  • not really my kind of car but can get the police interceptor from auto auctions sometimes. have the police engine and stuff.

  • Well my das lease will be up in may in his 2009 Audi A5 well he is thinking of looking for american cars he wants to look and test drvie at the all new 2012 Chrsyler 300C SRT8 with the new haimi 6.4 V8 in it.

  • @Corvette1658 Those are Canadian built too....lol

  • That alternator looks awfully tough to change!!

  • well technically Canada is in North America so you would still be correct

  • @WVfarm3rboy nope....not correct

  • I would have never expected any of you guys to buy a Ford product, haha. But I'm sure the Keykeeper got a really good price on the car so I can't blame him :)

  • well nice car that he bought and I can now stop the panic after seeing the naughtiac is safe and sound but keykeeper is brave letting you drive uxwbill cuz you might get in trouble with such a big trunk( at the thrift store) since the trunk is big enough to load a few computers LoL

  • @blazerlover25 Oh, we couldn't let the Naughtiac go that easily. (It's also running once again now, though there is still work to do.)

As to the rest of your comment..."Hi. I'm uxwbill and I took half of the Goodwill store home with me." :-D

  • I enjoy these car related clips you make. All of your videos are very helpful aswell, thanks for making them. Keep up the great work

  • wow im surprised my 2010 dodge charger 3.5 has 250hp and this 2010 grand marquis is only 224 hp

  • @jerswift2002 The Grand Marquis will have more torque though, making it a more powerful motor.

  • @acadianfever ah, you are wrong and right the grand marquis does have 25 more ft lbs of tourqe but the marquis weighs 330lbs more, considering i have a 3.5l and the marqius has a v8 4.6l ,the charger will fly pass the marquis. plus what looks better the truth :)

  • @jerswift2002 To head this off at the pass, and to demonstrate my belief in empirical evidence...the only way to know will be to try it. No, I'm not offering nor do I plan to...though if you know someone who has both...or can get them together...

As it is, the Mercury isn't geared for fast takeoff, which would help it.

  • @jerswift2002 I don't own either car, don't know all the facts. but I come across a web site that shows these cars to be nearly identical in acceleration, 8.9 secs for 0-60. As for what looks better, that's a very subjective point. They are both very nice looking cars.

  • Nice car. We have always had a Crown V or Grand M since 1983. Never any major problems. Driving large cars has always been enjoyable for me. Hard to explain why, but they make driving a honda seem like punishment (stiff ride, twitchy handling, etc. they all have to drive like sports cars now. Whoopee.) I just wish that Ford had better utilized interior space. The interiors on these cars aren't near as roomy as they could be if better designed.

  • Well these Ford "Panther" platform cars are still technically American made, just not U.S.American made, Canada and Mexico are also in "America" North America anyway so you were only partially incorrect. I didn't realize that anyone still made full frame cars up until 2010. I thought maybe the early 90s saw the last of them. Tell the Keykeeper that I always seem to end up with white cars, they always seem to be the cheapest in price.

  • Nice ride! Practically brand new! Keykeeper must have some bucks!

  • I own a a few GM B bodies (LT1 etc) I driven many 4.6's ford fullsizers too. I have to say the fords stop and handle a bit better than the 91-96 caprice. They are big, But they have a different feel to them when you compare the two. However with the 2003 update, They DEFINITELY feel more snappy than even a 94-6 Impala SS

  • My mom drives a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and it's a good car.

    -Marshall

  • What happened to the keykeepers white spaceship?

  • @kahnartist25 It's still here. A bearing in a pulley locked up and shredded one of the two serpentine belts.

  • @uxwbill good editing at 5.50, Its quite funny because a few years ago you had a few cars and now the keykeeper has a few cars, btw just out of interest are you guys gona put the ocfb back in the garage or leave it outside for the time being? as usual keep up the awesome video making

  • @MOTERHEAD69 It'll go back into the garage at some point, hopefully soon. I just need it out of the way to wire the last garage door opener (still not done yet).

  • @uxwbill too bad there wasn't any footage of that like there was with our good old BBPOJ lol

  • @uxwbill I remember, you said something about that in garage door wiring video.

  • 9 mpg?

  • @mitteey That is not even close...this car will get around 20 MPG with ease and a little more if you work at it. Even my dad's old Cadillac (425CI V8, three speed automatic) will get 15-16 MPG or slightly better.

