  • First, I have to say that Radiohead's version is my absolute favorite song of all time. I was not a huge fan of this cover, but nice try. It's not horrible, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the original. I'm not sure why so many people are up in arms about it though. If I could play music, I would record my own version of this song too. @TheSim1derful You're entitled to your opinion, but to me Radiohead's version absolutely bursts with emotion.

  • I love Radiohead and Vampire Weekend immensely. My favorite band of all time is Radiohead however. This version is a prefect cover though because they weren't trying to "out-do" or "one-up" radiohead, they were just giving their own spice to the flavor. Good job Vampire Weekend.

  • not a fan of this version

  • FRICKIN' HIGH OFF OF THIS SONG!

  • THIS IS FUCKING HORRIBLE, THESE FUCKING HIPSTER PIECES OF SHIT AND THEIR ENCOURAGING FANS NEED TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT COOL ENOUGH TO RUIN A CLASSIC LIKE THIS

  • I liked this better than the original, interestingly enough. Obviously Radiohead get full cred since they WROTE the song, but Vampire Weekend made it more enjoyable, IMO. The original just didn't inspire any emotion in me.

  • for all of you made uncomfortable by the awkward drum beats, listen to Cousins by Vamp. it's what they do.

  • I liked that they tried to make it their own, and I think some good ideas went into this, particularly the flutes playing the ghost choir part. I still like the original better, i think the drums in this version kind of ruined it for me.

  • I love both Radiohead and Vampire Weekend, and i think this is an interesting cover. They obviously covered it because they liked the song, otherwise why would they want to sing it?! And i seriously doubt they're trying to outdo Radiohead! At the end of the day, i do prefer the original, for what it is. But i don't dislike this version.

  • Just to add my opinion as a Radiohead fan: I didn't like it. Beginning was off time and awkward. Middle drum solo equally off time and awkward. It's not that I'm biased but musically, Radiohead is much better. I don't dislike VW, I just think that it's rhythmically awkward.

  • @SX55555blueredgreen I didn't like it beiether, but it's not off time xD

  • @SX55555blueredgreen go take a drum lesson

  • @chatterboxch but not only one

  • They completely destroyed a classic. They sucked all of the dreary soul of the original and made it sound like something on the Lion King soundtrack.

  • @bombast07 They re-created a classic, it's called creativity, you might not have it but it actually exists. Stop being so close-minded, this is a tribute, not a competition, show some respect.

PS. Lion King Soundtrack is great

  • I quite liked until the build-up to the climax. The drum beat from 2:22- 2:50 just seemed awkward and felt as though it did not belong.

  • I've never been much of a VW fan, and I started watching this video assuming it would be really bad. But it's realllly not, it's reallly good

  • This dominates the original.

  • What song?

  • the original sounded like they were getting out of bed, the start of the escape.

this one sounds like they're on the road.

  • Stop hopping on the 'lets hate hipsters' bandwagon and just enjoy the music.

  • I miss the fuzzy bass. That just makes this song for me. Nice cover, though. Good job, VW!

  • @chrissalyn81 I agree, the bass that starts at like 2:30 in the original is amazing. Good cover though

  • why does the drummer always look like he has just killed someone?

  • Comment removed

  • Love both bands, thought this was really good. quit getting so pissed off about it, its just a rendition. either you like it or you diddn't, leave it at that and don't be a douche about it.

  • Covers are homages. Duh. No one is trying to outdo Radiohead. That would just be silly.

  • Thom yorke would be proud at vampire weekend

  • @Yasaa4 he wouldnt be proud of your grammar lol. or should i say "off you're grammer"

  • what would thom yorke think about this??

  • @ellioteaston93 Thom Yorke thought that "I think ur a contra" was one of the best songs of 2010 actually. i'm sure he liked this a lot actually.

  • This has a cool feel to it. Also it is interesting how people on here think that this is an attempt to one-up Radiohead. Is that what you would have in mind while covering another band's song? I doubt it.

  • The woodwinds are fucking epic. Also the vocal harmonies are pretty amazing. I like the original, but it's pretty different.

  • Also one of the only songs i like by Vampire Weekend!!

  • MY prefered version, don't playa hate ^_^

  • Can everyone just calm the fuck down? Vampire Weekend is paying tribute to Radiohead, saying that Radiohead's cool. It's something nice from one band to another and you guys turned it into an arguement. Just calm down or shut up and let us listen to music in peace. Okay?

