  • what knife is that you use when oyu hit it into the tree in the intro?

  • Good review. Great hair.

  • It is a combat knife.

  • @DrColeMan88 True - which is one of the reasons as to why it's definitely not my favourite.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • That knife is old

  • I have the 5.25 version and as a general purpose knife its awesome...for larger work I carry a large bowie knife.

  • I own both the 5.25'' and 7'' KABAR and they are very good outdoor knives. They have never let me down.

  • To all who have an issue with the Ka Bar being to large they make a "mini" as they call it the is the same design but with a 5 inch blade and a folding version that uses the first 3 inches of the model shown in the video. There worth a look and feature the over all utility Ka Bar is known for. Granted as a Ka Bar owner and fan I do tend to lean to the brand (10 years in counting in the military it was bound to happen) but Tokr72 said pairing it with other blades is a treat in its own right.

  • That's good a whole-some, sexy piece of steel right there! Thanks for the tutorial

  • Very good video, unbiased and honest. I'm taking a KA-BAR on my AT hike in March. I know it's overkill but I'll suck up the extra weight. Thanks for posting.

  • Good vid. glad to hear you liked it. admit it though, it hurt your English sensibilities just a little bit to praise this legendary American blade. hey, it's cool. I completely understand. the knife won you over though, a testament to its enduring credit. Ka Bar. kill a bear. ooh ah! God bless the USA and all her allies.

  • @tokr72 lol didn't hurt anything mate, Justin loves knives so it was easy for him to like a classic. I personally would say it's too large and cumbersome, a smaller blade in the right hands is more useful - if I owned this knife I know it'd spend more time on the shelf than it would my belt.

  • @NaturalBushcraft I hear you. i recently bought a Mora companion. two actually. one stainless, one carbon. like them very much, very impressed. super sharp and tough for their size. But you couldn't kill a bear with one. unless you are really, really mean, with a terrible disposition.. by the by, that's what Kabar means. kill a bear. interesting story behind that. pairing a Mora with the Kabar is a great outdoors duo though. lots of fun.

  • @tokr72 Yeeeeeee-haaaaaaaaaa!

  • @bikenutter1 Suey! y'all take care now, ya hear.

  • Wait, since when can you carry a 7" blade with you in the uk? I thought it's only 3" and it has to be folding and cannot be a fixed blade.

  • @tautisg1 Size is irrelevant here in the UK if your on your own land or land where you've got permission from the landowner to carry a sharp. But yes the other specs you mentioned are correct for carrying in a public place without getting in to trouble. A KA-BAR isn't a knife I would choose to carry in a public place.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • @NaturalBushcraft

Thanks a lot of for the info. Really big shame how knives are seen as weapons so often by so many because of the amount of stabbings here in the uk. It makes people who carry a knife for a good purpose (bushcraft, work, etc) look bad :(.

  • @NaturalBushcraft Yeah it is a shame a lot of people perceive them as weapons and not what they are (tools). The government hasn't done much to help with their absurd laws in a pitiful attempt to reduce knife-crime, not only have they increased the public's perception of them as being a weapon but they stop safety features like locking folders. A criminal won't abide such stupid laws they will just use a kitchen knife or whatever they can.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • @NaturalBushcraft exactly! its the same in denmark. its a shame.

  • @NaturalBushcraft well said

  • @NaturalBushcraft I am trying to spread the idea of petitioning for a UK license to be available to people that have no previous violent/weapon crimes to be able to carry a fixed blade, in a pack, in a sheath, not visible (so as not to intimidate the public) and with a current and valid purpose legally here in the UK, carried like any other ID card, what do you think? Would that be something that Natural Bushcraft may take up, and see if we can viral it on Youtube and Facebook?

  • @bikenutter1 Whilst I admire your enthusiasm part of me likes what your saying and another deeply dislikes the idea of more legislation to manage this, it's just patching & patching an increasingly broken society and I think creating a licensed scenario would actually be what the Gov would like to do (but wouldn't get away with - hence why it's not here) by default they'd make it more restrictive and use it as a tool to get knives out of the hands of more people.

  • @bikenutter1 Not sure mate, I'd like to discuss it further, I'll drop you a message.

    All the best,

    Ashley Cawley.

  • @tautisg1 unless you have good reason that is the case

  • very top shelf vid---you guys are pro!