  • @uxwbill thats good then i had a 88 towncar and it got 9 mpg in the city 5 liter v8

  • The location of the alternator has saved my butt a couple of times while driving a limo. It takes literally 5 mins to change one out if you've happened to burn one out on a job. I thank ford VERY much for that!

  • @theimaginator16 I'm sure that's true! It does look easy to change, and I'd imagine the alternator in a limousine to be under a much greater load than normal.

  • @uxwbill They sure are with all of the lighting and special effects, the upgraded stereo systems, and the accessories like fog machines and tv's and dvd players and such. That is why they use heavy duty high amperage alternators.

  • Which auto manufacturer's dealership does he work for now

  • @tubageek2006 It's a Ford dealer.

  • I sold cars in 1992-93 at a Lincoln Mercury dealer, sold the heck out of those Grand Marquis, it was the best selling car in Florida at the time, old people would stand in line to buy them

  • The acceleration seemed to be reasonable enough. I gather that it's a heavy vehicle which would help give it that nice ride you're talking about. Feeding it probably will be nice and expensive.

  • @TheMrbum It's not a race car by anyone's definition. Engine power is sufficient, and it's quick if you put your foot in it. Fuel economy is better than one might expect...20-25 miles per gallon is not unheard of from these cars.

  • old grandpa car !!!

  • Just a couple months ago, Ford stopped production of the Crown Vic. Closing their plant here in Canada. Dodge is now the main supplier of Police vehicles. Most being built right here in Canada. A little something to be proud of.

  • i dont like how they used one belt to turn all alternator, power steering, water pump, and ac. the ac should be on its own belt or the water pump. but over all even though im not a ford fan i do like big V8 RWD Sedans, they are real Cars and drive very nice and that thing looks comfortable

  • @joeyf504327 That's how pretty much any modern car does it, and believe me, the serpentine belt system is a HUGE improvement over the old multiple V-belt systems that many cars used...serpentine belts don't require retensioning and periodic adjustment.

There is only one real advantage to a multi-belt system, and that is what happens when a belt fails. It will only stop some accessories from working instead of everything.

  • @uxwbill yeah they are a big improvement as both of our boats have them and many still do, only boats made within the last 10 or so years have serpentine belts, the rest have v belts, our 2007 has high capacity front and rear ac and it has a big serpentine belt to its self, probably a good thing as it brings down the idle below 500 rpm when it kicks in, even my dads 2005 kia amanti has two belts but i guess technology has made the belts even stronger over time, but i still do prefer two

  • @joeyf504327 EDIT sorry both of our boats have v-belts, not serpentine, the v-belts go bad after about 5 or 6 years and need to replaced as they start to fall apart, in fact on one of them the top half of the belt came right off the belt and then the lower half shredded its self to bits :P

  • What field do u work in and another quick question how much was that camera because I plan on gettiing another hd camcorder to replace mine

  • @TheCarlover97 I work on computer equipment and do "other stuff".

I got a good deal on this camcorder by purchasing it secondhand. That is about all I can say. If you buy a used camcorder, make sure the seller is trustworthy. I don't know what the fair market value of this camera is.

  • You look good in it!

  • @dosman01302 Thanks! I do need to lose plenty of weight. Hopefully I can...I have to do something.

  • Oh and by the way, I've ridden in one of these. The back seat isn't comfortable, but it's a nice car.

  • I am not a fan of many american made cars, although there are a few nice ones. I usually like imports. Mitsubishi is my favorite, although today most of their cars are trucks, SUVs, and electrics. They cancelled the Eclipse, which is my favorite car. But, 20 years is long enough to make a car. I also like Honda a lot. Anyway yeah, nice car.

  • That is a very nice car, it's too bad that they are no longer being produced.

  • dosent look like much head room in there looks like your head is hitting ceiling, and if he can afford a 2010 why a ford? my brother has one and it keeps blowing spark plugs.

  • @jerswift2002 It's got more headroom than a lot of "modern cars". The Keykeeper asked me not to adjust his seat, so I did not. Had I adjusted the seat, I would have been a lot more comfortable than I was.

  • I consider cars made in Canada to be American made. My Monte Carlo is made in Canada too. Who would guess that a car that was the icon of NASCAR would actually be made outside of the USA?! Kind of ironic. The oddest thing of all is my GF's Toyota Camry was actually made in the USA while my "American" car was made in Canada. HA.The irony makes me laugh.

