  • A young guy was assaulted by A4E staff two weeks ago. The lad forgot to do something that they asked, and he got a roasting. The woman who roasted him was nasty. I don't wish for anyone to be sacked, but she deserves to be sacked for speaking to 'customers' in that way.

  • @martynblackburn1977 I can believe that the A4e in my town are strict talk down to you even the woman who was like the manager of the place kept going on about how she just got back from a 2 week holiday in the Caribbean me and a few others walked out in disgust and she said i quote you fucking thick dole dossing scumbags and i replied stop talking down to us you fucking idiot they never fount out who said it but it was me i admit it.

  • NOTHINGS CHANGED 2011.

  • Far from just sitting back and accepting the Work Programme people have already come up with ways to fight back - just take a look at The Work Programme Network website.

  • Angus, Wish i could help but I'm not aware of any forums or sites in Australia, just the UK. Perhaps others viewers may have some suggestions?

  • I need some legal help with A4e here in Australia. Any good forums or web sites around to help?

  • A4E ITS A SCAM BEWARE ................

  • If you are forced onto Flexible New Deal or whatever scheme takes over from it don't just accept it.

There are loads of ways to fight back.

For a start, a website that gives loads of information on these schemes and the private companies who run them is called New Deal Scandal. It's also got a useful forum which gives users the chance to discuss their experiences of these Schemes and share ideas and stratergies for fighting back.

  • @graham982 You have no choice but to accept it.

  • Whoops! When I said "eligable for a grand", I meant to say eligable for a GRANT! Sorry for any confusion!

  • officerbe, many on low incomes and benefits can get a free grant to pay for a PC and internet access. Besides, some countries such as Finland regard broadband access as a human rignt. Even Gordon Brown has said that internet access is equivalent to utilities such as gas and electricity!

Now stop posting tired, cliched bullshit and start thinking for once! People such as yourself deserve poor service as I take it you never complain about ppor service, frauce and deception!

  • officerbe/coldstreamer, you complain about jobseekers having internet access yet how many vacancies, courses and general info exists ONLY online. Internet access is increasingly being seen as a human right in some countries such as Finalnd and even this govt has said acces to the web is as important as gas or electricity! I hope you realise those on low incomes and benefits are eligable for a grand to purchase a PC and internet access.

Please do your homework before spouting utter bullshit!

  • officerbe; I'm too busy watching Sky Sports on my 32" widescreen TV to spend time on the internet. What's it like getting up at 6am , do tell?

  • @officerbe

haha. What an ignorant prick. If you don't like your job, then leave it and stop whinging... don't take it out on the unemployed. Yes even peasants like us can use use the internet!

  • I was on New deal in 2008 and they treated us like criminals.all i got fro new deal was a hatred for for them.

  • A4E are a joke!!!

  • a4e are shutting down all over....

  • really?

  • From a very trusting source i found out that A4e has lost it's contract with the government. An advisor i know informed me of this theirself, was even angry about it.

This government contract won't be renewed either, hence the new upcoming FND.

  • They lost the contract in your area, or are you talking about the whole UK?

  • what about new deal as i was told it was scraped and wont be starting again??

  • The quicker a4e is shut down the better.

  • Totally agree, or even nationalised so the givernment could see where taxpayers money is going

  • Channel 4 programe called Benefit Busters starts Thurs 20th August. Yip you guessed it, it's about A4E

  • oaklea trust?................

  • Does anybody know what THE OAKLEA TRUST's relationship is with A4e....i know they are linked but unsurprisingly info is vague.

My meetings with them are optional so if it turns out that that they are working under contract for them then ill just tell them that i dont agree with their company so im pulling out.

  • Very Good News.

A4E are being investigated by the DWP over fraud

Type A4E in google news, Its the Guardian article

  • vienna, a quick question...the Volunteer Centre, what do they do exactly?

It sounds a bit like a voluntary group called Oblong here in Leeds. People in and out of work attend to help out on various projects and / or to learn new skills such as web design, IT, graphic design, arts & crafts and so on.

A few have come from joke training companies such as A4e and BEST. They learn a LOT more at Oblong than they would otherwise.

    Good luck anyhow...

