  • one of the best freestyle compositions to date!

  • Amazing....i was brought to tears....i miss dressage so much

  • I'd like to critique this but everyone seems pretty defensive of Ulla here. So let me just say, all riders critique, no matter what their level, it helps us to learn so we can better our own riding.

  • What song is this. I need to know by 2.00 later. I need to know the name and who its by for my dressage finale.

  • If my horse and I could ever be like Ulla and Rusty, my life would be complete. :)

  • at 6:17 ish you can tell that back right(?) (if you were on the horse, the back right) seems to bee stiff and dragging. I wish he wasn't having trouble with that leg in the trot or the piaffe. But that pair is the best I have seen. Kudos and congatulations to that pair for the work they have done and how amazingly they preformed.

  • I love this music, what is it?

  • AMAZING !!!!!!

  • für mich is diese pferd immer noch einer von Gott persönlich gesandter champ!!!

  • I love the way Ulla rides, its how I'm trained to ride - hands higher so that the bit is always in the corners of the mouth on the lips instead of on the tongue. I wish all you ctritics would stop commenting its really annoying for those who just want to enjoy watching these videos !!!!!!

  • Man I hate it when people critisize top level dressage horses and riders and act like they know everything when they have never ridden this level... I mean these are world champion riders, they're at this level for a reason... Just saying.

  • @Bittenbyhorse Carmina Burana

  • mais ce cheval boite non ?

  • This horse is very irritated throughout the entire test. Look at the tail every time his rider asks him to do something besides move in a straight line. Even though, they kept it together and it made for a decent ride.

  • @3v3nt3rQ Have you ever watched other dressage videos? That tail going like that is how he's balancing. If he was truly annoyed, you would see it in his head and in his ears.

  • @jb698 I don't even remember writing that comment it was so long ago. But yes I have watched other dressage videos. I am an experienced dressage rider in fact. But to each his own opinion. I for one have never heard of a horse moving his tail that much to balance, but that doesn't mean you are wrong.

  • io l'avrei chiuso un po' di più qst povero cavallo -,- bah.....la monta tedesca.....

  • The way these two performed.. It's like a work of art in itself! This video always gives me goosebumps.

  • at 3:24 maybe itz jus me but his back legs look alittle to stiff

  • @auntienan95 I agree. I just noticed it too, if not stiff then it seemed like something was irritating his legs during the piaffe and passage

  • his piaffe and passage might leave something to be desired, but Rusty's tempi changes are phenomenal.

  • and the thing with the leg:some horses are doing that..we call it in germany "bügeln"..like ironing..:)

  • Looks like he has some problems in his right hind leg there.

  • One thing's for sure ... this horse is no Salinero. And the tail swishing is annoying. Other than that, Nice horse! :D

  • well yeah, this is a classically trained horse from germany, not an overused, over-trained horse from the netherlands that if he doesnt perform correctly gets punished. this horse is actually happy, compared to where salinero is not, he doesnt even halt now, same with moorlands, they r both ticking time bombs until they finally snap, mentally or physically. theres only so much a horse can take

  • Boy tjhey sure do get dramatic.

  • He looks like he is having pain in his hind legs. other than that, a beautiful performance

  • He certainly does something funky with his back legs in the piaffe. Nice horse tho, mind don't even do piaffe :P

  • beautiful! thanks for posting!

  • Fluid- you have to remember riders have extremely different riding styles (esp depending on your country of origin). Though this riding style may not be what everyone would consider as the most desirable- it is on point. So, yes, it is RIDING, and proper at that.

  • Absolutely fantastic... I don't dare inquire as to how much time was put into preparing for this performance. Takes a lot of dedication to get that far...

  • i agree with you tcody86

non of us could of done it any beter, we should be jelous, that this Rusty can keep her horse like that under control, that she can dance with that horse!!!

  • Okay, so all of you who have posted your "expert opinions" about this ride, please tell me this: 1. How does YOUR riding compare to this? 2. How does the quality and talent of YOUR horse compare to Rusty 47? 3. How many World Cup/WEG/Olympic opportunities have YOU had? Perhaps, rather than to be the Dressage Queens in the stands, appreciate the work, interpretation, and quality of this pair.