  • wow sweet car! practically brand new. american cruiser classic.

  • hey uxwbill wat is the limit to amunt of cars you can have there?? becuase we dont want the city to say u have to manny cars again ahd have to get rid of some!! although u could hide some in the garage now lol

  • @partyfriek I don't know that there is a hard limit.

I think someone in the city administration had it on their mind to cause us trouble. Fortunately, they are no longer in office. I also strongly suspect that they thought we would just roll over and not fight them on it, which was not true.

  • @partyfriek I live outside of a villiage in NY and the laws extended to where I live they passed a law starting jan 1 2112 where there can be no cars without up to date plates , no cars up on blocks , no more that 3 cars in village driveways and a few other stupid laws. I have had the building inspector on my ass over 15 times A big business owner bought the property behind mine and he want every thing perfect .I am now disabled

so I have 4 tractors I was working on now they want them moved.

  • @ncrdisabled Do you have any friends or neighbors who could hang on to your tractors for a while? Could you sell a few of them?

I'd hate to see you go through what I did. It's not a lot of fun to constantly wonder about having problems with the stuff on your property. I really wish whoever had complained would have just come to me about it. There was no reason to hide.

  • Ford has really dropped the ball over the last decade. There's no reason at all that their fleet sales should have stopped on the Panther platform cars, or any other sales. I think it's just bad marketing, combined with not-so-great designs on some of their other vehicle lineup(F-150, hang your head). I hate to say it, but I don't think Ford's going to be around much longer.

  • @Jerkwad152 I'm a little surprised to hear you say that. Why do you feel that way, if I may ask?

I'm on the other side of the fence, as I feel Ford is making some of the best cars they have in a long time. I'm more impressed with what they are doing than GM (seemingly repeating the old mistake of selling the same car under different names) and Chrysler (waiting for something interesting in the Fiat venture).

That said, I do think it was a big mistake to dump the Panther platform...

  • @uxwbill

My last comment might have been a bit harsh. The 1997-2003 model F-150, I believe, scored so badly on the 40mph crash test against the Silverado, Ram and Tundra, that the safety board wouldn't even give it a rating. The engine ended up where the driver's lap would have been. As for the Grand Marquis, my uncle had a 1998 and a 2006 model. He racked up 200,000 miles on the 1998 model before selling it. There wasn't anything wrong with it, he just felt like trading up.

  • @uxwbill

    (continued)

Unfortunately, the 2006 model gets about 5mpg less than the 1998 did, and has a tendency to rev like crazy every now and then when you first start it. Probably a throttle bypass valve. I can't really fault the current lineup of F-150's in comparison to anyone else's truck. They all look big, cheap and bland to me anyway =D. There doesn't seem to be quite the emphasis on quality that there used to be. I wouldn't trust them to run thirty years like the old ones.

  • nice car

  • Those big cars are great and I still to this day think the front engine/rear wheel drive layout is the best. Front wheel drive cars are just too hard to work on. Give me simple any day. It was a sad day when they quit making these cars. As for myself, I'm looking for a good 1998 thru 2002 Infiniti Q45 which has the same basic design. Now there is a luxurious ride.

  • wheres all the traffic, it's rush hour. Broverly love is one thing you cannot beat.

  • @TheEPROM9 Out here in the sticks, we don't have a rush hour. During harvest and planting seasons, though, there will often be "twelve cars waiting to pass a tractor". :-)

  • No "Holy Macaroni"? :D

Something tells me that if I ever get to your part of the USA, The Keykeeper is going to have me "test drive" more than just the BBPOJ.

  • @weasel2htm It's not quite as...inspiring...as the Pontiac when you get on it. (That was the Keykeeper's first comment, in fact...'my Pontiac is faster'...)

Yes, if you ever do make it up this way, you'll get the grand tour!

  • A pimp mobile!!!!!!

  • uxwbill, it being a 2010 and under 25k, i assume its still under ford's 3/36 Bumper to Bumper ?

  • @mikeluscher159 It is fully covered under Ford's limited warranty and I believe it has an extended warranty from Ford as well.

  • lol Bill.........'"On the Disco Riiiiiiddddde ,yeah"...lol

  • @Foolishpleazure I always try to put at least one fun thing in my videos.

This was mainly intended for a little radio demonstration. I wasn't paying that much attention to the lyrics, if you can believe it!

The stereo separation in this car is very wide and pronounced, much more so than the already impressive presentation given off by the 88 and 89 Buicks.

