  • As an atheist from Waco Texas, I feel the need to apologize to bill nye.

  • I'm a complete dumbass when it comes to science, but I knew that electricity was moving ions...this is awkward

  • Wow, it astounds me that textbooks can get this bad. I was homeschooled by very religious parents, and they used religion-based textbooks as well (from a business called "Apalogia Ministries"), but not NEARLY as bad as these. I think the most annoying thing is that every other paragraph just had to mention how awesome god is for creating something this awesome. Then in highschool biology, there was an entire module devoted to how evolution is wrong..... ugh :p

  • People are stupid because they choose comfort over facts.

  • Painfully stupid!

I hope it's not genetic... otherwise you americans seem to have a very high need for genetic engineering!

  • Lol wow.

I got you beat though. My High School "science textbook" said that the sun proves that god exists. How? Because even after 6000 years it is still burning hydrogen despite the fact that there is no oxygen in space.

Ahh...Abeka, teaching children pure bull since 1954.

  • @Felhaven oh and this video alone earned you a sub.. That and i am kinda scared of your channel background.

  • LoL, I was half expecting a spoof of Backstreet Boys "I want it that way". ^_^

    Funny rant. :)

  • Electricity is the moving of electrons, and there are different theories about the origin of the moon, however, you are mostly right. The fact that anyone would try to teach children something so mindnumbingly stupid seriously appals me. I too let out a loud "WHAT?!" when you started reading from that book...I need to invest in some facepalm protection gear if I'm gonna keep watching your videos.

  • Fuckin magnets, how do they work?

  • In middle school teacher taught us that the moon itself had no gravity it just had leftover gravity from the earth. See our regular science teacher was on paternity leave so they put a substitute teacher in charge for the rest of the year.. despite her having no knowledge about science.

I would've corrected her, but I had been thrown out of the gifted course because i corrected the actual science teacher a while back. So figured it just be best to keep my mouth shut and ignore everything.

  • They call that education? This is brain washing and misinformation.

Of course, you need stupid brain washed humans to turn them into religious zombies. *sigh*

  • *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm*

    ...*dies of facepalms*

  • "It just is..." - in whatEVER form - has always struck me as the lamest answer there could ever possibly be to any given question...

...even when given to me as a young kid...

  • "God just did it that way" = "stop asking questions"

  • But then why does Jesus orbit the earth?

  • That textbook is ridiculous. Everyone knows:

    - electricity comes from Zeus' thunderbolt

    - the moon goddess Artemis is drawn through the sky by a chariot drawn by deer.

    Creationists are so stupid.

  • I could swear that I am using electricity right now.

  • Love the new text.

    ...Oh, good video too.

    Rawr!

  • Please point the authors of that "textbook" (I use the term as loosely as possible) in the direction of Edinburgh. I'll take them along to the James Clerk Maxwell Institute to learn about electromagnetic theory, then to the Royal Observatory of Edinburgh to learn about the Moon and cosmology, then to my opticians for them to pay for new glasses to replace those I've just broken through multiple facepalming. I wouldn't read that unintelligent bs to nursery schoolkids, let alone fourth graders.

  • Electricity is the movement of electrons! Ions are atoms with extra or missing electrons.

  • Dude. I'd say cool down, but there's nothing to cheer me up like watching you having a nervous breakdown at hyperspeed.

Great video, you make a solid point about fundie stupidity. Now go take a nap. ;)

  • Electricity, How does it work?

  • 1:36 I thought electricity was moving electrons? :3

  • Evolution of the moon? O_O

Do you realise that the moon is not alive, do you?

And it is "ASTROPHYSICS" that cover the moon subjects, NOT evolution FFS!

Than by your logic i am a god.

At least i can poof smells into existence! (i bet your got can't)

  • and when you point out how fucking incompetent this so-called creator is, when you point out flaws in creation, in this supposedly divine plan according to the biblical fantasy story, they'll say 'who are you to judge god?' and 'you don't get to decide what god does! god does things his way whether you like it or not (and coincidentally, they always agree with what their god does). Basically they're saying we should expect less of this omnipotent god. 'god did it this way, just accept it'. No.

  • OHhhhhhh The HUMANnnnnnITY ..Think Fantasy island when you read this !

