Wait, New Zealand doesn't actually have any jet fighters anymore... they cancelled a lease agreement for 28 F-16's and officially scrapped their combat air force altogether. They had like a dozen old A-4's but sold them off too. So, no more jet fighters at all over there...

It's too bad the F-20 Tigershark (highly upgraded single-engine multirole version of the F-5) didn't go into production...I think it would have been a good aircraft for the RNZAF since it could do air defence (including BVR), maritime strike (Mavericks) and hauling bombs.

@ryanlim2002 Half-way there. The UH-1 that the RNZAF operates only has one jet. The two-engine variant didn't come along until the UH-1N "Twin Huey." Canada operated quite a few of them. Maybe the RNZAF will upgrade to something like the Canadians' CH-146 Griffon? Still a hilarious vid.

i also met a united states marine pilot he was a medal of honor winner he served in WWII:he was also at pearl habor when it was bombed the battles were midway, coral sea, iwo jima and he also served in korea and vietanm he died at the age of 97 due to prostate cancer but he did his job and he did it well so fighter pilots are not just assholes like this song would like to have people believe

As someone who flew jets about 30 years ago in the UK I just loved this video and song. So true! When I meet up with my old colleagues for a few beers my wife tells me that we do wave our hands in the air! I have many friends in NZ and go there quite often. Couldn't believe it when the loony left government axed the fighter arm of the RNZAF. If a 9/11 scenario ever happened in NZ the nearest fighters are 4 hrs away in Australia! They forget a governments 1st duty is to protect the population.

Even if the Hornets flew at their top speed, it would still take over an hour. Not to mention the huge amount of fuel that would be required to fly that far at that speed. They would be out of fuel after 15 minutes (max) flying at Mach 1.8. Then they would have to refuel atleast 3 more times to make it. Before posting something, have a read over it, and do some research.

Look at the air victories over Middle east, Falkland, Bosnia, and Iraq. The pilots and a/c that were shot down were not necessarily poorly trained pilots. On the contrary, they were good and courageous. But that doesn't matter much. For any organization, they were willing to comprise a certain number of pilots and a/c to achieve certain objectives. The military's role is to condition the pilots to be able to sacrifice themselves. And biggest human weakness is self indulgence.

I think there's a reason behind the culture and the AF as an organization to support the cockiness in a fighter. It's a war of attrition, most fighter pilots, statistically speaking, would be targets for the few bright ones. Or just targets to delay pace of war. Like a foot soldier, they need to be cocky enough to not fear death and not care the odds. They are the pawns. They need to have blind faith.