  • I have traction control on my 98 Deville and find it extremely annoying to the point where I pulled its fuse. It will kick in when you're accelerating into a turn like pulling out of a side street onto a main road and there happens to be a bit of dirt, gravel or wetness there. So that's no good when you need to go quickly in front of oncoming traffic. It's worthless in deep snow too. I love road sofas though. The KK should enjoy that Merc.

  • Not much of a

Ford guy myself, but looks like a nice ride non the less. I bought myself an '84 Eldorado Biarritz a few weeks ago, love those big body american cars, even if mine is a front driver...

  • @pearsonba350 Yeah? If you have that 4100 engine you won't like the car very long.

  • @BonhommeRichard91 Surely it would not have survived this long if it were so equipped?

  • @uxwbill Having owned two 87 Deville's with that engine I would be surprised if that 84 still had it's original engine. Swapping to a more reliable engine was difficult because of the 4100 electronics that only worked with 4100's. The 4.5 and 4.9 were more reliable. The 4.6 Northstar evolved from all three of those engines. The 4.6 in my 98 Deville has just under 270k miles at present with absolutely no blow-by.

  • nice car. I have 2001 Grand Marquis Limited edition with only 80 thousand miles on its. and like you said its a road sofa

  • That looks like a smashing car bill :-)

I can see why the keykeeper likes it, the bodywork looks mint and apart from the aluminium rust on the engine front the engine looks sweet :-)

  • Also, have you heard of the Mercury Marauder. That would be something for the Keykeeper to look into if he wants to turn that Grand Marquis into a street sleeper.

  • @tubageek2006 Oh yes, I've heard of (and seen!) the Mercury Marauder. I don't know how well it actually performs, but it sure *looks* like a serious car.

  • @uxwbill well I know that a Marauder held up very well against my stepbrother's 1999 F-150 Lightning which had just had $12,000 put into building the motor. They are quite the mean little machine

  • Well, I would love to be able to afford that fine car. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Grand Marquis. Speaking from experience, these cars do not age well. I drive a 1990, My stepbrother drives a 1996, and his mom drives a 2003. Mine has 80,000 miles, his has 195,000 and hers has 120,000 miles on it. The drivetrain will last forever, but be gentle with the rest of the car when it gets some age on it. They become exceedingly fragile.

  • @tubageek2006 I'm pretty sure the Keykeeper will baby this car. He wanted a nice example of a Grand Marquis (or--perhaps more accurately--a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor) before they get hard to find.

I still see a ton of these on the road, but I'm sure the clock is running.

  • bit new but at least its RWD.

  • @V8Jagnut Every little bit helps. :-) This car's underlying platform dates from the late 70s and its outer sheet metal hasn't changed much since the early 1990s (around 1992 I believe).

  • Nice car, when his other car is going, you should have a race!

    How is it on gas?

Don't you think it is a bit of a older person car, something your mom or dad would drive, lol

  • @redneckbryon We're not really sure on fuel economy yet. It has hovered around 20MPG so far.

No, I don't think it is an old person's car. Then again, like many of the people who have the interests I do, it seems that I act older than I actually am.

  • Great Video Bill! Love the Panther body cars. May they rest in peace!

  • @strumem90 I can't help but think that fleet buyers may put enough pressure on Ford that something like the Panther platform might just reappear in the future. I read somewhere that police departments actually bought *spares* to keep in their inventory for the future!

  • @uxwbill you would be correct. I live in Ontario, about 45 minutes form the factory. The OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) bought 65 spare 2011 cars and have them stored in a facility in Toronto. The newer Dodge Charger and FWD Impala cruisers, just aren't holding up next to the Crowns. I guess only time will tell if the new Ford Interceptor will keep Fords name alive in the fleet market. The new 2011/12 Caprice cars look nice too, RWD with V8's, but made in Australia is making them very pricey

  • @strumem90 I'd believe it! Today's cars are technological wonders for sure, but sometimes you just want "simple" and "tough" over fancy. The way police cars get used, and the things they're subjected to...simpler is better.

  • nice car my friends mom has one thats loaded with more options than ive ever seen lol i think its like a 05 nice cars to ride in personally i myself would want one of the boxy 1980's ones but still very nice car

  • I lovedmy Mark 8 how it handled and drove, lik any othere rear wheel drive vehicle, it sucked in snow even with traction control.

