  • LOVE!!!!!

  • you have a beautiful soul

  • For any Paul Simon fan guitarists I have transcribed the vocal line and full-chord boxes of this song in a free PDF file for learning purposes only, of course? just email me at my channel and I will be glad to email you a free copy! Kind regards Lee Mitchell.

  • Love this album, Thanks.

  • I love this song. Pure Genius.

  • This is so great. Is this version available on cd?

    Dean

  • @dhloup1 It's available on his new album "So Beautiful Or So What"

  • @xxrosietxx Thanks for the reply. But I'm talking about this version..not the studio version from the album.

  • his voice is flawless

  • I'll be in Paris to see you with my 14 year old daughter...i taught her your words and melodies...

  • @BUFFETD Just saw him in Seattle. Amazing. Amazing.

  • This is just one gorgeous song. The chord progression and melody are exquisite. Then you add what initially almost appears to be a kind of rambling lyric, that ultimately leaves this very sad but poignant statement about how confusing this human journey is and how we seek love as a refuge, however imperfect, from the ravages of living. The term "artist" is tossed around rather casually these days. Paul Simon embodies what it means to be one. About as good as songwriting gets.

  • A new Paul Simon album entitled "So Beautiful Or So What" is due out on April 12, 2011. It includes this song, "Love In Hard Times". The full track listing is as follows: 1. Questions for the Angels 3:49 9. Love and Blessings 4:18 10. So Beautiful Or So What 4:07
  • @linclink Great news!

  • As a young person who is constantly inspired by the catalogue of amazing songs this man has produced, it's inspiring to know that he's still got it. This is simply beautiful. I would encourage everyone to watch the whole Barnes & Noble interview because he explains his thought process while writing this song. It's such a gift. Thank you Mr. Simon for all the songs you've written. You inspire me everyday.

  • @chunkychewie Thanks for the rec! Starts on the 4th vid of 7, 4m20s.

  • Would someone please send me the chords, thanks.

  • Ive heard paul has 4 new songs recorded and he is working on a new album can any one confirm this?

  • Confirmed unfortunately the record company wanted 10 and Paul just doesn't want to do that. As he often says, he can't write like he used to, so it's VERY unlikely the album will come out. We'll see. I would like to see Paul do one more album but we'll see. His voice is going as he ages so his time is very limited on how long he can keep recording.

  • Thanks, I hope he can make one more too... He's by far one of the best American song writers of all time

  • @hammerofharpel Good news a 10 tracks album entitled "So Beautiful Or So What" is due out April 12, 2011. It includes: 1. Getting Ready For Christmas Day 4:06 2. The Afterlife 3:40 3. Dazzling Blue 4:32 4. Rewrite 3:49 5. Love and Hard Times 4:09 6. Love Is Eternal Sacred Light 4:02 7. Amulet 1:36 8. Questions for the Angels 3:49 9. Love and Blessings 4:18 10. So Beautiful Or So What 4:07
  • My mistake. The 'any other wayy-yy-yy' bit is played on the 1st and 3rd strings-for example -using these fingerings XXX4X3 -XXX5X5 - XXX7X7.He may also use an open D string with those notes. What do you play on the 3 chord part under '...tips of cotton woo -oods'? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi sk8rsam88,the chord under 'love in these hard times'? I play a Dm7flat5(actually,a full tone lower,as Paul's guitar is tuned down). Starting from the 6th string-X5656X. The piece that leads into the bridge,I think is simply C - Eflat - Gm. The 'any other wayy-yy-yy' I don't know? I just play some 'double stops' on the 2nd and 4th strings,in D?? Sorry,I actually haven't played it for ages,so I have to re-learn.

  • I am currently working the guitar part out. I'm probably 90% finished, but for a few chords that I just can't get right. Underneath the words/part of the song that goes 'There are galaxies yet to be born' is one. I think the chord is the same one that opens the song. What that chord is called is almost as big a mystery-I call it a C2add3/G??? Is anyone else working on it? I'd love to swap notes,so to speak. I apologise for the long post.

  • yea I'm working on it too. Theres a few mystery spots. When he sings "love in these hard time" I'm not sure about what he's playing. Also the walk into the bridge "...in hard times mmm mmm mmm" and out of the bridge "can't describe it any other wayyyyyy yyyy" im unsure about. Let me know if you have ideas and if you have any questions fire away.

Paul Simon = absolute genius. From American tune to the boxer to Something so right to Still Crazy --- nothing but perfect song writing

  • By the way, it's definitely Love IN Hard Times, not Love AND Hard Times.

  • I have the book Lyrics 1964-2008 and I looked it up because you confused me. There the song title is mentioned Love and Hard Times in the contents as well as on page 369 and page 375. However in the song Paul Simon writes the line Love in Hard Times, as you can hear him sing. I think the song title is right, it is Love and Hard Times.

  • Yeah, it has to be Love and Hard Times then. I thought that it was Love in Hard Times because of the name of Paul's BAM performance in spring, and because he sings clearly "love in hard times". A bit confusing.

  • We'll just have to wait and see what it says on the next album he releases. I pray this will be on it and whatever the name it is listed as is what it will come to be known as.

  • What a beautiful song. Didn't do much for me when I first heard it, because it's not like anything I've heard before. Still it sounded very interesting right from the start.

Musically the song is very complex, lots of changes in time signatures and other interesting details. The lyrics are the work of a poet. There are no words that are out of place.

I appreciate Paul Simon's music more every day.
