Just checked out the titan tv programming guide for WVIT NBC 30 and while the channel is still titled "NBC PLUS" it is actually airing newscasts probably local repeating every 30 minutes throughout the day. Looks like Weather PLUS is gone there too.
I know that a satellite service provided the data (radar, cloud satellite, forecasts,ect) for the Weather PLUS engine we saw at the local level. I wonder if this is still operating today?
It's really interesting to see all the unhappy viewers post here and elsewhere about the removal of Weather PLUS from NBC affiliates. There are tons of complaints, and yet we are told (by the affiliates) that the "viewer" really wants more mindless reruns, infomercials, and other garbage like cooking shows instead of 24/7 up to the minute weather info. RIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!
This is why OTA is dying, they REFUSE TO LISTEN TO THEIR VIEWERS !!!!!!!! The viewers want their Weather PLUS back!!!!
Update from my last post...our local NBC station WYFF4 removed Weather PLUS on Jan 1, 2011. Weather PLUS (NBC PLUS) will be sorely missed by many viewers! Bring it BACK! WYFF4 replaced it with something called THIS TV, a network that shows crappy third rate sitcoms, series and movies from decades ago. Nobody actually watches THIS TV. Thanks to Hearst Broadcasting ( which owns WYFF and other affiliates) for only caring about your bottom line and NOT the viewers interests !
...though to be honest, the channel IS pretty messed up, since January you would see numbers appearing and disappearing for no reason, for weeks now there have been audio issues, I noticed last night on one screen all of the temperatures and icons (sun, clouds, etc) were piled into one spot on a black background, and as of right now the channel is just green snow with no sound. Maybe they finally killed it off here, I don't know...
Most likely the system (at your local end) crashed , and needs to be rebooted. This happens on occasion, perhaps since the network stopped maintaining and sending updates (like MS windows gets) for the computer program it fails from time to time.
I have noticed when the Weather PLUS software crashes it goes to a green screen which alerts the technical staff it needs attention.
We still have Weather PLUS, (same graphics) but not the same music.
Sounds like weather channel music. well the weather channel did get bought by NBC for 3 billion. so you should expect alot of Weather Channel NBC Mash ups.
Odd how it suddenly switched to the music from the national feed at 3:30. I didn't get the newer songs at the beginning of the clip until December 31. For several months before then I got a just national Weather Plus feed with nothing but national maps and music with occasional commercials.
Found two stations that definitely still air Weather PLUS.
WBIR NBC10 Weather PLUS Nashville, TN
WHO NBC13 Weather PLUS Des Moines, IA
Both still use the old (GREAT) format with the original graphics and radar, ect. Which I always thought were at least as good as TWC.
Both stream it LIVE through their websites like all the other Weather PLUS stations used to do as well.
