The government has built homes on the rez and u destroy them and the government tries to help the native Americans but they have come to believe they are "owed" a living. Time to stop whining get over it and do something about it. Move, get an education, find a job, pay your bills, prove who you really are and then maybe you will EARN some respect. Why do you think you deserve a hand out? And yes I am part Sioux and no one helps me out but myself......
subscribe to us, google chicago readers, something rotten in ford heightss, floyd bryant, movie is in the work, feel free to leave a comment, thank you..
@3000nathaniel shut the hell up already!! im tired of hearing native people say oh fuk the whte man this and fuk that and the land!! what u gonna do about it!! not all white people are the same everyone is rasict in some way, your no better than their ancestors talking like that.. We not ever gonna get land back look at the damn pipeline being built!! I hate when people blame other people for their choices they make in their life
And watch the movie dream keeper ... We will get u fuckin white ppl back!!! For what u did stealing our land .. When we come into power were gonna kill all u white ppl
We don't beg u broke ass ppl...and don't u get it u dumbass white ppl! It's the poorest reserve !!!! They can't fix there own homes fuckin dumb fuckin white ppl now and days dont no how to think , we were here b4 u dumb ppl...
Fuck all u white ppl we were here b4 u guys!!!! U guys should be the one to leave not us.... U guys just stole our land and took as ur own stupid white ppl
There is no doubt that it is one of the poorest areas in the nation. There is also no doubt that millions and millions of dollars have been poured into the reservations and the monies mismanaged by the tribe. Having lived near and worked on projects on the reservation. I have seen newly built government homes reduced to rubble by the residents in months and on the other side seen ranches thrive and monies put to good use.. So there are two sides to the coin.
@badlandsnative65 I can say the same thing about corporations except we are talking billions not millions of mismanaged monies. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.
@badlandsnative65 This summer we drove through Allen's road construction (on the rez) and filmed it. The workers were on their lunch break or something in was 10am. And those workers were not from the rez. At 90% unemployment you think they could hire some of the local residents to do road contruction. I don't know about you but I have my boys clean their own room, I don't have someone else do it for them.
These fucking welfare chugs can get a job and fix their own damn houses.
Fucking loser indians, always expecting whitey to bail their sorry asses out.
STOP ALL NATIVE WELFARE NOW! NO MORE WELFARE OR FREE HOUSING / FOOD / SUPPLIES FOR ANY OF THESE MOTHER FUCKERS.
White Canada is SICK of you fucking natives always begging us for more free shit! Fuck YOU. Get the fuck out of Canada, you lazy fucks. Go make yourself useful on the north fucking pole, where you can live like animals!!!!
Its a GODDAMN SHAME that this fuckin society has stolen native american resources and land, make obscene profits of of it, call native americans savages, herd em onto reservations(aka concentration camps) and reduce them to being poorest people in the nation. We built the mightiest and wealthiest nation in the world off of their land and their backs and they get next to muthafuckin nothing
Ok, first: I don't doubt the plight of the people there.
However it is another thing with the dogs. At least the dogs in the video don't look starved at all. They are in top shape especially when you consider that it is winter when many wolves and coyotes die (and eat their dead) as well. An if that one grey dog is feral his condition in the video marks him as a successfull survivor, not a poor victim.
@inotaishu1 Thank you for your opinion. I am not an expert on dogs, wolves or coyotes so I am glad they are not starving. It was really sad. An update though, the packs of dogs or coyotes have disappeared.
@pushthelimit Some people might tell you that the coat is deceiving but it is not that deceiving. Potruding hips and slim waists can be seen easily. I guess if both dogs and coyotes have dissapeared they probably got killed. And least that is a very common way to deal with them.
Any idea how long they lived there? I mean based on the video obviously long enough to form social groups.
@inotaishu1 I have known them to be there for over fifty years. I couldn't imagine anyone from the rez killing them. A few comments said they wish they could rescue the dogs and kill the Indians. I will hope hey were rescued.
@pushthelimit That is a long time. They could have been killed, at least some of them because I doubt that so many were "rescued". In addition I wouldn't be sure whether that rescue is actually better for them. I dog grown up to run free in his territory will probably not take good to be in a house and on leash all the time. In addition most dog owners (especially white americans) don't let their owners be dogs and this spay and neuter mania probably took many good genes from the pool.
@myladyschild...I have prayed on this, and have asked god to Bless this rez like no other.i have shared this story on a Great spiritual sit n raised awareness n put it in gods hands.I dont believe id get mugged there but i couldnt blame some Natives for hating us whites.
LONG LIVE A.I.M. !!! the white man government has done enough to these native americans.lets stop the maltreatment of these people and give them what they deserve.russel means and dennis banks plz come again...your people need you .......
My mothers people are Cherokee and they went through something similar but have started the process of healing. I pray to the Grandfather he will hear your cries and restore you to your rightful place. Best wishes from Red Coyote
They went to take again, and our people fought again. And we lost. We have so much handouts from the governments, and we do not take it to our advantage. They have opportunities for us to go to universities and get a good education, and we do nothing. Pine Ridge has roughly two million dollars of revenue pass through is borders annually. If it where combined to one day, all the money leaves the rez in less than 48 hours. Our people do not want to support theirselves or there familys.
It is clear to me none of you have ever been to pine ridge. It is in the condition it is in, because of the people that choose to live there. Choose is the key word. Many will tell you that they have have no choice. You can't just leave and be homeless. Yes, you can. I did. Wife, two kids. Now I have a job, and decent trailer house to live in. Off the rez. Something I have learned over the years, the white man did NOT steal our land. We fought, we lost, the gave us some back.
The native American went from 60 million when Columbus landed to about 800,000 at the trurn of the 20th century. That is the most out ragious genoside ever on the face of the earth. Don't make fun of these people. They're land was stolen and they're heritage destroyed by the white man. If you don't understand they're pain and suffering you are a Sociopath. They're blood carries the pain and anguish of the loss of the milions the white man killed. They deserve to live in dignity and with respect.
the poorest place in america!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i live there and im a Lakota! were once a great nation until the white man came bringing the harm of drugs and achol
This is sickening. Bulldoze these fucking reservations and get these people up off their butts and into mainstrem society. How long will these people sit around on these fucked up reservations waiting with their hands outstretched for free shit from the guh-ment? When will they realize the guh-ment doesn't give a shit about them and it never will? There is no future for anyone on the Rez. They need to get up and get the fuck out. Oh, and call Animal Control to get rid of those god-damned dogs!
@432ps1 There are no physical locks, prison bars, and chains on them but they do have a certain type of lock on them that not everyone see...you say you have eastern cherokee roots well all native american people should look out for each other regardless of their own tribe. The cherokee are still going through hardships you need to be aware of that....just because they left the reservation doesn't mean the cherokee are not suffering.
@432ps1 things can improve if the native americans can come together to make the reservation live able. leaving the reservation means'cultural genocide.
@432ps1 As a Bedonkohe Apache, my Grandfather would tell me what society has done to the Native Americans by trying to inlfuence us into your "Mainstream Society" is much worst than any white man, such as Andrew Jackson, has done to a Native American. Atleast we Natives know what is real and what is not and it sure as hell is not your designer shoes or flat screen tv's. If that doesnt explain why we dont submit to society then perhaps your brain might be missing.
@MattyTheMole As an Eastern Cherokee I can tell you, there is nothing noble about sitting on your ass on the Rez - broke, uneducated, drunk and living in despair while your children are raised in poverty and ignorance with no future. The sooner you break free of the shackles of the reservation and realize all the death, destruction and misery it's caused us, the better off you'll be. There's a great big world out there and it can all be yours when you take charge of your own destiny
@432ps1 I have been to other rez around the US. When you get away from the mid-west most natives hold themselves to a higher standard. And they have self supportive communities. They have tribal leaders that are not corrupt, and they have education system that works. I applaud you and your people for taking charge of "your own destiny". You are not sitting on your ass's waiting for someone else to take charge of yours. I wish my people would have the dignity to do the same.
@432ps1;Maybe he/she doesn't want to leave the Rez.this is their home why should they cower down to the government? this whole world belongs to the Native Americans, they cultivated it by hand, therefore they deserve what is rightfully theirs. So what if only a few or even hundreds get drunk? It's not catchy. Why would the Indians want to live out side of the Rez? Can we get real here?.As long as they stick together/United we stand, devided we fall.
