He has the most bright orange I've seen on a Senegal parrot, he's just beautiful. My half-moon conure does the whispering thing too sometimes, its so sweet, but then he usually yells out something really loud right into my ear immediately after
More like the asshole of the bird world, we had one that would mooch alot. we never in fact fed the bird anywhere else but in his cage he just figured it out. He would also beg to be pet but it was usually a trick to lure your finger closer so he could unleash a surprise attack. Not fun having a bird latch on to you and rip you up. Can opener with wings.
@KrisaurusFlanger Hang in there! It can take a little time to build trust, which makes sense when you think about it. Just keep letting him set the pace and get to know you better when he is ready to trust you more and you'll be there! My little guy is sitting on my knee watching me type this.
@Sofokleousma That does sound really low. My Masti was a rehome. He was 7 years old when I got him and I've now had him another 7. I volunteer with the Phoenix Landing Foundation and the adoption fee for a Senegal is $200 USD.
Your baby is so sweet! My senegal (well, my boyfriend's, really) lets me give him scritches, but every now and then he'll turn and nip (but usually not too hard). I don't think I'm hitting any pin feathers; it might just be a game to him. He's my baby! :)
@Depro900 Senegals tend to be much quieter than most other parrot species - they are very good for people who live in a apartments for that reason. I had a sennie who passed away 6 years ago(I still miss her so much) and she had this two-note call(natural) which wasn't very loud or annoying - she also learned to imitate the phone, the microwave, my cough, my laugh, etc. - they are great mimics.
@dharmabird67 Okay thank you very much i was just confused i might be scooping one of these guys up now although i had my heart set on a blue and gold macaw or a scarlet macaw but they are just to noisy! BUT I LOVE THERE SIZE AND HOW BIG THEY GET!
@Depro900 I would love to get a B&G some day but my living situation just won't allow it!! If you get a hand fed sennie though I am sure you won't regret it - they have so much spunk and personality and are really like big parrots in a small body. I have an IRN and he is cute but very scared of people even though he was hand fed and has been with us for 7 months. I've thought about getting another sennie to keep him company when we are at work(in separate cages).
@Depro900 I have heard that if they are kept in the same cage they may bond to each other and will no longer be tame/friendly with people - also some parrots(including Senegals) are very territorial and try to attack anyone who invades their space - to a parrot their cage is their 'safe zone'. If they are in separate cages they can still talk and interact with each other but each has their own space.
@dharmabird67 there is a chance they could bond to each other but if you make sure they are well socialized you should be ok. Buy from a reputable breeder who hand raises their birds and make sure you spend individual time with them. I have my two senegals caged together and they do just fine. While they perch and sleep together, they are quite affectionate with both myself and my bf and are not aggressive at all. They truly are lovely birds and so intelligent.
My senengal parrot is mean he always bites me.....once he bit me soo hard that he made me bleed but I guess he doesnt understand oh well I still love him!! =]
My mother's friends senegal parrot was horrified of change! If they brought in a new plant or anything he would ignore them then throw himself onto the ground acting like he was dead. It was very funny. He was such a drama queen. :P
Your senegal is so lovely. I notice the he has a lot of red in his chest. I wonder is he a different than the regular ones that have more orange? Or he just developed the red color with age? I apprecited very much if you let me know. Thanks
It depends. I've heard of some instances in which they do, and a lot of instances in which they don't. I have two pionus parrots and my senegal does not get along with them. He leaves them alone for the most part, but there are times when he antagonizes them. In the wild, most African parrot species (like senegals) do flock only in single species flocks. I don't know if that might have anything to do with it.
@Mr291229 Naturally it depends on the individual parrot - but I've lived in a condo (thus had shared walls) with both my pis and senegal in the past. They can be loud at times. I was super conscience of my city's municipal quiet hours, however, and didn't wake up my guys until 7:00am, when quiet hours ended. I worried at times my neighbors could hear them but when I asked the neighbors, they said they hadn't known I had birds - so must not have been bothered.
@Mr291229 I have read that senegal's are the more quiet of the parrots... i just got one a few days ago.. lol actually i wasnt expecting to get a parrot at all a week ago but this old lady couldnt take of hers anymore so i got Pete ... he was silent the first two days because he was shy.. he is starting to come out of his shell and is quiet most of the day... when he does chirp.. he can be quite loud.. actually my dog is scared of him because she hates loud noises lol
TicklePunch: My wife and I have adopted a brown headed parrot (senegal) and a green-cheeked conure. Polar opposites. They don't get along, although I gotta say that the conure is the bully =/
"Tvienti:" That's neat that you have a senegal, but I'd like to point out that brown headed parrots are a complete different species than senegals, though they are both in the Piocephalus group. Very cool video, by the way.
it's funny, my bird has too people it love most: my dad, then me. I really don't see why he likes my dad (dad's not really that nice to him) and he can't get dad he loooves me lol.

@maxpionus nice parrot.
A pet store told me that sells senegal parrots for about 100 euros=150 usd.Is this right? because I heard that are more expensive?

I'm sorry but is this normal for this species of bird to barely make any noise like this? Amazing parrot but i cant believe how quiet it is :/
