  • This by far the most fantastic paradigm shift in education that I have seen.

By commoditizing basic core education and adding in the ability to create a self contained mobile platform then all people on the planet will benefit.

Putting both khanacadamy and Wikipedia both in one single "box" and sending that box around the world, this will remove many hurdles in education which is one of the primary causes of inequality around the world.

  • the master

  • It just dawned on me, we won't have to pay large sums of money for the education of the next generation.

  • Sal is such a great communicator. good man, a great inspiration for all!!

  • Khan makes it fun to learn

  • If Sal was teaching every kid in America our educational system wouldn't have any problems!

  • GO KHAN ACADEMY!!! FINALS WEEK IS COMING!!

  • hes asian...

    WHAT A SURPRISE!

  • ehm komme aus münchen

  • O método é mais antigo que andar para a frente. O expositor fica muito na frente da tela.

  • The woman laughing is very annoying. The camera is very close to her vocal chords, so everytime she agrees or laughs, it just hits you over the head.

  • The real time monitoring on learning is fabulous, here, that Sal illustrates. It used to be said after your schooling is over ur education begins; yet, here is real education even after the yrs. of schooling are over - schooling that was definitely OLD school and outdated vs this so much more precise & concise!

  • did i really make it through this whole 1 hour 23 minutes 18 seconds?

I've never been able to do that

  • ha cute ending considering i watched the ted video first.

  • that's kind of pretentious to suggest that only MIT graduates can read

  • khan you rock my world with this not for profit stuff. I do want every one to live without money. Please check this "pay it forward " concept site justfortheloveofit . or google The Freeconomy Community for the site ,and i wish all your followers join actively in this moneyless living . Salman khan the bollywood actor got 3.2 million hits on facebook. you should get more than that but you got just 104. come all followers like him.

  • I wish someone would do video's on English and literature too, I want to do good on both english and math on the SATs because that is two major subjects they test on.

  • does she laugh the whole time...

  • I have always been wanting to be good at numbers but couldnt get through it.. now after getting into khans academy I believe it is going to work now.

  • Thank you Sal. I have never met you but you have done more for me than many people. Because of you I am 12 years old and a freshman in highschool. You have made my life much better. I have seen every video [almost]and you are getting through to me more tan any teacher. Thank You Sal, You are my role model.

  • I have been forwarding links to his site to my friends on facebook, and asking them to pass along to any students in their lives. Great thing to do. Spread the ability to learn, change the world!

  • Jack of all trades and master of none?

  • @vjpillay You must have an interesting point of view about a well and round educated student...

  • @vjpillay He has 2 master's degrees. Next!

  • I just did the first four or five exercise modules, mostly to get a feel for it. It was basic arithmetic, but I was surprised by how the "game" aspect (getting badges, earning points and such), made it so fun. I actually got excited. I can't wait to learn something from Sal that I don't know yet.

  • whoever the girl is that's filming this has the cutest laugh/voice.

  • imagine thenewboston and khanacademy in a partnership

  • Thank you so much for filming this lecture!!! It is very personable and informative. Khan academy pwns my college...

  • hahahahaha "So im like, "I'm gonna put a database behind this thing.""

    *laughs*

"So I put a database behind it"

    HAHAHA sal you are awesome

  • Sal on DS? Now there's the 3DS...Sal and differentiation, IN 3D!

  • You are my hero!!!

  • dude, what happen if you die? accident happen... is the school going to stall? I am not seeing anybody that going to replace you..

  • I love this.....

  • Salman, I can say this with truth in my voice. You are one the brightest humanbeings I ever had honor see before. Way you grasp math an way you can teach it to others. Is amazing. You have true gift with math, an what makes this even better is your sharing your gift with others. You have honestly taught me so much about math. Things I forgot an never knew before is now growing inside my mind.LOL Im so thankful for finding your youtube channel. You are a true icon of teaching others about math

  • @ChanceMyHeart Check out Carl Sagan if you like Sal:)

  • Hey Salman! You are famous even in Brazil!!! I just heard about you on the radio!!! Congrats!! Wish I could have a teacher like you when I was kid! Take care!!!

  • SaL I Love U Soooooooooo much.... U r my only teacher...

  • He's brilliant and amazing!

  • I feel great watching this whole video from 2:30 - 4:00 am =]

  • Good joke at 1:20:00. Check it out.

  • @doctorcheriwatts lol agreed....or gradutes who or job less!

