@pyrocyon Yes. I was about to say that. The Lewin montage explains the Coulomb force between electric charges (i.e., the force caused by an electric field), which has nothing to do with magnetism. At least, until you start playing with reference frames. But I highly doubt our clown-faced inquirer desired a reminiscent-of-special-relativity account of electricity-magnetism unification—and even if he did, the video doesn't provide it.
Tl;dr: The OP should post an annotation correcting his error.
Well, to be a counter-smartass to everyone who's saying that the song goes much "deeper" than the scientific explanation: I believe the line went "how do they work", not "why do they work". So yeah, _how_ magnets work can be explained in a very definitive way.
This is not an explanation of how magnets work. This is actually a description of the symptoms or effects of magnetism. It's like showing you some tracks in the dirt and referring to those tracks as the creature that made them.
Please refrain from ignorance if at all possible.
I've seriously lost respect for ICP for the lack of intelligence in this song. I really hope they weren't serious. Maybe if they wouldn't have dropped out of high school, they would know how magnets and rainbows work. People who claim science is fake blow my mind. If science is fake, then why do we have technology like computers? Computers are made of nothing but science. From the plastic and glass (chemistry) components to the mathematical algorithms that make programs work. It's ALL science!
People need to accept that magnetism is a mere product of set variables, and nothing more. This is the reason we cannot explain "why" magnetism "is". The question is wrong, not the answer.
Oh lol! Btw I'm sorry if I sounded pissed in first place, never had any anger inside during this conversation, just wanted to share my point of view. And also, from what I've heard, gravity still 100% unexplained, but electro-magnetism obtained pretty good theory lately, it wasn't disapproved so far, so I'm guessing I might be wrong after all.
@kosiak10851 That actually is why they work, since the magnetic force is just the electric force in a moving frame of reference. It's a consequence of special relativity, and is one of the many reasons why Einstein's results were so mindblowing. Chillax.
@thirtysilver Only that we can observe and predict, but not explain, so I think ICP tried to look like fools but accidentally got the point. And this video should be called "A brief observation on how electromagnetism behaves." Never mind anyway, I only tried to share a thought, nothing more.
@MyakaRu it does explained. it's the electro magnetic force around the atom...it will magnetize other metals and blah blah blah...damn I am lying...dont be piss off
Are people really defending ICP? You would think they wouldn't after ICP says "I dont want to talk to a scientist, yall mother fuckers lying and getting me pissed". That statement much just shows how idiotic these guys are.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It was a rhetorical question which was appreciating all the "magic" that we take for granted everyday. Sure, magnets have charges and protons and all that shit, but what the fuck really is a proton? And how/why/when/where was it made? Why does water, fire, or any of that really exist? Obviously there's a "scientific explanation" but the song goes much deeper than that. Hence why he doesn't want a scientist to tell him what he [most likely] already knows.
@PbDude2 He just said they're lying. He obviously doesn't know shit. And I highly doubt he is EVER going to find a better explanation than science can give him. He needs to go find his ass a unicorn or a leprechaun or some shit and maybe one of them can tell him. I don't understand how the fuck you can hear him ask how magnets work and believe he means...what exactly? That he wants a magical explanation? The way I see it: if you want you can believe science is magic as long as you get the point.
@PbDude2 Until you get to the part where he accuses the scientist of lying. If he [most likely] already knew that, he'd have no reason to make such an accusation.
@wdkhukefue Some atoms have a natural *magnetic field, north/south orientation. During manufacture ferric atoms in magnets are aligned uniformly north/south, combining their natural magnetic field. This is achieved by high current, low voltage electricity. Once aligned a coherent magnetic field is produced
*A magnetic field is a wave that transports electromagnetic radiation. In the case of a magnet, is curved back towards it's opposite pole.
@RoryAlt If you are going to make fun of ICP, at least try not to look like a dumbass doing so. Electromagnetic and Electrostatic force aren't the same thing. For one he is talking about protons and electrons which are pure positive and negative particles while there is no such thing (at least discovered yet) as a magnetic monopole. Maybe Shaggy 2 Dope's question should be pondered by the people making fun of him.