  • Also, as a side note, it is made in Canada, BUT was completely designed in the USA.

The St. Thomas Assembly Plant and Bowling Green Assembly Plant are the two of few vehicle plants where the workers love what they build and enjoy going to work every day. It's unfortunate Ford took their jobs away, not only a bunch of money they could've had.

The last Panther, a 2012 Crown Victoria LOADED TO THE BRIM SIGNED BY EVERY WORKER, went to Saudi Arabia. It belongs in a museum as an American icon.

  • @sonic3243 with Canadian signatures lol

  • @sonic3243 The ending of "Panther" car production was truly the end of an era in many ways. Ford is said to have produced many vehicles at the St. Thomas plant, from the Pinto on up to these cars. While I have heard that the plant closed, I've heard nothing about what may happen next or if the plant could reopen.

Hopefully whoever got that car will know what they have and take good care of it. The Panther platform's end is going to leave a void, that's for sure...

  • That's the FIRST thing I did when I got my Jimmy, is flush the worthless Dex-cool out and replace it with godd oh antifreeze.

  • @tommee10533 I'm not totally convinced that Dex-Cool is worthless...just different and subject to some teething problems in the first products that used it.

I've heard of people switching to the "old style" green coolant, though I haven't done that here.

  • Will you sign my petition to keep the cars being made and restore hundreds---if not thousands, of jobs? I'm not getting anywhere :( About 60 signers right now :'(

    ipetitions(dot)com/petition/stap2012plus

These cars are absolutely fantastic. And, they are environmentally friendly when used with E85 and even better than a Prius, Volt, or Leaf when converted to CNG. CNG is cleaner, doesn't lower performance, and keeps the car running longer. about $.78 a gallon in some places!!!!

    nice vid!

  • @sonic3243 Your link appears to be bad, and I'm not going to endorse anything that I saw in a Youtube comment without further research.

I don't believe there is anything can be done to make Ford Motor Company resume production of this car style. If the massive fleet buyer market couldn't do it, I can't imagine what would. It was claimed that these cars no longer met current safety requirements and I'm sure CAFE factored in as well, right or wrong.

  • so how did the keykeeper feel about u drivin his new car and how did he feel drvin your truck for the first time in awhile

  • @partyfriek He was fine with it. As you can see, we traded some snide remarks about each other's cars.

  • Technically Canada is apart of the north "American" continent, so technically you were right

    They were "American" made.

  • Canada is still AMERICAN. America is a continent. Not a country.

on a side note, my mom drives a '98 Mercury Grand Marquis. it's a great car. 125K miles.

  • @KrankieV2 It's really a matter of phrasing when it all comes down to the bottom line, and I'm guilty of "lazy phrasing" in the video. I felt the need to set the record straight as best I could.

  • @KrankieV2 NORTH America is a Continent, not just America. You would be surprised how many Canadians are offended by people saying we live in "America", or "North America." I am not one of them, as I appreciate our southern neighbors. But we are NOT American, we are CANADIAN! You need to do some research buddy...Cheers!

  • @strumem90 research my ass, i know where you're coming from but i don't think that the US should use the term American" the way they do. it's the United States OF America, not just America- which means that the United States is, therefore, within, America. Whether or not it means North America or all of the Americas, that's up for debate. But by definition North, Central, and South America are naturally one continent. that's why they call it Eurasia now instead of Europe and Asia-

  • @strumem90 (2/2) It's one land mass, so one continent by definition. Before the Canal was dug, North, Central, and South America were one land mass, one continent. The only logical thing to call that one continent is America.

If the US didn't use the term "American" to describe their people (personally I believe they shouldn't) then Canadians would have no reason to be offended by being called American, as they shouldn't.

    I am from USA

Don't call me "buddy". I don't even know you.

  • @KrankieV2 ok...Troll? United States of America...yes....the 52 United States of America.... which does not include Canada nor Mexico, which all 3 are in what is referred to as North America. America, the center most country, a country of its own, Canada, a different country, which shares very little in common with the US. We have our own currency, we use the Metric system, we have our own Government, we have our own boarders. We are NOT Americans in any way, shape or form. Thanks....Tom

  • @strumem90 I'm not trolling and you completely missed the point. It's the UNITED STATES OF America, not just "America".

the continent is (north) America... technically it was all originally 1 continent which...

ah whatever forget it i'm obviously wasting my time trying to explain this to you

i know you're not American in the sense meaning 'from the USA) but you are in the sense that you're from the continent of N. America. anyone with half a brain knows the US and Canada are diff.