  • Can you do a video on a Buck 119 special?

  • Hi does anyone know where I can get this in the uk??

  • @UrwahK Yes I purchased one from thebushcraftstore.co.uk they are great!

  • @ExpertSurvival thanks man :) do u also know if they are legal in the UK?

  • @UrwahK Yes they are not classed as an offensive weapon so are legal but are the same with any other knife being that if you have it in public you need a reason for carrying it, I carry mine when I'm out anyway. Bushcraft should be a valid reason! Really recommend one though mate

  • @ExpertSurvival sweet, thanks for that mate :)

  • I like how the intro is a nice natural theme for these vids.

Especially compared to the shooting/action/heavy metal that almost all the other gear review channels have.

  • @LRAJ88 Glad you like it :) It's changed in our more recent vids, but if anything it's even more chilled and shows nature :) All the best,

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • does any one have suggestion on what knife i shoul get? i want an all around great survival knife something that i can rely on my price range 60-70 dollars someone please answer

  • @UNDEADcountry either this ka bar or the mark 1 navy ka bar

  • Good review. I saw what I needed to see, no more and no less. I've subscribed and watched a few other very useful videos as well.

  • @MindRioteer We are straight to the point & like to share knowledge & skills freely.

  • and on the 8th day God created the Ka-bar

  • Very nice review, thank you! Gotta check out your channel!

  • @dullbrass Don't stop there!.. You should see our website too, packed full of even more reviews, articles & videos sharing skills and knowledge all for free!

    Ash.

  • thank you for the helpful review

  • Nice hair bra

  • I've been looking into buying one of these for months, probably almost a year now, and this video just sold me, definitely buying now!

  • now that is how to do a professional, simply put review. wonderful job mate

  • @gekkoguy911 Thanks buddy, I appreciate your comment. You should checkout our other reviews, we done a fair few knife reviews all following the same format. We all test the knives through our normal use for weeks prior to filming, we're also honest if there's something we don't like we'll say it.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • Great review! I am seriously thinking of getting myself one of these, I need a big knife that can chop easily and this looks like it does the job perfectly! Plus I love the look of it, I shall feel like Crocodile Dundee "This is a knife"

  • @ExpertSurvival hehe... it is that kind of knife isn't it.

  • Wtf r feather sticks?

  • @MegaJacklinks Instead of showing off your ignorance, why don't you try using the search box at the top of the page to find out. We and many others have done videos on it.

  • Loved the review! I use my KABAR USMC for dressing deer and every outside job you can think of. I love the history behind the knife and trust it 100%! Keep up the great reviews!

  • Too many people on youtube try to baton this knife through a freakin' redwood and then pronounce it a piece of junk when it fails. It is, as you say, a combat/utility knife. But people nowadays tend to equate utility with bushcraft, which is unwise.

  • great review! i see you say that it is not a great carver, and a "ok" chopper as well.... what do you recommend best for a chopper/carver knife?

  • This is a us military man's killing knife...

  • It dispatches enemy troops very well too! Alot of Nazi & Jap soldiers will agree with that:) (US Army)

  • Whats the "Feather Stick" do??

  • @HerbWalker Search for our other video "Making a Featherstick" and learn ;D They're great. Also if you've got any other Bushcraft questions pop onto our forum.

  • I have mine near me at ALL times:) US Army/ SCOUTS OUT!!

  • @funvandriver that price sounds about right. I bought mine off of sears website for around $60. The knife was great and got it in like 3 days.

  • This helped me get over my saw head...thank you

  • I'm getting a KA-BAR knife, but I need to know if it's real or not, I'm getting it for $66 on BUDK (dot) com, does that sound realistic?

  • i'm sorry, it is kinda not relevant question. but how do you get the water from the tree by sticking the kinfe into the tree?

  • @raddinity Search YouTube for another NaturalBushcraft video called "Tapping Birch Trees in March for Birch Sap" and all will be explained.

  • @mryellow123 Have you checked out the Coldsteel Leatherneck SF?

  • Been looking everywhere for a medium sized carbon blade with a hammer pommel that can take some "abuse" (alternatives to Ka-bar). Coming to the conclusion that there isn't anything which touches this blade, now just gotta get over the fact that I'll pay extra for the brand/trendy factor. All ears if someone has a good alternative without the back-edge bevel.

