This by far the most fantastic paradigm shift in education that I have seen.
By commoditizing basic core education and adding in the ability to create a self contained mobile platform then all people on the planet will benefit.
Putting both khanacadamy and Wikipedia both in one single "box" and sending that box around the world, this will remove many hurdles in education which is one of the primary causes of inequality around the world.
The real time monitoring on learning is fabulous, here, that Sal illustrates. It used to be said after your schooling is over ur education begins; yet, here is real education even after the yrs. of schooling are over - schooling that was definitely OLD school and outdated vs this so much more precise & concise!

Thank you Sal. I have never met you but you have done more for me than many people. Because of you I am 12 years old and a freshman in highschool. You have made my life much better. Salman, I can say this with truth in my voice. You are one the brightest humanbeings I ever had honor see before. Way you grasp math an way you can teach it to others. Is amazing. You have true gift with math, an what makes this even better is your sharing your gift with others. You have honestly taught me so much about math. Things I forgot an never knew before is now growing inside my mind.LOL Im so thankful for finding your youtube channel. You are a true icon of teaching others about math
Hey Salman! You are famous even in Brazil!!! I just heard about you on the radio!!! Congrats!! Wish I could have a teacher like you when I was kid! Take care!!!
Anti-Grade. An interesting concept, although I always believed in it. I was a B student in school and C in university. As soon as I hit professional college, I was straight A+. You know why? Simply because those courses were "Self-Paced". You hear a cassette and read a book with half page paragraphs followed by questions. At 54, I am learning Calculus simply because Khan's videos are 10 minutes and I can rewind.
@farooqihassan I always believed the grade reflects the teacher more than the student. I started to read and write at age 2, wrote my first poem at age 4, had lots of children's books and loved reading.
After 3 years of school (age 7) my teachers were telling my parents that I had a 'reading comprehension problem'. Their "tests" had said so. And instead of telling the teachers they were idiots, my parents were embarrassed and disappointed in me. For 10 years I felt stupid and hated reading.
@kozychik You are absolutely correct. In elementary school, my son was diagnosed with learning disability and put in special ed. He got Cs and Ds and was a year behind for most subjects. Then we had to move and the next school did not have funds for special ed and he had to be put in regular class. There he got Bs and Cs. They skipped him a grade and he started getting A's and B's. They put him in advance group and he became an honor student. He aced AMC-8 and was identified as gifted!
@farooqihassan Oh, thank goodnes! I don't hear enough stories with happy endings. Thank you for sharing that. Never let children think anything is wrong with them. Always emphasize their strengths and interests.
Show them new ways of learning and a whole world of possibility will open up for them! I hope your son is confidently persuing anything and everything he wants to do, learn or be!
@DeltaA118 He's addressing the "MIT Club of Northern California", if you know how to pay attention to details. MIT Club of Northern California may not have a black member.
I think the black back ground helps for concentration. There's not as much glare with black and colours make things more interesting and help me to differentiate between what your explaining in one area and another area. I'm 18, Dyslexic and studying electronic engineering at university. The ability to rewind is such a help. I'm a fond advocate of repetition, its how I learn and with videos you can keep going over something with out exasperating the teacher.
That makes sense about the 95% student getting less on his next test. In My a-levels in maths I started on 87% for first exam then 86% for the next 84% for the next 83%. All be it a subtle lowering in grade it means I should go back over the topics I didn't understand. The problem is with exam board assessed exams they don't give you your paper back so you don't know what you did wrong.
1:10:10 " Teachers are - I think, you know - products of the same system: their products where they don't have the intuition and connection [and BECAUSE OF THAT] their passing on this type of rote, superficial way of understanding things."