  • Thefrecklepuny

Yes it must be similar, this option just started in April this year. I have an appointment with them this week. I would rather do this than A4E, they are not going to profit from the unemployed and treat all job seekers with respect and dignity.

I have never met anyone who has got a full-time work from A4E, this is a myth and spin from A4E. Anyway let you all know how I get on, so hopefully others will take this Volunteer option.

  • Just been in touch with Volunteer Centre in Edinburgh. Good news they don't tell tales like A4E do to the DWP. The Volunteer Centre has made it clear to the DWP, they are not into stopping peoples Benefits.

  • Vienna73uk: That is good news, hope you get something decent from it. Which you certainly wouldn't have done at A4e. And more importantly the Volunteer Cenre are up front with you - no lies and bullshit.

  • Just been to the High Riggs flee pitt in Edinburgh.

They gave me an option, another A4E or Volunteer Development Scotland. So I took the volunteer option as I know that Emma Harrison won't be making any profits from me.

  • Good luck with the volunteer option. At least they gave you a choice. Last year when Leith jobcentre told me I'd have to got A4e i asked about doing volunarty work as an alternative, they said no.

  • The Volunteer option is a new thing. I suggest folk who have been on A4E try the Volunteer Option instead. Anyway I wouldnt like to be in those A4e rooms in the summer weather, especially the Lothian Rd A4E, lack of air conditioning in those small rooms with 50 - 80 people when the rooms are designed for 8 people in a room.

Will let you know how this Volunteer work goes :-)

  • In stoke we are sent to Juniper. Today I went for my 1st day as part of my 13w course and as soon as I heard what the place wanted of me and wanted to know about me, I got up and left. Tomorrow I was supposed to be going out in the 'work vans' to 'work' for £1.70ph. I have already worked as a labour for 3 years and do not need this 'experience'. All I want is help in finding work, to write a CV and maybe looking to add to my education...

  • instead Im treated like Im employed by a private company as nothing more than slave labour. At Juniper was a motto 'we don't consider this to be unemployment'. I was really optimistic about going to Juniper to help me find work and give me more confidence at interviews and so forth, but in reality this PRIVATE company is receiving to my knowledge £3,200pp for those entering the ND 13w course and with 100 people attaining Juniper just from that one location alone in stoke (there are many more)..

  • They are being given £320,000 (I'd gather tax free?) from the DWP to basically use the unemployed as Free Labour. It's so shocking that I'm thinking about writing to my local MP, New Deal is a SCAM, It doesn't want you to find work, because they are in effect loaning out a free labour force, It's disgusting. It wouldn't surprise me if our MP's and those who back these Private Companies are receiving some sort of finical gain. I do believe there is a huge amount of corruption going on at the DWP

  • I like the Juniper motto. It's outrageous what these private companies are getting paid. Just tell them you want help with interview skills, and updating your CV. After all, they supposed to be helping you not the other way round. If you MP is not a New Labour loyalist it might be contacting them, always worth a try.

  • He is New Labour through and through, I looked at his voting record at the commons, been there for 8 years had voted less than 10 times, and all of them in favour of the EU (who backs this new benefit system btw -notice eu flag on every form you fill in at the jobby) I am now changing from ETF to the voluntry sector, though work placements are hard to come by, anyhow prefer be locked in a room all day than be out with chavs who believe they are actually working for a grand total of £66 per week

  • Sorry to hear you MP's a labour loyalist, his voting record is shocking. Funny how work placements are hard to come by, you'd have thought since it's free labour many business would jump on the bandwagon plus the PR value of them being able to say they helping the unemployed. Good luck with getting something better from the voluntary sector.

  • Secondly you say "A4e, olike most things works for those who want it to". Sorry, but I see this from A4e apolgists all the time. It should be thier new tagline under their logo! Such a cop out!

Saying this removes blame from A4e and throws it right back at clients such as myself a few years ago.

When at A4e I made efforts to arrange work placements (off my own back), arranged interviews and even helped others with CV's and PC skills. When I complained about A4e, I was told I was out of order!

  • Alicia, your missing the point. A4e should not be holding peoples hands the whole time, sure.

However, it should be helping people to help themselves with proper accredited courses and real training. My and many other's beef with A4e is the fraud that A4e commits on a daily basis. Principally the non-existent courses in many A4e premises.

