wow, great demonstration of the power of Marriott's voice! and just a note, this song was written by Hank Williams and is called I Saw the Light, not Praise The Lord
Wow it's Steve!!! So nice, have not seen. i don't think red shirt is that annoyed... Who is the tall dark-haired guy behind Steve giving him an arm around the shoulders?
Praise Youtube and thank you fritz51323 for sharing this gem with Steve Marriott fans. Reminds me of how the midget blew everyone away in Good times by the Easybeats and Daddy Rollin' Stone by Johnny Thunders.
at 0:26 steve and bill look totally at ease with each other and straight after the guy in the red shirt points towards the microphone as if to gesture to steve 'join in with the singing'....well that's how i see it anyway.
Bill did indeed do a great job. Good thing Marriott was doing BACKUP or he'd blow Bill off the stage (and everyone else). Bill enjoyed Steve's contribution and the only one who didn't was Red Shirt .. was he the one who posted the previous comments??

Bill doing a great job on one of the best songs every written, I saw The Light, composed by the greatest singer that ever lived - the great Hank Williams.
Despite the posturing and racous & unmusiclal voice of Marriott Bill holds the stage and outsings, outplays and outclasses everyone.
Praise the Lord, I've seen Steve Marriott! This is great. And Clifton seemed totally cool about Steve's unavoidable domination of his song. But the Red Shirt is pissed and the guy in the sunglasses (not Alexis) seems to be trying at times to physically restrain little Steve!
Reminds me of that old SNL sketch when Celine Dion would proclaims she was "zee greatest singer in zee world!" and proceed to physically blow everyone else off the stage. Little spitfire just couldn't help himself. If Steve was gonna sing, he was gonna sing out.
hey ya know what gang - looks like Clifton kinda enjoyed Marriott's enthusiasm too! Shame red red shirt man couldn't enjoy the moment like Clifotn and Marriott esp watch Clifon's face in the begining when Marriott voice just throttles everyone else singing beautiful!
I can't believe Bill Clifton has never been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Bill Clifton along with Stringbean have been sadly passed up for the hall of fame. VERY SAD.
The gentleman in the red shirt is Mick Audsley - guitarist and lead vocalist of this band:"the Echo Mountain Boys". He was the LEADER of this British band, and a strong-willed, "take charge" gent to boot. Likely he was concerned that Steve was stealing Bill's thunder, and was trying to get Steve to tone down his charismatic enthusiasm, lol!
As I recall, this was during a period where Steve was working/living in the Southern half of the United States, and getting heavily into it's "Roots" music. This was also the period when he pawned off a number of his treasured guitars. Clifton seems unaffected by all the attention paid the great Marriott here, but what would you expect from the man who organised the very first Bluegrass festival ever held in America.
Priceless...the irrepressible Steve Marriott...just how much do we miss him now. Watching this should make people understand why so many 'stars' of the day felt threatened by him. The guy was a natural born performer with a towering talent. A natural born leader too...just watch him conduct the proceedings. I bet Red Shirt Guy was thinking less than holy thoughts throughout...but let's be fair here...the poor guy did have STEVE F****** MARRIOTT standing next to him...LOL!!!!!
wow! Look at the people round him! He's stelaing the show & he's not even trying! Esp watch man in red shirt ,he's lookin none too happy bout it. Wish Steve had seen some kind of light he certainly had enough of his own. It's cool to see him doing this but he looks so out of place here it's heartbreaking.I get the feeling he was having too much fun for 'em Alexis looks a bit uneasy bout it too but Marriott will always be the best to me, hope he's found that light for real I truly miss him
This is great! I have to agree Steve is making those guys look worried and I think the guy in the red shirt wants to hit him! He's totally the centre of attention as he always was! Funny!
How ironic is it that all these jealous guys look like they wanna haul off and have a punch up with Marriott & the tune they are singing is all bout brotherly love, being saved, God etc.... maybe they should've all found the light. Oddest thing about this clip is 34 yrs later you can still feel Marriotts energy - so much magik in him .... glad you agree! Cheers, MrM's...
