Its now 4 years since this demo, and water still looks and acts more like jelly than proper liquid.

I am with le457, get rid of the consoles so that things can move forward some more.

So for us mere amitures we will just have to make do with the 2D image and an optical illushion.

Oh yeah, you can't have nvidia cards in crossfire, it's called SLI.

This demo was made with an 8800GTX (you can pick one or another of comparable specs for around 100 - 150$, this was one of the fastest cards out when this video was made though).

Your processor is bottlenecking your GPU, which, thanks to Pentium D, can't even perform to half of its capacity, and your RAM is necessary to calculate physics and stuff like that (unless this simulation uses PhysX). You need a new processor, RAM, and the motherboard to support the upgrades, otherwise you might as well buy a 5 year old graphics card.

If you look extremely closely you will see that the smoke/water is responding to the mouse. I think that means it is rendered in real time. Also, as it is a tech demo it is supposed to be possible on their production cards. But that's just my guess...

And this is "Old Tech". The New GTX295's are so much more powerful than the gpu's this demo was designed for, it could do 100 of these smoke boxes in real time with its newer architecture and its die shrink, they overclock like a bitch to. Thats not to say this is still cool as hell.

@TAz69x Still my GTX 295. To be honest, it'll probably last me until the next console generation. Except for a couple of exceptions (Empire Total War and Crysis for example) modern PC games are high res ports of console games. I mean, sure it means no DX11, but seeing as nothing has even nearly utilised DX11 properyl yet I'm not fussed.

Of course, Crysis 2 isn't out yet. If I can't run it at full, that'll probably be a good excuse to upgrade. :P

I bought my laptop with a 9800M GTS 1GB, 4GB, Core 2 Duo, etc. for $1399 CDN, which I was AMAZED to find at the time for that price! 1900x1200 monitor, and it's never skipped a beat in >18 months.

I'd definitely buy another Gateway computer; I'm impressed.

Anyway, I had PhysX enabled to render on my CPU, so I got low framerate. When i enabled the GPU it was a massive increase in performance. And: my 9800 is clocked at higher speeds than a standard 9800gtx+ :P

they have not been used in game yet.

I love the smoke, but disturbed water gets a bit cloudy... think white water. I'd like to see a provision for this. Nvidia's acquired Aegia now, and hopefully this' a hint for what they have in store. I only hope publishers aren't forced to program for two completely incompatible physics architectures.

Any CPU or GPU since the 6-series and ATi:s 9800-series will have No problems rendering this. It's a very primitive demo in the end, even if it looks solid it is old technology showing.