@CommonSense498 The world belongs to the strong. The weak will inherit NOTHING. Nobody has a right to ANYTHING, they just borrow it for a while. Why would anyone want to live in a ghetto, a hood or a rez, living in poverty with no hope, no future??? Keep being a pawn. A puppet. Dependent on handouts. You disgust me.
@MattyTheMole I'm sure your Grandfather was a great man, but these words he spoke are flat out WRONG. Why have you allowed the US Government and the BIA to take your dignity? Or have you just given it away...
@432ps1 Shut up...There are Natives in the south west who live off the land and they aren't in the mainstream society and don't need jobs, they have their traditional buildings, festivals, farming and hunting and they have the lowest crime rate in the world because they haven't been influenced by American society...There are also people who live in Tribes who operate some of the weathiest businsses in the world, while others have developed enough businesses to sustain themselves.
Natives have self-goverment and tribal rule.Where are the other natives? Laws? Aid? In the 70's cash flowed into charities for resevations, where did it go?
@goldensassenach - I love the real gettoes...like the large landfills were people bury their capitalism...large portions of undrinkable water that leave fish uneatable as well......the time is coming soon on the realities on the 200 year "experiment" that was done with no consent or respect to the people who knew better...you have a lot to learn...
i hate the idea of how these people are so inspiring, they are so thankful of what they have, etc. they are like super humans, yet the europeans just come here, conquer, and act like nothing happened. the natives of this great land are the ones that suffer. its just bizarre how people are fine with it. also, there are many problems that have been adressed, such as slavery of africans, or the genocide of jews, and people look back at that and think its terrible. what about this?
@pushthelimit Oh thank You so much, this bothers me so much because my soul Mate n i were homeless drunks for about 6 years n were drunks n we were given a 2nd chance n live a good life now n i want to know ways for outsiders to helpthose in the Rez?
@TheCoffeeshopguru I would visit there first. Make sure you go to White Clay, Nebraska it is right outside of the rez. It is an evil place. Search on Youtube for Whiteclay
@TheCoffeeshopguru If you want, we are building a sustainable pallet house in the reservation for a family living in a beat up camper, if you would like to help send me a message here on youtube!
@TheCoffeeshopguru friendsofpineridgereservation google it, you tube wont let me put a link .you can donate things that are needed and see ways to go there and intern as well. very sad that this is going on in America.
@rocknrollbat Thank You n yes thats exactly how i think is best way to help. Thanks so muchPeople of all Races n Cultures must stand together n help, our Native Brothers.I plan to use Twitter to draw some attention as well.my twitter name is @peaceangel6
I am a White Chicagoan, and if i was welcomed on Your Rez,id come Serve You wonderful people,i would honor n comfort You all, help You garden and make the Rez a Paradise.I love You my native Brothers n Sisters.Blessing to You.
If only everyone could give 1 dollar (or 1 euro) it could be possible to build decent homes to everyone and giving them health care. It is easier to be strong in mind with a full belly, a warm bed and someone to share it with you.
When you have no safe place to rest how can one feel like a human being and not fall back in the animals surviving way of life ?
We humans need other peoples to live. We must care for each others.
they could have a chemical spill and 250 sq miles around that spill... isnt livable.... for this place will be a death trap.... people who we cant let go of the past? your wrong..... we acknowledge what happen and will forever talk about it but we are fighting for something every single day..... so once again dont judge.... come live here come see our protests come amd listen to our youth and elders speak.......
@SoDakLaKotA the Lakota should get together and start a agricultural and renewable energy and green economy...I've heard some Lakota say "we aren't farmers", but you were over 400 yrs ago and agriculture and gathering was the main source of food of our ancestors...There are two growing businesses on PR, Lakota solar Enterprises and Native American Natural Foods, advertise to the world and they will buy from the Lakota...Other Tribes trade and sell with other countries and they are doing ok now.
and i will be that person to say this but no.... no other people are like our people (the lakota, nakota, dakota) mr.hulya... or wjatever.... i understand u say your people from turkey are the same... but no we arent we might have went throigh similar tragedies but we dont want the govt here.... how you say this government is so wonderful... there are trying to put 14 mines here to dig up whatever... and all those places are by communities...
some of us are the fortunate ones who grew up in traditional families, but school was pushed upon us.... i hope no one takes offense but my lala(grandpa) told me, my girl go to school, go to college, but never forget where you come from stay humble... because intodays day and age the only way we can prove "white people" here in south dakota, since majority are racist to an extent but is to beat them in their own game...
and we are not bad people... u say let the government help the oyate(people) but i say no.... why should anyone depend on the government if they are capable of working, going to school.... its just that on our rez there isnt any jobs none i swear like none... and im one the few that loves school... but many natives cant incorprate western way of thinking into there daily lives...
theyll say something negative... and honestly whats always shown about us today is something negative.... shouldnt be like that... come live here for a summer see the good and bad before u make a judgment.....
were here we fight everyday to for one of our rights.... there are some of us who fight against people through education.... just to prove we are better and its not like i go around campus yelling around talking about what happened... but if u came here and ask a non native what does lakotas meapln to u
people also talk about the government..... if the government really followed there laws then the native nations here in the usa would own the usa.... because in of their own laws they made, one it stated that any nation, people, or country that has beat the usa in a battle or war the usa will then be owned more or less by the people who won..... and us, the lakota at the beat the usa at little big horn lol idk why im explaining that but point being.
up until twenty years ago twenty thats how old i am... and finally then things are trying to be changed. ... im not dwelling but i will mevwr fotget what happened even yo my mom..... thete is postive things that do take place and i wish others can see how not all my people gave into what happenes bit grasped it and made them stronger to figjt for what we do have...... and dor the better good for the up coming generations
Native Americans are not the only one abused by their government. We have been abused too by our government. That is why we choose better leaders. I think Native Americans are good people but life changes. My ancestors were killed ,abused but I never let anyone keep me down. My ancestors would want me to live good and educated that they did not. That is why they suffered for us. Being free is being educated. Education let you free.. Isolation is not freedom. Segregation is not freedom.
I f you do not people to respond to this video then do not publish it. I have tried to understand the poverty in America. Native Americans remind me my country Turkey. Kurdish people have same hatred to Turks just like Native Americans. Yes, we need the government. People are government. Government gives service that is why we pays tax. How much more can reservations keep the government out. What ever happened in the past will not happen now. That is why we vote. I just cared your reservations.
Native Americans I am going to tell the truth. Life has changed and you have to let go the grudge. Your ancestors want your race to go forward. Let the U.S government help you. Being stubborn will keep your race under poverty and uneducated. You cannot stop your children from growing what is right for them. Businesses should come to your reservations and teachers, hospitals. I love your people but you are wrong not letting the government in. I am from Turkey we are same race we moved forward.
I don't need the Government in my life and I don't want their help...The hell with them.
This is the same Government that put my grandparents and uncles in abusive Government run boarding schools and sent me to a unnecessary war in Iraq...I've gotten along better in life without the Government.
What you see in the video is only one Reservation...There are over 560 Reservations and Tribes in the United States and they are not all poor...Not every person is poor.
I am headed to Pine Ridge in July to run a natural building workshop teaching how to build homes from natural materials and waste materials, the house will be made from pallets and in filled with light straw clay an earthen plaster will be applied on the interior and exterior of the home, i build these type of houses where I live in Texas, I am looking for volunteers, and I am taking 8 apprentices to learn this method of home building, for more info click my name and go to my website, see you!!
you really think dead animals and a dog eating another dog or whatsoever helpts anyone to understand the problems of the Indians?? Ok you've shown one slightly drunk guy, but... seriously?!
SKE: Yes. Or, just in case the Native story is left untold in mainstream America, at the very least we can opt to fiercely 'resist' the encroachments of neocolonialism that desires to re-colonize our minds and spirits. When I think of some of the problems across Native country, I feel that many of my Native relatives have given up. But when we give up, we are acknowledging that colonialism triumphed. I don't plan to do that.
Yes, I agree with you about the power of (Teachers) just step back , and look at what
you have...Grandfather earth, inwhich we live; Grandmother sky inwhich we share. The America Indians' were the gate keepers then, and NOW! The CULTURE is you and I making this known... HISTORY will not change (EVER). The KEY is get the American STORY told in the schools by the GATE KEEPER. The Indian's need to pick these people to travel, and tell the STORY. MY friend.