  • amazing!

  • Anti-Grade. An interesting concept, although I always believed in it. I was a B student in school and C in university. As soon as I hit professional college, I was straight A+. You know why? Simply because those courses were "Self-Paced". You hear a cassette and read a book with half page paragraphs followed by questions. At 54, I am learning Calculus simply because Khan's videos are 10 minutes and I can rewind.

  • @farooqihassan I always believed the grade reflects the teacher more than the student. I started to read and write at age 2, wrote my first poem at age 4, had lots of children's books and loved reading.

After 3 years of school (age 7) my teachers were telling my parents that I had a 'reading comprehension problem'. Their "tests" had said so. And instead of telling the teachers they were idiots, my parents were embarrassed and disappointed in me. For 10 years I felt stupid and hated reading.

  • @kozychik You are absolutely correct. In elementary school, my son was diagnosed with learning disability and put in special ed. He got Cs and Ds and was a year behind for most subjects. Then we had to move and the next school did not have funds for special ed and he had to be put in regular class. There he got Bs and Cs. They skipped him a grade and he started getting A's and B's. They put him in advance group and he became an honor student. He aced AMC-8 and was identified as gifted!

  • @farooqihassan Oh, thank goodnes! I don't hear enough stories with happy endings. Thank you for sharing that. Never let children think anything is wrong with them. Always emphasize their strengths and interests.

Show them new ways of learning and a whole world of possibility will open up for them! I hope your son is confidently persuing anything and everything he wants to do, learn or be!

  • @kozychik most people felt like that in school, including me :)

  • I dislike just to be contrarian.

  • Four people hate math.

  • Oh and is it me or are there no black people at MIT?

  • @DeltaA118 He's addressing the "MIT Club of Northern California", if you know how to pay attention to details. MIT Club of Northern California may not have a black member.

  • @DeltaA118 they were at KFC at that moment, watching khan's video of course

  • You should make a commercial!

  • I think the black back ground helps for concentration. There's not as much glare with black and colours make things more interesting and help me to differentiate between what your explaining in one area and another area. I'm 18, Dyslexic and studying electronic engineering at university. The ability to rewind is such a help. I'm a fond advocate of repetition, its how I learn and with videos you can keep going over something with out exasperating the teacher.

  • That makes sense about the 95% student getting less on his next test. In My a-levels in maths I started on 87% for first exam then 86% for the next 84% for the next 83%. All be it a subtle lowering in grade it means I should go back over the topics I didn't understand. The problem is with exam board assessed exams they don't give you your paper back so you don't know what you did wrong.

  • i watch his videos for revision it helps keep it going

  • 4 people got F labelled on ther face

  • i told my teacher about this and he slapped me

  • 4people dont know 1 + 1

  • 4 people failed disastrously in their exams

  • hey sal you have done a great work.. this justifies... increasing the confidence levels for every individual for any age group.

  • I really want to hear him on ted :)

  • your are the only adult who actually gets this unfair school system! my parents should hear this :)

  • I hope you never sell out, I would donate if there were more options other than paypal...

  • anybody else has funny colours trailing when viewing the video? neon green and pink and so forth?

  • i have EXACTLY the same perspective Sal , n im so happy i've actually found someone who thinks JUST the same way !

i really wish i could work with you !!

  • Khan, you are a genius my friend!

  • 1:10:10 - " Teachers are - I think, you know - products of the same system: their products where they don't have the intuition and connection [and BECAUSE OF THAT] their passing on this type of rote, superficial way of understanding things."

A most delightful concoction of candor and wisdom: Salman Khan.

  • I love your vision man. And yes, educators can adapt, to feel less threatened.

I agree that social problem solving is better. I also agree that this might leave more extra time for creative courses etc.

Interpretation of the data/feedback system is all content-based. So I find the question about 10% with learning difficulty or styles very interesting.

e.g. the girl who got stuck, raced ahead, got stuck, raced again: maybe she saw she needs to slow down &goof off, or get thru content too quickly.

  • I love u Man.... I will complete watching all of your videos... Insha Allah...

  • 33:57

  • What a hunk! Educated & Funny

  • so hilarious n informative at the same time - sal could have been a stand up... 1.23hrs just flew...

  • I think this the best exposition of what Sal is trying to do. And I love the upside down homework model.

If only I could work out how to make Sal style screencasts on Linux

  • @alecclews Have you tried wine and Smoothdraw?