I love your vision man. And yes, educators can adapt, to feel less threatened.
I agree that social problem solving is better. I also agree that this might leave more extra time for creative courses etc.
Interpretation of the data/feedback system is all content-based. So I find the question about 10% with learning difficulty or styles very interesting.
e.g. the girl who got stuck, raced ahead, got stuck, raced again: maybe she saw she needs to slow down &goof off, or get thru content too quickly.
you are brilliant! i'm a graduate but everything i learned in university had always been hazy, i just managed to do the minimum to get to the next level. but that is not what learning is all about. before, it was a chore to study and learn especially when you can't grasp the concept for whatever reason or circumstance. but now, it is thrilling to go back and learn differential equations and laplace transforms and higher mathematics.
YOU'RE THE NEW EUCLID BETTER BY SEVERAL ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE!
I am very interested in seeing you take this concept further, and as you mentioned, starting to do it in a more classic school setting (the summer camp "experiment"). I only hope that others, more influential than myself, are following your developments with as much interest as I am.
Sal, I was listening to you talk about an interface between peers that people could rate and comment on answers to questions. I think cramster does something similar to that. On that site they basically have question and answer areas where people are rewarded for helping others(they get rewarded more for helping paying members), and they get rated on how well they help. This site mainly just has questions in textbooks that they answer in the form similar to a solution manual...
After 33 years away from Algebra, I'm going to back to college. You can't imagine how much your videos have helped me. I love your sense of humor and style of teaching. It makes perfect sense AND I can pause and replay as many times as I'd like. I wish you would work the problems on the Florida Accuplacer College Placement Test (CPT). Will you consider it? Thank you Sal.
Great talk, Sal. The future is changing, and it is becoming increasingly clear that our progress is exponential. Education is yet another paradigm which is bound to undergo a stunning metamorphosis.
We've made more technological and scientific progress in the last ten years than in the history of mankind. Here's to an ever-accelerating future.
Thanks YouTube for giving this video more than the usual time allocation of 10min because Salman deserves as much for all the selfless time and effort he gives. As the presenter mentioned..."world class educator." That title fits him well. My thanks to Salman Khan and his videos.
@eigovideos Doesn't creative thinking come from already gained knowledge? So if you learn so much more with free online education it might give you more possibilities to think creatively.. But I nevertheless think you're right.. High quality feedback might be the limitation... I'm sure that Sal already has an idea for that though ;)
@khanacademy quit your modesty Sal, you are starting a revolution, and I am excited to see where it goes in the upcoming years, especially as a very bored undergrad pre dent student...
great video Sal. you spoke about Military Veterans going back to school after their service and I fit that bill. I have forgotten some concepts but your videos have helped me tremendously. Combined with your explanation and hard work; I have passed College-Algebra, Trig and Calculus I. thank you Sir
Excellent nfo. I find that many dont have an understanding of the practical usage of math. For example the CFO guy that Mr. Khan worked for in the Hedge fund company. They dont think that algebra and any other forms of math are for everyday usage and that is a huge problem.
What I like best about this talk is the emphasis on data. I think there's a fair amount of faith included in our current educational paradigm. Facts move mountains. Thanks for pushing thing forward, Sal.
very good lecture thanks for the upload too! also Sal you might want to consider WordPress for your site it may make it easier to navigate and to update etc. anyway thanks again!
I wish I discovered you earlier in my life!! I would be averaging an A in everything!! You should do interactive videos or a website where we can solve the problems! You Rock Sal!!!

Great points made in this video:
-Concepts shouldn't be tied with age
-We shouldn't settle for Cs or Bs but As
-The typical classroom setting is ineffiecent today
-Textbooks are written in a difficult way
-Educational tools should be implemented on the classroom, such as: random problem generators and software to track student progress
-Educational material should be available on any device, anywhere I can't wait to watch Sal on TED! ( P.S. Watched this entire video, worth it!)

Miseducation: Broadcasting lessons and moving forward without having really an intuition and understanding - two wise take-aways.
In europe/germany they are some attempts to get away from broadcasting lessons/ex-cathedra teaching. But that takes time.
Nethertheless - everything stands and falls with the teacher - no matter the circumstances.
You are gifted. Keep on moving. Change the world. Save lifes.

great video Sal. you spoke about Military Veterans going back to school after their service and I fit that bill. I have forgotten some concepts but your videos have helped me tremendously. Combined with your explanation and hard work; I have passed College-Algebra, Trig and Calculus I. thank you Sir

I can't imagine why sum1 would leave a negative comment to ANY video of Salman Khan. He is a genius simply!

Excellent nfo. I find that many dont have an understanding of the practical usage of math. For example the CFO guy that Mr. Khan worked for in the Hedge fund company. They dont think that algebra and any other forms of math are for everyday usage and that is a huge problem.

This is a lecture/talk that should be repeated in every math teacher training program in the USA.
If American education is to compete in the world-wide market, this is a vital step in what school work, lessons and assessments must become.

What I like best about this talk is the emphasis on data. I think there's a fair amount of faith included in our current educational paradigm. Facts move mountains. Thanks for pushing thing forward, Sal.
