"Florida is a weird state-for 1 they allowed everyone to carry guns and they complained when all the killings increased-in certian states you can't even carry a gun without just cause-this isn't the wild west-Flordia needs to get those guns of the streets instead of making them easy to get-if you have to walk around with a gun then maybe you should move into a different neighborhood or better then that a different city
Welfare is not free. When you accept it you are agreeing to certain responsibilities. The main one is the job of using the funds to take care of yourself and your children. I would bet they even sign something specifying this. IMO that falls well within the Supreme Court's ruling in regards to drug tests. If you want to argue that being on welfare is not a job then fine, the Supreme Court's ruling doesn't apply at all then. As for paying for the test.. it's $35 and they get it back if they pass.
I love how these rich liberals with their big houses pretend to give a shit about the poor. If you sold your house, you could help pay for someone else to get food or help build 3 houses. It's all about power with these people and big government. Conservatives just want small government, so that if you work hard, you keep the fruits of your labor.
"Rich white people take drugs" Yeah, you're right. They also pay for them with the money they earn. Welfare people dont. It's not about protecting rich white people. It's about protecting tax payer money from being spent on drugs. If liberals had their way, working hard in this country would only get you as far as poor drug addicts. The American Dream is still alive people. But you have to work for it. No ones gonna hand it to you.
Uhmm, let me get this straight, it's okay to take away the welfare recepients and other undisirables constitutional rights away as long as they leave you alone? And clearly you are such an asset to society that the goverment would immediately recognise your wonderfulness and leave your rights alone? Don't be a fool first they come for them ,then they come for you.
I love how everyone so liberally throws the Constitution or the Fourth Amendment to justify their abusive behavior.
Remember the constitution was made by our founding fathers, waaaayyyyyyyy before they realized how fat lazy and exploitatious Americans can be, especially when one speaks of regulating the services and monies they get........................ FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My founding fathers are turning in their graves !!!!
@marcgalo81 You realize, don't you, that in the founding father's time, ALL drugs were legal. There was no constitutional or legal argument otherwise. They believed that a person had the right to ingest or consume whatever they wished. It was only less than one hundred years ago that this changed.
@ ThePelicans44 ummm.... why would you test people for going to the DMV??? if youre going to make an argument make sure its valid, not baseless and nonsensical ...the fact is if you receive benefits from the American taxpayer, it is NOT a BAD idea to make sure the help is going to those who need it because uncontrollable circumstances rather than because its free and available.
@leojdroffaws3 No you do not have to take a drug test to be employed. The applicants have a choice to agree to getting one or carry thier ass somewhere else.
@splicedenergy depeends on where you work, try getting a state job without a drug test not one that i know of . but i agree a choice get tested or get lost . nothing wrong with that
Thank you FLORIDA and KENTUCKY!! Florida and Kentucky are the first states that will require drug-testing when applying for welfare. Some people are crying this is "un-constitutional". How is this un-constitutional? It's OK to drug-test people who work for their money, but not those who don't?
@Malarkey31 we never fucking said it was constitutional to do that either!!! THEY DID! no one cares about what us "POTHEADS" have to say or how we feel about it. do i think everyone who can, should work? yes. do i think we should drug test for it? NO. do i think we can deal with people having drug problems by simply firing them, just as we do any other? YES. do i think everyone has the right to smoke marijuana and feel good? YOU FUCKING BET. fuck the gov, and RICH PEOPLE, makes me sick
seems like Florida loves its wars, espescially the genocide on God's green hemp trees and the farmer ~spending TRILLIONS!!! no wonder the earth has turned on her! sinking a little more each day into the polluted oil spill seas ~ whereas planting an acre would give you 500 gallons of clean fuel a season ~ the insane rule and destroy freedom and liberty these days. . .they'll have all of you pissing for your money!!
I live in South Florida and beleive me, Rick Scott is a real ass hole. He want's to have the pain control to be the same as "India". In india the Government punishes the doctors for helping people with their pain control. Sometimes we make a mistake when we vote. This time we we made a BIG mistake. Let't keep him in office so that he builds a case against himself, and then we can send him to jail for, hopefully the rest of his life. Scotts approval rate is 29%, the worst in the entire country.