  • When I compare THIS with the work of K.F.Hempfling for example, I cannot call it RIDING with a good conscience... Sorrey, not that I would ride on such level as them, but when I see it, I just can't call this prize-collector a RIDER.

  • she's on the back of a horse, in a saddle. that makes it riding. which makes her a rider. and how many prizes have YOU collected? I bet the only think you can ride is your computer chair.

  • "she's on the back of a horse, in a saddle. that makes it riding. which makes her a rider"

---that's how you take it?! than EVERYONE who sits on horse is a rider for you! watch my videos if you wish, then comment. I've been riding for 10 years, of course not at such level, but that style (like on this video) neither is my goal! Do you even know the names - Hempfling, Nevzorov, Karl, Borelle, Beran???

  • agree with you completly, have any of you lot achieve what she and rusty have? guess not so get over yourselves, great horse and rider combo, such a shame the horse world is full of pathetic people who all they can do is criticise and not just enjoy or apprecieate such things, no wonder the rest of the world think horse people are stuck up their own asses with people like you

  • I think she is a great rider and all of you guys should stop giving her bad critique. I would like to see you train your own horse to compete at this level and win. She has won alot of Rusty and yes she has flaws, Doesn't everyone?...So i don't understand why everyone is being such a know-it-all when i dought any of you have even competed in the olympics and won with the German team. Win more than she and Rusty have then i will respect you. Otherwise, Lay-off Ulla and Rusty

  • Passage wasnt collected enough... behind the aid..

  • Comment removed

  • The back hind legs were not coming under as much as they were supposed to...but excellent other wise...

  • beautiful horse. but the piaffe, and passage wasn't good . need a lot of work :/

  • FANTASTIC ^_^

  • ulla is very good , but i still like courtney king-dye and idocus

  • can someone tell me the name of the song for the enter/canter part?? thank youuu

  • It's Palladio

  • dis horse has a big belly hahaa

  • great freestyle- I LIKE THAT HORSE!! Ulla, UR great too!

  • Did Rusty Pass away?

  • nope, he retired... ^^

  • This was the World Cup final in Goteburg. Her win was later annulled because Rusty was tested positive for testosterone at the competition. Ulla maintained that she did not know her vet had treated the horse, and the matter was more or less dropped. I tend to believe her, since the winning horse ALWAYS gets tested, so she would have been insane to manipulate something.

I love this horse, I think he's pure genius, and Ulla is one of the finest riders in the world.

  • R.I.P @ Rusty....

  • She is a very good rider!

  • Comment removed

  • "this horse can't do it properly" what a load of bullcrap, sorry, but this horse is an experienced veteran with an illustrious career before retirement and you're saying he can't perform dressage properly? this pair received so many high scores from judges who actually know what they're looking for in 'proper dressage' and you diss a horse like that? wow...could this possibly mean that you don't know squat about dressage?

and regarding your comparison between ulla & anky, sorry, but i disagree.

  • does anyone know what music she used??

  • Wow that was really good! I wanted to see more canter in it though. I was getting bored of piaffe and passage....too much. I really like it though, the horse is so good! The riders hands are so steady!

  • Comment removed

  • she is doing it properly but i agree that anky is the queen of the kur

  • Really smooth and a beauty. If only she could whipe her expression off her face.. Grumpy?

  • She rides this kuer as if it were easy so smooth and elegant and she is an inspiration to all.

  • Pretty nice!

The croup did lower in the piaffe/passage, although sometimes it was a little stiff/disjointed.

The poll was not the highest point of the neck, which it should be in dressage...

    But otherwise, very nice ride!

  • I was always taught that it was uspposed to be the 3rd or 4th vertbre. Am i wrong? thank you for teaching me. :)

  • My mom always taught me that it was supposed to be the poll, but then again, she's more of an "old-school" dressage type person... but that is what I believe too, though it's never seen anymore

    You're welcome!

  • it definately is the poll which is suppossed to be the highest point of the neck, but today with some stallions and such beng so cresty it may appear that the poll is not the highest point! :)

  • ridingfever.. you do realize you just corrected ANKY.

  • ...thats not Anky

  • ya thats not Anky their names are in the descrpition

  • her hands could go a little bit lower, she raised them too much at some parts. But besides that, awesome!!