The PAIN is Coming The PAIN is Coming !!!! ETC ETC ETC LOL"z

  • I have never face palmed so much in my life!

  • And know we know where Bill O'Reilly learned about the solar system.

  • a text book from a private christian school translated means brainwashing children to be just like us

  • Liked the video however, one little mistake. Electricity is the movement of electrons, not ions.

  • @Elsoddo When talking about cellular activity in the human body, I have always seen it as charged ions. Apparently, so has PZ Myers.

  • @TheBarkingAtheist That doesn't change that the deffinition of electrisity is the movement of electrons. Ions are electricly charged atoms or molecules.

  • @TheBarkingAtheist @Elsoddo , I think both are actually correct. Both electrons and ions are electrically charged particles. It's the movement or concentration of electrically charged particles that form electricity. The concentration causes tension (Voltage), the movement causes current (Amperage)... Well... At least, in a nutshell...

  • WHAT???!!!!

  • Oh, have felt and seen electricity, BTW. For those that blissfully are unaware, it feels like: painful contractions of every muscle in your body combined with pressure in your skull.

  • they are lieing, no one can possibly be that stupid

  • Oh the face palms!!!

  • Let ALL OF MY RAGE!!! be blessed upon anyone who disagrees with this video.

  • It was written for 4th graders, most adults wouldn't even know how the moon originated. However on a side note; look up "evolutionist" in the Oxford dictionary, it's a real word and can be applied so.

  • lol dude that's horrible.

  • @SROnivera A Creationist running for president? o.O I hope to have moved to Canada IF he ever wins.

  • This is why creationism should NEVER be taught in schools. Dumbing down science much? o__O

  • @HappyAtheist76 One reason why they've lowered the standards for schools :(

  • @secretk33per Exactly! The educational standards in my district in Tennessee are horrendous. Not in terms of creationism but just poor standards in general. Things really need to change :/

  • Comment removed

  • @secretk33per Agreed.

  • @HappyAtheist76 I sympathize with you... I live in Tennessee :( . 'Love the state, hate the state of it.

  • thanks...I think I just broke my nose from facepalming to this video!

  • I'm surprised that books like that don't cause head implosions >.>

  • New FONT! Love it!

  • I find it decreases the chance of pain from facepalming if I pre facepalm and keep my hand there while i listen or read the stupid statements.

  • Your country really scares me :(

  • Thats an incredibly stupid and ridiculous book.

Electricity (Charge) is a basic property of matter - like mass.

Moving charge makes an electric current. (electrons ions -any particle that carries a non-zero charge)

  • Daniel, dealing with idiots and primitive religious people is the easiest thing to do.

I wonder how you can challenge the educated people among them. I dunno if you know it, but there are many scientists that believe in God and take the bible not literally. Some of them even won the Noble Prize.

  • "Anti-intellectual child abuser". Amen. In some ways (and I stress some), private Christian schools with textbooks like these are the American version of madrassas, leaving kids in a dangerously ignorant place by adolescence. [Go ahead, someone get angry.]

  • Great video! Have you seen this? /watch?v=DVAgz6iyK6A&feature=aso

Looooots of christian examples of love in the comments of that video.

  • What are you talking about man? The FSM created everything with his Noodley Appendages! May you be touched by Noodley Appendage, R'amen

  • I remember learning more about electricity in the third grade.

  • When I tell these monkeys that I'm man-made and god had nothing to do with my creation they say "Well god made the human that made you so god made you." I'm glad I don't feel pain because the stupid burns -__-

  • Are you related to the "Cult of Dusty"? You both have very good Videos.

  • This was hilarious. keep up the good work.

  • I think I heard a member of Biolgos the Christian pro evolution group of scientists say that you have to put what science shows us before what the bible tells us.

  • I say Vogter facebook this book and looked at the "Moon" section I was screaming at my computer for like an hour. The stupid it burned so bad I was wanting bleach for my brain.

  • No one's ever felt it? Ask my great grandpa who got struck by lightening TWICE about how electricity....Idiots

  • the reason why the moon reflects so much light is 1 no atomosphere and 2 a mineral called plagioclase feldspar which is rich in calcium ,aluminium and silicon and small traces of titanium , i guess i went to a junior school where they taught some real science ,

  • @jmm1233 Hell, even I didn't know about that. I guess that can be chalked up to the fact that I have only been subjected to Texas schools. Get me out of here!