  • The problem you are discussing during the 12 - 13 minute point is simple, it's how bureaucracies work. It was designed that way from the start.

  • Movie Title Suggestion: Upload and Deliver

  • *funny way to express amount of dislikes*

  • I wish Sal was my teacher in school, so much more interesting than our boring professors and teachers (yawn)!

  • I wish we got our education this way when we were kids!

  • you are brilliant! i'm a graduate but everything i learned in university had always been hazy, i just managed to do the minimum to get to the next level. but that is not what learning is all about. before, it was a chore to study and learn especially when you can't grasp the concept for whatever reason or circumstance. but now, it is thrilling to go back and learn differential equations and laplace transforms and higher mathematics.

YOU'RE THE NEW EUCLID BETTER BY SEVERAL ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE!

  • I am very interested in seeing you take this concept further, and as you mentioned, starting to do it in a more classic school setting (the summer camp "experiment"). I only hope that others, more influential than myself, are following your developments with as much interest as I am.

  • Look at Harvard Extension's CS50.tv Now that UI format is way better then MIT OCW

  • 18:55 is hilarious. Thank you Sal. U shuld b the next American President.

  • @boeing747200lr 0.0 wow a lot of ppl LUV him! ^^

  • It's 4 in the morning and I am still watching this lol.

  • @ZnBangash say what?

  • thumbs up if you believe this guy deserves the nobel prize !

  • @farshadguitar thumbs up (im doing it! ^^)

  • where is that graph shown at 08:43?

Can i find it on the website?

  • @mauroprovatos You can find it as the exercisedashboard on his site.

  • Whoever thumbs down this video is an idiot <.<

  • @HinduWonder770 0.0 i luv this guy!

  • very funny

  • Sal, I was listening to you talk about an interface between peers that people could rate and comment on answers to questions. I think cramster does something similar to that. On that site they basically have question and answer areas where people are rewarded for helping others(they get rewarded more for helping paying members), and they get rated on how well they help. This site mainly just has questions in textbooks that they answer in the form similar to a solution manual...

  • Best video I've seen in a while. I would say "Khan for President" but that would mean he'd just be wasting time in politics.

  • Salman Khan for Education Secretary

  • i love you man!

  • Sal, what would be the best path to go calculus on your videos?

Also, do you ever get tired of being so awesome?

  • Great points made in this video:

-Concepts shouldn't be tied with age

-We shouldn't settle for Cs or Bs but As

-The typical classroom setting is ineffiecent today

-Textbooks are written in a difficult way

-Educational tools should be implemented on the classroom, such as: random problem generators and software to track student progress

-Educational material should be available on any device, anywhere I can't wait to watch Sal on TED! ( P.S. Watched this entire video, worth it!)

  • why would you down-thumb this, WHYYYYYY!!!! Internet, u so cruel!

  • You are helping too many people here in Brazil, Sal!

I would like to thank you on behalf of all these people!

  • "how many of you saw the webapplication on the site?"

    ...

"oh, ok, so that's a much lower penetration rate"

    5:40 min in video

  • After 33 years away from Algebra, I'm going to back to college. You can't imagine how much your videos have helped me. I love your sense of humor and style of teaching. It makes perfect sense AND I can pause and replay as many times as I'd like. I wish you would work the problems on the Florida Accuplacer College Placement Test (CPT). Will you consider it? Thank you Sal.

  • one day I see Sal in Washington, revamping our education system

  • Thanks Salman Khan for everything you have done and everything you continue to do. I would second the call for CS videos! Again thanks! : )

  • Is this guy a billionaire yet? Can I invest?

  • Great talk, Sal. The future is changing, and it is becoming increasingly clear that our progress is exponential. Education is yet another paradigm which is bound to undergo a stunning metamorphosis.

We've made more technological and scientific progress in the last ten years than in the history of mankind. Here's to an ever-accelerating future.

  • People. His plan is right now a beta in a game its a a work in progress progressively getting better

  • Miseducation: Broadcasting lessons and moving forward without having really an intuition and understanding - two wise take-aways.

In europe/germany they are some attempts to get away from broadcasting lessons/ex-cathedra teaching. But that takes time.

Nethertheless - everything stands and falls with the teacher - no matter the circumstances.

You are gifted. Keep on moving. Change the world. Save lifes.

    Vector calculus for everyone. :-)

  • @eigovideos, I think YT comments themselves are a good way to practice essay writing skills. You just have to do it one paragraph at a time.

