So Gemuetlich!! The use of Serious Music themes for pop use is indeed not new. This was done quite a bit from the time when recorded music was first marketed to today. In the States to avoid ASCAP and BMI copyright infringement as the Common Practice Period Music is considered "Public Domain" and the Copyright Law time frame for music royalties has expired. How would one pay a monetary royalty to a deceased composer anyway?

Als Paul Whiteman 1926 Deutschland besuchte "vertonte" er auch in Hot Dance Manier auf Konzerten Stücke der europäischen Klassik. Eigentlich als entgegenkommen dem Puplikum gegenüber gedacht, erntete er heftige Kritik - es wurde schlicht als Sakrileg empfunden!
