starts at the corner of Hawkins Dr, and the strip. goes by the wig n pen, vine...old chicago, heartland inn, and ends at hardees. that was the day (probably within the hour) it broke over the tracks behind the hotel.
When Hurricane Katrina was flooded no one gave a shit and just blamed all those black people for not being able to leave. No such treatment of white people caught in the flood.
Actually, Geroge Bush hasn't done much to help these people either. So Kanye West was half right when he said George Bush doesn't care about black people. George Bush apprently doesn't care about white people either. FEMA doesn't really care about anyone who isn't wealthy.
Im from Burlington, Iowa and I lived here for 14 years and I wasn't able to watch the flood here but now I did and the water is still increasing. I heard that they are closing Burlington's and Fort Madison's bridges and they are temporarly closing I80. Some of the water is getting up to the tracks as well as everywhere else and there alot of people trying to sand up the front lines but its not working that well. I went down there again today to take some video and pictures.
I live off of Mormon Trek, which is right down the road on the other side of Hardees. We don't have water yet but with this water raising so fast, I don't know how long we will be dry.
My sister and her family live in Coralville. My sister just had a baby yesterday. They are trying to leave the hospital so they can evacuate and come stay with me in Wisconsin. IT's just getting worse they say. Don't be surprised to hear people evacuating by order of Iowa government.
I'm from Cedar Rapids myself, I was there in 1993, and I lived along the Wapsi during the flood before that, lost everything we owned. You will bounce back...granted it does take time. My BFF in C.R. told me that Coralville has already surpassed 1993 and the waters are already past the plaque that was left to commemorate the water level at the dam or spillway or wherever it was.
It looks like they're on a lake and that these businesses are just plopped on top of the lake. I think we take advantage that we normally can just drive down the strip and go to any of those places. It seems unreal.
Sad stuff, but Iowa City/Coralville = Iowa River...CR and CF = Cedar River. Won't have to worry about that water from CR. From the Rez...different story.
This is very sad to see but I was born and raised in Iowa and I know that despite all the hard times the pp of Iowa will shine again.People from the mid west pull together in a special way. You see how they help each other now in this time of need and will continue to see it.This is what makes me proud to say where I am from.God Bless Everyone!
no duh, is it gonna be worse than '93 every river (except maybe 1 or 2) that was effected in '93 is many feet or will be feet over the record. not to mention the reservoir spillway MIGHT break record too.
cr is just is worse.. n its only going to hit ic soon... be prepared... its only 3 blocks away from me... n it rising... be safe all! love n hugs stubby
cedar rapids.. is just as bad... its only 3 blocks from my apartment.. the whole downtown is flooded out... ic.. is going to get this.. it wont crest till this sat here... my friends have lost everything.. people have died.. its been really bad.. water restrictions.. evacs.. hang in there guys... loves n hugs from stubby
Wow, I drove the strip to work this afternoon at 1 and their only two problems were rocky shore dr still at the intersection/under the bridge and 1st Ave in Coralville. I had no idea it was this bad by the evening, and then the water breached the railroad tracks at 9pm.. wow. I live up across from Carver Hawkeye, at the top of the hill.. I hope it doesn't go up that far. What a shame :(
at 2:36 is that the heartland inn hotel

Amazing footage, where you freaking out or what? And to think it took them 5 more hours before they evacuated Normandy drive.

Cedar Rapids: Stop wasting water, this is a serious problem! please conserve water
Based on current usage, Cedar Rapids will be out of water in 3-4 days. That includes water used to fight fires.
Officials are checking on wells now that the water is receding. Currently the city is operating on only one well, 25% capacity.
