Start out with adjusting the valves. at first i thought it was a wrist pin(pin that connects rod to piston head) but when you got close it sounds more like vavles. These old tractors dont have hydraulic lifters. Back in the day lifters were called tappits cause they made a tapping noise. I Think yers have gone past the slight tapping stage.
Definitely too worn big end on one of the connecting rods,at idle there isnt enough oil pressure to fill the gap with oil,so it starts knocking. Likewise under load,the pressure from the connecting rod becomes too high,and the oil film breaks down.A thicker oil may do the trick. Ive heard of someone that solved the problem by using an oil specific for old Harleys.