OK, fine there is a conflict of interest, but so what, the end result is good. We have less drug users abusing the system. If a jackass gets some benefits from a good idea that also produces good results, well so be it.
How about you pretend to be a reporter and just report the news... we don't need your staged outrage or sarcasm. What did they teach you in journalism school??? And if you say "are you ready for this" one more time someone is going to create a drinking game in your honor.
they charge them for the test initially and if they pass they reimburse them the price of the drug test. If you fail, sorry about you. Get your facts straight MSNBC
what about the fuks that spend there checks on ciggs or alcohol?it takes 48 hours to get meth crack an so on out of your system.yet pot takes alot longer an they wouldnt have to worry about people spending there money on that if we could just grow are own.
This isn't going to help welfare recipients who use drugs one bit. What it will do is increase the crime rate in Florida. When they can't get their fix because Big Brother took away the money, they'll find some other way to fund their drug habits. If he really wanted to help these people, he'd also increase drug rehab programs, education and job training for these people. But he's just lining his own pockets. Hope he's a one-term governor.
@xander7ful drugs are not the issue. why should i care who gets high and who doesnt. it's not like the whole check goes to weed or a few crack bags. i am pretty sure most of it goes to food they do buy more food than drugs at the end of the day. unless your a crack junkie which isnt really the generation thats 35 years and younger. how can one live a free life when you have rules like this. there goes big brother pitting us against one another again.
@xander7ful actually the idea is that the drug users will move to another state after being denied welfare in Florida so in a sense cleaning up the state.
@xander7ful Actually, Big Brother didn't "Take away" their money, he just stop giving away OUR money to people who abuse the system. Remember, money for welfare don't come from a money tree, it comes from the pockets of hard working Americans. As one of them, I think it's good to know less people who WANT my tax money for their habit will be getting it, and only the one who NEED it will get it. So what if one jackass makes a profit from this good idea.
@Tommy9834 oh shut the fuck up dude... yeah, i work hard too. who in the fuck cares!? your just a little pansy trying to stick up for the man instead of sticking it to him. people like you should go jump off a cliff. life would be a lot better without ya.
@renzokata Yea I'm sticking up for "The Man" as in the "Working Man". You know, people who work for their money, and by that, I don't mean people on Wall Street, but your everyday middle/working class man/woman. I may not like the individuals running the government, but the money the government hands out, is not their money, but the tax payer's, and I rather it not go to waste on a freeloading drug users, and by that, I'm not saying all welfare recipients are drug users.
@Tommy9834 and so what the fuck? i work too. im a fitness instructor. and people on wall street never seen a working day in thier lives and the money they take from us is very profound when it comes to chump change of our tax dollars our gov spends on welfare. you have no idea man.
@renzokata Well excuse us for not making that good money that you do. Some have more expenses then you BTW.
"Money don't grow on trees, we got bills to pay, we mouths to feed, and ain't nothing in this world for free."
So the rest of us would love it if our government, would for once, do something to lower their wasteful spending- OH WAIT, they did, with this act, but we now have people like you who I guess LOVE IT when government throw money away like that. Well your in the minority BTW.
@Tommy9834 i would too, maybe not give a company a 112 billion dollar bailout, but oh aig got one, no questions asked, no drug tests for them. DRUG TESTS ARE A VIOLATION OF OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, they are kinda like stoning people to death but in a nicer way, soon we will do away with the GREEDY, EVIL LITTLE FUCKING TRICK. dude our government is spending so much money right now, handing so much to halibburton you wouldn't FUCKING BELIEVE.
@renzokata No questions asked my ass. When those bailout happened, me, along with the rest of the tax payers raised hell in about every open forum. But just cause those idiots made a stupid decision, don't mean the next one is automatically condemned, especially when the facts are on its side.
Now find me a court decision, a precedent, or a statue, that says administering drug test for welfare is unconstitutional before saying nonsense like that. Take money and wasting, that's unconstitutional
@Tommy9834 ''Now find me a court decision, a precedent, or a statue, that says administering drug test for welfare is unconstitutional before saying nonsense like that''
@jfsfrnd LOL how long did you spend on google for that. Too bad you didn't read the whole thing again. I posted a link (in a way that youtube allows it) on another video for you, but let me point out the main ruling for you.