  • @mryellow123 there is the ka-bar mark1, ontario knives gen 2(and the models tast look almost like the usmc kabar), and also some smith and wesson knives have the same handle design

  • I just gat a KA-BAR and its amazing!! That thing is indestructible!!

  • That's a good knife to have with you in the trenches!

  • @Tegulicious it wasnt used in the trenches, it was used by the marines in the pacific in world war 2

  • @freakykevlar It's a good knife to have with you at war! Is that a more accurate statement?

  • @Tegulicious it is

  • looks like alot of knife.

  • now this, is a knife review, tired of fucking kids who havent even gone through puberty doing reviews of knives just saying the price and showing you the fucking box it comes in

  • @Timespartan111 Amen to that brother!!!

  • @TheKodiak72 ill tell ya what

  • @Timespartan111 Heard that! Im a young guy so when I'm at school and find someone else into knives they usually take me ona trip through the flea market and china town rather than talking about real knives and actually going out and doing some bush craft and many of them just plain don't have time in the woods :)

  • @icychillgrill3 yep same here im in highschool, i have some friends here who have had time in the woods but there are still nerds who get freaked the fuck out saying ill burn everything down if i even show a piece of flint and steel, wtf. I usally have 2 sets of every knife that isnt in my family hand down collcetion, one for looks, and one for useage, thats

  • @icychillgrill3 only for the kives like those USMC KA-BARS, I only have like 2 of those kinda knives, our family collection that gets handed down every generation is worth like 1-3k I think prob more i have no clue

  • @Timespartan111 Let's face it, 90% of Youtube is rubbish. Unfortunately, you have to sieve through it all the find quality material. Everyone is a knife/gun/bush-craft/outdoor expert, didn't you know?! That's why I haven't put any videos up, as I don't feel I have the right with my limited skills, apart from a review (mostly a demo) of some gear I bought and a video of me camping, which is personal, not tutorial.

  • @bikenutter1 lol

  • how does the knife hold up in cold weather. Will the leather handle stand up to moisture and snow.

  • @xlostcause995 its decent but no the reason that they dont realy issue the leather one is because leather isnt wonderful but they do make a synthetic handled one with a kydex sheeth

  • Too late for me to buy this knife?

  • @JohnReviewer112 Nope, KA-BAR continues to sell this knife, along with differently engraved variants and a serrated version.

  • Great review, thank you for your input, I thoroughly enjoyed the video.

  • what type of wood did you use to make the feather stick?

  • would you recommend the straight or serrated edge version?

  • * Recommend *

  • If I want a hiking/camping/survival type knife...would you reccomend this knife or the Gerber LMF ii? Thanks!

  • @mando515 Neither to be honest, I'd personally recommend you get a fallkniven F1.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • @cornishwrestling The F1 costs three times as much and doesn't give three times the performance. It's a better knife, yes, but not a better value.

  • i have the ka bar with that problem if you just dip your finger in water and put the knife in the sheath foe a while it will stop also has anyone herd of the hele eggn?

  • hey bro how much was your KA-BAR?

  • man my sheath gets destroyed every time i put it back in. anyone else having same problems?

  • i love my uncles kbar that he gave to me from nam.

  • how do you keep from rubbing off the black finish on the blade?

  • @carlyle0229 By keeping it in a draw and not using it.

  • @NaturalBushcraft so either way i will ruin the finish? i thought that if you oil it, then the finish wont come off,

  • @carlyle0229 I removed the coating from the blade, guard and pommel with Jasco paint stripper. That solved the problem for me. :)

  • @whitethronebooks doesnt that make the blade rust? because my old knife (cold steel gi tanto) the coating rubbed off from cutting stuff, and it rusts alot now.

  • I'm a new fan to your channel and videos, i was thinking about purchasing this knife for General Utility and Bushcraft. I already own a couple of KA-BARS (KA-BAR Tanto, KA-BAR Becker B2, KA-BAR FIghting/Utility Knife) and this one takes the cake. I love this knife because my friend constantly lets me use his because he likes my KA-BAR Tanto and i let him use mine. Thanks for the video and i will subscribe!

  • Im pretty new to knives, would you reccomend this for a good knife to take along on camping trips?

