it was different there was a rebellion in Egypt anf they would lose Egypt they were afraid to lose the empire en when they the largest amount of troops was in Egypt the barbarians attacked the northern front.

it's because the barbarians got strategic like the romans. and the barbarians are stronger, fiercer, better fighters.

I think you hit it right on the nail, I also think the "barbarians" individual bravery won over the Romans tactical organization.

Nope, overwhelming numbers and deep problems within the empire itself. There are plenty good books on the subject.

it was both, you were right, it was entire tribes who were attacking, deep problems, advancements of the tribes, and so forth.

Not really, the barbarian still got their asses handed to them from time to time due to roman strategy. They were individually stronger and fiercer but the romans could easily best them in formation,like in the Battle of Mediolanum in 259 and the Battle of Naissus in 268. if that wasnt the case the the empire would have fallen a lot sooner.

Another good point. The tecnological gap between confroting armies was smaller at this point.

of course the below info i gave u i would only ever use if somehow u got in a debt of over 10000 and were being attacked fomr everywhere... without a strong empire the other empires will attack you becuz u will be weak and vunerable

set your financial matters to automatic which makes the computer collect money for u....

if that doesnt work attack as many castles as possible to get money.

well i play on barbarian invasion but i have some problems and if someone knows can help me alaways my citys is -1000 or -500 and some times -2000 and -4000 and i cant colect maney i dont know why please post something if can help me

Try to keep your population as small as possible. Don;t recrut a lot of soldiers- just the amount you really need. Sack settlements. Use peasants to maintain the public order =)

You're right! But I'm playing defensively now (strengthening my borders, building walls, recruiting infantry to defend cities) because I want to survive the attack of the hordes. Cavalry is nearly useless when besieged. You can not defend the walls using them and when the enemy is trough my gate I prefer to defend it with some spears in shieldwall. I am however using the Roman mercenaries and my general bodyguards unit.

Also- don't forget that most of my army consist of spears which are great for fighting cav.

I guess you're asking about my kingdom ;) Well I took nearly all of France and Scotland ;) the Hords don't invade me yet- they are actually fighting against each other. I have some financial problems but I will probably solve them when the UK is mine xD

The strength of the Saxons lies in their infantry. Their cavalry just basically sucks ^^'

Mounted nobles are ok but their upkeep is quite high ;)