  • where do you get the video from?

  • Schön geritten. Pferd kam auch mal frei heraus/noch vorn gehend.

    Kopf kaum hinter der Senkrechten.

Negatives wurde ich schon deutlich benannt.

Schön und wahrlich nicht gerade einfache Kür.

  • Just amazing.

  • Lovely freestyle, the horse and rider flowed really well. I do wish the horse had a more pleasing piaffe and passage, otherwise he was beautiful. I loved

  • Yes, his piaffe was a little stiff, but his more extended paces were beautiful!

  • oh man i loved the music to this kur. amazingly coreographed (sp?)

  • Absolutly Gorgeous

  • What is that in the begginging at about 28 seconds to 30 seconds??? I want to know the name of it!

  • Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.

  • Rusty is a great horse and Ulla a gorgeous rider, but.... the uneven hitching in the piaffe seriously makes me *cringe.*

  • das sind Tritte keine schritte

  • Ich finde, dass bei 2:18 Minute die schrittfolge hinten etwas komisch aussieht...

  • ____________<333333333333_____________

  • Lovley, rusty was beautiful! Besides the passage and piaffe (he was not relaxed he looked to tight) he is wonderful at the dressage sport..Along with Salinaro and Mattine (correct my spelling if im wrong)

  • Rusty was a very succesful dressagehorse. He's great..

  • My God, that's so beutiful!

  • rusty was a very good horse!!!

  • I love this pair! They look gorgeous together!

  • How can you say its not got the greatest dressage?! Yeah it might not have the best piaffe or passage ive ever seen, but it wouldnt be competing at gran prix level if it wasnt good enough, think the rider knows what the horse can handle and is capable of!

  • ja da brauchter meinen kommi gar nicht schlecht bewerten :D das ist nunmal so

  • has he got a touch of stringhalt?

  • he has an achlys heel.

  • V.Good =]

  • Mein Gott wie viele möchtegern Richter hier wieder sind. Wahrscheinlich auch noch alle aus den USA...Die USA sind ja sone echte Reitsportgröße vor allen dingen in der Dressur... :D

  • This horse doesn't really have the greatest dressage. Yeah sure, it's pretty to watch, but when judging....he is wierd with his back feet in Piaffe and Passage, and he barely tracks up, if at all. He also looks like he is anticipating, but hey, pretty test, he looks rather obedient. Good job whoever this is!

  • Do you know the name of this song?

  • The music is made up off different pieces, of which two are as follows: Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, and Palladio by Karl Jenkins. Enjoy!

  • Tolles Pferd und ne super reiterin^^ schade das Rusty in den Ruhestand gegangen is :(

  • rusty is gestorben

  • amazing dressage. I love drssage, its so amazing to watch.

  • Amazing dressage!! Beautifully choregraphed! Thanks so much for the video!

  • amazing flying changes!!!! well done great work

  • Those changes of leg in canter look perfect!

  • wow, amazing, great horse

  • one of the horses hindlegs gets really jerky at times..... right hind. idk it was very percise and beautiful but idk not my fav

  • actually i think its the left hind. yea it does looks a bit jerky doesnt it. as she is doing the slow trot it looks like hes trying to avoid putting pressure on it or like he has a fly.

  • amazing half-passes! this horse has the same making as my old lil QH too! haha i love it

  • wow that was amazing

  • wow that was amazing

  • hey for all of you who don't kno its hard to make it look like your not giving a signal with your legs so i thought that was fantastic.

  • tat was amazing. i luv dressage n i loved watchin da flyin changes. xx

  • Wow, such a good performance. Hey give her a break and appreciate the routine for what it was, spectucular! Not every routine is PERFECT and her transitions, especially from extended trot straight to passage were amazing! Rusty is a lovely horse and ofcourse he would be supple, he's a FEI dressage champion! Bravo to both of them and well done!

  • Rusty is an old horse. I think that justify that Ulla is moving her legs so much.