Historical Archaeology is based on Historical America; All the universities study this culture; the caretakers of North America was the mighty Indians... EDUCATION IS THE ONLY WAY TO GAIN STRENGTH....I am only one person, and my family dislikes me. So, tradition will fading. knowledge is Power; so power to the people...........
@SKE1966 I hope you can preserve both your family's traditions & still do what you should do in terms of aiding/helping Natives. These two ideas are NOT mutually exclusive. It's a matter of changing our hearts & minds. Agree with you, education is needed. We live in a different time than many of the elders, warriors, spiritual leaders of the past. We have to become educated & skilled--equipped to deal with Native problems of today. We need Native laywers, doctors, teachers, scientists, etc.
I am part Cherokee my g grandmother's family hid in the mountains of GA and AL when the white men took the Cherokee on the walk of tears. My daughter is also part Lakota on her dad's side, both his parents died in N.Dakota at a young age. The government and WE all need to help these people.
Ashamed to call myself American! 59,200,000 Native Americans exterminated, heards of Buffalo numbering in the hundreds of millions, wiped out to about 1800. And over the past 200+ years the us government denies them there lands and plays tricks with confusing language to steal the little they have. Just enrages me. Stay strong Indian Nation, I'm truly sorry.
No Native American who is educated (knows what is going on) would become a Christian. Who do u think the remnants mentioned in Revelation are? In old testament chapter of Malachi a message 2 Native Americans about being purified by fire is there. It is mandatory for all Native Americans 2 be atheists. Think it is all nonsense. Read about the time machine in Malachi. Write chemtrails conspiracy n above search box.
The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is building 500 large wind mills on their land, this is a expensive project costing over 100 million (It's a joint effort with several businesses and Gov agencies), it may bring in 12 million a year and create hundreds of jobs...Their College and partners are providing training for tribal members...Inventor Henry Red Cloud of Pine Ridge created his own manufacturing of solar heating units business providing lower costing energy and employment...There is alot of hope.
May the Creator bless all my relatives at Pine Ridge...my grandfathers, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, etc. Bless you each one....Bless all my military brothers and sisters...all the warriors and tribal leaders....all those in the spiritual council..all those who struggle and see no end in sight...may you each have peace in knowing that good can come to pass if we choose to believe it..bless each one of you.
Some reservations are getting left behind while others are prospering...I have Lakota relatives from near by Rosebud Sioux Rez most of them are working, but I under stand the lack of opportunities in the area...Go to your local Tribal colleges and get your education, become business oriented...Tribes need to become self sufficient and start trading with eachother like in the old days.
THOMAS and others, so true. Self-sufficient, land honoring, tribe-enriching, job-building efforts CAN be successfully established at Pine Ridge and on other poor rez communities. We as Native people need the will and drive to push these idea forward. I hope the tribal councils are listening. As a person of Native extraction, I will come and help our people...I'm ready and want to come. There's a lot of us out here wanting to help. Let us build a strong coalition and just do it.
@Lochee1000 There are Lakota, Dakota and Nakota people doing very well for themselves in South Dakota thier economy is growing very vast on parts of the Rez while other communities are building and improving (but still have the highest rates of poverty and issues)...A few yrs ago I worked for the Rosebud Souix Firefighters and did some labor work for Pine Ridge housing authority (I forget the name) and I worked with very hard workers who inspired me to work hard...It's lack of opportunities.
Grah! this makes me angry! >:( bajillions of dollars go overseas to help ppl in africa yet none of it(save for a pithy "oh sorry we screwed y'all over" bit) goes to where its needed most in our own country. Only thing you can do is spread awareness and hope something is done about it. People in the shelter I work at here in Chicago have it better than most folks on the Rez....GRRRRRR
@pirategirl1492 actually NA are the second wealthiest minority behind Asians...But its the top 10% creates 80 percent of the wealth...23% of the population lives in poverty, some Reservations are up to 60% unemployment while other Natives and Tribes have some of the richest people in the World operating wide varieties of businesses...Most Natives/Tribes that are doing well for them selves often donate nearly a billion a year to other Natives and Tribes...Alot of work still needs to be done.
@Thomas3901 Where do you get your facts? Pine Ridge reservation has 85-90% unemployment. And where did you read the wealthy tribes give a billion dollars a year to other tribes? I have letters from several California tribes and they said they ONLY have funds for to their own members. One California tribe even de-erolled half their tribe.
THOMAS: ....yes it's true, NOT all Natives on Pine Ridge and surrounding areas are suffering, but a good portion of our people are. I am primarily concerned about the elders who need care and protection in old age. I'm also concerned about my brothers and sisters who struggle with alcohol and drugs. I'm also concerned about the availability of clean/green fuels to provide utlilities and keep warm in the bitter, cold months. I have lots on my mind....
This is sad how a once proud Nation has been stripped of everything and is on the same level as dogs in the street. I grew up by Red Lake Reservation. Had many Lakotas and Ojibwe friends and seen first hand what style of living environment they have to call home. Many of my friends have stayed but I no longer speak to them. I have been to Powwows and what beauty and power in their cultures. I am so sad for my old friends. I wish better for you.
they say where women and the feminine is most suppressed and rejected, there is great poverty. i see it around the world... i see it here in this video.
@DeathShamans We are a matriarchal society. Our leaders, judges... are women. But alcohol, which has been banned on the rez, causes terrible things to happen to our women. How in the hell to you battle alcohol and the evil it brings?
i actually went there last year as a school field trip. very depressing seeing a majority of native american sitting outside with alchohol in his hand. i understand how this came to be and i have had very much studies on the people of the lakotah. during my time there we actually helped in a soup kitchen feeding nachos to many many veterans and indian verterans that fought for their land . god bless to every single native american. dont let the culture die you are very unique
Would anyone living in this reservation be happy with some development? I mean in the way of decent housing and community facilities. I don't mean with huge factories or anything. Things like this don't get reported on UK news. I mean even with a big modern house - that won't take the culture away from your hearts and whats in your mind will it?So long as you keep your dances and celebration cermonies alive isn't that whats important?
Very distressing video. I am from the UK watching this. What I don't understand is why do the Native peoples on the Resv just bite their lips about their beliefs and just try and move with the times into main stream America? So they can at least benefit from the rights given to all Americans. Rather than trying to survive on the Reservation. Please don't insult this question, it is a genuine point of interest as i think its an important issue for the US! I realise pride is a big part of this.
@MovieMad007 Some of us have left the reservation but it is very hard to leave. Family and culture is so important. So we have a choice, leave our relatives and way of life, stay on the reservation, try to bring them and our way of life with us or a combination of these choices. It is really hard to explain to outsiders. But in a nutshell we should be able to live our way of life and not have to assimilate into main stream America.
@pushthelimit Hello! Thankyou for your reply! You raise a point about it being very hard to leave the resv. But millions of ordinary people in the US and around the world have to make decsions like that everyday! Even i had to make a decsion to leave home! My Father is buerried in a church in my home town but I have to leave him to earn money to live! Like himself he had to move his family (Mum,sister & myself) out to Africa for 3 years leaving family behind!
MOVIE: (part 3) Another huge problem area is where corporations that destroy the land, poison the waters, expose our people to toxins, manipulate and take advantage through disingenious contracts. My native relatives on different rez communities are subjected to these treatments all the time. Lastly, my relatives on reservations are so engulfed with social problems, poverty, health crises, family violence, alcoholism, etc, that it's hard to get to other equally important struggles.
@pushthelimit You should. I agree. But because you are not able to live in the traditional way of those who came before you modern day indians must find a new way to support themselves or they will perish. It is sad but I hope you can find a way. There is alot of culture and natural knowledge of ways to survive on earth that will be lost if that happens.
@pushthelimit any body who joins with a mainstream america is accepting the white man ways
the natives need to do what they do best and live off the land and never let their culture die just because the white man doesnt have any culture he wants to put everyone to do the same .. no culture no brain . work and sleep work and sleep. the white man growns grass and waste our water and gas and their time. grass was created for the use of grazzing animals the buffalo and other animals.
MOVIE: Native people are a spiritual people who have strong beliefs that are rooted in the care of the land...so much is this care & respect that they would rather take it slow & explore options than move too soon. It takes a lot to appreciate that concept. Even I have to review it from time to time. All Native spiritual leaders I've heard seem to prophecy the same things...."Those who would be spiritual and survive in this generation will be those who look for balance, harmony, oneness."