It was a 6-6 tie, therefor, it upheld the lower court's decision, which was made in 2002, which said drug testing welfare recipients is legal. It's gonna go up to the supreme court eventually, and they might change that ruling, but till then, it's legal. Sorry try again.
1- On April 9, 2003, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit struck down a law that requires drug testing of Michigan welfare recipients. In October 2002, a three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit upheld the program, agreeing with WLF that the drug testing did not violate the Fourth Amendment's prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures.
2 - But the Sixth Circuit's decision to rehear the case en banc in front of all 12 of its judges had the effect of vacating that earlier panel decision.
@Tommy9834 New Florida Law Requires Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients
July 06, 2011 01:04 PM
The ACLU filed their suit against Governor Scott on July 1st. They are using a similar law overturned in Michigan as precedent to prove the Florida law is unconstitutional.
....The ACLU sued on behalf of all Michigan welfare recipients, and U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts issued a restraining order to stop the testing, saying it likely violated the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable search and seizure.
2 - A three-judge panel of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Roberts' decision in October, saying the program was based on a legitimate need to protect the children of recipients and the public. But on Wednesday, the full court changed course and affirmed Roberts' ruling.
When this guy is all done the state of Florida will be nice and clean cause all the losers will have to live in Mexico!! Ha ha ha ha ha.. I think it looks good on all of you dope addicts! Good luck in the future you dumbasses!
Screw probable cause!!!! Go get a job a stop getting the government to pay for your loser habits! Stupid fool! Society is starting to ditch dodos like you!
@vinnys025 Where's the probable cause for the unlawful search and seizure of the bodily fluids of the men and women of the armed services? I mean, both servicemen and welfare recipients both get money and benefits from the government, which means, they get money from the tax payer. The only difference is that one gives us an honorable service, and the other does not, and one is taught the virtue of honor and discipline, and the other is not, but guess who we drug test and who we don't?
many of your marvellous American people have been cheated by bad persons in Lauderdale by the Sea - Miami , which says to be doctors but they are not. They even tell lies at the town hall meeting. They are cheating sick and disabled children from the entire world. Have a look at my blog MARILISARIZZETTO.blogspot.com where I have started to explain this American big shame against disabled kids! It's horrible. Help me in spreading this blog of mine We must stop them
I didn't think people in my state would elect a felon who milked the federal government for $1.8 Billion goddamned dollars. yes they're stupid, scummy people, they elected Jeb Bush, but I never thought these assholes would actually elect Rick Scott. so far he's pushed racist laws to starve people on welfare, passed legislation to aid pill mills, and served the needs of the criminal ring of Miami Dade county, currently the medicare fraud capital of the entire country.
So it's ok for parents to blow what little money they have on drugs instead of using it to buy clothes or shoes for their children, or better yet save up the money their not spending on dope and get a better home in a nicer community. But no, people like you who encourage 'protection of privacy' by waiving the Constitution around whenever someone actually stands up and takes our government a step in the right direction would rather have all the druggies suckin up the welfare funding. Nice!
BTW...THE GUY WON A MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry there is no right and wrong to your argument you're just wrong.
these benefits were implemented for the welfare of those who cannot not those who will not...
taking money from the government when you are just going to misuse it is WRONG!
and IF I WERE on welfare , Id be ecstatic that they were finally cracking down on ppl like that because it means that ultimately the help is going to those in need
That's not a problem in my argument....ITS THE REASON WHY every one should be tested.
I get drug tested when I apply for any reputable company Ive ever had the pleasure of working for, and for your information Mr./miss. jfsfrnd I would gladly do it every month if I had to, you know why??? because I am a contributing member of my community. that's why. and if any of these ppl who arn't drug addicts truly want to get off of "the system" they should have no problem with complying either
while we're at it, let's refuse help for those that waste my tax dollars on smoking, which kills way more people than the supposed drugs. And lets test everyone for alcohol every time they get behind a wheel. Lets make every person take a parenting course that bears raises or otherwise is entrusted with children in their care. Where does the line get drawn?