  • why would riding an old horse mean that the riders legs moves more. the older the horse is the more responsive it should be because of all the training (if it was trained correctly in the first place).

therefore he shouldn't have be so obvious with hes aids, they should be invisible

  • Actually, the older a horse gets, the less responsive it becomes. As he ages, his skin will become tougher where the rider gives her cues, and he won't be able to feel them as easily. Therefore, the rider will have to ask more drastically. Trust me, I used to ride a 17 year old Prelim horse, and a few older mares. Now I ride a 13 year old intermediate mare, who is responsive yes, but only because whoever trained her beat her ass if she didn't listen, and now she anticipates.

  • thats rubish about the older the horse the less responsive it gets

  • I am just saying, all the older horses I ride, gradually get to where they can't feel the leg as well. Like a person gets a callous after using his hands the same way for so long, it's pretty much the same thing. That doesn't mean it's a bad horse, or he isn't ridden correctly or anything, it's just the way of nature. I really don't mean to argue, I am just saying.....

  • That is sooo un-true. Diferent horses respond and are taught diferent ways and listen to aids dfferent ways. i ride a 21 year old QH/TB mare and she is verrrry sensitive to my seat. shes more productive then my freind's 2 dutchwarmbloods that are 10 and 12! my other freind does eventing and i let her get on my horse and she said that my mare was the most sensitive horse she had ever ridin. you dont know what you are talking about so please dont talk at all.

  • OK, I was just voicing my opinion, and you voiced yours, there is no reason to be rude. Sorry if I ruined your day by speaking my thoughts Dreamgurl, ill shut up now.

  • this is a beautiful ride. Her legs look fine, shes flexing her heels as he moves. His tail is alittle distracting when hes doing collected work, but he looks lovely

  • other than the fact that she moves her legs a little too much, I thought it was great! I loved the music; I thought it went really well with the preformance.

  • the rider is moving her legs to much. her horse must not be very soft.

  • her legs move with the horse- its called having an affective leg.

  • dont worry

i see your username has jumper in it. i used to be a jumper and thought that when they moved their legs like that it was bad

but now i do eventing and am really competitive in dressage

  • LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! i would like to do some dressage!! not reli my thing tho!! prefer jumping!! anyone got any ideas as to how to make a 16.2hh dutch warmblood showjumper with a choppy stride do medium or extended trot??? XX

  • Her and Anky = <3

  • if they would make a pas de deux ^^

  • it would be brilliant!

  • yes .. i would love it ^.^

why don't they do that ._.

  • yes .. i would love it ^.^

why don't they do that ._.

  • oh she's my favorite ... she's a really good rider, like you can see there's nothing with hyperflexion or something .. i love her..

  • I can only say wow.....

  • What is that movement with the horses hindleg with the marking on? it is at about 2.19 he lifts it quie high but his other legs dont do it? is it a movement?

  • no, it was a mistake, It was a piaffe but she asked too much of the hind leg and it went higher than the other.

  • why cant you guys just enjoy the good movements, the freestyle has already been judged. Just enjoy!

  • aww. it's like his tail is dancing as well. Very beautiful.

  • This is my fave... watch it time and time again. I can't belive the sync w/ music and I love Rusty's tail.. twitchy a bit but always willing!

  • anyone know the canter music?!

  • It is called the Diamond Music. It was used in the DeBeers commercials for diamonds. That particular section is the Palladio. There is a cd by the London Philharmonic called Diamond Music that is a good rendition.

  • Ulla & Rusty are lovely, but those piaffes were quite poor. The hitching & repeated loss of rhythm are major faults. I am honestly surprised she was still able to win.

  • nelsonreed - do you ever say anything nice? nothing can be perfect. piaffe is ohnestly the hardest part of dressage. Please give it a rest. Or show me some videos of you riding a perfect piaffe.

  • Yes, Jaccko, I KNOW the piaffe is difficult.

Yes, I do have very nice things to say about good riding. I leave nice comments all the time, even for people's vids of their backyard horses. If I see correct riding.

  • whatever

  • You just happen to see me making comments on these vids of this type of ridiculous circus riding that is being called dressage nowadays that you love so much and defend so ignorantly. You are too young to have any clue how dressage has come to prostitute itself in over the years.

  • I am too young to know about the old dressage yes, but todays dressage is the best and if it was so bad they would be where they are. Youre too old to get into the real world. You know as the world gets older it changes, right? so maybe you need to get out of your ancient bumb and get into the modern :)

  • Today's dressage is the best?

    Read a book.

