick Audsley - guitarist and lead vocalist of this band:"the Echo Mountain Boys". He was the LEADER of this British band, and a strong-willed, "take charge" gent to boot. Likely he was concerned that Steve was stealing Bill's thunder, and was trying to get Steve to tone down his charismatic enthusiasm, lol!

  • PS The song is called "I Saw The Light" written by the legendary Hank Williams Sr.

  • As I recall, this was during a period where Steve was working/living in the Southern half of the United States, and getting heavily into it's "Roots" music. This was also the period when he pawned off a number of his treasured guitars. Clifton seems unaffected by all the attention paid the great Marriott here, but what would you expect from the man who organised the very first Bluegrass festival ever held in America.

  • Priceless...the irrepressible Steve Marriott...just how much do we miss him now. Watching this should make people understand why so many 'stars' of the day felt threatened by him. The guy was a natural born performer with a towering talent. A natural born leader too...just watch him conduct the proceedings. I bet Red Shirt Guy was thinking less than holy thoughts throughout...but let's be fair here...the poor guy did have STEVE F****** MARRIOTT standing next to him...LOL!!!!!

  • So agree with you! He was the best! A commanding talent and the best voice ever. Many were threatened by him you're right!

  • wow! Look at the people round him! He's stelaing the show & he's not even trying! Esp watch man in red shirt ,he's lookin none too happy bout it. Wish Steve had seen some kind of light he certainly had enough of his own. It's cool to see him doing this but he looks so out of place here it's heartbreaking.I get the feeling he was having too much fun for 'em Alexis looks a bit uneasy bout it too but Marriott will always be the best to me, hope he's found that light for real I truly miss him

  • This is great! I have to agree Steve is making those guys look worried and I think the guy in the red shirt wants to hit him! He's totally the centre of attention as he always was! Funny!

  • Hi Alquit4!

How ironic is it that all these jealous guys look like they wanna haul off and have a punch up with Marriott & the tune they are singing is all bout brotherly love, being saved, God etc.... maybe they should've all found the light. Oddest thing about this clip is 34 yrs later you can still feel Marriotts energy - so much magik in him .... glad you agree! Cheers, MrM's...

  • Agree with you. He was amazing! No one can project like Steve!