  • @KrankieV2 Getting quite a crack from it. North America has 23 countries. 3 of which are our known neighbors, Canada, USA & Mexico. Yes, it is referred to as the "Americas" but not in the seance that you are trying to say. The point of argument here is you said "Canada is still AMERICAN. America is a continent. Not a country." Inferring that the car was built on USA (American) soil, not Canadian. The cars say " Built in Canada", Not "The Continent of America". It is really insulting....

  • @strumem90, @KrankieV2 ...it was never my intention to insult or offend anyone by issuing the clarification that I did in this video. In fact, I wanted to be sure that I gave everyone credit where it is due. Why is this stuff always so darn complicated?

  • @uxwbill not offended by you Bill...not one bit. Loved the video! I am just at logger heads with @KrankieV2 ...non of this is pointed at you :) Cheers!

  • @KrankieV2 Getting quite a crack from it. North America has 23 countries. 3 of which are our known neighbors, Canada, USA & Mexico. • @strumem90 I think you mean 50 States, not 52........lol

  • @Foolishpleazure oh whatever lol.....don't bust me I am not American lol

  • is it faster than the boniville??

  • @partyfriek The Bonneville is clearly faster off the line. I do think the Mercury would catch it.

Maybe one day we might find out. (I'm not advocating or encouraging anyone to break the law in their part of the world.)

  • I drove a 93 Grand Marquis which I was working on for my aunt one day. It may not be the fastest or best handling car, but god is it comfortable.

  • I agree them are nice cars . it got nice sound to it as well

  • Canada is part of North America. You would have been incorrect had you said it was US MADE. That said, most people living here in the states believe that "North America" means or should mean only the United States, when it clearly does not. In fact, North America includes Mexico as well.

  • @WhoSaidTyler I would say that a lot of people conveniently abbreviate "The United States of America" to simply "America"...whether right or wrong. I could have improved the phrasing to start with, but I felt the need to clarify things, all the while knowing that there might be an issue with that as well. It wasn't a perfect solution, and I could not reshoot the introduction.

  • Nice! It's good to see an engine put in the car the right way once in a while. That V8 symbol first appeared on Ford's first V8 car in 1932. As for the American made comment at the beginning, Canadian is American made in my book, just not made in USA. Henry Ford used Detroit's proximity to Ontario to his advantage. Many of the parts in the Model T were made in Canada. Definitely sad this is the end of a great era in car manufacturing.

  • i need to send him a KPBS supporter license plate frame

  • @deanbhill Why is that?

  • What about his BBPOJ?

  • @The18Jake C'mon...the answer is less than one minute into the video!

  • @uxwbill Haha! sorry! Just assumed he finally found a reason to come to be a ford fan! Just kidding. I saw his video about it, but since the new youtube update my subs box has been wacky and not showing yours or his videos,It's crazy.

  • @The18Jake We like all kinds of vehicles, both foreign and domestic. And we slag on them all about equally..."typical GM piece of crap", "at least Ford circled the problem", "it's a Chrysler, what did you expect" and random other pejoratives for various imports...

It seems that as of late, view counts and subscriptions aren't always working right. And let's not get started on why I haven't gotten notification of all comments for *months* now.

  • I have a Ford OEM Visteon CD-6 radio with built-in 6-disc CD changer and AM Stereo which would fit perfectly into this car, although it was a cheap thrift store find, so I still need to test and make sure it actually works!

  • Wow, analog dash in a Panther! Odd that the radio doesn't have RDS, my friend's 2000 has it. My other friend's 96 Crown Vic had the air ride fail on him.. thanks to the dealer putting it up on a lift without turning off the air ride! I never cared for the floaty ride and the over boosted steering wheel you can turn with your pinky. I know Ford put in a firmer suspension in later years, hopefully that improved road feel. Tough cars though, one of the few that are "cop proof" (unlike Bonnevilles)

  • @NJRoadfan I'm not sure these later models had a digital cluster option like the older ones. At least I've never seen a digital cluster on a 2006 or newer.

I don't know why they didn't program the radio to decode RDS...the cassette, cassette/CD and six disc changer models use the same display and do decode it.

This car is a bit on the "wallowing" side, but I wouldn't say it handles badly for what it is.