Dressage is a sport that has been around for eons. WAY before you, honey. And FYI I am not old by anyone's standards.

This kind of crap is why there is all this controversy over this new circus dressage you're so in love with. That's why the FEI is seriously investigating cruelty in dressage. You really ought to look into saddleseat, I think it would appeal to you.

  • No, the FEI is not looking into dressage cruelty seriously! what is wrong with you!? You really need to get your facts straight, and i dont care what you think about this "circus dressage" deal with the fact that people ride like this...youre not going to stop them! you need a life. get one fast

  • You do know that most of todays dressage could be called "horse wrestling" right? now a days most riders are just fighting with there horses, there are some that have a real connection with their horse, like in the "old days", but most don't

  • Sorry. I dont agree. And i honestly cant be bothered to argue about it right now.

  • it's ok that you can't argue with about it and that you don't agree, I just said what I did out of my own opinion as a dressage rider and having the honor of having a dressage book that was written according to "the old days"

  • May i ask why you would refer every thing to that book? There are many other ways...

  • I don't really refer everything to that book, I have another more modern one, but I like that older one more when it comes to riding since it talkes of a more pure horsemanship, the new one helps me a lot about rules and a few details in riding that might not have come or I didn't understand in the other book, I would like other book though, the more I read the more I can pick of out of every book what would be the best.

  • Oh ok :)

  • @Jaccko14 all I can say is.. LOL !

  • Your right about todays dressage not even being real dressage (and I compete in dressage) I also agree with your comment about the piaffes, they are hard but I have seen way better. I also think the extended trot looked a little stiff, but I'm not so sure, I'm not a good judge at this jet.

  • I agree. The passage was also poor in areas. It's hard to see if it is simply a weaker hind leg, or if it's from tension- the horse appears quite tense through the body throughout.

The horse also seems to leave the hind legs out from behind himself in the trot and passage, and does not step under, take enough weight behind, and create true impulsion.

  • ima1 - your a idiot. Just so that you could have the last word in, you go and tell dano to block me. Your such a wanka

  • I never ever ever told Dano to do anything. In fact I've never once spoken to the person. And look up the vision LOL... that is what happens when you are a prey animal with eyes on either side of the head instead of forward like a persons. Jaccko that is what gives you your depth perception! The only way a horse can accurately judge a distance is to get it's nose up to look. Why do you think jumpers let their horses pick their heads up?

  • Jumpers dont let the horses have their heads up! Horse all the time go around showjumping rings with their face on the vertical. Maybe its just you americans??

  • Yes they do Jaccko. They will most likely not see the jump ahead and crash through it if their vision is obscurred by their head position. The rider might ride them on the vertical or BTV around the ring, but when approaching a jump - they let their head come up. If they don't, the horse cannot judge the distance.

  • OH MY GOD! canterpirouette, i do jumping myself, and i do alot of it, at fairly nig heights with a good technique. My horse will Jump a high jump whether he is on the vertical or above. Horses are on the vertical all the time when they jump, it helps them with a more scoopy jump. I would actually like to know if you do jumping? Cos i get the feeling your a classical dressage bitch

  • Jaccko, if you've ridden up to anything more than about 2'6" without your horse in front of the vertical you are asking for trouble. A horse can visually see there is an obstical in front of them, but without raising the head they can't really get a good gauge of distance and height. You may get away with it at lower levels, but go jump some advanced level xcountry fences... there is no way you'd get over them safely.

  • Yes there is, i have seen with my own eyes so many horses go over BIG fences with there heads on the vertical. This is no longer up for discusion.

  • Jaccko I'm not personally attacking you, so please refrain from insulting me for whatever reason. I'm not saying there is something wrong with the way you ride because we aren't talking about that, but further back behind the vertical it can really obstruct their vision on the approach. As you said yourself, on the vertical or above, but I'm talking about the approach, not mid-air.

  • canter - I would point a horse at a jump with its head behind the vertical. Most of the time when i jump its either just above or on.

  • canter - sorry, would was meant to be wouldnt *

  • That's the point I am trying to make, that it's good to be on the vertical or just above. I don't understand why we're arguing about that when I agree with it.

  • Oh ok, lets leave it at that then :)

  • do anything they dont want to do!
