The Republicans who did well Tuesday seem to have been the ones who distanced themselves from the likes of Palin and the tea-baggers. Candidates who tried to tap into Obamaphobia didn't do very well. The corpse of American conservatism continues to twitch.
"Consumer demand wont pick up until unemployment eases and people become less cautious on spending, Chief Executive Officer Bill Weldon said today on a conference call. J&J last month reported third-quarter sales that were less than analysts had expected, citing slowing demand for consumer products and generic competition to top-selling medicines, the antipsychotic Risperdal and epilepsy drug Topamax. "
so a mean hateful name calling dem lost in NJ no surprise dems wont support awful people.
NY embrassed the hate tea party folks so the dems won there.
Virginia has ALWAYS voted against the President they elected they ALWAYS vote in the Opposite party during the Mid Term Elections.they have done this for the past NINE elections that I know of. so Verginia is No Surprise at all! so real lesson learned dems stay nice and repubs drop tea party folks.
Whats Ronald Reagan republican? Do they mean more spending on wasteful weapons systems and blowing the deficit to all time highs while cutting taxes? because thats what GW Bush did and America does not need another Bush!!!
The deficit is high because of the stimulus, the stimulus includes $billions of much needed infrastructure work that the Bush admin ignored.
But first the reason why everyone focuses on Obama's Budget and not those of Bush is the fact Obama included was spending in the budget, Bush used supplementary to pay for the wars, the Iraq war alone has cost $2Trillion a total waste compared to Obama's spending to fix America.
No the reason they focused on Obama's budget is because it quadrupled the deficit. I'm not sure why you don't understand that? This in unsustainable and will lead tot he same type of inflation that Carter brought us with double digit interest rates and higher unemployment.
But the reason for the deficit is explained by the need to stimulate the economy, the Govt HAS to spend to kick start the economy or it will stagnate.
Obama had no choice, if the Govt had not stepped in there would be more ppl out of work, the stimulus saved the economy. economic growth is now +3.5% meaning it was a short U recession when financial experts said it might be L.
If GW Bush had not spent $2Trillion on Iraq, the stimulus could have been paid in cash not on credit.
But there are reports that package has not stimulated the economy. In fact there is some slight of hand effort to claim that the stimulus package has saved jobs but no way to point out which ones.
I think you will also agree that recent reports show that consumers are not buying and the only reason for 3.5% last month were due to cash for clunkers programs. That was just artificial interference in the economy. USA today reported that the GOV is giving GM another 2.6 to 5.4 billion.
Those reports are false, the fact is after the crash in 2008 the economy seized up, banks consolidated their finances and no one had the means to spend, the Govt stepped in injected cash to get things moving, cash for clunkers saved thousands of jobs in industry & retail.
Why are you not more upset with the Iraq war? if GW Bush had set $1Trillion on fire it would have been better for the country then invading Iraq, the Iraq war was won by Iran it is now wholly controlled by the Mullahs in Tehran
Once again you are absolutely wrong headlines int he last 21 hours Bloomberg -"J&J fire 700 as Consumer Spending Shrinks" Wall Street Journal -"Consumer Spending Falls, fueling concerns about recovery". Just because you feel better about something doesn't mean it is better. There are reports that each clunker cost the taxpayer 24k and that as a result of the program used car prices have risen 16% putting cheap reliable transportation out reach for low income families.
JJ is restructuring and its firing 7% of workforce about 8000 across all its companies globally, JJ blames competition in its drug sales rather then the economic downturn.
A dip in spending is not a problem because the recovery is in full swing, the worst is over.
I don't mind spending 24k per car, the US spent 64k per Iraqi to "spread freedom" in Iraq (pop.30million).
Dont you prefer tax money spent on fellow citizens instead of repairing bombed bridges in Iraq?
You have on happy ears my friend here is the opening statement from the Bloomberg report
"Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Johnson & Johnson, the worlds largest health-products company, will fire more than 7,000 workers as consumers cut spending on items ranging from drugs to skin care amid the global recession."
It may feel better to you but reality doesn't support your position.
Strange because the statement from JJ indicate the layoffs as part of a corporate strategy that will benefit the company by 2011, they also say most layoffs will be in management not your normal economic downturn firings.
The almost 0% change in its share price also shows Wall St sees it as long term rather then kneejerk.
He has no business commenting on Limbaugh. You wanna talk about double standard what about the non stop attacks on Sarah Palin from the like of David Letterman. Should someone from the lib side denounce that?
Of course he should comment on something said by a political commentator.. Letterman is a comedian. Palin is a walking joke. What Limbaugh said was not meant as a joke, but another disgusting comparison. No wonder the GOP is dying.
Limbaugh is the de facto leader of the Republican party, while Letterman is just a late night commentator. There is a difference. Without the support of Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Palin, Hoffman wouldn't even be here today. Hoffman should at least have a comment on what his boss said.
an elitist is someone who is a millionaire and doesn't care about the little ppl only about wall street

And it does need another Obama/Carter either. Obama quadrupled the deficit in his first three months as president.
