You know alot of people tell me that, my reply is I already work as a network administrator for multiple companies. And I constantly get work. So you can say all you want. I worked hard to get were I am, just to have some person on the internet act like a smart ass. Break from tradition sometimes you go further.

No I did it to study to learn how to do this as a job. Im too lazy to go to college so I learn on my own. I like server racks because I have a plan in the future to put all of computers in there for the whole home to access, but thats the future. In the mean while I cant do virtualization because good servers are expensive. Right now Im using about 16 of the 24 jacks on the ip switch, its for future mate. I buy to have for a long time

What's wrong with 'mac' geeks? Mac Server is really nice and quieter compared to other 19" racks. I'm running Mac,Win7, and FreeBSD but I don't run 19" racks in my room anymore because of noise,power,& lack of bandwidth. Rather, real geeks would send their servers to co-location dc, which is what i did. Instead, I have 2 Sun Cobalt Qube 3 in my room that runs quiet and sips little power. PS: Google employees run mac.

Its my bed room, and I got use to the noise a while back, I have a air filter near the servers with my window open 90% of the year. So far, not one of my servers had any downtime. Its as reliable as I can afford.

Maybe, but telling from that statement its completely false, but in reality Machintosh is a dif thing. They use similar components,etc. But its completely different, macs were born from ppc based (which doesnt use ascii), until recently. I dont recall what date they switched to intel based processors, but they still use a different type of kernel which is unix based, and if you compare all the unix based oses then you see that it fails. Linux is one unix based kernel.

There are hundreds of distros of linux, a good portion of them are good. Now compare hardware. Its like a hammer that is from hardened steel and mac is from aluminum.

windows 03, is my favorite of the windows line of server o.s., I still prefer to use linux only. So go with debian, its a bit harder but worth the trouble.

I would suggest buying a server rack from craigslist, I bought 2 server racks, one I use for audio which is a 24u server rack, the blue one is a 72u server rack which costed me 200 on craigslist, plus transporting it was "horrible".

Haha, I was like you. I bought 150 bucks worth of aluminum and gave up on it. Now I have a whole bunch of bent metal with no need. Trust me on this. These things are worth the hassle on quality wise. both of those server racks can handle alot of weight, if your up for the project, I can send you some links to help you out.

Well, first of all it's not a server rack. It's a telco rack. Really, you need to find something with a vented front & rear door.

Next, you could add P.D.U.'s (power distribution units), & a KVM switch.

#1, it is a server rack, telco racks are generally 2 rails and they balance all the weight to the middle, the pdu is hidden if you should know, and the kvm switch is there too...... Congrats, for not noticing and I garentee you its classified as a server rack.