How does this help anyone other than A4e?

  • Alicia: For someone aged 24, you seem to know a lot.. Why don't you tell us all just how much A4e does get paid a client get a job? . You must think all the people who get send to A4e are school leavers, they /re not. You get people in their 60s being sent to A4e, and in one case a man who was 1 year off getting a company pension. Many of the people who comment on this video, like me, have all been to A4e so we know what we are talking about.

  • As i said: see the Radio 5 Donal McIntyre Investigates programme about A4e if you want the truth about what really goes on at A4e.

  • What do you think New Labour having been doing since 1997, they've been implementing Thatcherite economic poiicies, which is why the rich get richer and the poor have get poorer under Labour. We will have workfare in October with the introduction of the Flexible New Deal. I doubt the poor would notice much difference between the Tories and the neo Tories (Labour).

  • Alicia: you must work for A4e by the sounds of. In case you don't you mught wnat to listen to the Radio 5 Donal McIntyre Investigates programme about A4e broadcast in April. They received 100s of complaints about A4e for all over the UK. A4e is nothing more than a rip-off of taxpaters money and Emma Harrison should be in jail for fraud

  • I think all people who have attended A4E should write to BBC Panarama

I think its about time Tax Payers know whats really going on with this social scam A4E

  • a4E is an abuse to the human spirit and all things related to learning and the betterment of its clients its system in one of emotional abuse and implemented by creating fear, with in the context of using the loss of benefits as a fear tactic, if you don't sit down and shut up and fall in line, with the rest of the broken spirited humans BEING they are crating. We are humans and they are human rights being broken here with A4e- Make a stand and stand tall for you are A human being.

  • Looks like an A4e aplogist jsoulman is defending A4e to the hilt on the 4e a 'Waste of Taxpayers Money' video. He claims to dislike what A4e does and Emma Harrison but calls all A4e clients lazy. He is an A4e tool! He says he works with / for A4e so is going to defend their fraudulant practices!

    Please respond to his craparguments,,,

    /watch?v=SHh2OqJ-ApQ

  • i AM CONSTANTLY WRITING AND E-MAILING EMPLOYERS FOR ANY WORK BUT IN THE PRESENT RECESSION YOU DON'T HEAR ANYTHING BACK AS MORE PEOPLE ARE LOSING JOBS THAN GETTING THEM AT THE TIME OF WRITING THERE ARE 2000,000 UNEMPLOYED AND IT'S SET TO GROW!!

  • I know someone who turned up to this thing - and said it was a joke - "made his excuses and left". But if you can, you should stay there, because this course is designed to make you sign off (nothing else!). If you walk away, you just give them what they want. You'll be another positive succses stat - and A4e will get paid 2k, because you walked away. Its all about saving them money. Instead go, and complain like hell if your getting rubbish training. Some people have recorded these courses.

  • Ive got to do one of these courses next week dread it i think im going to do it for 2 weeks and drop out as ill just get some money of my mom lol as im 22 so not too old like many others who dont have there families for support but i just wonder what the hell would it be like when im 40-50yrs ols looking for work and they place you on one of these courses?Labour govewrment have been a shambles and im sure under conservatives we couldnt do any worse!!

  • Oologitechnewbieo0- As bad as the Labour system is the Tories will be even worse. They have already made it clear they do not want to listen to welfare claimants. The Tories are already drawing up plans for 52 week programmes! They see welfare claimants as numbers and are jumping on populist ignorance about us. The only party I have seen show some compassion and understanding is the Lib Dems.

  • It makes me mad to see this shet, these people should refuse to attend. Let them apply sanction if they dare, you can claim hardship payment. Then you can appeal against the sanction at tribunal. Bring the system to its knees, make A4e unworkable

  • secretly inspect a4e and other so called training providers undercover and see what goes on there, i thought people were exagerating about theses places untill i went to one, the clients are treated like children and often insulted, ive seen peoples confidence plumet at theses places, god knows what damage have been done to them.

  • n7nzr8- Your'e absolutely right. As opposed to encoraging claimants to find work it actually can be soul-destroying. In my experience of Sencia (I believe it is an equivalent to A4e) staff are patronizing and aren't really prepared to listen to clients complaints. Clients are forced to do unpaid work (yes we can leave one placement but another will come up), facilities are poor and a lot of the programme is time filling. I have reluctantly pulled out.

