Man.... unbelievable, this game was made in 2001 and is one of the first mmo's, and yet it feels so.... years and beyond years above any other MMO I've played.... I played this game and played WoW and others and thought WOW they really copied AO in this part big time.

Anarchy Online is ok. I tried it about a year ago and played for a month or so as a engineer. It's a big game. Sprawling landmasses and some space. But it's hard to escape the feeling that vast parts of it are ignored and decaying. It's not like logging into a game that was launched last month. If you can accept the decay then you will find a deep game, though. Lots of skills. Lots of details. Be prepared to be confused by all of it while you figure it out.

Give this one another chance. Play it till the end of Abandoned subway. (Youl be level 24 by then). Kill the few bosses (Eumendes - the one EVERY veteran remembers) - Vergil and finally making your way to the last one. By that time you truly love or hate the game.

The uniqeness about Anarchy Online is the huge amount of character skill customization, more than probably any other game.
AND you can twink you're character to insane levels with implants - a lvl 20 can have quality lvl 100 implants or more -endgame is lvl 200 for free play, 220 for paying.
I have a lvl 170 fr00b (omni) and I was wondering if the game was worth paying for at the state it is now. I'd roll a clan since omni side feel dead, I don't know bout clans tho.
anarchy online is not about mindlessly leveling. there are epic quests, random missions, large areas to explore, really good story-lines, complex pvp systems and old players love to help newbies. there are so many things to do in this game. there is so much this review didn't cover. play it to level 50 as free to play and realize you haven't even covered 1 tenth of the entire game. if you can afford to pay, it will be worth every penny.

why is hp red, well id seggest that the redness resembles the color of blood or a heart, so as u loose health, it is not the same color on the area in which the health was lost. i can't imagine your blood or heart being black. i mean sure, scientists might believe blood is blue, but red when exposed to oxygen, however it is the color known to resemble it, as it is seen this way by people.

For any new player, DO NOT use the suggested IP distribution, it's terrible and you'll gimp yourself quickly. Read some guides on the proffession you choose and where the skills should be used.
The reason why some skills are green/blue and so on, is that the green ones costs less advancement points to improve on, than a dark blue one. at early levels, it doesn't mean much, but later on it means a lot, since the skills costs increase exponentially.
God, does term Cyberpunk mean something to you? Guess not, melee weapons like hammer etc. are pretty much common in cyberpunk. Anarchy rules, its one of top mmos, but its kinda tricky to play, cause its nmot like wow when you het items along the way and quests points your way arround game world. This is clasic hardcore mmo, where you got to figure out everything yourself. Or ask ppls, cause no game has better comunity. Random money? Normal. Free lvling? Also, etc.

You are pretty well informed about the game. I myself have been playing AO on and off since its debut in 2002 (yeah 10 years... crazy huh?). Anyway, I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Don't be fooled by the graphics which have become iconic for AO at this point. Community is great and the skill system is so deep that many players make a hobby out of twinking!
Love this game! The details involved with twinking your characters stats can be mind bending sometimes. The lag can be a little frustrating, but the req's for it are small enough that I can even get it to play on my netbook :) !
@Romeomoon yea Anarchy Online is easily my favorite game of all time first time i played it was like 7-8 years ago i only stopped because so few people remain in the F2P zones :( i remember when sub and ToTW would be packed with people outside and youd never have trouble finding a group but youd have trouble actually killing because so many played! now your lucky if you find a group of 3 people :(

Only reason why me and my friend have gotten our Fr00b Enforcers up pass 70 is because we know an 8 year veteran in real life who still plays and can help us twink into our stuff. We're all in The Independent Rubikans org if you're ever on. They've finalized the new Age of Conan engine and seem to be setting up AoC similar to AO's Fr00b vs. Paid account system. This person does annoy me.
1) he says the game is slow paced. He is walking on a level 2 with the slowest possible weapon on the island.
2) It's a sci fi game, but what's cheaper? Lazers or a piece of wood. You CHOSE the big guy with the big, heavy melee weapons.
3) Hammers are not used like swords. That's why there's two different Two handed skills.