Defend the constitution from all threats both foreign and domestic. The fourth amendment to the constitution says that this is illegal. It has been ruled on by the supreme court. If you feel that this should be legal then logic dictates you do not agree with the fourth amendment, therefore you would support that it should be mandatory for all Americans to submit to monthly drug tests by the federal government at the persons expense..... This is horrible, what happened to the land of the free?
and to those who say..."they're on welfare... they dont have the money for a drugtest...thats why they need the money!!!"
I dont lack of funds being a problem for them when it comes to supplying their smoke or drinking habits...
or Lottert for that matter like that dude who won the lottery (on welfare mind you) and the ultimate slap in the face is he STILL QUALIFIES for welfare!!!
@TheDukeljk really? And where do you get your information from? Have you ever been on welfare? $600 for a family of 3. YOU try paying rent, much less buy drugs on that amount.
@jfsfrnd: Collecting other people's money isn't a Consititutional right. You must qualify for the priveledge. One of the qualifications is that you can't take other peoples money and buy yourself herion.
@jfsfrnd: My evidence to the fact that nowhere in the Constitution does it say people have the right to collect welfare is the fact that I have read the Constitution and understand it. If you disagree feel free to cite any article, section or line of the Constitution that says collecting welfare is an Americans Constitutional right. Welafre is a priveledge. If it wasn't any America could collect it, including billionaires. Collecting welfare is a privledge to qualify Americans.Go head & cite it
@tg101393 Goldberg v Kelly made it an entitlement, but years after, Congress, with their Welfare Reform Program turned it into a block grant and sent it to the states. It is no longer an entitlement. Billionaires can't collect it because it has eligiblity standards like income, and resource levels. This is what the Republicans want to do with all the entitlements, esp. Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.
@jfsfrnd: Exactly. As you say, how welfare works now it's not an entitlement. You must also meet certian requirements to collect welafre, again like you said. One of the requirements is that you must be using the money for the intended purposes. Drug use is not one of the acceptable purposes.
@marcgalo1 The reason that guy still qualifies for welfare is the welfare laws. He bought a house and car which makes him still qualify. And he only receives 5000 per year from the money left over. BTW, I don't agree with what he did. If I were on welfare I would have made sure that the money I received was enough to live on and not be on welfare even if it was legal to do so. Wouldn't you want to be completely off the system if you were stuck in it and won the lottery? He's an idiot.
I knew this guy was a shill. Mr young turk DISGRACE TO THE NAME, is he really on msnbc? or is this just a youtube video being played lol dont thinkso.
everyone crying bout this dude, shoulda gotten on the voting lines rather than the welfare lines and now it wouldnt be an issue... stop crying over something that is ultimately beneficial; to the hard working American !!!
#2. Only marijuana will last in your system more than a week, most hard drugs will not show up in your system after just a few days. Given that, if you're testing on a 3 month time-frame then you're not really going to catch anyone besides marijuana smokers. If you're so worried about your mailman smoking a little pot, then so be it, but I hardly am.

thats why i hate AMERICA !!! BULLSHIT DOUBLE STANDARDS, LIES, ANGEL INFRONT OF YOU BUT A DEVIL IN DISGUISE, THEY CANT GET THEIR LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE SO HOW CAN WE, YALLA AFGHANISTAN !!!! AFGHANISTAN !!!! CANT WAIT TILL THESE FUCKERS LEAVE COWARDS USING AIRPLANE SUPPORT, ONLY WAY TO WIN, WERE HERE BEFORE YOU ,AND WE WILL BE HERE AFTER YOU. YOU CANT WIN.
LIberals? Was that a joke, that is a statist/socialist policy if there ever was such a thing. This reminds me of when Dick Morris said on Peter Schiff's radio show that "we should drug test every single high school student and anyone trying to receive a student loan." That is not what this country is suppose to be....