  • One great band covers another great band. Result? Brilliance

  • This version is better then radiohead's idc what any of ya say

  • @PollyLickums you speak the truth

  • @dirkadirka217 *slow building clap*

  • Hey radiohead fanboys... Contra was so much better than the ambiant filler called "king of limbs".

  • @NinjaJedi Hey, VW fangirls: we respect your opinions and don't want to stir up arguments for the sake of shitposting because, really, who does that?

  • @LionheartMachinima

Insecure Radiohead fanboys with inferiority complexes that's who.

Besides, I'm stating a critically agreed upon fact, you're the one stirring up arguments.

  • @NinjaJedi Me? Christ, stir up shit won't you. 3/10. You got me to reply.

  • @LionheartMachinima

But, you're the one who responded, as well as stirring shit up for the sake of shitposting.

I wonder, Do Radiohead fans lack self identity? They always seem to project as your doing, and tend to take criticism of their favorite band personally.

  • I bet this made Thom smile! in a oh God what are these hipster clowns playing at kind of way.

  • the first time i listened to it, i ofcourse thought it was crap but then i came back to it 6 months later and its not that bad.

  • I am sorry, but that cover was not good at all. It just wasn't.

  • I love it when bands cover a song and make it completely their own, this is a perfect example <3

  • This sucks. Ruined the song.

  • good cover

  • coming from a long time radiohead fan and someone who doesn't own any vampire weekend albums, i think it's a pretty good cover, probably one of the best I've heard. I wish they would have saved the percussion rattle thing they do at 2:23 until the climax at 2:53, but. just sayin'.

  • excellent job.

  • These youtube comments are making my penis soft

  • LOL this sucks SO HARD.

  • @farizzal FARAAZ!!!!!

  • @Arastusamad encounter #3! :D

  • I'm a Vampire Weekend and Radiohead fan and I really enjoy this, I'm having trouble deciding which is better

  • My face when people are getting upset over a band paying tribute to another band they respect.

  • love this version... radioheads best song was karma police or paranoid android

  • way to ruin a good song

  • This sucks. Hard. Real hard.

  • fuck vampire weekennd

  • I was gonna slag this off, until I got to about 2:00 in and started to like it. The Radiohead version is my favourite song of all time though.

  • vampire weekend

  • Love the original, love this song. Better that Vamp took this and made it theirs than to try to re-do Radiohead. You simply don't re-do Radiohead.

  • WANNA...BEEESSSS....CUTE!!!!!! YOUR SSSSSOOOOOO CCCCCUUUUUTTTTEEEEE. DADYSS LIL SQIRTS....4 SURE.....

  • @garyleeguthery LOL wtf did you just say?

  • I liked both versions of this. When I heard the radiohead version at the end of Romeo and Juliet, I just stared at the screen until then end of the song, not even taking in any of the credits.

  • God. I Love Radiohead They're my favorite band(behind Modest Mouse) ! And I Love Vampire Weekend(To an extent) I'm not being a douche, but this just sucks. Vampire Weekend our awesome, but this just sucks.

  • i normally like covers of radiohead songs. i appreciate that vampire weekend likes radiohead enough to cover them but this cover really... i just didn't like it. oh well, to each his own.

  • now now everyone! to each his own, every opinion is as equally valid as the next, but especially Dirkadirka217's :P. mine? VW didn't just copy the song like some covers do, they recreated it. Radioheads is more solemn while VW's has more of an urgency to it. I think both are very good!

  • I'm not one of "those" Radiohead fans, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to cover this song.

  • i'm a huge radiohead fan (my username?) I consider this version more listenable than the OK Computer version. I've seen Radiohead perform it three times now, and I just don't really dig the song. I think Vampire Weekend, whom I don't know very well, does it better.

  • vampire weekened kicked radioheads ass...just saying

  • This is one RH cover i fully approve of. I am a diehard RH fan and this is Amazing!

  • i love vampire weekend, i love radiohead, and this version is pretty weak. to each is own.

  • take a cover as this. A high school band or even a professional wind symphony like the Chicago Wind Symphony playing Beethoven's Ode to joy, people dont criticize them for ruining Beethovens music, it was just them playing it, So this cover is just Vampire Weekend playing Radioheads music out of respect and loving the music i love radiohead and im an uptight fan, but fuck those people to dumb to realize they are just playing another fucking song

  • I love the arguments guys. I'll admit, this song is one of my favorite of all time, and this cover does nothing for me. But overcritical douches need to chill with your pretentious comments. While I don't like the song very much, I can appreciate that the original impacted them enough that they want to redo it in their own way. It's just music man. (not very good music =p)

  • I feel bad for bands like vampire weekend. This stupid hipster phase has labeled good indie music into "hipster" bands. Hipster is not a music genre. And I'm sure as hell am not a hipster either, but I love this band, way before these hipsters showed up and ruined their credibility.