  • @sadbutsandman91 No in my personal opinion no, I would recommend something like a Mora.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • @NaturalBushcraft haha ur insane yes i would fucking recomend because the military used this and they had this to survive and fight if it was not a good knife the us military would not use it it is amazing

  • @mrskysquid lol - yeah and in Sweden their military uses the Fallkniven F1 which is much better than the KABAR. - Just because your country's military uses it doesn't make it the best - grow up. I've used both knives extensively on numerous bushcraft/survival projects and can say through experience that the Fallkniven F1 is more of a sturdy, better performing blade. And yes If you offered me a choice in a survival situation between a Mora & a Kabar I'd choose a Mora.

  • @NaturalBushcraft i would tend to disagree- but opinions differ

  • @mikethenascarfan It's no coincidence that your from the U.S. and like the KABAR - I don't mean any offence by this but folk from the U.S. often prefer larger Rambo style survival knives. Personally I find a smaller scandi grind knife a more honed tool that is more manageable and useful to me in bushcraft/survival projects - at the end of the day that's what most important to me in a survival situation is the ability to create other tools. But yes your right opinions differ. Cheers,

    - Ash.

  • @NaturalBushcraft hahah- "large rambo knives"- very true- the ka-bar has its weaknesses no doubt- its hard to conceal- sometimes inconsitent as when wet the leather handle might "expand" a bit. But, you have to admit- this knife is tough as all hell, like you mentioned in the video- you spent 50 bucks on it and it will last you a lifetime- and yes- us americans love us some big ol kun-tuk-eee fri-ed knives-

  • Nice video. Could you recommend a camp/backpack sharpening stone for this tool.

  • Woah, dang! what happened to your hand? I have cats and I dont get cut up that bad =O

  • i dont know if i want the shorter version because this looks like a bloody machete but exellent video

i want a knife that was used by real soldiers.

    and im Australian

  • @QuickThunder123 Not sure if your asking a question or making a statement, but thanks for your comment all the same ;)

    Ash.

  • @NaturalBushcraft sorry if i wasnt clear but i did ask a question :P

which size would you preffer the 7" which is the one you have on the video or the shorter 5"

  • @QuickThunder123 if u want a shorter one look for m9 moddified bayonet

  • guys, i just gotta let ya know, the ka-bar has a decent tang, but its still a rat tail tang. i have bent a couple ka-bars batoning and chopping, LIGHT use survival guys. its mainly a combat blade.

  • i like the music

  • try the peltonen m95,awsome knife 5mm thick blade 1095 high carbon steel, full flat grind and a rubber handle.very good for bushcraft and survival.i like it even better then my fallkniven f1....greetings from holland

  • Thanks a bunch GREAT review

  • I think this review was spot on. "General utility knife" is probably the best description for this knife that I've heard. While it might not do anything perfectly, its best selling point is its versatility. Interesting to hear it called a large knife. Here in the states it's considered mid-sized. Ka-Bar also makes a 5" version. The 7" version is offered with either leather or rubber (kraton) handles, as well as leather or kydex sheath. I own a 5", 7" and its big brother, the 9" bowie.

  • Mactavish?

  • awsome knife have owned 1 since 96,well done on the video you demonstrated various uses for the knife the music goes well too calming suits a nature setting unlike others who play metal or hip-hop while on a camp

  • @LakeErieGhost Thanks :)

  • The Army does not use the Marine Corps KA-BAR. They have their own style, plus the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is only USMC>

  • @baronreidelbach they use the ka bar my dad was in the marines he would know

  • of course is works good its american and america kicks ass!

  • I believe this is the best knife for a combat survival situation.... not only does it perform these functions in the video well.. but it also is used on the barrel of a gun as a bayonet. Very different from the fallkniven f1

  • maybe if the stock was a few mm thicker itd be amazing, but for now its just good

  • Ive heard the handle gets ruined rather quickly.... is this true ??

  • @FactoryForFailuree No.. not true. If it was prone to getting ruined quickly they wouldn't make the handle in that material would they?

I'm not sure how it holds up if people constantly misuse/abuse the knife/handle, soaking it & drying it all the time perhaps?.. Anyone who has seen this care to comment?