MOVIE: (Part 2). The situations for many tribes on reservations are quite complex--on one hand you have the BIA & other entities who seek to control & keep down Native people. Next, you have to deal rightly with tribal councils, elders, & leaders who are brought together for difficult decisions. While I DON'T endorse wholesale commericialism on the rez, I do support self-sufficiency that is controlled/ designed by Natives. It takes time for these different ideas to be decided upon.
@MovieMad007 I think the realquestion is "If someone took your home away, committed genocide against you, and denied everything they did to wipe you from this world; would you want anything to do with them and their society?"
@Uwohilatlitigv Yes, I can see your point there. However, is there not the argument too that its no Modern America who committed the wrongs. It was the actions of the few many years ago. Such as for example the Aborigines of Australia, they were abused terribly and trampled on for a long time by the whites but that is not the fault of Modern Australia and pressure is being forced on the current Australian Govrt to appologise. But its difficult I think because it wasn't their fault
Also (please don't feel insulted with my opinions I am very open to being criticised and I am glad for once to be involved with a decent debate on YouTube!!)
If we look for example at the attrocities of WW2 inflicted by Emp Hirohito's troops and airforce on the allies should we still be angry at modern Japan for the actions of their ancestors? I think if the Native Peoples (Sioux, Navajo and all the others) moved into mainstream America I think they would find that the ordinary Americans
would have their own worries - will they have a job to go back to on Monday morning, did they have enough money to pay the gas bill, is Dad going to be back home to get the kids to childcare etc ...aren't these going to be the issues that most modern day Americans are going to be worried about rather than causing harm or heartache to Native People's coming off a reservation to live near them? That is only my opinion - as I say please feel free to shoot me down in flames!! Important topic though
@MovieMad007 Actually, there are still a great many atrocities being committed against us to this day. From the forced sterilization of our women to the outright murder of supporters of AIM (American Indian Movement). We didn't even have the right to practice our culture again until 1978. Modern America is still at fault. :P
@MovieMad007 Im glad you are interested in this subject. To understand what what our race stands for you have to know who Native Americans truly are. My people will not leave the reservations and move into mainstream America because it is not easy for them to leave the lands in which they have buried their loved ones. When we bury a loved one that land becomes sacred to us. We are a different people for this reason. These lands are holy lands to the people. In a sense, it's their church.
USA: It's like people eating each other alive. It has to stop. They need the hope for a better future and deserve to be empowered to change the situations you described. We can't live in fear and let self-inflicted pain and oppression rule.
It's odd, is it not, to see one extreme and then another. Look at Hollywood and then look at Pine Ridge. Does it make sense that these two places are in the same country? I wish I understood why this Reservation is like this. Does the government not know? Can the government not step in? (Not that they would.) And other than giving money, what can people do to help? As a matter of fact, how is the school system up there?
@obliviousninja school system yeah fucked up we had to have a police esscort for football and 2 cops sat on the bus and 3 students tried to steal shit
@usa1freedom4all Okay, no.That isn't right. I live in southwest Arkansas where all the black people live. Like, all the ghetto black people and it's not that bad down here. Omg. I'm assuming you're in high school. So, tell me, what all kinds of sports do you have and are your teachers worth a shit?
@obliviousninja yeah im in high school we got all the sports football golf basketball baseball tennis gymnastics swim team we just got this year but yeah The Midwest in america is considerd the hardest workers im not lieing if you didn't know they take more people out of the south dakota area and deploy them to war then any other state well maybe other midwest states too but yeah TEACHERS ARE GOOD were known for our hard work
ALL: Uncle Floyd (LFBH) just said it best--"You can't defeat what you can not see." It seems a strange paradox is to be found in his words regarding Pine Ridge. I think it's important to recognize that we may not always be able to perceive who are our enemies and hence, we may be temporarily confused on how to defeat them. At the same time, those of us with a keen spirituality are not able to be defeated simply because our true strength lies within us--hidden from the view of people.
ALL: I've seen this video several times. Each time I see it though, I don't see the same despair and desperation. I do see struggle and pain, but also hope and promise. Strangely, as I keep viewing this video, makes me yearn for it like it's home...It's like I need to be there. I see myself on that beautiful stretch of land...in the chilling, clean snow...out with the dogs..glowing sunset...a wood stove in my trailer. What some see as ugly is more beauty to me now. I hope to inspire others.
every tribal throughout the world has its strength in spirit and weakness in the material aspect of materialization first.....tribal money benefits those that are in house, holding houses for fund$ are often in the hands of the holding houses that benefit themselves & their own....time to look toward brighter solutions, where elders are considered, and youth willing to better themselves, and grown ass adults that are able to mouth off their strength in some ways, & use that energy to grow
@sencoten1 : Wow! Just read your comment. I so agree with it. The day when the traditional elders are brought out of the background and given their rightful esteem and respect will be the day that many of these problems will begin to become cleared up. Not pointing the finger and all, but many of our Native men/brothers just don't get it. Some are power-hungry and put their ambitions first over the needs of the people. It's time for this to stop....yes...yes, stop it now.
I am a documentary film maker working with Discovery making a documentary highlighting current injustices and giving people their voice in reservations, especially coming from the female point of view, please message me if you live on Res and would like to give your voice, opinions or help with this project
...The people have to stop waiting for what we are owed. We need to keep progressing and moving forward as a people. Help eachother, love eachother, but take care of your own too. we have to find balance in all aspects of life. it is only then that the people will be happy. They have to want it. This video shows a lot of realities of home, but there is also a lot more beauty than what is shown.
@Ozephier: I feel I am repeating myself, but we definitely need to avail ourselves of opportunities for self-sufficiency & self-preservation. Gotta start some clean energy/green energy plants for the severe winters, technical/vocational programs held at the local high school, mills, rock quaries, indoor farming, & even designated areas for people to pay to come & tour. Lots of people would actually pay to tour certain, built up areas. I say protect the sacred land, but use what can be used now.
@Ozephier: Just saw your post, but it was after I had written my own. Couldn't agree more with your point that there's more 'hidden' beauty at Pine Ridge & it may be perhaps being ignored. I just think it's time to throw off the pity mantle & begin to see what resources, wealth, are there. I DO believe the potentiality for self-sufficiency there is greater than the odds against the people. Yep...let's bring in green energy, mills, indoor-farming, vocational training, etc. It all can be done.
I grew up on pine ridge, the poorest place in america. Im 30 years old. i'm college educated. i'm a practicing man in the sacred ways of our grandfathers and grandmothers. The "medicine man" at the beginning talks about spiritual power. He is right. Most people don't know or can't know what he actually means tho. the native peoples of this land have and had the power to kill every race they wanted to without leaving their homeland. How is this possible? Its for most to never know the answer to.
STUPID FUCKING WHIT PEOPLE THIS IS BECUZ OF YOU.I HAVE LOVED NATIVE AMERICANS SINCE I WAS A LIL BOY AM 22 YRS OLD NOW.AM BLACK I LIVE IN THE SO CALLED HOOD WERE PEOPLE SELL DRUGS SHOOT GUNS ECT.AND THIS IS WORSE THAN WERE I LIVE. I RAP IF I GET I RECORD DAEL PINE RIDGE HERE I COME IM A JUST GO ROUND GIVING PEOPLE MONEY LIKE 50 THOUSAND $ FOR EVERYONE FUCK THE GOVRNMENT.
email me and i would like to come to your dinner and give away, and show you the good side of our people, i just now started my profile, so i dont have any video's but i would i really would, idk how to email on this? ill ask my friend lol and i think the reason that lakota beauty person commented on your stuff is because you have a lot of video's and a few of them i dont agree with also, but i wouldnt be so rude and blunt about it but for you to see how i c this place
I also dont agree with this, I graduated from Pine Ridge High, Class of 2007 baby!! lol and i think this so many video's about where we live only focus on the negative, What about the youth, that dont drink and do drugs, what about the people who still live the LAKOTA way, and respect everything, that go to inipi's, wiwanwacins, the youth who are trying to save our culture, our language, our ways, I understand were this other person is coming from, and i also have a dog a weiner dog, you can
@SoDakLaKotA Hello!! I am a 5th year landscape Architecture student at Philadelphia university and am interested in doing my senior thesis project on the reservation. Time to stop whining get over it and do something about it. Move, get an education, find a job, pay your bills, prove who you really are and then maybe you will EARN some respect. Why do you think you deserve a hand out? And yes I am part Sioux and no one helps me out but myself......