Drug testing as a condition of employment is fascist behavior, and I will never take one. It's intrusive and humiliating. Not a good way to start off a relationship. America is no longer a democracy, it's a corporatocracy. Fuck republican politicians and pundents.
i live in tampa. i work in the private sector. i took a drug test to get my job. and i am under the threat of COMPLETELY random drug tests. i dont see why the government employess that do half the work i do and get twice the pay should not be forced to go through the same practices to have their job on the back of my tax dollars. maybe this will help with the bloated government lay offs. if its done completeley random. but i will bet the unions will cry about this too
@mrwhatever213 i dont believe anyone should be drug tested. but if they do it to the private sector, it should be done to the public sector which are getting their paycheck by stealing our money
The root of every evil?...Is the LOVE of money....GREED......this is an evil greedy selfish man....made himself rich off of sick people??....ugh...please help us Lord to be better people, and make those who use and abuse others to be brought down and made known....
furthermore, its heartbreaking to see that even though these "poloticians" have a BIPARTISAN problem with what should be called BLATANT corruption (but some how that just does not seem like the best description of what their doing!)the republicans are particularly agregiously using their access to power to their own ends. face it , these people are not being scrutinized by the people who should be making that their mission.
the naivte of these political pundits is exceeded only by the apathy or ignorance of their viewership.when will the conventional wisdom evolve into what is generally accepted by even the most modestly savvy news "hounds" that the poloticians are blantantly using their personal resources to gain power and exploiting their positions while the poor, the unemployed and the disadvantaged are relegated to 2nd class citizenship slowly .. as time goes on and no one addresses the problem.
I find it funny how MSNBC, and many people, bitch and moan about the corruption in government. Then they go on and bash honest men like Ron Paul when he runs for President. Ron Paul GAVE BACK $140,000 this quarter to the treasury. Instead of supporting guys like him, we just vote in these popular crooks, and then act surprised when they F**K US!!
@MyRiseToHonor I HAVE THE ANSWER! I think USA needs a few Generals to start a coup AND to use (when in session) Daisy Cutters on Bohemian Grove The G20 CFR Trilateral Commission The UN Big Bank/Oil CEOs Monsanto KBR Rockefellers Rothchilds Bilderbergs etc. Long list! Do you think that would put a dent in the NWO Agenda? I like the idea of tossing them from choppers over 911 and we applaud as they splat!. More Enjoyable! make it PAY PER VIEW we'd make billions! Close ups as they fall!
Not only are there tons of prescription drugs, there are so many that half the people driving on Florida roads are legally stoned. Watch it if you're driving.
i went to florida a while back and there is more prescription opiates than weed and cocaine and any other drug combined...everyone over there sells them!
is that what america calls an newsanchor? this guy is talking and shouting around like an idiot. how am i supposed to believe anything this fat idiot says?
Another spin on the real facts and BS need to strip needed medications from the people.
Simply research why Florida has such a prescription increase (not problem), compared to the other states.
Florida has the highest percentage of elderly citizens (about 23%) in the country and has the 2nd largest numbers of elderly (1.3 mil). Jumping on the band wagon about how terrible prescription pain medication is and how many people it are hurting is simply exaggerated spin BS by Main Stream Media!
@allgovsarecriminal Cause they are brainwashed PUSSIES like most of our societies. In the old day these criminal traitors would be hung but now after they do their damage we pay them a pension the rest of their evil lives.
The system is fucked and the only way to fix it is with a major revolution. If not then expect worse to come.
@allgovsarecriminal If you're talking about us civilians taking up arms against the government, it's very simple. For me to stand up to the government with a firearm I would literally need every single other civilian backing me up, imo that will probably never happen in the u.s
We ought to respect Alan Grayson for standing up to Rush Limbaugh the way he stood up to Ben Bernanke in Congress.
Think about it...Rush Limbaugh has his dream job and had to take pills for entertainment? He ran afoul of oppressive money laundering laws but supports them anyway? He wants to put blacks in jail for doing what he did?
@euro944t Right...Grayson is not perfect. I often wonder what I would do if I were a Jew. We should all put ourselves in the shoes of our opponent or competitor. I hate to say "enemy" when I talk about the Israel first believers. So...if I were a Jew I might say "Hey...you Gentiles support Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan...why can't we Jews get ours from Uncle Schmuck?" THAT is why I support Ron Paul. He does not single out Israel. He wants to be done with ALL of our useless empire.
