The 5th seal reveals that there will be martyrs who die for their faith in Jesus Christ. This will happen in the period before the Great Tribulation, but will be intensified to the greatest extent during the Great Tribulation. The 6th seal is very interesting. The Sun going black is God turning out the lights. The moon turning to blood are the saints being massacred. Satan and his evil forces, the 'powers of the heavens', will be shaken out for judgement.

You are correct, the greatest period of martyrdom by far will be during the Great Tribulation. My point is that it may begin before that. In Matt 24:9 the martyrdom is mentioned BEFORE the Abomination Of Desolation and the Great Tribulation in Matt 24:15-21, which marks the second half.Consider that the martyrs of the 5th seal DON'T KNOW how much longer it will be until they are avenged. If this was AFTER the A of D and resurrection of the antichrist, they WOULD KNOW there are 3 1/2 yrs left
@KnowTheTruth12 HOWEVER, another view is that Matt 24:4-14 takes us all the way through the entire 7 years, and that vs. 15-28 are a RECAP of the second half of the tribulation. In this case, which I am very open to, the martyrdom would solely be in the second half of the tribulation. As always, I reserve the right to be wrong, and welcome correction and discussion.
