Blackmore is the only guitarist who can play Smoke On The Water and i enjoy listening to it ..anybody else that plays it just makes me say.."You're Not Ritchie Blackmore!"
I think he's talking bullshit here. We all now that purple started with smthg like gibson semi-hollow and he switched to fender to follow Jimi. I also can't imagine someone evening the fingerboard after scalloping. they would simply replace it with new or it would be too thin to scallop again.
"we did in rock, which is one of my favorites. then we did fireball [gillan's personal favorite], whick is not one of my favorites, and then we did machine head, which, again, is one of my favorites"
To me In Rock is the hardest, Fireball is the most interesting because every song offers something different and Machine Head is the best as a unity! 3 GREAT ALBUMS!
Agree. Even if Coverdale is not the greatest vocalist of all time - a little more respect doesn't hurt. Even if you're Ritchie B. And he whine about Gillan, and about this, and about that, but he is himself a monster of egotism. Blablabla - I'm listening the guitar but nothing more. Sounds like you cannot believe a word from what he says.
The band mentioned by Rich at the start of the interview is "mountain" fronted by Leslie West. They played at woodstock but disbanded in 1972. They were awesome and can properly described as pioneers. They were before Zeppelin, Sabbath and Steppenwolf. Mountain were the first.
My first rock concert was Mountain in 1973 at Miami Jai-Alai. Saw Sabbath in 1975, same venue. Zeppelin in old Tampa Stadium1976?77(3 songs, it rained for 20 minutes, they flew away in a helicopter, riots, cops, blood, bottles, my girlfriend passed out in someone's motel room): Saw John Kay's Steppenwolf in 1985, what was left of them after 20 years. Acid rock was my favorite as a teen. Now I like to play improv. Ritchie Blackmore's music has inspired many guitarists on the planet. Me included.
A really interesting video. Could someone please tell me the name of the band Ritchie mentioned in the beginning (not Vanilla Fudge but the other). Tried to listen to it a several times but couldn't hear the name. Probably mountain something.
omg that is awesome. now i wanna go put one of those on the head of my guitar too! =p i like how he shredded on his oldest electric, though, sadly, I could barely hear it.
Ritchie is the man...His honesty pisses some people off, but he is not a prima donna and has technique and feeling like nobody's business. One of the few players I hold in regard in the league of EVH...One of the best there are out there..
Ritche knows what he's doin, his wife is drop dead georgeous and Blackmores night is awsome, allthough i think he is getting the itch to fire up the Marshalls he just wont settle for anything. since Cozy passed away it Affected Ritche. He'will return he is a guitar GOD1

he sounds more coherent and he was smiling a couple of times . Hope someday he and gillan cann be on talking terms. He need not go back to purple life is too short to hold grudges. Too late once someone is sick]
Ritchie looks and sounds good in this interview. Ditch the mustache, gotee and girl (OK she can watch from the wings) and pick up with the old bandmates and let it RIP! C'mon Ritchie, do at least one rock tour every 2 years.
ritchie can be an asshole effortlessly.

@assa123assa123 Actually he used a strat and a semi hollow in the early days. Look harder.

Candice Night is hot and Ritchie looks better than before too. It's strange, but he really looks younger than when he was in Purple.

Best commercial guitar player ever.
I wish he would get together with Jon Lord and do Mandrake Root and Wring That Neck one more time.

It's "Mountain" in fact... though it's from the late 60's, so i don't know how much it influenced on early Purple's sound
And through this vid I discovered Vanilla Fudge... what to say, one of the greatest and most underated bands from all time

and also about the thing at the headstock! xD
at 6:57..
and also the quote "to annoy people". x]]