  • @marshmelloooww PROUD TO BE A HIPSTER BITCH!!!!!!!!!!:p

  • @chikaalex1 Whatever helps you sleep at night.

  • @dirkadirka217 Kings of leon beats both

  • @Pagra101 lol

  • @dirkadirka217 I also like both version there is just one thing i don't agree with you.

Radiohead made a complete defferent song (but it's still a cover)

Vampire took radioheadsong and gave it a more poppy style, which is less 'creative'.

The second reason why i prefer radioheads version above this one is cause of the reason it's made of.

Romeo and Julliette, the complicate relation etc. R'head version just makes it so emotional. The song just fits with the music.Got this less with the V version

  • @dirkadirka217

Um, chopin didn't write this song... It sounds slightly similar at the start but you can't say he wrote it

  • @dirkadirka217 You're a fucking idiot.

  • @dirkadirka217 You're a fucking idiot. Oh, and it is still the original. It was just inspired by Chopin.

  • @dirkadirka217 While the song shares a chromatic descending bassline and the first three notes of the melody with Chopin's prelude, "Exit Music" is not in any way a copy nor a case of "let's add lyrics to a classical melody." Unlike, say, "A Fifth of Beethoven."

  • been objective to me is not a good cover

  • it's like Radiohead for Abercrombie and Fitch stores... :) not bad however...

  • Comment removed

  • I don't hate it, but... the original gives me chills (in a good way) while this version does nothing for me whatsoever.

  • as a radiohead fans.... i agree that this is not the exit music that we were expecting. but hell ya, think in this way, they are just trying to cover it, in their style. take it as an alternative guys. if u dont like this, just leave. i quite appreciate their effort and music and nt just turn a deaf ear to other kinds of music.

  • How could any band in their right mind try to change and reinterpret this beautiful masterpiece which is Radiohead's original version of this song???

  • Now...Precisely what the fuck is this?

  • This doesn't work at all...

  • Totally unnecessary ...

All record of this needs to be erased from every disc, hard drive and so forth. What gall. What garbage.

  • @FungusMossGnosis

    fucking hipster

  • @abaofifsz

Far from it. I am sneered at most every day by 'hipster' posers. I simply don't turn a deaf ear to a band's atrocious mistakes when they make them. All bands make them from time to time.

  • shameful

  • This is an absolute disgrace.

  • Oh god, something that's not expected from either band. My head might explode because it's different. It's a pretty aight cover, I go out of my way to listen to it time to time.

  • I really wanted to like this, really I did. But as soon as that beat kicked in I realised that wasnt going to happen.

  • Coming from an ardent Radiohead fan, I actually quite liked this. I'm not sure why people are saying it's so utterly terrible. Perhaps in comparison to the original it's somewhat marginal, but I don't suspect covers are made to be critiqued against the original so much as being an alternate take on an original piece. That being said, I could never love another version of Exit Music as much I love Radiohead's... It's too bloody brilliant.

  • Cover or not, this is terrible. VW music are usually so tightly constructed, what the heck happened here? And also, Exit Music is simply too sad, too somber to be remade into a dance track. Just no. No no no.

  • It is okay, wouldn't listen to it again. Definitely is not comparable to the original, they're not even in the same universe. Nothing can parallel Radiohead. NOTHING

  • This is vomit.

  • I think you guys should try not to think of this as a cover of Radiohead, but rather a stand alone song.

Once I started thinking of it like that, it instantly liked it a lot more.

  • @0lynam0 100% agree !

  • this cover should be perceived as a crime

  • Why? I was impartial to Vampire Weekend before this but they've just tainted themselves in the eyes of this individual by destroying one of the most emotionally charged songs modern rock has to offer.

  • I don't know much about Vampire Weekend as a band, so they may have redeemed themselves elsewere; but why they decided to have an awful semi techno beat behind this & a Chris Martin impersonator on vocals I will never know...

  • whats with the beat its awful? I like vampire weekend but this song just isnt for them

  • P M S L !!!!!!!

  • the cover isn't terrible, it's just the vocals that don't really suit it...at all

  • Despite all of the narrow-minded bigots who have their heads shoved too far up their asses and are hell-bent on comparing everything back to the original artist, I find this cover lovely.