@thirtysilver please explain how magnets work, and I will share billions of dollars with you. I mean people can observe and predict, but there is no explanation so far. How interaction between 2 magnets performed? By what particles? Or by space bend? If we knew we could invent anti-gravity already. So think on your "idiots" statement once again.
@MyakaRu Magnetism is a complex and well-understood phenomenon. Moving electric charges create magnetic fields, as do particles with a certain intrinsic charge. A simple Google search provides a wealth of information. There is, however, much less data to confirm that magnets work through magic. Do some reading on this fascinating subject, and, if you still find more evidence for the magic hypothesis, then I have billions of dollars to share with you.
@thirtysilver Ok, will explain my question a bit: lets imagine 2 magnets, attracted to each other. What kind of particles are delivering energy of attraction between them? Got it? It is same problem as with gravity. Yes everybody knows that bigger mass -> stronger gravity, but HOW it is delivered from one body to another? What is connection between two interacting bodies made of?
@MyakaRu "What kind of particles are delivering energy of attraction between them?" Electrons.
Also...are we talking about gravity now, or are you attempting to use gravity as some kind of metaphor? You seem to be claiming that scientists do not know the ways in which magnetism works and to be using this assumption as the basis for your statement that...that what? That magnetism is a mystical property? Order your thoughts and then restate your premise.
@MyakaRu "What kind of particles are delivering energy of attraction between them?" Protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Also...are we talking about gravity now, or are you attempting to use gravity as some kind of metaphor? That magnetism is a mystical property? Order your thoughts and then restate your premise.
@MyakaRu "What kind of particles are delivering energy of attraction between them?" Protons, neutrons, and electrons.
"Got it?"
No. Since when are we talking about gravity? Are you using gravity as a metaphor for magnetism? You seem to be saying that no one knows how magnets work. Do you really believe that? Are you trying to say that you think magic is what makes them work? Organize your thoughts and restate your premise.
@thirtysilver I never said anything about magical explanation, not a single word, why you keep returning to it?
Will try one more time (I guess my English is not that good thou)
If one magnet is in range of filed of another magnet, is one magnet starts to emit tiny particles? I mean ok, protons, neutrons, and electrons, but HOW they actually attracted? Same problem in gravity theory, they trying to find graviton or use Einstein's explanation (about time/space bend), but failed so far.
@MyakaRu "why you keep returning to it? " Because I'm trying to ascertain your overall point. I think I see now that you're saying magnets work through as yet unexplained means, like gravity. "If one magnet is in range of filed of another magnet, is one magnet starts to emit tiny particles?" The particles already exist. They're attracted to one another based on their charges. Magnetism is an electrical phenomenon.
@thirtysilver Ok checking back my posts I see where I failed. 1. Scale. 2. Never should mentioned gravity. It only confused you more.
Here we go:
Imagine 1 electron and 1 proton. They attracted to each other. But how? No visible connection between them, no tiny particles forming field, no space bend, nothing. How energy from proton delivered to electron and in what form? What carries filed itself? Even smaller particles?
@MyakaRu Honestly, I don't have the answer to that question. There may well be scientists who know that. Let me pose my own question here: If we do not yet know the answer to that question, what does that imply to you?
@MyakaRu Also, you state that anti-gravity technology would have been invented by now if scientists really understood magnetism. Gravity and magnetism are not the same. I would ask you to explain the correlation you see between a full understanding of magnetism and the development of anti-gravity technology, but I have a sneaking suspicion that coherent explanations are not your forte.
err the ICP tards are talking about ferromagnetism which has nothing to do with electrostatic interaction. The retardedness of this video is pretty fucking ironic.
@lonelyjew I realize he's explaining electrostatics but couldn't find a similar video where a lecture explained magnetism. They both create magnetic fields through spinning electrons and they both fall under electromagnetism.
The "song" doesn't specify what "magnets" he's talking about, but in the music video he's surrounded by electrical charges suggesting electrostatic if anything.
@hardenedthefuckup Funnily enough he does and it was going to be in the video but it didn't really work with the "rap" "fucking rainbows after it rains" didn't work that well with the lecture playing after it.
I'm sure this has been said already, but electrostatic interactions are a completely different (and simpler) beast than magnetism.
