@supersingingfreak He was self anointing. They bite and lick something they like the smell of and then make a foam in their mouth and then they spread it on their quills.

No one knows the reason. Some say it is to camouflage their scent. Others say they do it to smell good.

I don't really know why they do it, but when they taste something they like, they turn and lick their back weird like that.

From my knowledge i learnt that it was because they hate smells that are not their own . . so they lick their back and spit right a way . . to help keep the different smell off. . . .

not sure about that, I've always heard it is caused when they LIKE the taste or smell of something... I don't know why they would hate the taste of pineapple and other 'treats' that they love to eat.