  • @rawwwrrr1

Radiohead = not the best band out there, really.

Vampire Weekend apologists = not the brightest bulbs in the store.

  • MY EARS! THEY BLEED!

  • 361 people likes tetris

  • ummmm

  • This was my first experience of VW way back when, it's still a good cover. Covers that try to replicate the original completely are boring and show no invention. This is good.

  • Ezra's voice just isn't right for the song and the instrumentation is just off.

  • I'm not an uptight radiohead fan, but this cover is just horrible. The instrumentals don't fit the vocals at all, really messed up.

  • reminds me of tetris haha

    not too bad.

  • i like it....fuck you....you are all pregnant with radio head's cancer babies

  • What a terrible cover...

  • You gotta have balls to try to seriously cover this song so fair play! Even though it isn't a patch on radioheads version x

  • I like this version better :)_

  • It's a good attempt. If only they didn't ruin the climax of the song it would've been amazing.

  • Fair play to them they tried to do something a bit different with it, but it sounds terrible....

  • come one guys its not that horrible. Its not as good as the original, but its not horrid.

  • this kind of offends me. nice try, but ...nahhhh.

  • EPIC FAIL.

  • @infamous20s You saying "Epic Fail" is an Epic Fail.

  • @EminusJoshicus hahahaa chill dude. I love Vampire Weekend, but this cover is just impossible, compared to radiohead's version. no offense. I really think Vampire Weekend is great, but this song is just not for em.

  • props to VW for having a good taste in music but..... yea its terrible

  • check the scala & kolacny brothers cover of this.

  • As much as I like Vampire Weekend, I must say the original shits all over this.

  • There is a reason it's called a cover people.

  • Oh my..

  • I'm a massive Radiohead fan, and I believe the original is untouchable. However, this isn't bad at all, they've done their own take on it, an enjoyable listen.

It really grates me when people say things are too good to be covered. Pop music has a rich history of bands covering each other. The Beatles, The Stones etc covered lots of classics. What if we'd have said the same thing about Dylan songs? We'd be missing out on some brilliant tracks from messrs Hendrix, McGuinn, Ferry n co.

  • @JoeShez

Only thing is, those covers were actually good.

  • Get over it

If you don't like don't watch it and complain on here

That's like spam, just dislike it. Geezus :P!

  • This song has a haunting beautiful quality that Vampire Weekend failed to capture. Do not like. I think I can actually say this is one of the worst Radiohead covers I've heard. Hurts my soul.

Sorry Vampire Weekend. Stick to your thing. Your thing is good. But it's not good for Radiohead.

  • @TorridHero Did you hear Peter Gabriel's cover of Street Spirit? My spine crawls just thinking about it. Yeesh.

  • Dislike :(

  • decent cover, but it has nothing on the original.

  • seriously, this version is as good. Especially after "pack... and get dressed" part

  • i can dig it

  • Wow, really? I guess I have to make the opposite comment to everyone here. I'm not a huge Vampire Weekend fan, am a big Radiohead fan, and I think this song is better than the original. Guess I'm the minority.

  • this cover makes me vomit

  • There should be a law against bands covering radiohead. Not hating on Vampire weekend, I just mean any band in the world, should not be allowed to cover a radiohead song.

  • haha the climax was butcherreddd...not angry just sayin, the rest is decent tho, sorta

  • I reckon Bieber should have a go, show em how its done(vampire weekend)!

  • im a big vampire weekend fan...but what is this?!?!?! it had its moments...but they should stick to being original...sounds better

  • Vampire Weekend is an amazing band.

    Radiohead is better.

This is a really good... try.

    The original is better.

    Cool?

  • They love the original just as much as everyone on here. Its nice to hear their take on it. You cant fault them for paying homage to Radiohead.

  • Good way to destroy a song!!! just awful!!

  • Ew.

  • eh. this is bad, it sounds like a weird techno remix of the song most of the time, and the drummer had a seizure during the best part of the song.

  • I only have liked a few tunes by Vampire Weekend. And I love this Radiohead song. This is a really tremendous cover. Very good.

  • the beauty of the radiohead version is the how perfectly it builds up to that one perfect explosion of beauty. what the fuck was with the drums at this build up part? sounded like he fell on the drums a buncha times

  • If someone attempts to cover perfect song, it always ends up as FAIL

  • Radiohead = the greatest band on the planet

uptight Radiohead fans = the biggest douchebags on the planet

  • Love it.<3