  • re;my previous comment this is uncanny !

every office must be the bloody same!!!

the hull office is exactly like this.and the staff also visably look down their noses at

some of the clients! in fact 2 of the female

staff were talking about whether a client was on drugs or not!!!!! what the hell has that got to do with them i know this as they were saying it loud enough for others to hear bloody disgusting & a lack of respect for the clients.CLIENTS what a bloody patronising term that is!

  • ive been to a4e. its a disgusting place in every way. shut them down.

  • thefrecklepuny;-re the government not listening to your concerns they are politicians and will only hear what they want to hear!!! there should be a mass walkout at every A4e office in the country the dole couldn't stop everyone's money they would be tied up with the paperwork for months.for gods sake someone arrange it and see what happens i think it

would make the tv and the papers.

  • There was a mass walk-out back in the youthtraining schemes in the '80s. But we were classed as workers and being payed only £23.00 a week.

  • tardistuner- its tempting but my concern would be those brave individuals may be left on their own whilst others (concerned at the consequences) hold back. Not every client would have the confidence to do it. I set up a facebook group 'Generalising the Unemployed' and I brought up my complaints to staff after which time I left. I think it might be more effective to a) Support the Lib Dems (I believe they are prepared to listen to claimants) or get into the political system and influence change.

  • I have just finnished this day of writing a 2 week new deal gateway to work programe and hated every minute of it,I didnt learn any new skills which i didnt already know,My worry now is that i could be put in there again on a 13 week new deal scheme,Anyone done this yet.

  • Also, as for writing to the govt. I'm not sure they'd take much notice. I had words with Tony McNulty, Employment Secretary on BBC Radio 5 Live a while ago. He dismissed my experiences completely! "I travel all over the country and this is not what I experience" he said to many tens of thousands of radio listeners!

    He was either:

    A) Lying

    B) Hearing only what he wants to

    C) Being shown only what others wish to show him

The best way to expose A4e is with a hidden camera or a mass walk out!

  • well, if people who are unemployed push for a stop to the new deal it is easy for politicans to dismiss it as an attempt by people who dont want to work to get out of doing some training.

Instead, you could try attacking them on them classing new deal claiments as not unemployed? This, the public would back you on, and the government would have a hard time defending. If you said "the public have a right to see people claiming benefits are unemployed in stats!". That might hurt new deal a lot.

  • its a very sensitive issue with the public that the real unemployment figures are much higher, and that the gov are putting people on courses to hide the truth. New Deal, I belive, is partly about that. So, you saying "sure, we'll do new deal, but only if we are formally classed as unemployed during our time on the course, and since we are not being trained for any specific job role, we are not in training." The public would back that.

  • The only problem Tardisturner is that A4e want to get into all areas of business. Money lending, finacil advice, prisons, legal advice and more!

I'm sure you've seen ROBOCOP. Remember the scene where an OCP suite says "Good business is where you find it". Well, that's A4e's philosophy right there!

A4e want to get as many of their corrupt, sticky fingers into as many pies as possible!

  • It is exactly like this at the hull office!! the staff at A4e are bone idle and are not interested in finding people work!! A4e should have their contract withdrawn. That would make the owner emma harrison sit up and take notice!! as she wouldn't make any money,if the government inspected A4e properly THEY WOULD lose the contract!! THEY ARE USELESS LET'S ALL WRITE TO THE GOVERNMENT AND TELL THEM.

  • Yeap! I'm doing one at the moment. It makes me feel sad seeing, how the staff deal with people! Why is this company is allowed to steal taxpayers money? ( Google ' Watching A4e ' ).

ARBEIT MACHT FREI, in Britian! of all places!?

  • Excellent eye opener

  • Well done! The more we can expose A4e and their like, the better! I have seen this online already! What it does show is that I and others have been right about A4e all along!

    The fact that:

    A) This experience in Manchester echoes my experience in Leeds shows A4e are rotten to the middle! This ia a nationwide problem within the whole company.

    B) Look at the date, early 2008, less than a year old! My experience with A4e was 5 years ago. This shows things have gotten no better, if not worse!