So there are two sides to the coin.
badlandsnative65 1 month ago
@badlandsnative65 I can say the same thing about corporations except we are talking billions not millions of mismanaged monies. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

@badlandsnative65 This summer we drove through Allen's road construction (on the rez) and filmed it. The workers were on their lunch break or something in was 10am. And those workers were not from the rez. At 90% unemployment you think they could hire some of the local residents to do road contruction. I don't know about you but I have my boys clean their own room, I don't have someone else do it for them.

Its a GODDAMN SHAME that this fuckin society has stolen native american resources and land, make obscene profits of of it, call native americans savages, herd em onto reservations(aka concentration camps) and reduce them to being poorest people in the nation. We built the mightiest and wealthiest nation in the world off of their land and their backs and they get next to muthafuckin nothing
louky264 1 month ago 5
Ok, first: I don't doubt the plight of the people there.
However it is another thing with the dogs. At least the dogs in the video don't look starved at all. They are in top shape especially when you consider that it is winter when many wolves and coyotes die (and eat their dead) as well. An if that one grey dog is feral his condition in the video marks him as a successfull survivor, not a poor victim.
inotaishu1 2 months ago
@inotaishu1 Thank you for your opinion. I am not an expert on dogs, wolves or coyotes so I am glad they are not starving. It was really sad. An update though, the packs of dogs or coyotes have disappeared.
pushthelimit 2 months ago
@pushthelimit Some people might tell you that the coat is deceiving but it is not that deceiving. Potruding hips and slim waists can be seen easily. I guess if both dogs and coyotes have dissapeared they probably got killed. And least that is a very common way to deal with them.
Any idea how long they lived there? I mean based on the video obviously long enough to form social groups.
inotaishu1 2 months ago
@inotaishu1 I have known them to be there for over fifty years. I couldn't imagine anyone from the rez killing them. A few comments said they wish they could rescue the dogs and kill the Indians. I will hope hey were rescued.
pushthelimit 2 months ago
@pushthelimit That is a long time. They could have been killed, at least some of them because I doubt that so many were "rescued". In addition I wouldn't be sure whether that rescue is actually better for them. I dog grown up to run free in his territory will probably not take good to be in a house and on leash all the time. In addition most dog owners (especially white americans) don't let their owners be dogs and this spay and neuter mania probably took many good genes from the pool.