  • @NaturalBushcraft the stacked leather handle does get ruined easily if it gets too wet too often. the leather swells and it eventually deteriorates, but this keep in mind this is obviously not a diving knife.

  • @NaturalBushcraft ive heard many good comments about this knife, the only negative one was about the handle. Im gonna be buying this knife online :) thanks for replying to my comment =)

  • @NaturalBushcraft does the handle not wreck your hand over long use?

  • @NaturalBushcraft I carried one of these for eight years of active duty in the Marine Corps. The handles of ours get soaked by rain, chemicals, solvents, and lubricants. Never had a problem. They take a hell of a pounding and last for ever...

  • @taylorcm76 Fair enough, that's good to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience with this knife.

  • @FactoryForFailuree Not in a normal setting. The marines in WWII that used them found that because of constant exposure to water (both salt and fresh, salt esspecially) that it would deteriorate, because the handle was made of leather. Newer models have a rubber handle I believe.

  • @Rossco139 yea they do, i just spent the extra 5 dollars on the new one just to eliminate that problem, thanks for responding to my comment :)

  • @FactoryForFailuree no problem man, :D sorry for the double post v.v I wasn't sure if it had gone through...Did you get the black, green, or tan one?

  • @Rossco139 i got the black one, im gonna get the black tanto one too. Heard some pretty good stuff about that knife too.

  • @FactoryForFailuree the handles never wear out my grandfather has hand one for almost sixty years+ and it was by his side and saved his life once or twice.............................................god bless ka-bar....

  • I used one (my friend's dad was a Sergeant in the Corps during Vietnam) and it has some nice stabbing power my friend

  • This knife is designed for fighting but it still does a pretty good job with the wood :)))

  • Do you think the next gen kabar's are better than the old ones? the new ones are in 440A steel

  • @SpaardaLT, The new ones are decent knives as well my friend has one, and it has held up to a fair amount of abuse. Personally I like the Classic USMC (looks mostly) they are both solid knives. The USMC's can rust but If you take care of them properly they can (and have) make it through a war. As for the Gen 2's they are stainless so they are less prone to rust, but I clean all my knives after use no-mater what so thats not a big plus for me. It really comes down to what you need.

  • It's not a great carver for reason. This knife was designed for utility and combat purposes, not bushcraft. However, I have found out that this knife battons and chops decently. Though, when I spilt and chop wood; I prefer to use an axe or hatchet. It's quicker and easier in my opinion.

  • Should i get this or a Fällkniven F1 ?

  • @chabi3000 In my opinion - The Fällkniven F1

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • @chabi3000 And on my opinion the KA-BAR.

  • @darknuke96 i got the black with plastic handle ka bar fighting knife .. i fucking love it i nearly made love with it

  • @chabi3000 I got the black KA-BAR model 1211 too with the kraton g handle and the black leather sheat.

Man it's is a great knife!

I would like to get the KA-BAR D2 Extreme model 1282 too, it is another great knife!

  • @darknuke96 i got the exactly model except a kydex sheat ...

  • did anyone else go "holy shit a mohawk." at 4:57

  • i made a couple of modifications to my ka-bar

    1. i made a differnt edge but still the smae type

    2. i put a grip tape on the handle to make it more grippyer

    3. i took the back handle guard off so its easyer to choke up on the knife

all the modifications work like a charm, i have the leather sheath for it and im goin to modify it to make it more sturdy

  • WHATS a feather stick

  • @timteddytitan00 Search YouTube for "making a featherstick" and watch the first video that comes up (should be a NaturalBushcraft video).

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • I tend to reserve my Ka-Bar USMC for battoning and on my side where bears roam.

  • Have you scandi-ground the knife yet? If you have would you make an update video on it's performance with the new edge geometry? Thanks.

  • Your Mohawk is crooked

  • NICE MOHAWK / FOHAWK watever you want to call it!!

  • lol all i can say is look at all the cuts on that dudes right hand

  • you can do this with a opinel n13... with only 15€ !!!!

  • @CLOCKWORKORANGE346 Whilst I like Opinels and I like the price, no you can't do everything in this video with the Opinel. I wouldn't recommend battoning with an folding knife.

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • HOLY CRAP!!! IT'S MACTAVISH FROM CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2!

  • @vtrfslayer EPPPIIICCCC

  • @vtrfslayer oh my god it really is Soap
