One of my all-time favorite songs from my all-time favorite Streisand film. I could never figure out why this movie wasn't a huge hit. Barbra was never lovelier, never in better voice or never so appealing. A true classic!
I love "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever"!!!! But I have a question, when I first saw the movie on television in the 1960's there was a scene at the end of the movie where they are in Virginia in a beautiful house high on a hill (in the future) - but it's not on the DVD. Anyone know what happened to that scene?
@Atlavocat I'm surprised to hear that because when they play in on TCM it has that scene. I'll have to check it out, but until then, if you're curious enough, I'm sure someone will answer your question at the TCM website.
@Atlavocat I saw the movie when it was first released in theaters. The only thing that was in it about Virginia was her final trance sequence with Chabot, and she describes their future. There was no scene as you describe in the film when I saw it. Would have been interesting, though! Of course, it might have been cut shortly after release, to allow more showings per day!
Barbra never looked better on film than in this film. By their third collaboration, Harry Stradling really knew how to capture Barbra's beauty. Sadly he passed away after OWL, their fourth and last film together.
I used to laugh at people who liked Streisand when I was a kid. Until one day I got to listen to this song from a friend's ipod. I was so impressed by her voice that I decided to give her a chance and since I have been a fan.
When I compare the crap on the radio to songs like this I am very happy real composer/singers like her are still among us.
Lovely song, and beautiful time-lapse photography. Streisand is in glorious voice here. The hair (wig), makeup and wardrobe look wonderful on her; this was the classic Barbra look of the sixties. Was this filmed in Exposition Park in LA?
in my opinion the best babs song in any of her films. vincente minelli is a genius, a great director working with great raw talent results in fantastic results. barbra's best film.
I absolutely fell in love with this film--and her--when I saw in on TV around 1976. I was 12 then and didn't start smoking until college, but I can see the seed planted here.
even in her 70th year, she still has that star quality!