  • i did reamber your grandfathers 2006 mercury grand marquis but keykeeper told me that he does not have it anymore now he has a chevy impala.

  • @Corvette1658 I was stunned when my grandfather traded his Grand Marquis in for the Impala. The Grand Marquis seems like a much nicer car compared to the Impala (and I say that as someone who thinks the Impala is a fine car in its own way).

My grandfather has said a few times that he regrets trading his old car in. He actually went to see if he could get it back, and was going to give it to us. Why I do not know, but we would have loved to have it!

  • Gotta love the 4.6L V8. A few years ago I traded in my old 97 T-Bird. It had 236K on it and still ran like new. I bought it with 54K and ran it for 8 years and 8 round trips from NH to FL(1500mi. one way) and never had a problem. The only thing I had to do to the engine was replace the intake manifold around 180K as it started leaking coolant. That T-Bird was the most reliable car I've ever owned. Way better then the numerous Toyotas, Mazdas, and SAABs I've owned.

  • How fast can it go?

  • @stidwell420 We don't know. Yet.

  • Reminds me of my freind's mercury murader

  • Haha! the brother of a crown victoria.

  • my 88 Lincoln Town Car was made in the USA

  • Right after 5:51 your voice changed so much it almost sounded like a different person!

  • @raymangold22 Strange that it would have--I don't notice anything more than a slight change on this end. However, my voice does range fairly widely in pitch and modulation...enough so that people have told me I sound *exactly* like my mother at times!

  • @uxwbill Oh you could have some fun with that! You could hide around the house and say to various family relatives in your mom's voice (whilst being hidden): "alright, we're going to have brussel sprouts and spinach for supper!"

  • lol my dad rented one of those, he said he felt like a retired cop driving it, nice cars, but just not my dads style,

  • I'd very jealous of this car. My friend has a 2002 Grand Marquis with 312,000 miles on it, original transmission and engine. Simply phenomenal cars. I'd love to buy one, but for commuting 40+ miles a day, I feel that a buick lesabre (1997-1999) is more in line with my needs. That car will last forever!

  • He could live in that car!

  • Does it have a LSD?

  • @EthanCommins888 Not to my knowledge. The traction control system would behave similarly, however.

  • @uxwbill Ok. they do exist as an option on the p71 Crown vic, i just wasent sure if they were on the mercury lol..

  • I'm glad the police forces where I live still use these kind of cars for police interceptors and general cruisers, although they do actually use Dodge Chargers for chases and such.

  • hmmm my mustang GT has the same 4.6 except with a few more horses!

  • They are good vehicles to drive. I love the ride in the consumer (non police) versions.

I haven't drove one of the newer consumer Ford Panther platform vehicles. I bet there' s huge difference.

  • no offense, but that's a granny car.

  • @andruha11234 nah the '88 Buick LeSabre would be a granny car LOL!!

  • @andruha11234 I wonder how many "little racers" are going to wonder why it just blew their doors off? (grins)

What I really, really want...and would no doubt soon be in trouble with...is a stealth weaponized version of the 3800 S/C engine...think Buick Park Avenue Ultra or Oldsmobile LSS.

  • @uxwbill c'mon!

This car has 224 HP and weights 4100lbs....

Now take a car that some might consider to be a 'ricer', a Subaru Impreza WRX... it has only a 2.5l engine, but produces 265 HP with a weight of 2500lbs.

Now who is doing to blow who's doors?

Not to mention that these big ol' rolling couches are terrible at cornering or handling in general compared to most 'ricers'.

  • @andruha11234 For the most part, I'm not talking of going up agains a car that was designed to perform, no matter how many cylinders it has or who made it. (I think a Subaru Impreza WRX is, arguably, a kind of high performance car.)

  • @uxwbill but this would be more 'fare' as they are somewhat in the same price range ;)

  • @andruha11234 Granny cars usually pack quite a punch..

  • Leather! It must have the De Sade option...

  • @barovelli Funny! I said something similar to the Keykeeper and he was totally lost. Kids these days...

  • are rear wheel drive cars like the grand marquis harder to control/drive in the winter uxwbill?

  • @randomrazr To a certain extent, yes. This car has traction control and ABS just like any other modern car. Both features will help maintain control in tricky situations. Yet a front wheel drive car has a tremendous advantage because it has a heavy engine and transaxle right over the driven wheels. A rear wheel drive (though front engined) car does not have nearly as much weight over the driven wheels, and it does make a BIG difference.