Our people do not want to support theirselves or there familys.
weldNtow 3 months ago
It is clear to me none of you have ever been to pine ridge. It is in the condition it is in, because of the people that choose to live there. Choose is the key word. Many will tell you that they have have no choice. You can't just leave and be homeless. Yes, you can. I did. Wife, two kids. Now I have a job, and decent trailer house to live in. Off the rez. Something I have learned over the years, the white man did NOT steal our land. We fought, we lost, the gave us some back.
weldNtow 3 months ago
The native American went from 60 million when Columbus landed to about 800,000 at the trurn of the 20th century. That is the most out ragious genoside ever on the face of the earth. Don't make fun of these people. They're land was stolen and they're heritage destroyed by the white man. If you don't understand they're pain and suffering you are a Sociopath. They're blood carries the pain and anguish of the loss of the milions the white man killed. They deserve to live in dignity and with respect.

MagicalOillusions 4 months ago
@MagicalOillusions I have Eastern Cherokee roots. My people walked of the Rez years ago. There are no walls, locks, or prison bars.
432ps1 4 months ago
@432ps1 There are no physical locks, prison bars, and chains on them but they do have a certain type of lock on them that not everyone see...you say you have eastern cherokee roots well all native american people should look out for each other regardless of their own tribe. The cherokee are still going through hardships you need to be aware of that....just because they left the reservation doesn't mean the cherokee are not suffering.
MagicalOillusions 4 months ago
@MagicalOillusions Things won't improve by staying on the res. and that is a fact.
432ps1 4 months ago
@432ps1 things can improve if the native americans can come together to make the reservation live able. leaving the reservation means'cultural genocide.
MagicalOillusions 4 months ago
@432ps1 As a Bedonkohe Apache, my Grandfather would tell me what society has done to the Native Americans by trying to inlfuence us into your "Mainstream Society" is much worst than any white man, such as Andrew Jackson, has done to a Native American. Atleast we Natives know what is real and what is not and it sure as hell is not your designer shoes or flat screen tv's. If that doesnt explain why we dont submit to society then perhaps your brain might be missing.
MattyTheMole 4 months ago
@MattyTheMole As an Eastern Cherokee I can tell you, there is nothing noble about sitting on your ass on the Rez - broke, uneducated, drunk and living in despair while your children are raised in poverty and ignorance with no future. The sooner you break free of the shackles of the reservation and realize all the death, destruction and misery it's caused us, the better off you'll be. There's a great big world out there and it can all be yours when you take charge of your own destiny
432ps1 4 months ago
@432ps1 I have been to other rez around the US. When you get away from the mid-west most natives hold themselves to a higher standard. And they have self supportive communities. They have tribal leaders that are not corrupt, and they have education system that works. I applaud you and your people for taking charge of "your own destiny". You are not sitting on your ass's waiting for someone else to take charge of yours. I wish my people would have the dignity to do the same.
weldNtow 3 months ago
@432ps1;Maybe he/she doesn't want to leave the Rez.this is their home why should they cower down to the government? this whole world belongs to the Native Americans, they cultivated it by hand, therefore they deserve what is rightfully theirs. So what if only a few or even hundreds get drunk? It's not catchy. Why would the Indians want to live out side of the Rez? Can we get real here?.As long as they stick together/United we stand, devided we fall.
CommonSense498 2 months ago
@CommonSense498 The world belongs to the strong. The weak will inherit NOTHING. Nobody has a right to ANYTHING, they just borrow it for a while. Why would anyone want to live in a ghetto, a hood or a rez, living in poverty with no hope, no future??? Keep being a pawn. A puppet. Dependent on handouts. You disgust me.
432ps1 2 months ago
@MattyTheMole I'm sure your Grandfather was a great man, but these words he spoke are flat out WRONG. Why have you allowed the US Government and the BIA to take your dignity? Or have you just given it away...