  • @TheBarkingAtheist yes , uk schools seem better then texas schools , we even learnt about evolution in a generalized way through botony and incests reproduction and bioecosystems , it was fun since we got to play in the dirt planting flowers , most of it though when it came to cosmology was that we had to watch the video tapes from bbc2 eduction series and take notes

  • @TheBarkingAtheist Wow I'm so sorry Daniel... I give you my fullest sympathies.

  • is fred phelps dead yet i wanna see an orgy on this channel

  • The last refuge of a man with no answers and no argument. "God did it." Anything we can't describe must have come from God. - George Carlin

  • Thumbs up for saying fuck so few times. I think If I made this video, the point where I started reading I would just start chanting fuck until the stupid went away.

  • You should put a 'wear hard hat warning' the next time you address something this unbelievably stupid.

  • I facepalmed so hard that I sneezed and farted at the same time.

  • When talking about the moon, it was actually another planet that collided with earth, about Mars sized.

It's a minute detail, really unimportant in this context, but I just think it's funny since it sounds so doomsday-esque. Planets colliding and such.

  • @berniebay Meteor, planet. Same thing. Lol

  • "Evolutionists don't exist" THANK YOU! I've been saying this to my creationist (being polite) friends for years now.

  • I would like to see you review Ann Coulter post on the Death Penalty that she put out yesterday.

  • Don't think about that textbook passage for more than 3 minutes or Blood will shoot out of your nose!

  • You said woof!

  • @devchelle2 Dev, if you weren't so goddamn attractive, I would still rape you.

  • @TheBarkingAtheist I'll rape him anyway...js

  • @TheBarkingAtheist Can you give us a tour of your bedroom please?

  • I'm so freaking happy to live in Switzerland.

you really should move here because I never heard bullshit like this up here.

Actually nobody knows what I.D. is...

nobody cares about your sexuality, and thats coming from somebody living in a town with 95% katholik inhabitants

  • I didn't get my protective headgear fast enough

I'm now pretty much finger fucking my cerebral cortex -_-

  • sorry to bother you but id like a link to that bill nye clip

  • @rzq100 I'm not sure if there is a clip, but I know there are a couple posts about it. Just Google something along the lines of "Bill Nye, Waco, bible." That should get you what you're looking for.

  • OW MY BRAIN!!!! Great now I need to watch about two hours of Living Dino in order to IQ back.

  • Lightning is just a big discharge of static electricity... I mean it's so simple, humans can do it, just not on a big of a scale.

  • haha, I was wondering when you'd get around to this...

  • Did you mean to say "electrons" instead of "ions" at 1:36 or so?

  • @firefly4f4 No. I meant ions. That is what electricity is. It's the movement of charged ions. At least, in biochemical reactions it is.

  • @TheBarkingAtheist Electrons are not ions and their motion certainly produces electricity. More to the point I want to make however is that to say "ions (or electrons) in motion" only tells something about ions and electrons, nothing about the actual EM force. The fact is no one has a clue what energy is or any form of energy including electricity. We only know how it affects things, and that all things, striped of their informational content, are energy.

  • @TheBarkingAtheist I do not believe this is correct. An ion is an atom or molecule where the total number of electrons and protons is not equal. Table salt dissolved in water, for instance, gives Na+ and Cl- (I may have the +/- signs on the wrong atom). I think what you might be confused about here is the flow of electrons (typically) from one ion to the other -- from a negative ion to a positive one. The ions themselves are not what moves (well, they do, but they're not the electricity).

  • @firefly4f4 No, take brain cells, they have electric activity yet not electrons are flowing around but ions are. Every stream of charged particles between two places with a potential difference is, I think, considered to be an electric current.

  • @189643478 Potentially, yes, any stream of charged particles is an electric current. However, I maintain that what is most commonly referred to as electricity -- as in what flows in power lines and lightning bolts -- is a flow of electrons, not ions.

From typing "what is electricity" into google:

about.com -- Electricity is the flow of electrons.

edu.pe.ca -- Electricity is the flow of moving electrons.

Then you have amasci.com which explicitly states it has some contradictory definitions.

  • so, what are you planning for your future?
