I would think what he means is that many ancient texts are either entirely surpressed, only available to select orthodox "researchers" or otherwise tampered with and redacted. Who really has access to the Vatican library? As always: Those who control the past, control the future.
Oops - should have added the reference. I believe Nibley had reference to Alma 5:24-25 ("have a place to sit down in the kingdom of God") and possibly to Facsimile 3 from the Book of Abraham. So the idea that a chosen person such as Enoch could sit down on God's throne is also attested to in both the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, which I guess could be called "ascension" texts. @chyah3 This only depends upon which Enoch text you are paying attention to. It seems to me that the Backyard Professor here is discussing 2 Enoch, the Secrets of Enoch; especially since he is discussing Andrei Orlov, who specializes in old Slavic texts. The Book of Enoch is just as old, if not older, than the books of Chronicles in the OT. The only section of 1 Enoch not found was chs. 37-71, the Similitudes.

@BackyardProf re chyah3 .. I would think what he means is that many ancient texts are either entirely surpressed, only available to select orthodox "researchers" or otherwise tampered with and redacted. Who really has access to the Vatican library? As always: Those who control the past, control the future.

Thanks for highlighting this concept. I believe it is the same concept presented in the Book of Mormon about "having place" that Nibley discussed.

Oops - should have added the reference. I believe Nibley had reference to Alma 5:24-25 ("have a place to sit down in the kingdom of God") and possibly to Facsimile 3 from the Book of Abraham. So the idea that a chosen person such as Enoch could sit down on God's throne is also attested to in both the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, which I guess could be called "ascension" texts. I dunno, I usually read from my myriads of copies. We have the Old Slavonic, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, etc. I bet you could google it.