@432ps1 Shut up...There are Natives in the south west who live off the land and they aren't in the mainstream society and don't need jobs, they have their traditional buildings, festivals, farming and hunting and they have the lowest crime rate in the world because they haven't been influenced by American society...There are also people who live in Tribes who operate some of the weathiest businsses in the world, while others have developed enough businesses to sustain themselves.

i hate the idea of how these people are so inspiring, they are so thankful of what they have, etc. they are like super humans, yet the europeans just come here, conquer, and act like nothing happened. the natives of this great land are the ones that suffer. its just bizarre how people are fine with it. also, there are many problems that have been adressed, such as slavery of africans, or the genocide of jews, and people look back at that and think its terrible. what about this?

If only everyone could give 1 dollar (or 1 euro) it could be possible to build decent homes to everyone and giving them health care. It is easier to be strong in mind with a full belly, a warm bed and someone to share it with you.
When you have no safe place to rest how can one feel like a human being and not fall back in the animals surviving way of life ?
We humans need other peoples to live. We must care for each others.

Kurdish people have same hatred to Turks just like Native Americans. Yes, we need the government. People are government. Government gives service that is why we pays tax. How much more can reservations keep the government out. What ever happened in the past will not happen now. That is why we vote. I just cared your reservations.
64Hulya 9 months ago
Native Americans I am going to tell the truth. Life has changed and you have to let go the grudge. Your ancestors want your race to go forward. Let the U.S government help you. Being stubborn will keep your race under poverty and uneducated. You cannot stop your children from growing what is right for them. Businesses should come to your reservations and teachers, hospitals. I love your people but you are wrong not letting the government in. I am from Turkey we are same race we moved forward.

@64Hulya

SKE1966 11 months ago
@SKE1966 I hope you can preserve both your family's traditions & still do what you should do in terms of aiding/helping Natives. These two ideas are NOT mutually exclusive. It's a matter of changing our hearts & minds. Agree with you, education is needed. We live in a different time than many of the elders, warriors, spiritual leaders of the past. We have to become educated & skilled--equipped to deal with Native problems of today. We need Native laywers, doctors, teachers, scientists, etc.