The reason enforcers use hammers is because they were used as workers in the Notum mines on the planet, by one of the factions in the game - omni.
The workers rebelled and formed the clans, which is the other faction.
The third faction is neutral. Then theres the ICC which acts like a kindof galactic united nations, overlooking.

Is it possible for you to do at least one review without mentioning World of Warcraft? Try to think about how reviewers critique'd games before it came out, it is not so definitive that every game needs to be compared.

this is riddiculous: they didnt care about graphics when runescape got grade: excellent. and runescape had T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E. graphics these days. ik that currently RS has nice graphics, but some time ago... pfffffffff

@MrSecretny i used to play runescape. i like it but i dont play no more. in rs you cant survive if you only use 1 combat skill, i like acounts like that. and u need money lots of.. and for making money, for me its to hard =/ and i dont like to only click on the mouse

i read the article and i disagree with final grade: fair. because you wrote that huge world and many stuff in the game is ruined by dated graphics. this is bullshit - who cares about graphics?! there are some games with worse graphics that are great! you failed this review!

I don't like the graphics or the gameplay. It's the same crap that ALL mmos have. Anyone who is so easily amused by grinding might as well pay me the same money to come to your house and throw a deck of cards all over your living room and then toss you a piece of candy for picking them up.

why is hp red, well id seggest that the redness resembles the color of blood or a heart, so as u loose health, it is not the same color on the area in which the health was lost. i can't imagine your blood or heart being black. i mean sure, scientists might believe blood is blue, but red when exposed to oxygen, however it is the color known to resemble it, as it is seen this way by people.

For any new player, DO NOT use the suggested IP distribution, it's terrible and you'll gimp yourself quickly. Read some guides on the proffession you choose and where the skills should be used.

The reason why some skills are green/blue and so on, is that the green ones costs less advancement points to improve on, than a dark blue one. at early levels, it doesn't mean much, but later on it means a lot, since the skills costs increase exponentially.

God, does term Cyberpunk mean something to you? Guess not, melee weapons like hammer etc. are pretty much common in cyberpunk. Anarchy rules, its one of top mmos, but its kinda tricky to play, cause its nmot like wow when you het items along the way and quests points your way arround game world. This is clasic hardcore mmo, where you got to figure out everything yourself. Or ask ppls, cause no game has better comunity. Random money? Normal. Free lvling? Also, etc.

@joelklavins Meridian 59 was the first and is still active today. The sad thing is that I think Meridian 59s PvP is still the best. All the games today are so cookie cutter. I am looking forward to a game called "The Secret World".

@T3hPCGamer It's because you never went to a war in the game, when your ready for a war, you get very anxious and when it starts your PC lags because of the amount of players shooting each other there.
The entire game isn't just cops. If the game hadn't cops, then the roleplayers lifes(in this game) would be ruined.

You are pretty well informed about the game. I myself have been playing AO on and off since its debut in 2002 (yeah 10 years... crazy huh?). Anyway, I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Don't be fooled by the graphics which have become iconic for AO at this point. Community is great and the skill system is so deep that many players make a hobby out of twinking!

Love this game! The details involved with twinking your characters stats can be mind bending sometimes. The lag can be a little frustrating, but the req's for it are small enough that I can even get it to play on my netbook :) !

@Romeomoon yea Anarchy Online is easily my favorite game of all time first time i played it was like 7-8 years ago i only stopped because so few people remain in the F2P zones :( i remember when sub and ToTW would be packed with people outside and youd never have trouble finding a group but youd have trouble actually killing because so many played! now your lucky if you find a group of 3 people :(

@MonkiFuzzProductions Yeah it's still pretty empty, even with them combining the German server with RK1. Only reason why me and my friend have gotten our Fr00b Enforcers up pass 70 is because we know an 8 year veteran in real life who still plays and can help us twink into our stuff. We're all in The Independent Rubikans org if you're ever on. They've finalized the new Age of Conan engine and seem to be setting up AoC similar to AO's Fr00b vs. Paid account system. Here's to new graphics soon!