Rand Paul called to cut off Egypt and Israhell's funding. That should get Mossad's attention, Fed Reserve Roth Zionists and The Queen, & Rockefeller cabal are NOT RP fans.
OMG! how does this guy get some of the most (what shouldnt be) mind blowing stories across N.America?!?! But holy shit!!!! how do these people get away w/ this?
@SuperNick419 You might be surprised at what goes on in Florida. There is so much corruption that occasionally action is taken against it when it's spotted naked in the windows of nice hotels.
The most hated governor in US history, must be in Florida! PS, the FL constitution DOES NOT allow impeaching him! Laughable! I would give anything to have the Washington's Governor Gregoire! Too much to handle!
nearly everyone on wall street does cocaine, cocaine stimulates the same part of the brain as money, so who does more damage to society, a school janitor smoking weed, or a stock broker snorting coke

seems like Florida loves its wars, espescially the genocide on God's green hemp trees and the farmer ~spending TRILLIONS!!! no wonder the earth has turned on her! sinking a little more each day into the polluted oil spill seas ~ whereas planting an acre would give you 500 gallons of clean fuel a season ~ the insane rule and destroy freedom and liberty these days. . .they'll have all of you pissing for your money!!

Hope he's a one-term governor.
xander7ful 7 months ago
@xander7ful drugs are not the issue. why should i care who gets high and who doesnt. it's not like the whole check goes to weed or a few crack bags. i am pretty sure most of it goes to food they do buy more food than drugs at the end of the day. unless your a crack junkie which isnt really the generation thats 35 years and younger. how can one live a free life when you have rules like this. there goes big brother pitting us against one another again.
PoliticallyEndcorrec 7 months ago
@xander7ful actually the idea is that the drug users will move to another state after being denied welfare in Florida so in a sense cleaning up the state.
nephilymbass1 7 months ago
@xander7ful Actually, Big Brother didn't "Take away" their money, he just stop giving away OUR money to people who abuse the system. Remember, money for welfare don't come from a money tree, it comes from the pockets of hard working Americans. As one of them, I think it's good to know less people who WANT my tax money for their habit will be getting it, and only the one who NEED it will get it. So what if one jackass makes a profit from this good idea.

@Tommy9834 oh shut the fuck up dude... yeah, i work hard too. who in the fuck cares!? your just a little pansy trying to stick up for the man instead of sticking it to him. people like you should go jump off a cliff. life would be a lot better without ya.
renzokata 6 months ago
@renzokata Yea I'm sticking up for "The Man" as in the "Working Man". You know, people who work for their money, and by that, I don't mean people on Wall Street, but your everyday middle/working class man/woman. I may not like the individuals running the government, but the money the government hands out, is not their money, but the tax payer's, and I rather it not go to waste on a freeloading drug users, and by that, I'm not saying all welfare recipients are drug users.
Tommy9834 6 months ago
@Tommy9834 and so what the fuck? i work too. im a fitness instructor. and people on wall street never seen a working day in thier lives and the money they take from us is very profound when it comes to chump change of our tax dollars our gov spends on welfare. you have no idea man.
renzokata 6 months ago
@renzokata Well excuse us for not making that good money that you do. Some have more expenses then you BTW.
"Money don't grow on trees, we got bills to pay, we mouths to feed, and ain't nothing in this world for free."
So the rest of us would love it if our government, would for once, do something to lower their wasteful spending- OH WAIT, they did, with this act, but we now have people like you who I guess LOVE IT when government throw money away like that. Well your in the minority BTW.
Tommy9834 6 months ago
@Tommy9834 i would too, maybe not give a company a 112 billion dollar bailout, but oh aig got one, no questions asked, no drug tests for them. DRUG TESTS ARE A VIOLATION OF OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, they are kinda like stoning people to death but in a nicer way, soon we will do away with the GREEDY, EVIL LITTLE FUCKING TRICK. dude our government is spending so much money right now, handing so much to halibburton you wouldn't FUCKING BELIEVE.
renzokata 6 months ago
@renzokata No questions asked my ass. When those bailout happened, me, along with the rest of the tax payers raised hell in about every open forum. But just cause those idiots made a stupid decision, don't mean the next one is automatically condemned, especially when the facts are on its side.