Thomas3901 1 year ago

Thomas3901 1 year ago

MovieMad007 1 year ago
Very distressing video. I am from the UK watching this. What I don't understand is why do the Native peoples on the Resv just bite their lips about their beliefs and just try and move with the times into main stream America? So they can at least benefit from the rights given to all Americans. Rather than trying to survive on the Reservation. Please don't insult this question, it is a genuine point of interest as i think its an important issue for the US! I realise pride is a big part of this.
MovieMad007 1 year ago
@MovieMad007 Some of us have left the reservation but it is very hard to leave. Family and culture is so important. So we have a choice, leave our relatives and way of life, stay on the reservation, try to bring them and our way of life with us or a combination of these choices. It is really hard to explain to outsiders. But in a nutshell we should be able to live our way of life and not have to assimilate into main stream America.
pushthelimit 1 year ago 12

Lochee1000 1 year ago
@pushthelimit You should. I agree. But because you are not able to live in the traditional way of those who came before you modern day indians must find a new way to support themselves or they will perish. It is sad but I hope you can find a way. There is alot of culture and natural knowledge of ways to survive on earth that will be lost if that happens.
papillonaquatique 11 months ago
@pushthelimit any body who joins with a mainstream america is accepting the white man ways
the natives need to do what they do best and live off the land and never let their culture die just because the white man doesnt have any culture he wants to put everyone to do the same .. no culture no brain . work and sleep work and sleep. the white man growns grass and waste our water and gas and their time. grass was created for the use of grazzing animals the buffalo and other animals.
tonyangelak 11 months ago
MOVIE: Native people are a spiritual people who have strong beliefs that are rooted in the care of the land...so much is this care & respect that they would rather take it slow & explore options than move too soon. It takes a lot to appreciate that concept. Even I have to review it from time to time. All Native spiritual leaders I've heard seem to prophecy the same things...."Those who would be spiritual and survive in this generation will be those who look for balance, harmony, oneness."
Lochee1000 1 year ago
MOVIE: (Part 2). The situations for many tribes on reservations are quite complex--on one hand you have the BIA & other entities who seek to control & keep down Native people. Next, you have to deal rightly with tribal councils, elders, & leaders who are brought together for difficult decisions. While I DON'T endorse wholesale commericialism on the rez, I do support self-sufficiency that is controlled/ designed by Natives. It takes time for these different ideas to be decided upon.
Lochee1000 1 year ago
@MovieMad007 I think the realquestion is "If someone took your home away, committed genocide against you, and denied everything they did to wipe you from this world; would you want anything to do with them and their society?"
Uwohilatlitigv 11 months ago
@Uwohilatlitigv Yes, I can see your point there. However, is there not the argument too that its no Modern America who committed the wrongs. It was the actions of the few many years ago. Such as for example the Aborigines of Australia, they were abused terribly and trampled on for a long time by the whites but that is not the fault of Modern Australia and pressure is being forced on the current Australian Govrt to appologise. But its difficult I think because it wasn't their fault
MovieMad007 11 months ago
Also (please don't feel insulted with my opinions I am very open to being criticised and I am glad for once to be involved with a decent debate on YouTube!!)
If we look for example at the attrocities of WW2 inflicted by Emp Hirohito's troops and airforce on the allies should we still be angry at modern Japan for the actions of their ancestors? I think if the Native Peoples (Sioux, Navajo and all the others) moved into mainstream America I think they would find that the ordinary Americans
MovieMad007 11 months ago
would have their own worries - will they have a job to go back to on Monday morning, did they have enough money to pay the gas bill, is Dad going to be back home to get the kids to childcare etc ...aren't these going to be the issues that most modern day Americans are going to be worried about rather than causing harm or heartache to Native People's coming off a reservation to live near them? That is only my opinion - as I say please feel free to shoot me down in flames!! Important topic though
MovieMad007 11 months ago
@MovieMad007 Actually, there are still a great many atrocities being committed against us to this day. From the forced sterilization of our women to the outright murder of supporters of AIM (American Indian Movement). We didn't even have the right to practice our culture again until 1978. Modern America is still at fault. :P
Uwohilatlitigv 11 months ago
@MovieMad007 Im glad you are interested in this subject. To understand what what our race stands for you have to know who Native Americans truly are. My people will not leave the reservations and move into mainstream America because it is not easy for them to leave the lands in which they have buried their loved ones. When we bury a loved one that land becomes sacred to us. We are a different people for this reason. These lands are holy lands to the people. In a sense, it's their church.

I hope to inspire others.

every tribal throughout the world has its strength in spirit and weakness in the material aspect of materialization first.....tribal money benefits those that are in house, holding houses for fund$ are often in the hands of the holding houses that benefit themselves & their own....time to look toward brighter solutions, where elders are considered, and youth willing to better themselves, and grown ass adults that are able to mouth off their strength in some ways, & use that energy to grow
sencoten1 1 year ago
@sencoten1 : Wow! Just read your comment. I so agree with it. The day when the traditional elders are brought out of the background and given their rightful esteem and respect will be the day that many of these problems will begin to become cleared up. Not pointing the finger and all, but many of our Native men/brothers just don't get it. Some are power-hungry and put their ambitions first over the needs of the people. It's time for this to stop....yes...yes, stop it now.

...The people have to stop waiting for what we are owed. We need to keep progressing and moving forward as a people. Help eachother, love eachother, but take care of your own too. we have to find balance in all aspects of life. it is only then that the people will be happy. They have to want it. This video shows a lot of realities of home, but there is also a lot more beauty than what is shown.
Ozephier 1 year ago 2
@Ozephier We are trying to show more beauty in our videos but our Art reflects how we feel.
pushthelimit 1 year ago
@Ozephier: I feel I am repeating myself, but we definitely need to avail ourselves of opportunities for self-sufficiency & self-preservation. Gotta start some clean energy/green energy plants for the severe winters, technical/vocational programs held at the local high school, mills, rock quaries, indoor farming, & even designated areas for people to pay to come & tour. Lots of people would actually pay to tour certain, built up areas. I say protect the sacred land, but use what can be used now.
Lochee1000 1 year ago