  • Thanks YouTube for giving this video more than the usual time allocation of 10min because Salman deserves as much for all the selfless time and effort he gives. As the presenter mentioned..."world class educator." That title fits him well. My thanks to Salman Khan and his videos.

  • Who's the idiot that gave this video a thumbs down , they probably didn't even give the time to view it.

  • an hour and half glimpse of the future of education!!!!

  • Yeah, programming classes on Khan academy would be great. Also more calculus in the III to IV level.

  • @GoodTunesFtw I completely agree Khan. I really want to learn how to program and I think it would be a great addition if you can post videos.

    Thanks

    ~Long time Khanacademy watcher sam

  • @eigovideos Doesn't creative thinking come from already gained knowledge? So if you learn so much more with free online education it might give you more possibilities to think creatively.. But I nevertheless think you're right.. High quality feedback might be the limitation... I'm sure that Sal already has an idea for that though ;)

  • i love you sal

  • Sal, I want to say thanks. You helped me pass Physics 12, Calculus 12, Chemistry 12 and Math 12 with flying colours. Thank you.

  • Sal is a legend – when I get older and learn a lot about some certain subject, I will be doing the same exact thing that he is doing.

  • Khan is great... Can you make videos on Discrete Mathematics??? Anyway I love watching your videos!

  • two thumbs up

  • i wish everyone was like sal ;)

  • @plllll0 No you don't. Then people would tire of my jokes and there'd be a shortage of Lactaid and dark chocolate.

  • @khanacademy OMG sal replied to my comment =D

  • @khanacademy quit your modesty Sal, you are starting a revolution, and I am excited to see where it goes in the upcoming years, especially as a very bored undergrad pre dent student...

  • @khanacademy lol..... u eat dark chocolate? and i think ur jokes r da bomb! tht kung-fu one on GEL was kool! ^^ keep it up

  • @khanacademy I wish everyone TAUGHT like you, and cared about the teaching system.

  • @khanacademy you are my hero

  • @plllll0 I agree. Then our world would be more enriched with intelligence.

  • すごい!

    Salが 大好き!

  • great video Sal. you spoke about Military Veterans going back to school after their service and I fit that bill. I have forgotten some concepts but your videos have helped me tremendously. Combined with your explanation and hard work; I have passed College-Algebra, Trig and Calculus I. thank you Sir

  • You're awesome! :]

  • I can't imagine why sum1 would leave a negative comment to ANY video of Salman Khan. He is a genius simply!

  • Excellent nfo. I find that many dont have an understanding of the practical usage of math. For example the CFO guy that Mr. Khan worked for in the Hedge fund company. They dont think that algebra and any other forms of math are for everyday usage and that is a huge problem.

  • Replace the thumbs down option with a two-thumbs-up button.

  • You go sal. we need to develop new methods of education such as this.

  • When do you think this one-on-one web interaction will actually be up and running?

  • At my school we spend at least about 30mins of the class to go through the homework

  • @crocz

You're not the only one, it's such a massive waste of time.

  • This is a lecture/talk that should be repeated in every math teacher training program in the USA.

If American education is to compete in the world-wide market, this is a vital step in what school work, lessons and assessments must become.

  • great job sal!

  • What I like best about this talk is the emphasis on data. I think there's a fair amount of faith included in our current educational paradigm. Facts move mountains. Thanks for pushing thing forward, Sal.

  • i dont know you but damn i have much respect for you!

  • your amazing salman!

  • dammn Sal, graduated from MIT and Harvard Business School?

  • Let him talk at TED already and give him a blanko-check for his cause.

    Thumbs up for music-lectures :D

  • Greatest movie ever.

  • hey! it's the guy!!

  • very good lecture thanks for the upload too! also Sal you might want to consider WordPress for your site it may make it easier to navigate and to update etc. anyway thanks again!

  • This dude should get a peace prize or something similar.....

  • The audience sounds like a bunch of pretentious so and so's due their laughter

  • I wish I discovered you earlier in my life!! I would be averaging an A in everything!! You should do interactive videos or a website where we can solve the problems! You Rock Sal!!!

  • thumbs up!

  • oh man I laughed so hard at the white supremacy bit

  • DID YOU MAKE YOUTUBE PARTNER YET? SORRY FOR CAPS TRYING TO GET YOUR ATTENTION. YOU POST REGULARLY AND YOU GET MANY VIEWERS
