  • Sounds very smooth, good job on the restoration.

  • cheers. the other vid really does show what bearings should sound like - when compared with this one.

  • Hey mate how many rinses does this machine have? And also how come it desn't have these infamous distributions that all the other hotpoints have?

  • I am afraid I cant remember the rinse thing, although i do remember that the cool down is lovely and high - jut over half way up the door!

The reason for the lack of Hotpoint distribution is because it aint a Hotpoint! Its actually a Zanussi S-series machine, that was commissioned by Hotpoint and sold to fill a gap in their machine lineup.

  • Does this machine actually distribute at all on any of the programs?

  • blimey - what a twit i am. Just dawned on me what you were getting at! No - no distribute whatsoever at all on this one. Its fitted with an induction motor and old induction motors only had two speed settings - basically wash and spin - one speed or the other. The machine just tumbles at wash speed and then will jump straight into spin, with no distribute.

  • Ok :). Can I also ask you why a lot of old washers will have the wash and rinse cycle but at the end you have to set it to a seperate spin cycle?

  • Was there a dryer the same style?

  • There was a purple liberator dryer, but it was to the GEC Hotpoint design and not a zanussi clone, like the 1826.

  • hi there. glad you like the machine - very retro look about it, with a bit more charecter than todays machines.

bearings are now repaired - new vids soon!

  • I remember these models well but never got to see one in action. I didn't realise they had such a low spin speed, or were there faster spin models available?

  • as far as the Hotpoint versions were concerned this, the 1826, was the fastest at 520rpm. The 1823 cold fill only machine was slower at 380rpm!

  • has the drum always been that colour or is the something else

  • Not the drum - the door bowl is actually purple plastic! All hotpoint liberators were styled like this from 1973 to 1979. very rare machines - be they the original hotpoints, or the zanussi versions.

  • Beatiful... what year is?

  • November 1976!

the machine has since been repaired - I will upload some more vids of it soon.

It is a great machine - so 70s with the purple styling.

  • Cool machine. Our Hotpoint WM53 has just died. This brings back great memories!