jfsfrnd 6 months ago
@jfsfrnd LOL how long did you spend on google for that. Too bad you didn't read the whole thing again. I posted a link (in a way that youtube allows it) on another video for you, but let me point out the main ruling for you.
It was a 6-6 tie, therefor, it upheld the lower court's decision, which was made in 2002, which said drug testing welfare recipients is legal. It's gonna go up to the supreme court eventually, and they might change that ruling, but till then, it's legal. Sorry try again.
Tommy9834 6 months ago
1- On April 9, 2003, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit struck down a law that requires drug testing of Michigan welfare recipients. In October 2002, a three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit upheld the program, agreeing with WLF that the drug testing did not violate the Fourth Amendment's prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures.
jfsfrnd 6 months ago
2 - But the Sixth Circuit's decision to rehear the case en banc in front of all 12 of its judges had the effect of vacating that earlier panel decision.

@Tommy9834 New Florida Law Requires Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients
July 06, 2011 01:04 PM
The ACLU filed their suit against Governor Scott on July 1st. They are using a similar law overturned in Michigan as precedent to prove the Florida law is unconstitutional.
Note the date of the article. Good try.

1 - Welfare Drug-Testing Law Struck Down
By Jeralyn, Section Court Decisions
Posted on Thu Apr 10, 2003 at 07:39:10 PM EST
....The ACLU sued on behalf of all Michigan welfare recipients, and U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts issued a restraining order to stop the testing, saying it likely violated the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable search and seizure.
jfsfrnd 6 months ago
2 - A three-judge panel of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Roberts' decision in October, saying the program was based on a legitimate need to protect the children of recipients and the public. But on Wednesday, the full court changed course and affirmed Roberts' ruling.

I mean, both servicemen and welfare recipients both get money and benefits from the government, which means, they get money from the tax payer. Nice!

taking money from the government when you are just going to misuse it is WRONG!
and IF I WERE on welfare , Id be ecstatic that they were finally cracking down on ppl like that because it means that ultimately the help is going to those in need
marcgalo1 8 months ago
@ jfsfrnd
That's not a problem in my argument....ITS THE REASON WHY every one should be tested.
I get drug tested when I apply for any reputable company Ive ever had the pleasure of working for, and for your information Mr./miss. jfsfrnd I would gladly do it every month if I had to, you know why??? because I am a contributing member of my community. that's why. and if any of these ppl who arn't drug addicts truly want to get off of "the system" they should have no problem with complying either
marcgalo1 8 months ago
while we're at it, let's refuse help for those that waste my tax dollars on smoking, which kills way more people than the supposed drugs.

@jfsfrnd: My evidence to the fact that nowhere in the Constitution does it say people have the right to collect welfare is the fact that I have read the Constitution and understand it. If you disagree feel free to cite any article, section or line of the Constitution that says collecting welfare is an Americans Constitutional right. Welafre is a priveledge. If it wasn't any America could collect it, including billionaires. Collecting welfare is a privledge to qualify Americans.Go head & cite it
tg101393 3 months ago
@tg101393 Goldberg v Kelly made it an entitlement, but years after, Congress, with their Welfare Reform Program turned it into a block grant and sent it to the states. It is no longer an entitlement. Billionaires can't collect it because it has eligiblity standards like income, and resource levels. This is what the Republicans want to do with all the entitlements, esp. Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.
jfsfrnd 3 months ago
@jfsfrnd: Exactly. As you say, how welfare works now it's not an entitlement. You must also meet certian requirements to collect welafre, again like you said. One of the requirements is that you must be using the money for the intended purposes. Drug use is not one of the acceptable purposes.
tg101393 3 months ago
@tg101393 Not in Florida. A judge halted the drug testing based on its unconstitutionality.

How about 24 hour surveillance on all elected representatives in this brave, new world? That way we'd see what they were really up to.
Or at least they'd have to stimulate the economy by employing digital video production artists to recreate the surveillance video.
